DMK Receives Major Donations from Future Gaming, Mega Infra, and India Cements in 2021 Poll Year
In a significant revelation, the Election Commission’s latest data highlights the hefty contributions received by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) through poll bonds during the years leading up to 2023. The ruling party in Tamil Nadu disclosed substantial donations amounting to a staggering Rs 656.5 crore from April 19, 2019, to November 14, 2023.
Tumblr media
During the 2019–2020 period, coinciding with the general elections, the DMK amassed contributions totaling Rs 45.50 crore, despite being out of power in the state. Major donors included India Cements with Rs 10 crore, Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) with Rs 1.50 crore, and Mega Infrastructure with Rs 20 crore, among others.
The subsequent financial years witnessed a significant surge in contributions, notably in 2020–2021, where the DMK received Rs 80 crore. Future Gaming and Hotel Services Pvt Ltd (FGH) emerged as a prominent donor, contributing Rs 60 crore, while Mega contributed Rs 20 crore.
However, it was the 2021–2022 financial year that saw a substantial spike, with contributions totaling Rs 302 crore. FGH remained a primary contributor, contributing Rs 249 crore, alongside other entities like Sun TV Network, India Cements, and Triveni.
The local body polls held in February 2022 maintained the momentum, with FGH and other significant donors continuing their support through poll bonds.
FGH’s close association with the DMK, notably through owner Santiago Martin and his son-in-law Aadhav Arjuna, has been a subject of interest. Arjuna, previously involved in DMK’s strategic operations, joined the VCK, a DMK ally, last month after failing to secure a DMK ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Other notable donors include Triveni, engaged in infrastructure projects, and LMW, a Tamil Nadu-based machine tools manufacturer.
In the most recent financial year of 2022–2023, the DMK continued to receive substantial contributions, with FGH contributing Rs 160 crore and Mega adding Rs 25 crore, among others.
These revelations shed light on the significant financial backing received by the DMK, raising questions about the influence of such donations on political dynamics in Tamil Nadu. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

HISTORY OF TAMIL NADU
Name :Sanjith Y
Dep:B A HISTORY(EM)
REG NO:2121E0246
The history of Tamil Nadu is rich and diverse, spanning thousands of years. While it's challenging to cover its entire history in just 1000 words, I can provide a concise overview of key periods and developments.
1. **Ancient History (300 BCE - 300 CE):**
Tamil Nadu's history can be traced back to the Sangam period, characterized by the flourishing of Tamil literature. The Sangam texts, composed between 300 BCE and 300 CE, provide insights into the early Tamil society, culture, and politics.
2. **Medieval Period (7th - 14th Century):**
The Chola dynasty, one of the most prominent in Tamil Nadu's history, ruled during this time. They expanded their empire across South India and Southeast Asia. The Cholas made significant contributions to art, literature, and temple architecture.
3. **Vijayanagara Empire (14th - 17th Century):**
The Vijayanagara Empire, although not Tamil, influenced the region. They promoted the growth of the Tamil language and culture. Temples and grand architectural projects were undertaken during this period.
4. **Nayak and Maratha Rule (17th - 18th Century):**
After the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, Tamil Nadu saw the rise of various Nayak dynasties and later, the Marathas. The Nayaks continued to promote Tamil culture and literature.
5. **British Colonial Rule (18th Century - 1947):**
The British East India Company established control over Tamil Nadu in the 18th century. The region played a crucial role in the Indian independence movement. Prominent leaders like C. Rajagopalachari and Periyar E.V. Ramasamy emerged during this period.
6. **Independence and Post-Independence Era (1947 - Present):**
India gained independence in 1947, and Tamil Nadu played a significant role in the formation of the Indian Republic. The state has been politically active, with the Dravidian movement advocating for regional autonomy and social reform.
7. **Cultural Heritage:**
Tamil Nadu has a rich cultural heritage, including classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam, traditional music, and a vibrant literary tradition. Temples like the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur and the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai are architectural marvels.
8. **Language and Literature:**
Tamil is one of the oldest surviving classical languages in the world. It has a vast body of literature, including the Sangam poetry, religious texts, and modern works by literary giants like Subramania Bharati and Kalki Krishnamurthy.
9. **Economy and Industrialization:**
Tamil Nadu has a diverse economy, with sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and services playing crucial roles. The state has become an industrial hub with a focus on automotive manufacturing and information technology.
10. **Political Landscape:**
The state has been known for its dynamic and competitive politics. Dravidian parties, the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) and AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), have dominated the political scene. Key leaders include M.G. Ramachandran, M. Karunanidhi, and J. Jayalalithaa.
11. **Social Reforms:**
Tamil Nadu has a history of social reform movements, addressing issues like caste discrimination and women's rights. Figures like Periyar E.V. Ramasamy played pivotal roles in these movements.
12. **Education and Science:**
Tamil Nadu is known for its educational institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Trichy. It has contributed significantly to fields such as science, technology, and healthcare.
13. **Cinema:**
The state is a hub for the Indian film industry, with the Tamil film industry, or "Kollywood," producing a vast number of films. Superstars like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have gained international recognition.
14. **Recent Developments:**
Tamil Nadu has witnessed various infrastructural developments, including metro rail projects, and has continued to focus on economic growth and social welfare.
In summary, Tamil Nadu's history is a tapestry of ancient civilizations, colonial influence, political movements, cultural richness, and economic progress. Its legacy continues to shape the social, political, and cultural landscape of modern India.

Navigating the Three-Way Tamil Nadu Election Battle: DMK's Lead, AIADMK's Challenge, and BJP's Ambitions
In the heart of Tamil Nadu's political arena, a high-stakes battle unfolds as the state gears up for the Lok Sabha elections on April 19. With 39 seats up for grabs, the landscape appears poised for another showdown between the major alliances, but this time, with a twist.
Tumblr media
Traditionally, Tamil Nadu's electoral history has witnessed a clear sweep by one of the two major alliances since 2004. However, exceptions like the split verdict of 2009 have added intrigue to the narrative. As the incumbent, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) finds itself in a familiar position of strength, reminiscent of its landslide victory in 2019. Yet, formidable challenges loom large, particularly from its longstanding rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in select constituencies.
The DMK's confidence stems from what many deem as Stalin's adept leadership in steering the alliance to success. However, the battleground is far from one-sided, with tough contests anticipated in West Tamil Nadu against the AIADMK and in Theni and Coimbatore against the BJP.
While the AIADMK seeks to fortify its stronghold in Western Tamil Nadu, the BJP eyes significant gains, especially in Theni and Coimbatore. Despite a lackluster performance in 2019, the BJP remains hopeful of enhancing its vote share, drawing inspiration from past electoral dynamics.
In this intricate web of alliances and strategies, the DMK's unity remains a cornerstone of its confidence. Led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, the coalition comprising the Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Left Front appears resilient, buoyed by successful accommodations of allies and strategic decisions aimed at alliance cohesion.
Yet, the road ahead is fraught with uncertainties, with close contests anticipated in key constituencies like Tiruppur and Dharmapuri. However, the DMK's unwavering resolve reflects not just a commitment to victory but also a testament to its leader's astute political acumen.
As Tamil Nadu assumes significance on the national stage, with the state poised to influence the Opposition INDIA alliance's fortunes, the electoral landscape brims with anticipation and possibility. For the BJP, the focus lies not only on expanding its footprint but also on increasing its vote share, underscoring the state's pivotal role in shaping the political trajectory.
In this multifaceted electoral saga, as parties vie for supremacy and alliances navigate through the intricacies of Tamil Nadu's political terrain, the stage is set for a riveting contest that promises to redefine the state's political landscape.

Political Chess Unfolds in Tamil Nadu as DMK-Congress, AIADMK, and BJP Engage in Lok Sabha Seat-Share Negotiations
In the lead-up to the April/May elections, Tamil Nadu witnesses a strategic game of political alliances as the state’s two prominent parties, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), initiate seat-sharing talks. The complex negotiations involve current and potential allies, setting the stage for a dynamic electoral landscape.
Tumblr media
Tamil Nadu, boasting 39 Lok Sabha seats, has been a battleground for these political giants. In the 2019 elections, the DMK and smaller Tamil parties, aligned with the Congress, clinched 38 seats, with the remaining seat secured by the AIADMK in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other regional outfits. As the election season approaches, both sides intensify discussions to forge new alliances.
DMK leader MK Stalin is scheduled to meet with the party’s seat-sharing committee, headed by Sriperumbudur MP TR Baalu. Simultaneously, the AIADMK reaches out to K Krishnasamy’s Puthiya Tamizhagam, a potential ally in the upcoming polls.
The BJP, which severed ties with the AIADMK in September last year, seeks to strengthen its position in the state. The party courts the Puthiya Tamizhagam, among others, after forming an alliance with the Tamil Maanila Congress led by GK Vasan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party is actively engaging with regional players, including S Ramadoss’ Pattali Makkal Katchi.
The DMK, a key member of the INDIA bloc led by the Congress, has not finalized an alliance for the upcoming election. The Congress, which contested nine seats in the previous election and won eight, is yet to formalize its collaboration with the DMK or other alliance members like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi.
The Secular Progressive Alliance, as part of the state-level grouping, includes the Communist Party of India (CPI) and CPIM, each allocated two seats by the DMK. The alliance also features the Indian Union Muslim League and the Kongu Desa Makkal Katchi, both securing one seat each in the previous election.
Amidst these negotiations, the AIADMK, having distanced itself from the BJP, explores potential alliances with regional players like the Puthiya Tamizhagam. The BJP’s attempts to reconnect with the AIADMK face resistance, and the AIADMK challenges the BJP by daring them to field Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the state.
As the political landscape in Tamil Nadu evolves, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections promise a compelling narrative of shifting alliances, strategic maneuvers, and intense electoral dynamics.

The recent demise of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader and veteran actor Vijayakanth has sent shockwaves across the political and entertainment landscape of Tamil Nadu. Vijayakanth, often referred to as the "Captain" by his fans, carved a niche for himself in the Tamil film industry with his versatile performances and larger-than-life roles.
A Cinematic Odyssey
Vijayakanth's foray into the world of cinema dates back to the late 1970s, where he made his debut in the film "Inikkum Ilamai." However, it was in the 1980s and 1990s that he truly emerged as a force to be reckoned with. His unique screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery, and ability to portray a wide range of characters endeared him to audiences across Tamil Nadu. The 1980s witnessed the rise of Vijayakanth as an action hero with films like "Sattam Oru Iruttarai," where he played the role of an avenging son seeking justice for his family. His on-screen charisma and strong performances in movies like "Chatriyan," "Ramanaa," and "Ulaga Nayagan" solidified his status as one of the leading actors of his time. Not confined to a single genre, Vijayakanth explored his acting prowess in romantic dramas, comedies, and socially relevant films. His role in "Manakanakku" showcased his ability to portray a socially conscious character, addressing issues that resonated with the common man.
A Political Transition
In the early 2000s, Vijayakanth transitioned from the silver screen to the political arena by founding the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). Ponmudy, leading to his losing his position in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, is a rare instance of a serving Minister being found guilty of corruption when his own party is in power. Tax Evasion Allegations Trigger Raids at 60 Locations Linked to DMK Leader EV Velu
In a significant development, the Income Tax department initiated raids on Friday at 60 locations connected to DMK leader and Tamil Nadu minister EV Velu. The searches are part of an investigation into alleged tax evasion involving educational institutions, sand quarries, and building construction activities.
Tumblr media
Nearly 200 Income Tax officials conducted simultaneous searches in Chennai, Thiruvannamalai, Karur, and Coimbatore. The properties targeted included residences, offices, and educational institutions associated with individuals linked to EV Velu.
This is not the first time that Income Tax officials have probed properties related to EV Velu. In 2021, during earlier searches, discrepancies were reportedly found in the operations of sand quarries.
EV Velu, a senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, currently serves as the Minister for Public Works in the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The raids have drawn condemnation from the DMK, with party spokesperson Saravanan describing them as a response by the BJP-led Centre to counter the growing influence of the INDIA bloc, a coalition of opposition parties.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, during a recent event, accused the BJP government at the Centre of intimidating opposition parties by allegedly misusing central agencies for conducting raids. He highlighted the use of the Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate against those expressing views against the BJP government. Stalin also referenced the recent incident involving phone tapping, where Apple Inc issued a security notification to opposition leaders, further fueling concerns over privacy and political motivations.
The ongoing raids mark a significant moment in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, raising questions about the use of central agencies and the need for transparency in political investigations. As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial to monitor developments and ensure fairness and accountability in the legal proceedings. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving story.
