defiantpotato replied to your post: kudos to my new “humidity resistant” mascara and...
Please tell me more about the miracle mascaras. I’ve never met one I couldn’t carelessly make big smeary raccoon eyes out of by midday.
It’s Clinique!
So when we moved to Florida, and especially going to Disney World in the warmer months, we discovered that just any-old foundation wasn’t cutting it. We’d get wet on water rides, it was humid, it was hot, we sweated... by a cpuple of hours in, foundation was eroding. So we asked our good friend who is a makeup consultant and works at a beauty supply store for recommendations. She came back with one thing: CliniqueFit Workout Foundation. It’s specifically designed to stand up to a workout routine at the gym in case you’re the kind of person who goes to the gym on your lunch break and needs to be back at the office afterward looking fresh as a daisy, I suppose.
Well. It worked. It’s expensive for my drugstore-makeup-buying-ass ($30-ish?), but it’s worth it. So when I went to order it this time (you can pretty much buy it at any department/makeup store (like Ulta), as long as they sell Clinique, but Macys.com always has a cash back offer on Ebates and usually has a “free gift bag” offer with their makeup, so I tend to order it online), the website was like, “Have you checked out the rest of CliniqueFit’s Workout Makeup line?” and I was like, no, no I have not, and I went to look at it. They’ve got a lot of interesting products like a redness-reducing post-workout powder (again, in case you have to go back to work afterward, I guess) but what caught my eye was the “humidity resistant mascara.”
I have really long eyelashes, and ever since I started wearing makeup, I’ve had the raccoon eye problem like 20 minutes after I put it on. Plus, in Florida, it tends to start running at a certain degree of humidity or sweat and it gets into my eyes and burns. I’d started just not wearing mascara at all when I put on makeup. Yesterday was my first test-run of the new Clinique mascara and I am pleased to report that it never so much as smudged, and it definitely didn’t run into my eyes. 10/10, will probably pay $20 for it again when I need a new tube.

Silk screen print of this Terry Pratchett quote from his novel “Small Gods”:
"Fear is a strange soil.  Mainly it grows obedience like corn, which grows in rows and makes weeding easy.  But sometimes it grows the potatoes of defiance, which flourish underground." - Terry Pratchett
I have continued work to find sustainable ways to support social justice through my art.  Sometimes that looks like making a certain piece or working with a specific organization.  Sometimes that looks like raising money.
Since Friday I have been donating one third of sales from this print to Syria Relief (https://www.syriarelief.org.uk/) as part of an #antifa Fridays campaign my dear friend Nathan Leigh has organized.  I’ve been donating digital prints for free and hope this donation of part sales will be a greater contribution in a more sustainable manner for myself as a working artist - I hope to continue this with whoever we are donating to next week with a new print.
For now, you can get this print for $20 on etsy!

I posted about this to Patrons already (the benefits of being a patron) but I'm happy to show off the small print reward for April!  This little Defiant Potato is small yet mighty.  To be sent out to patrons at $3 or higher - which means lots of potatoes running around!

Also, wow thank you patrons for bringing me past the first $50 point!  I'm so fortunate - can't wait to roll even further in the art making wheel.
