(gonna use she for wallter and he for mark so that its less confusing) ok so basically i headcanon that grey stuff ultimately turns people into concrete statues if you drink it enough. i think that in canon wallter is in the middle stages of the process. it changes your body into concrete, youll quickly get so addicted its all you can think about, eventually youll lose your memories too as well as any ability to think or move. mark obviously knew what the fuck was up and wanted to prevent that from happening to his husband so he tried getting her to stop but wallter made it difficult and would get pissy about it and sometimes just mark just fucking threw all the grey stuff away only for wallter to buy more because shes obsessed. mark hated having to scold her bc he doesnt want to hurt her feelings however but he didnt fucking want something bad happening to wallter so he kept doing what he could until wallter eventually just divorced him and they split off. for the record, wallter didnt know what grey stuff does at first, but at some point i think she would. get some sort of premonition, and yet she still doesnt do anything about it bc by that point shes already in too deep. she understands whats going to happen to her and sometimes she feels sick about it and wants to go back but cant bring herself to. she views the end of her transformation not really as death but a greater kind of existence and shes ok with that

honestly wish people could understand that while wallter is not an abuser, he was not a perfect partner and is not a great person. he refuses to acknowledge that he has issues and refuses to get help for it and refuses to see how it affects the people around him. wallter cannot and should not try to get back with mark if he continues acting the way he does and until he admits that grey stuff is hurting him. you cant claim to love someone and then choose material things over a real person; it's just not going to be good for either of them.

i really find it upsetting how most people seemingly still see wallter and mark (even as botched as most interpretations are) as their own flawed characters, even though they're a canonically gay couple; yet i fail to see as much nuance or understanding when it comes to split and bive. from what ive seen, they're both completely reduced to being a standard gay couple, reduced down to just "lesbian banana" or "lesbian detective". it just feels gross to me because i dont see that happening nearly as often with wallmark.

the main reason why i like retrowall so much is that as a wallter ship, drretro is the only person who would realistically not give a flying fuck about his grey stuff addiction. in fact she would probably enable it. yeah yeah unhealthy toxic ship or whatever but is it really so wrong to love a ship where both parties can actually be themselves? at least it doesnt reduce wallter to just a nice polite guy and instead actually addresses his flaws as a person, since hes also enabling the heinous acts that drretro so casually commits. i LOVE that its toxic and unhealthy because it makes shit interesting and FUN. they dont go out of their way to actually insult or diminish each other. and that love they have for each other just inconveniences others. i just think itd be great if wallter immediately latched onto the person who actually feeds into his delusions and doesnt see him as a problem to fix and doesnt judge him when he acts reckless or rude towards people.

wallmark content on tiktok is great if i dont read into it too much but from a character analysis perspective its very abundantly clear that some people dont really try to understand wallter or even mark on a deeper level and make them unnecessarily rude to each other in angst without much reason. people tend to forget that wallter and mark always loved each other when it should be a pretty important factor. idk i dont go out of my way to look for wallmark content because i dont care for it so ive never seen anything ive felt is realistic

honestly, i really wish anti-radinclus people learned to look past their own ass sometimes. i think a lot about how those people probably just... have no idea what its like to feel completely alienated from your community because NO labels ever seem to fit you. after the whole mspec debate ive tried being unlabeled, i tried simply just "queer", but literally fucking none of that worked out. even genderfluid stopped feeling right to me and it was starting to feel like the labels i use are more for other people's convenience than mine. i'm fucking tired of these people with labels that perfectly fit them getting mad at those looking for what labels fit for them, telling them how to live their life, even going as far as calling them biphobic or transphobic or whatever the fuck simply because their identity is too weird to understand. can you people not stop and think to consider listening to others and trusting their experiences for once in your goddamn lives before jumping to conclusions? the fact that you people will immediately choose to put others down and shame them because you're not interested in seeing other perspectives just goes to show that you didn't completely shake off your bigoted fucking roots. you're hurting more people than you are helping. learn to be more compassionate and open in a community where most are estranged by their own kind. gatekeeping only sows more hate in your heart.
