5 Signs to indicate that Your BMW Cooling System is failing
Tumblr media
Every car produce heat during running due to various operations going on in the car. But too much of heat is dangerous for vehicles because the car components would not be able to bear such a large amount of heat and they get wear and tear. This is more likely to happen during summer season. So the car uses a cooling system to cool the vital parts. But many cars including BMW get some issues at the cooling system. So how important is the cooling system and what are various symptoms of a bad cooling system in BMW is what I’m gonna discuss here.
How cooling system is important?
As you all know how important an engine for a vehicle is. In motor vehicles, the engine is the one which converts the chemical energy from fuel to mechanical energy to make the wheels rotate. Without engine, you cannot make the vehicle run. So this important part of the engine also needs more maintenance and care. Any problems in the engine can create serious problems.
One of such problem is the overheating of engine. Overheating occurs when the engine gets a high amount of heat but cannot release heat outside. So more and more heat produced at the engine remains in it and starts to damage many vital engine parts. This generally occurs during the summer. So a system is used to cool the engine or to bring such a temperature to the engine where it can operate efficiently without getting damaged. The cooling system uses a fluid called coolant or antifreeze to make it circulate through the engine and absorb the heat from it. This heat is released outside. The cooling system even prevents making engine too cold, because if the engine becomes too cold, then the combustion process may not occur properly.
Cooling system helps the engine in performing better and it also gives the engine a longer life. Issues at the engine generally requires more money for diagnosis.
The cooling system consists of radiator, reservoir and overflow tanks, water pump, radiator fan, thermostat and some hoses and gaskets. Coolant is stored in the reservoir and the extra amount of coolant is stores at the overflow tanks. The water pump supplies the coolant to the engine by giving pressure to it. The coolant flows to the engine. The thermostat then regulates the amount of coolant to enter into the engine. The coolant gets into the engine by hoses. After completing flow through the engine, the heated coolant flows to the radiator where it gets cooled by the radiator fan. The gaskets seal the cooling system so that pressure would be maintained and coolant would not leak out. So when the cooling system gets some issues, then it’s due to damage of any of these components of the cooling system.
Signs of bad cooling system
A bad cooling system cannot perform its work. Most of the times it leads to issues in engine. You have to know about the symptoms or the signs of the bad cooling system you may get in BMW so that your car get it fixed in right time. Here are some common signs.
Engine overheating warning
If the cooling system is having some faults then it would fail to cool the engine, hence the engine would overheat. You can get to know about it by the help of engine temperature gauge or engine overheating warning light at dashboard. The gauge would point to the H or a red zone to show engine overheat.
Coolant leaks under car
Loss of coolant due to damage in gaskets, hoses or water pump can make the coolant to leak out during circulation. So you may find puddles of green colored fluid having a sweet smell under the car while parked.
Smoke from hood
You would find a white smoke coming out of the car. Sometimes people do mistake in considering the steam coming out of hood during monsoon as white smoke. The white smoke may produce a sweet smell. It is a sign that coolant is leaking internally.
Smoke from exhaust
Sometimes, the coolant escapes into the cylinders and burn with the fuel to produce a white smoke. This occurs due to damaged heat gasket. You may notice a white smoke from exhaust when the car engine is on.
Damaged parts
For other signs, you can inspect the cooling system. If you find that the gaskets, or hoses, water pump are damaged. Then you have to replace those parts or else the engine would overheat.
Conclusion
To prevent the engine from severe damage, checking and diagnosis of cooling system is very important. Do not take risks by driving your car for mare time while cooling system is failing. Get your BMW diagnosed at your dealer for best results.

5 Things to check if Your Mercedes Engine is Running Hot
Tumblr media
An engine needs a proper temperature to work normally without damaging the engine parts more. In this temperature, the engine performs well and also last for more time. But engine can get harmed more if it operates in a very high temperature. A very high temperature can give a very bad impact to the engine health and also the performance. There are some parts in engine which cannot resist heat more. Overheating is one of the major serious issue at the engine. To diagnose it, you need to check the parts to know the exact cause of the overheating.
Common signs of overheating engine in Mercedes
Temperature gauge pointer moving to the red zone or H mark
White smoke from the hood or the exhaust
Sweet or oily smell coming from car
  Check engine light glowing
Things to be inspected if the engine is overheating
You find the signs of engine overheating like temperature gauze or the engine overheating warning light glowing. Then to be safe your car to the road side or better to a safe place where you can inspect the car.
The AC is turned off and the heater is run to cool the engine.
Wail for half an hour and then check the following things-
1.  The hood
Lift the hood and check for any leakage, any stem or smell from the hood. If coolant or oil is leaking or burned, then you can know from the smoke or their smell. You can also check the pumps from under the hood. You can get sure about the causes of the engine overheating.
2.  Reservoir and the coolant levels
Check the reservoir if there is any cracks that may lead to leakage. Check the coolant level. A low level of coolant in the reservoir cannot prevent overheating the engine. Engine need proper amount of coolant to have a proper operating temperature. The reservoir stores coolant, it may develop cracks due to being exposed to repeated change in temperature. Replace the reservoir and top up coolant carefully.
3.  Coolant hose
The coolant hose is a component where the coolant passes from the radiator to the engine. Hoses are present on both radiator and the engine due to which the circulation of coolant safely is possible. But sometimes these hoses develop cracks and they leak out coolant. So you need to check the hoses and replace the hoses if found faulty.
4.  Water pump
The water pump makes the coolant supply to the engine. The pump provides enough pressure to the coolant due to which the coolant circulation becomes possible. If the water pump is faulty, then the coolant would not be supplied to the engine in enough pressure, leading to low amount of coolant in the engine. The engine overheats and shows symptoms. Check the water pump to know if it is faulty or not. A faulty water pump is to be replaced.
5.  Oil leaks
Oil is the lubricant for whole engine. Oil makes the engine components run smoothly and easily. By minimizing the friction, the engine works more efficiently with a very less power loss. More the friction, more will be the loss of power in form of heat and sound. So the oil also helps in preventing the engine overheating. Check the level of engine oil by the help of a dipstick. If there is low oil level, then check for any leakage of oil. Check the oil pan, the hoses and the gaskets in the oil system.
Conclusion
Overheating of engine is a serious problem, have it diagnosed as soon as possible. Do not take a risk of driving more while the engine is overheating. It can lead to hazards. Contact your dealer on what to do. Get a roadside assistance and tow the car. If there is a nearby garage, then you can drive your car to the garage for repairs.

Understanding the Dangers of Coolant Leak in BMW
Tumblr media
There are various essential fluids that carry out many vital functions like protecting the mechanical parts and maintaining their efficiency and increase their working life. But these fluids have a risk of getting leaked out of the vehicle that effects the vehicle badly. In this article you will get to know about leakage of such a fluid, known as coolant, and how it affects the vehicle performance badly.
Effects of coolant leakage
The coolant is a fluid used by the cooling system to maintain proper operating temperature of the engine. An engine has various process in it due to which it becomes more likely to get overheated. Overheating refers to the increase of engine temperature which can damage the engine components. Overheating can cause various harmful damage to the vital engine components. The coolant prevents the engine overheating by keeping the engine in a slight low temperature.
The coolant is supplied to the engine in proper amount so that engine would neither get overheated, nor have a very low temperature in which engine would not work with enough power. So a proper temperature is maintained at the engine which is very much suitable for engine operating and running. Coolant is supplied to the engine from the radiator through various hoses and seals. Such components actually prevent the leakage of coolant but they are also likely to get damaged and lead to leakage of coolant fluid.
The leaking of coolant fluid can lead to loss of coolant from the cooling system. A proper amount of coolant is needed for effective temperature maintenance. But if there is a low level of coolant then it would not affect the temperature in the engine but also its flow in the cooling system. A low amount of coolant cannot be circulated properly through the engine with enough pressure. The engine temperature would gradually rise while operating and overheat. This overheating can damage many electrical and mechanical components. Many components get worn due to a large amount of heat. Electrical cables may catch fire. The oil may get burned down and leave your engine with extremely less oil. With lack of oil, you engine would not be able to operate and die. Overheating of engine can damage other components nearby the engine and ultimately lead your whole car to die.
Common causes of coolant leakage in BMW
Damaged radiator
A radiator is a place where coolant is stored in its reservoir. It has many hoses and two plastic end tanks attached to it. These radiators repeatedly expand and contract due to change in temperature of the coolant. Due to this activity, the radiator develop cracks at the places where it is attached to other components. Then gradually these components get separated from the radiator and cause leakage from that area. A radiator also gets damaged after getting hit by road debris many times.
Worn water pump
The water pump pumps the coolant to the engine to cool it. But due to aging, the water pump having a plastic body get worn and develop cracks. It also gets clogged if not replaced in time. Very old water pumps can make the coolant to leak out from it.
Worn reservoir cap
The reservoirs are covered at the top and sealed to pressurize the system by a reservoir cap. The cap has a spring provided so that it would keep the cap tightened when it is closed. But with time, the spring get worn and loosen the cap due to which, air escapes into and out of the reservoir causing low pressure. A worn or incorrectly installed cap can cause the coolant to spill out.
Worn thermostat
Then thermostat regulates the amount of coolant flowing to the engine. The thermostat is present in a plastic hosing of the cooling system which is attached to the engine. The thermostat becomes more vulnerable to damage as the direct heat from the engine can warp the plastic housing. So leakage occurs from the thermostat and pressure in the cooling system drops.
Cracked hoses
The radiator hoses are made up of rubber and they wear due to exposure to heat and repeated flow of coolant. They lose their elasticity and flexibility and become hard and brittle. They develop cracks and tiny holes. Some hoses are located at the bottom of engine bay and get damaged due to debris from roads. When these hoses get cracked, the coolant flowing through them begins to leak out of the car or internally leak on the heated parts of engine and turns it to vapor.
Head gasket failure
The head gasket prevents the coolant from leaking into the engine and exhaust. But sometimes the head gasket fails and lead to internal leakage of coolant. The coolant escapes into the combustion chamber and begins to burn. This leads to production of white smoke and loss of engine power too.
Conclusion
You cannot prevent wearing of hoses, valves and gaskets in cooling system as they would never last forever. So you can just make your cooling system last for more time and prevent coolant leakage by regularly checking the cooling system and the engine. A regular maintenance is must.

Here's What Will Happen If You Drive Your BMW with Low Coolant in Hellertown
Tumblr media
During the combustion process, the engine of your BMW is generating a lot of heat. So, for removing excess heat from the engine every car has a well-functional heater which is removing the heat from the engine into the cabin for providing you a comfortable driving experience.
But, the heater is not the most effective way to remove the excess heat from the engine and cool it down. Due to these reasons, the engine is dependent on a fluid known as coolant which is running the engine at an optimal operating temperature and keeps it cool. Moreover, the coolant is a mixture of water and antifreeze which is used to prevent engine overheating.
What do you mean by coolant?
Thus, the coolant is an important fluid in your BMW that is used for managing the temperature of the engine and running them at an optimal level. In the cooling system, the coolant which is a mixture of an equal amount of water and antifreeze is circulating and going through the radiator to the engine system for maintaining its operating temperature and prevent overheating issues.
Moreover, the coolant is operated at the higher temperatures of the engine by removing the heat from the engine and driving away the hot air through the radiator. During the cold season, the coolant is also responsible for preventing the freezing point of the water and flowing it into the engine efficiently.
The main purpose of the coolant in the car
The main function of the coolant in your BMW is to absorb the excess heat produced from the engine rapidly and release them to the radiator quickly. In this way, the coolant is maintaining a constant temperature throughout the engine and prevents them from overheating problems.
On the other hand, the coolant also manages the internal temperature of the engine beneath the hood of the car. Thus, the specialty of the coolant in your car is, it is found in liquid form at both high boiling points and low freezing points. Due to these reasons, you have to keep the proper level of coolant in the engine for functioning efficiently.
What will happen due to low coolant in the car?
When the cooling system of the car has any problem, you will experience abnormalities in the functions of the engine. If the coolant level of the BMW is lowering down, the engine is suffering from severe damage and activates the check engine light on the dashboard. The following points define the problems arising in your BMW due to low coolant levels.
Overheat the engine
Thus, the main function of the coolant in your car is to pull away the heat from the engine. But when the coolant level is lowered in your car, driving it in this condition could overheat or seize the engine. Left untreated for long can cause permanent damage to the engine.
Blow the head gasket
Due to the low coolant level in the engine, sometimes the head gasket on the engine block begins to blow. Driving a car with a blown head gasket can cause many problems in the car including an overheated engine such as loss of engine power, reduce fuel mileage, smoke produced from the engine or exhaust tailpipe and produce an engine knocking sound.
Shut off the engine
Now modern cars have many features to protect the engine from significant damage. When the coolant level of the car is lowering down, the engine shuts off automatically to prevent it from being damaged. But, driving a car with a shut-off engine may cause serious damage while driving on the road.
Way to determine low coolant level in car
When the coolant level of your BMW is lowering down, you will experience the following signs while driving.
·   The main signs of low coolant level in the engine are the high-temperature gauge reading on the dashboard of the car.
·   Due to the low coolant level in the engine, the air conditioning system is blowing hot air from the AC vents.
·   If the coolant is leaking in your car, then the coolant level is lowering down and produces a sweet smell under the hood or in the air conditioner.
·   Due to the low level of coolant, the coolant sensor failed and activates the coolant light on the dashboard.
·    A low level of coolant in the engine can overheat it and make the bonnet become too hot. As a result, steam rises from the surface of the bonnet.
Conclusion
The coolant is an important part of the cooling system in your BMW that keeps it running smoothly on the road. Driving a car with low level or no coolant may damage the engine components. If you found that your BMW shows a low coolant level while driving on the roads of Hellertown, then bring it to a reputed nearest auto repair shop for determining the coolant level and top it up as well as fix the leakages as soon as possible.

Porsche Leaking Coolant in Roswell? This Remedy Will Help
Tumblr media
To keep the car in the best possible condition, you have to perform its scheduled service and maintenance. But, many people don’t have any idea about their Porsche and always take the help of a mechanic for determining the actual causes behind the problem.
Among the several problems arising in Porsche, the most common problem faced by the owner is coolant leakage. Thus, coolant leakage is the most serious problem in your car that need to be diagnosed and fixed as soon as possible for enjoying a safe and comfortable driving experience.
What do you mean by coolant?
In general, the coolant is the right mixture of an equal amount of water and antifreeze in Porsche which is used for lowering the heat of the engine by circulating in it. On the other hand, the coolant is also used for lubricating all the internal parts of the engine to run it smoothly.
The antifreeze of the coolant is preventing the liquid from freezing at low temperatures and raises the boiling point of the liquid so that they never evaporate easily. To prevent the engine from overheating and freezing, antifreeze is transformed into coolant by adding an equal amount of water.
Thus, the color of the coolant may vary from vehicle to vehicle and comes in the market with a wide variety of colors. Go through your owner’s manual to determine the right antifreeze for the model of your Porsche. Using the wrong amount of antifreeze and water mixture can harm the engine accidentally.
What are coolant leaks and the common causes behind them?
The coolant is the most used fluid in your Porsche which is highly essential to keep the engine cool. Moreover, it can flow through the entire part of the engine to balance the engine temperature and prevent it from overheating. Generally, a coolant leak is a severe problem in your car that can overheat the engine while driving on the road and stop it abruptly.
Due to numerous reasons, the coolant is leaking from your Porsche. Try to diagnose and fix the problem earlier to avoid major breakdowns in the car. The following points define a few of the causes behind your Porsche suffering from coolant leakage.
Damaged expansion tank
The main purpose of the expansion tank in your car is to hold the coolant for the engine. During the engine operations, the required coolant is withdrawn automatically from the tank and again stored the coolant when you refill it. Overuse, the expansion tank is damaged because it is made from plastic. As a result, the coolant is leaking from the broken part of the tank.
Blown head gasket
The main role of the head gasket in your car is to create a connection between the engine block and the cylinder head and seal them properly. If the head gasket is blown out, then it can run out of the car without coolant eventually. So, keep them in the best possible conditions.
Unsealed radiator hoses
In general, the radiator is maintaining the coolant inside the cooling system and its hoses are providing a proper seal. If the seals of the radiator hoses are breaking down, then it will start to leak coolant eventually. Due to these reasons, you have to pay close attention to the radiator hoses and keep them properly sealed.
Corroded within the radiator
Generally, the dust and debris are accumulated within the radiator by going through the grills. When it happens, the radiator gets damaged inside the car and rusted over time. Due to these reasons, the radiator and hoses are unable to hold the coolant inside the tank and causing coolant leakage.
Remedies to fix the coolant leakage
When the coolant of the Porsche is leaking, you have to diagnose the problem earlier for preventing major damage. The following remedies you have to follow for fixing the coolant leaking in your Porsche.
·  Use the stop-leak concentrates or a sealer to seal the cracks of the cooling system for preventing minor leaks.
·  When the coolant is leaking from the reservoir tank, then replace it immediately for preventing major leakages.
·   Over time, the water pump is deteriorated in your car and causes coolant leaks. So, replace it by consulting with a professional mechanic for preventing further damage.
·  For fixing the coolant leakage from the radiator cap, you have to install a new radiator cap in the car.
·  When the head gasket of the car is damaged, it can cause coolant leaks. So, fix the problem for preventing damage to other cooling system parts.
·  If you found any leakages in the hoses, then repair or replace them quickly to stop the leakage.
Conclusion
In general, the coolant is a highly essential part of the Porsche for keeping it running smoothly on the road. If you found that your Porsche is leaking coolant while driving on the streets of Roswell, then bring it to a reputed mechanic for diagnosing the causes behind the problem and fix it accordingly.

When, Why and How to Replace Your Maserati Coolant?
Tumblr media
Like engine oil, coolant is also such a substance that is vital for your engine. Your Maserati car needs a good quality coolant of proper amount. If the coolant level is low or too old, then you have to replace it. Here in this article you will know about why, when and how to replace the coolant.
Why do You Need Coolant Replacement in Your Car?
Coolant is a fluid I.e., can be either gas or a liquid that regulates the temperature of the engine. Coolant change is the most important part in cooling system maintenance but unfortunately cooling system maintenance is commonly neglected by most of the car owners. Coolant generally consists of water and ethylene glycol also known as antifreeze in fixed proportion. In a cooling system, coolant is stored in reservoir and pumped by the water pump to circulate it throughout the engine system.
Coolants is available of many types of different colors, some last long and some do not, it depends on your car which type of coolant it wants. A coolant generally prevents the engine from overheating and also prevents hard starting of car in colder weather. If there is low coolant or old, contaminated coolant for long time, then the engine components may get to break, wear off or damaged, even get rusted. A coolant become exhausted when it becomes older, so it fails to carry out its job and even cause damage to the engine components. A bad coolant can lead to failure of most of the engine vital components. So to prevent such failures in engine, coolant as to be replace regularly. A regular replacement of coolant makes the engine run perfectly for longer.
When to Change Your Coolant?
Coolant in your Maserati should be changed once for every two years or 30000 miles. Coolant can last for longer if the running time of coolant is decreased. Apart from mileage, there are some signs of bad coolant in your engine system. Here are some of these signs.
Debris, sediments or rust in your coolant.
Check engine light is on
Leaked coolant on the ground where the car is parked
Steam coming out of radiator or hood and rarely there can be a burning smell from hood.
A grinding noise from the engine.
Engine overheating
Heater may fail to work
How to Change the Coolant in Your Car?
Coolant is available of different types and different colors, but you have to use those coolants that are right for your car or the ones recommended by manufacturers. Refer your user manual to know about the type of coolants you can use and the amount of coolant to be used.
Before changing the coolant, you have to check the coolant level in its reservoir located in the rear trunk. There are high and low marks on the reservoir which is slightly transparent. So you can easily find whether the coolant level is low or high.
For coolant change you will need - hex socket, ratchet, coolant system vacuum filling device, compressed air supply, distilled water, coolant and a container.
1.   First you have to park your car and allow it to cool. After the car is fully cooled, the rear underside panel is taken off
2.   Find the coolant expansion tank having a black cap. Open the cap and set the steel chamber bleeder valve near the tank to vertical.
3.  Remove the coolant drain plug and the spring clamp on the hose on the inlet side of the water pump is opened and then hose is removed. Allow the coolant to get drained out. When the draining of coolant is completed, reinstall the hose on water pump and place the drain plug back with a new sealing ring.
4.  The inlet and outlet hose of radiator is removed to drain out the coolant from radiator. You just need to pull out the spring clips, then the hoses. Place a container to collect the coolant draining out of the radiator. Press in the hoses and the clips back to the radiator after the completion of draining. You will hear a snap sound in this process.
5.  To drain the heater side of cooling system, the hoses of inlet and outlet are removed after the removal of spring clips on both hoses. When the draining is completed, push the hoses and the spring clips back to its place.
6.  Fix an adapter with coolant system vacuum filling device and screw it to the expansion tank at the place of its cap. This is done to fill new coolant to the car.
7. Take another clean container to keep the coolant in it. Put a hose connected to the vacuum device on the container having coolant.
8.  Then a compressed air supply is connected to the vacuum device to pressurize the system. This is done to create vacuum in the system. After a sufficient vacuum is created, you can disconnect the compressed air supply.
9.  The system will draw the coolant. When sufficient amount of coolant is drawn into the system, the vacuum device is disconnected from the system.
10.  Check the coolant level and put the cap on the expansion tank.
Conclusion
Note that if you are unable to create vacuum in the system, then there must be a leakage, you have to fix the leakage. Changing of coolant takes hardly 2-3 hours and you will have to spend maximum amount.
