It’s only been 10 days... It’s only a guess which ask game you sent this for...! ^^; (I am basing it on the fact I read the questions and mused about them for this whole time so I am probably right about the game.) @nossbean

9. What are your favorite fanfics?

Oh no. Oh no. I could and should write POSTS upon POSTS about this.

But I haven’t, because I don’t have the energy to. So you get a cheat version of some of my random favorites from my last pages of my AO3 history. And few special shout outs.

@angel-deux-writes Worth is a wholeass gem and I haven’t commented yet, but I binged it basically today (with exception of first chapter) and I can’t stop yelling about it internally, because the way she says things!! She always has some of my favorite Brienne characterization I get so envious over. There is strength and pride in it, and vulnerability and fear and the acknowledgment that her self-loathing is unfounded yet how hard it is to defend yourself, even knowing all that. I could write essays about it and Angel’s stories in general. Anything by her is a treasure trove, truly.

@samirant Rush Me All Night Long is a fascinating concept, so very well executed and absolutely captivating. Makes me go slack-jawed with awe with how seamless it is. And beyond the craftsmanship of the story form itself, the contents are absolutely epic, too. Intrigue, growth of relationship, dash of humor that is right up my alley, lot of good other characters with their wonderful insights... Nothing to add or take away. Just great. And you KNOW you should check rest of her writing out, too. You won’t regret it.

@ajoblotofjunk is back with another subtly, but powerfully in-depth world story with Baby I Will. How many professions has she gotten degree in already? Because the way she weaves art of playing in bars is so organic. And oh, the connection between Jaime and Brienne... Electrifying, a storm that starts as static sparks as they brush past each other. And I can’t wait to watch it grow. (Also shout out to her absolutely beyond epic gift to me, Petrichor. Which is mindblowingly great and written at haste I cannot comprehend. It couldn’t be more tailored to me and I tear up just thinking about it.)

LadyRhiyana’s Stray Sparks II is the perfect example why I tell someone at least once a week “I wish I could LadyRhiyana this”. Her absolutely amazing skill to capture a whole setting, a whole world of emotions in sometimes as few as 5 to 10 sentences (and not the 30 word sort!) is just... Mesmerizing. I admire it so much and am typically absolutely enamored by her stories. Crossover is also in my history and I am absolutely head-over-heels for it.

@kurikaesu-haru Thirsty is the most endearing, captivating way to combine the two meanings of the word and I adore it to pieces. It’s fun and emotional and hot, and everything it could possibly need to be and then some, in best way possible. And her works contain more and more of gold mines, truly.

@firesign23 is a treasure, to this fandom and to me in particular, for many reasons. But her skill to devastate me with short stories is truly something else.  Odd Socks (link to one of my favorite of the lot, but do give them all a read if you haven’t!) is what I have in my history, but I rec her as a writer 1000%. Her prompt fills are always poignant and not shy of ache and I can only marvel at them all. But also how could I miss out on mentioning her two breathtaking recent stories for fic exchange? Hold Steady is a Journey without ever leaving Winterfell, but the miles traveled by weary, worried, longing hearts in it... Oof. And, of course, I have to mention by hearts and hands made fast because it’s for me and it made me cry real tears more than once (!) and actually yell in real life, like no other story. Real and complicated as the characters deserve to be told, painful and comforting, absolutely breathtaking in the prose... I could rant for days, truly. And truly, wherever you look at her work, you’ll find more of it.

@aviss Skin Deep is just gem, gem, gem. Am I biased because she wrote for me, in a sense? Maybe. But she ACED it in ways I can barely comprehend. Everything I could wish for in the concept is there and more. Sweet pining, absolute besottery and realistic realizations and then hot, earnest resolutions... What a gem. As is rest of her works, really!

32. Past or present tense? 

I used to be such a past tense snob. Nothing else for me, no sir. But now I write almost exclusively in present tense. I can’t tell when the shift happened, I think when I was 20 or few years older than that, and I don’t know why, I think I read a good fic, like really good one, and also was trying to bypass my writer’s block by switching it up. And I found a certain freedom in it. A sense that it makes sense for me to go deeper, to be in present turmoil and wax poetics about it for few paragraphs. Because it’s currently happening, instead of retelling if something that has been. It freed me more in past tense, too, though.

It’s odd I don’t remember how and why the shift happened, almost makes me feel sad.

Nowadays I mostly write in past tense because I get too caught up in flashback sort of sequences and can’t make it grammatically correct anymore so I switch everything to past tense. Tomorrow (with you) is prime example.

49. Where do you draw inspiration from? 

Anything. The other day, I was bitterly laughing with a friend I could write a piece about stain on floor, create whole 1-3k word story about someone thinking about the stain, etc. Doesn’t matter if it has funny shape or not, known origin or not.

Most often, though, it’s prompts, it’s song lyrics, it’s some kind of thought/belief I have for character that I want to express/see them through some kind of event in way I think they would. Sometimes, it’s specific setting or watching something. Like, there was one (1) almost head-kiss in a kdrama with secret identities and I created a whole 10k word worth story idea off of it... Sometimes, it’s honestly even just a dumb, dumb post. But yes, music/feelings/prompts, I’d say are the main thing.

And as for inspiration drawn for writing itself... That’s a difficult question for me, right now. In kindest, non-rambly way I’d probably say what other people have lived and written.

Hey~ i’ve been scouring ao3 (and tumblr) for the last few days wondering if anyone knows the title of a fic. I was wondering if you know of it. All I remember is that jaime had a head injury from the tower falling on him. He then gets to be with B again and suffers another injury of he was hit in the head by one of B’s ex suitors while B’s father arrives unexpectedly in King’s Landing. Also, there are different kingdoms. J is the King of the West, Gendry of the East. Hope you can help. Thanks!!

I truly, horrendously barely had time to read any stories so far written for the amazing @jaime-brienne-fic-exchange​ but I’ve read a few and I’m going to love on them so hard right now!! Alphabetically, if my brain is still approximately working.

as stars once a year brush the earth  - Soulmate AU of canon. I can be picky about them, but this nails down everything that can be amazing and breathtaking about them. So very warm, full with such feeling with love and written gorgeously, truly blew me away. I’ll be thinking of some lines for a long time.

by hearts and hands made fast - Show Canon divergence from That moment in 04.08. Yes it hurts, but it hurts so good. And it’s already healing, too! Because it is not yet finished, but every chapter provides a twist that sends me literally YELLING out loud. Prose to die for, I could live among its lines for days and I would not have enough. (Yes, it’s gift for me, but I’d live and die for this fic irregardless.)

Hey babe, are you COVID-19? Because you've got my heart on LOCKDOWN!  - Modern AU that ought to be here for some of the funniest, most entertaining tags I’ve ever seen, alone. But never fear, the fic is absolutely amazing as well! Endearing both with pining and humorous parts, and it’s emotional core, this is truly everything I didn’t think pandemic fic could be.

Hold Steady  - Show Canon Divergence. Truly had me scared for a bit there, but the way it ended made every anxious lip chew worth it. Gorgeous, glorious even, filled with unspoken (and then spoken) love and fear, and tension, and such realistic depiction of fear and slow recovery and the way we want and don’t know what to do with all this wanting.

Just as Sweet (just as thorny) - Modern AU with a spy Jaime and a meeting out of time and place, but the sort that changes your life for the better. Loss and win of trust and love, sweet and brimming with the wanting that sweeps you along. It is just so palpable through the beautiful writing, tiny little nuances.

Matter of Honour - Most clever twist of Canon-verse, where Brienne is rich and trying to stubbornly marry honourably, while Jaime is a poor man with too excellent sword skills. Contains massive amounts of angry obliviousness, youthful angst, hotness and even Galladon.

Petrichor - Admittedly, I’ve not dove in this fully yet, because it just went up but I have already seen enough to love it and you should give it some love because it arrived so late, but so spectacular! Magic and mirrors, and pining and rain!!!

Run Mad As Often As You Choose - Regency AU. If you have ever enjoyed a trashy bodice ripper with dashing hero and maiden fair, consider this: all that but far better written and with two (2) dashing heroes. Crossdressing for disguised identity, secrets, pining and duels, all that and more in this amazing story, come get your fill!

Wine Down - Show Canon Divergence. Cersei’s cruel plans are thwarted by Jaime’s decisive action to step in and save Brienne, no matter what cost. Truly lovely exploration of their love and how it grows in face of adversity.

Ocean Eyes, Diamond Mind by @nire-the-mithridatist​ (Alternatively known as Manmaid AU)

Brienne is the last Tarth, owning only a small cottage on the island that used to belong to her ancestors. Alone, she walks the beach every day, cleaning up tourists' trash. Then one day, she finds a merman, banished from the seas. Despite his protests, she saves him—unknowingly dooming him to a life as a mortal human.

There are so many questions Brienne wants to ask, chief of them all how are merfolk even a real thing and we never found out, but she knows she has little time. The sky is growing brighter, and soon the beachfront shops will open and the peddlers will arrive, and then the tourists, and then who knows what will happen to this merman. So, Brienne’s brain does what it does best when it is overwhelmed: shift gears, act first, ask later.

She gets one arm under the merman—“What are you doing? ”—and hoists him up, one hand under his shoulders and another under his tail. “Stop this at once,” he demands, but she ignores him just like how she ignores the sting of sand and seawater on the abrasion caused by his sandpaper skin scraping her arm.

“Let go of me, wench, ” he says through gritted teeth as she begins to walk home.

That, of all things, made her snort. “Wench? Which century are you from? No one uses that word these days.”

What's something fun or silly you'd like your followers to know about you? Also, got any fic recommendations?

Hmm, fun and silly? I can’t think of anything that would be entertaining to know about me. But okay! I misread and mis-see things to epic proportions (such as, the other day I read Spooklyn instead of Brooklyn and believed it for solid 5 seconds) and often forget lyrics or make up my own that become ‘and I really can’t fucking sing’ to vague tune and rhythm of the song. Basically, what is reality if your perception doesn’t mess around with it and spice it up Some?

Also, I absolutely love cats. Big and small and you will always get on my good side with caracals or snow leopards bouncing around.

Also fic recs? I absolutely do, but it also depends what you’re looking for. One shots, multichapters? Series, maybe? Ongoing WIPs that are definitely worthy of reading?

But okay! I think turned into author rec more than anything, oops? No particular order to this! Under cut because it got hella long.

I’d definitely rec anything by @angel-deux-writes​ over here! Amazing writing all around, poignant expression that gets you right in the heart, humor and besotted Jaime at his demisexual best. Has made me stay up until 4am to binge read and cry, and laugh. Can’t pick a favorite, just go in there and pick your poison. Even if it’s not tropes you typically like, there’s high chance you’ll like it anyway.

@ddagent​ is the person to go to if you want amazing, creative one shots of every kind of nature. They encapsulate entire worlds and often have continuations! Hot, tooth-rooting sweet, soft… You name it, she has it. Is also writing a lovely Queen!Brienne ongoing fic.

The Tides is fascinatingly interesting and beautiful story by @slipsthrufingers​ Probably my favorite Tarth depiction ever, but rest of it is just as great. The way they learn each other is just…. Hnngh. She’s also writing Braime takes on Miss Congeniality and Lost right now that are just chef’s kiss, if it’s something to your interest.

It wouldn’t be fic rec from me without @nire-the-mithridatist​ If you’re in for a one-shot that’s canon compliant and will absolutely destroy your heart, there’s this one from her. Otherwise, I strongly suggest looking over her work in general, like the lovely embroidery one (a depiction of married Braime that is one of my favorite yet), but also A Beauty By Any Other Name and Ocean Eyes, Diamond Mind. They’re both WIPs, but can you really pass up reading of a fanboy Jaime falling for singer/songwriter Brienne through internet while he overeagerly draws fanart of her work? Or a manmaid Jaime? Emotional, beautifully told and creative in every sense.

While everything by @luthienebonyx​ is utter delight, I am incredibly fond of her After Everything series. I am always here for exploration of emotional depth and underlying currents and she’s doing that so wonderfully (with a right amount of hot, though I’m trying to keep this rec neutral and not veer into fics that spin more around that).

If you do want some of that, though, @agirlnamedkeith​ is absolutely the person to go to, especially with We Make The Rules, but there’s lot of tenderness and beauty and hot stuff to be found all over her work. Also Jaime/Brienne/Addam. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

Forpeaches/Bluecarrot also has some genuinely oh wow their mind AUs and concepts and I love the way they write, their dialogues are just something else and the way they tell story through them, versus internal ramblings that I can’t get rid of is just awe inspiring for me.

Samirant’s alright, outta sight is the ultimate ode to sort of enemies to friends to lovers trope, some of softest and hottest and most heart rendering stuff I’ve ever had the fortune to read.

LadyRhiyana is a delight, from fascinating AU one shots to entire series that revolve around Brienne squiring for Jaime or epic fic of Jaime & Tyrion timetravelling to present and getting adopted by Selwyn, essentially.

@ladyinredfics​ has a lot of gems but among my favorites are her epic sized Battle is the Great Redeemer ( Edge of Tomorrow AU that was absolutely wrecking to follow through while it was updating, but so rewarding) and also my personal favorite of direct transfer of book events into modern verse aka All the Redemption I Can Offer.

robotsdance writes in a way that always renders me into speechless, mushy pile of feelings and awe. I think I discovered her through the battlefield between us, which I’ve reread bunch of times, because it’s just so powerful in emotion and just take of events and the characters themselves, but you won’t go wrong with any of her other stories either, imo. Especially if you like Jaime gettin’ pegged.

Roccolinde’s works are such a FEAST, let me tell you. From a gorgeous take on selkie myth to canon-almost-compliant multichapter that is so frustratingly gorgeous in how they struggle to overcome the pain nested between them while loving each other so much, to a modern AU where Brienne babysits the Stark kids and befriends very demisexual Jaime.

Janie_tangerine has incredible amount of fics. And they’re mindboggingly good. But this time I’ll specifically rec one of first Braime fics that I read, ever, a soulmate AU. And it absolutely crushed me in best way possible and I still think of it often. Maybe one of ultimate tripping stones into this ship, by portraying the vulnerability and brokenness and the way they heal each other.

… Okay, listen, I could go on, obviously, but it’s 1am and I was supposed to be writing my own fic. So I’ll just round it up with assortment of few more fics.

The Lion, The Wench and The Wardrobe Trailer - a modern AU multichapter in full meaning of the name and still ongoing, but what a ride! Incredibly clever use of canon events in modern setting, emotional and sweet all at once, the shift from antagonism to mutual saviors to friends to essentially lovers but we’re too blind to see it to actual lovers. Interesting exploration of all characters, funny as hell, easter eggs for days. Slowburn

Measure in Love - I almost thought it was crackfic originally, but it’s amazing modern AU of a very unlikely and funny situation and two quite broken people drifting together. Slowburn for sure, but so rewarding, and every friendship in the story is absolute gold mine. Completed.

Souls to Hear - ongoing as of now, book verse. Absolutely keeping me on my toes and stressed how the hell are they going to get out of all of this, while also making me giddy with the emotional exploration of everything between them. Heading to slowburn territory but not yet long enough to really fall under into the category entirely.

My spoons have been missing for months now, so I didn’t end up reading a lotta fic this exchange, but I do gotta do shoutout for the lovely gift I received!

vellichor is sweet, immersive exploration of bloom of relationship and its growth into something long and lasting, located in a bookshop I’d truly love to explore, but also feel like I did because of how beautifully this was told. And their love, knowledge of each other is just so wonderfully portrayed. The best kind of established relationship fic, truly. Absolute gem!
