"What- what did you do that for?"

"Kurusu, you're such a-"

Kurusu grins ear to ear, even as he's beating down that growing, ugly feeling blooming in his chest.

Holding up a plastic bucket in one hand, he eyes his victory head to toe- Slater and Kurosawa, covered in saltwater as the remains of their sandcastle melt into the ground.

Minccheri, now at a relatively safe distance, hastily licks his tail.

"Kurusu," Slater whimpers. "That was mean.."

"You should have seen it coming," Kurusu answers simply, swinging the handle on his finger. "Shouldn't have put down your guard!"

"Guard?! We're at a beach, idiot!"

"So?! Anything can be out to get us!"

He points at Piper walking in the distance- and immediately getting pinched by a Krabby, tripping him and landing his face on the sand.

"See! While you two are busy-" He shakes his hands around, gesturing at the heap of sand by their feet. "-busy building your little silly sandcastle, I've been taking steps to make sure that everyone's all ready!"

"Ready for what?!"

"Danger to Team Cheren, of course! What else?"

"What the hell is your problem-"

"Kurosawa."

In an uncharacteristically serious voice, Slater stands on his feet, sliding his wet cardigan off of his body.

"..um, Sla-?"

"I'll handle this."

He drops the cardigan to the ground.

Normally, Kurosawa would let his temper get the best of him, and chase Kurusu around the beach until Lobanov called them off- or one of them tripped and got attacked by the local Pyukumuku community.

Instead, Slater, despite his shorter height, is almost looking down on Kurusu as he glares at him for his little prank.

And somehow, that made the much taller Kurusu feel smaller- like a Lillipup.

"Now, Kurusu," Slater balls the hem of his soaked shirt in his palms. "You know, if you wanted to sit down and build the sandcastle with us, you could have just asked."

He squeezes the water out.

That small gesture sent chills up Kurusu's spine.

"And now I have more to worry about, with saltwater soaking our clothes- this cardigan is made of Cinccino fur, by the way, if moisture stays in it for too long, fungi might start growing from it,"

The glare disappears- but the look of disappointment is still there.

"Now, if I served you mushrooms- from my cardigan to your plate, that wouldn't be a nice 'prank' now, wouldn't it?"

Maybe it was only Kurusu's increasing guilt and paranoia- but that rhetorical question sounded like a thinly-veiled threat.

"Um, I'm-"

"Kurusu."

"I'm sorry-"

Almost instantly, Slater beams.

"Oh, is that so? Well, just don't do it again, okay? If the saltwater got into our eyes, that would have been disastrous! I'll bring these to the villa for proper washing,"

He glances at Kurosawa.

"You can rebuild the sandcastle with Kurusu! I'll be right back,"

Gathering his wet cardigan and Kurosawa's light jacket in his arms, he walks away with a skip in his step, humming to himself.

Kurosawa glances at Kurusu, still somewhat petrified.

"..were you really sorry?"

"-actually, not really, but-"

He spots Lobanov by the grill, skewering mushrooms with Descante.

"..I don't want to risk it."

i think it'd be really funny if i made black roses like symbols for basically "volo was here" in milesverse like if you see a black rose near or on a person that means that blonde asshole fucked something up here
