despite having many family members, caterina is not particularly close with any of them as all the amell children were sent to separate boarding schools as soon as they were old enough (litcherally six years old) at the behest of their grandparents. 

cat attended a boarding school in paris from ages 6-13 and ages 13-18 were spent in milan. only two months of every year were spent at home with her parents and siblings. many letters were written

she developed a deep love of reading and learning at these schools, spending all her time in their libraries. 

when cat returned home for the summer one year, she learned from her father that her mother had disappeared months earlier. they hadn’t succeeded in finding her and they never would. cat has opted to believe that her mother was so distraught by never truly knowing any of her children, that she left so she wouldn’t have to bear the reality of it. 

during her last year of school, she decided to apply to universities/colleges in small-ish towns because her home wasn’t much of a home anyway and she wanted to make a new one somewhere she felt like she could connect with the community

HEADCANONS: gi hun is an eccentric man who has had troubles in the past with gambling and going into debt. however, as luck struck him - something he still feels questionable and disturbed about - he won the lottery and was able to pay off his debts and attempt to help his ailing mother. unfortunately, she passed - and with his only child, a daughter, moving to the united states with his ex-wife and her husband, gi hun felt he had nothing left for him in south korea and thus picked up and moved to america. witty, funny, and kinda dorky - gi hun somehow managed to find decimation and despite having a decent sum of cash, he’s still chosen to take a job in retail as a cashier for the local chocolate shop. (in which he’s had his fill of chocolates and thinks he can never eat more).

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: he’s happy to live his life in decimation, but the nightmares/waking dreams disturb him greatly. he feels a connection to sae byeok because he remembers her from his dreams but he’s too afraid to bring it up in case she finds him weird. occasionally, he sends money and gifts  to new york to support his daughter and for her to remember him.

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: yelena was russian born, but with no memory of her biological family or why she was unable to remain with them, her life with natasha and their adoptive parents is all she’s known, though they were always honest about the adoption. they travelled often and eventually settled down. she took up gymnastics from a young age and seemed to take well to most activities. admittedly, she’s always been one to not dwell on any hobby too long, though, with the exception of her penchant for getting into trouble. despite that, she’s stayed close with her sister, only drifting apart every so often but always coming back together. she now lives with her in decimation, working at the bar owned by dean winchester - whom she has a complicated though deep friendship with.

HEADCANONS:

CANON. John was 18 in 1914; of course he signed up, worked as a medic in the trenches, and served at the Somme, Verdun, and  Passchendaele. It’s mostly his medical skills that stop Evie, Rick and Ardeth from ending up on the radar of the British govt every time they nearly get disembowled by the undead.

DECIMATION. He never knew what he wanted to do with his life, except that seeking adventure, according to his father, was a foolproof plan for any man; the army, which approached him some time after sixth form, when he was floating about spending his inheritance, seemed like the best place to find it. He was wrong, of course; John is rarely right, something that most people don’t notice because he’s so charming about it.

Leaving was a huge leap. The trauma bonding is real and the sense of being useful (something that, though he’d never tell Evie, he’d never felt at home in London) is an almost unbreakable thread that ties every medic to the army - but he was sick to the stomach of it all. Adventure, as it turned out, looked very much like war, and where had adventure led his parents anyway? Into a burning plane, that was where. So he served his final deployment and moved to the States to be closer to Evie and start some sort of new life.

So far this new life seems to consist of brutally long shifts and depressing interactions with the American health insurance system, along with wasting time picking up men in bars - though that’s not a change from London - and irritating Evie by teaching Alex bad habits. He’s an alright brother (by some standards) and an interesting friend (by many others) as long as you don’t give him any money for dubious “investments” and keep one hand on your expensive watch.

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION:

Get enough sleep to keep functioning while working enough to fund a stupidly lavish lifestyle. Find a path in life that at least slightly relieves his nightmares - which somehow seem to involve the worst of two wars, one modern, one trench-based. But he doesn’t talk about those.

HEADCANONS: once, a young boy with dreams of being some kind of hero, then a spy. bucky can’t remember what happened between brooklyn and moscow or how exactly he became one of russia’s most skilled and deadly kgb agents. his memories only come in flashes – the faces of a family, parents, a little girl who must have been his sister. but they don’t mean much other than a hole in his chest; an ache for something he can’t even remember knowing. it was only in the last few years that he finally defected from the kgb. in the beginning he traveled around europe, creating a trail so convoluted that following it would take skill. it took a year for someone to get close enough to attempt to take his life; but he’d been trained well; he cut out the threat with a message. leave me alone. europe wasn’t all bad. it was in europe that he learned how to be bucky again. how to be a person again. he lost his arm on an assignment, and after years of experimental prosthetics and the physical agony they caused him, he now lives without one. 

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: bucky lives with his head down. he wants to disappear into a simple life as no one of significance – just a guy. a quiet one, maybe, a little strange, but nothing special. this life suits him – the quiet, the aloneness gives him room to heal. his nightmares wake him up screaming or vomiting; he can’t be sure what’s real or what isn’t, but in the end, he tries to tell himself it doesn’t matter. he just needs to start believing that.

However, when it comes to her life here in Decimation, she doesn’t remember any of those experiences and thinks all she’s has is a high school diploma!

HEADCANONS: Leia believes that she was born right here in Decimation. Her parents had well paying jobs so they never struggled with money. They always gave back to the community and made sure to volunteer whenever they could around the holidays. Once Leia came into the picture, she also took part in these traditions. Her father is a retired lawyer and her mother is a retired psychiatrist. They always dreamed of their daughter going to college and following in one of their footsteps. She didn’t have any interest in continuing her education and thought her time could be better placed elsewhere. They never approved of her interests so they began to fight about these decisions. Leia was standing her ground on not going to college. She began to save up money to move out the day she turned eighteen. It wasn’t easy and her first apartment wasn’t much to look at — but it was all hers! Eventually they fixed things about a year or two of Leia being on her own. It proved that she could handle taking care of herself and was serious about traveling down this path. They’ll never understand but they missed their daughter and wanted to have that close relationship back. This made her happy because she missed them too. It was important for Leia to take self-defense classes and learn how to protect herself. Something else that wouldn’t be approved of. She would rather learn how to fight than get into politics like her father always talked about. After both of her parents retired, they decided to travel the world since they’ve been putting money away before they got married Leia is always receiving postcards from new places, keeping them in a special box in her bedroom closet. The newly received ones get to remain on the fridge since such a little thing is able to make her smile. Leia owns a motorcycle with a white paint job and always wears black gloves while riding. She has never left town except for a few vacations here and there. It isn’t enough to see more of the world which is an interesting contrast to her canon life where she traveled to other plants often. She likes to try finding the best spot in Decimation to look up at the stars when the sky is clear enough. She owns several large fish tanks, some displayed in her living room and the rest in one of the spare rooms of the home she’s living in. She’s passionate about taking care of them and can probably count how many people she trusts to look after them on one hand. Leia was considered to be a tomboy growing up and that remains true after all these years. 

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: Leia is currently working at Night Moves Bar and Grill as a server and doesn’t have any plans to try leaving Decimation … not that she could, even if she tried! Watch out though, if you’re rude then she’ll definitely put you in your place. She’s not afraid to be outspoken. Leia plans on living her life as she thinks it has always been until something changes.

vex and vax lived with their mother in dedham, essex until they were ten years old, when their father learned of their existence and took them to live in london

living with their father was, in short, a Bad Time, as he had ridiculous expectations of the twins, so they ran away when they were sixteen

they returned to dedham to look for their mother, but they learned that their childhood home burned down with elaina inside 

the twins were unhoused for a few years, traveling around from town to town to do what they had to for survival (sometimes theft, sometimes odd jobs) 

they eventually ended up in the united states, finding their own apartment, and finally working, studying, and living in relative peace

and then, in a turn of events, the twins were attacked on their way home which ultimately led to the death of vax’ildan as he stepped in front of the knife that was meant for vex’ahlia

as a result, vex picked up and left, not wanting to stay somewhere filled with memories of her twin brother (nor having the money to do so) and she ended up in decimation

also, on another note, somewhere in these 28 years she got a brown newfie dog that she loves very much

WHAT THEY’RE PLANNING TO DO IN DECIMATION: after spending 28 years operating as half of a whole, she’s essentially arrived in decimation to learn how to exist by herself. she's working at gloria’s midnight diner as a server as a way to make money while she works on her degree.

HEADCANONS: growing up in a single parent household with his dad, drogo learned very early on to mature quickly. at a young age he had to work during high school to help pay bills and get the family by. he would walk his younger sister to and from school, babysitting when dad worked overnight shifts. he didn’t have much of a life until he went to college. he’d chosen to take the path of criminal justice due to the mysterious disappearance of his mother and feeling that the system failed her. but finally getting his own freedom in college was harder than he thought. his grades slipped and he lost all passion for the future he once thought was his. instead he went to find himself, dropping out of college and into the mountains. there he found enlightenment, peace, and forgiveness. he emerged an entirely new person, valuing life itself and not hatred. feeling a pull to help guide others to this mindset of his he set out to gain the experience he needed to be  phys ed coach for high schoolers. his waking dreams consist of a very barbaric/unfamiliar version of himself. he doesn’t like to think of it very much and when it does slip into mind he goes for runs to distract himself. he feels a deeper meaning behind them and is afraid of what it means for what’s been locked away inside him.

Namor moved around 13 years ago to Decimation after the passing of his family. He had been an ocean lover, a man who was caught every day at the beach but after the passing of his family it was a challenge for him to find hope again. The one thing that still brought him joy? The life that brimmed in the waters of his feet. It took him a long time to realize that many landlocked states don’t have the joy of the oceans, so Namor decided to move and make his own empire. DECIMATION.  Remus never thought he wanted to teach, until he was doing his MA and became a learning support officer for several of the undergrads. He even put it off for a while; his mother was an art teacher, and he had always seen it as sucking the life out of her, even more than his constant illnesses as a child had. But even after doing his PHD, the desire still lingered, so Remus moved to Decimation to join the ranks of the damned: high school teachers.

When he’s not trying to inspire uninspirable kids, Remus can be found wandering the woods in the middle of the night (his insomnia is chronic and incurable, especially around certain times of the month), frequenting local coffee shops because of his inhumane resistance to caffeine, or nose-deep in some dusty tome in the library. He always tells himself that he won’t teach forever - just until he finishes his book - but frankly even he’s starting to doubt his lie.
