I just dropped $30+ to get a cheap-ass phone and a cheap-ass month of service so I can receive one (1) phone call and make one (1) phone call.

But in other news, I was able to barter some (okay a lot) of egg cartons for 3 bags of starter feed and 4 bales of shavings, delivered, so guess who finally gets to order some new chicks?!?!?! (in a couple days once the phone gets here). I am so excite! Guess I should use the time to actually finish the second coop, huh?

#the difficulty of living without a phone these days #i did have a cheap-ass phone without paid service for calling 911 until a few months ago #when it got stuck in an endless restart cycle and became useless #so this will be my new one for that #it took me 2 solid days to find it because they simply do not make cheap-ass phones easy to find #unless you want to open yourself up to scams #which no #but CHICKS #my girls are so old #one has stopped laying entirely though she still diligently sits in the nesting box every morning #another does maybe one per month in peak season #the three remaining maybe do 1-2/week during peak #so some new blood is needed before they stop entirely #i have to get the chicks shipped thanks to transportation issues which is less than ideal #because i’ll have to over order #but it worked to raise everyone to POL and sell the extras last time (covered the cost of both the chicks and the feed to raise them #which was nice #this was before the pandemic chicken/gardening/baking craze too #i’m eyeing some cream legbars (which i’ve had before) and do bluish eggs #plus two designer crosses that will give me white (for psyanky since i found my supplies) and dark brown #if i sell the extras as a grouping of three the egg variety might be just as attractive as the pullets #anyway #chickens
