youtube algorithm decided to bless me with music critics tearing disney a new one for their songs in wish and man. had not heard a peep abt that movie before now, so I feel like I wasn't prepared for looking up the villain and I want songs and getting... those

the latter especially is just awful. at least This is the Thanks I Get has a catchy hook, even if the lyrics make me cringe out of my skull. but This Wish is just. it has the worst rhythm I have ever heard in a professional song. it just goes, not flowing into itself, just kinda overlapping. and like, I get working with funky beats and changing time signatures - the occasional caesura is right up my alley as a baroque fan - but this song doesn't do that. there's just too many syllables in it, like they wrote the music first and then scrambled to fill in the words. and the words they chose also fucking suck, so they don't even have that going for them.

will say, something that is kinda funny with the post office horizon scandal is with the company that did the software, fujitsu.

was talking abt them over dinner last night, bc my dad has run into them before years back, when they stole a bunch of code his team did, bugs and all. but anyway something abt their name was rubbing at my brain.

see, they're a japanese company, there called 富士通... etc etc etc. a long and painfully nondescript name that screams "I am ten thousand shell companies in a trenchcoat". but key here is those first characters that if you transliterate them by a modern standard would actually turn into fujitsuu/fujitsū.

see that last vowel sound is kinda important if you're continuing to treat it as a japanese word. bc sure, fujitsuu is recognisably the generic finance word salad.

fujitsu on the other hand, is 不実. which translates as, y'know the normal stuff. disloyalty, betrayal, falsehood, inconsistency...

so yeah I think they did a good job with that. please never update your romaji.

one of the upsides of living in the countryside is the wide variety of local restaurants

not as in there's a lot of them to choose from, just that the one you do have changes hands and genres every couple years so it stays fresh
