So time for a random thought i had the other day. funny enough this thought was the spawn of a meme i seen a few days earlier of girls during fall and boys during fall. Today is a quick post showing how my edc changes with the seasons. Its something ive been doing subconsciously for years now.

What i mean by this is big edc pistols in the winter and smaller pistols during the warmer months. if you do this as well leave a comment that way i know im not as weird as i think i am lol.

Lets start with summer and the warmer months, for a few years my go to concealed pistol choice for this has been a gen5 glock 19. I find that the glock 19 has the perfect grip length for me to concealed in t-shirts and shorts type of clothing. I often change my carry position between the appendix and the 3 o'clock depending on what I am doing. I have never been to picky about holsters. I know now days with the amount of different kydex holster companies out there everyone has their preffered clips and wings and whatever else they can market. personally I dont really care if my holster has one of the wing bar deals on it and as for the belt clips, the generic wide paddle style clip that used to come on every holster is just fine with me. Also dont forget it never hurts to throw a extra mag of your favorite carry ammo in your pocket too.

I recently picked up a Glock 43x and a Safariland schema holster and have been really digging this setup. This will for sure be next years summer carry. At the time of writing this i have carried the 43x for the last few weeks and it is literally a ed setup that you dont even realize you are wearing. Plus when i seen this Safariland holster had just released i thought it was super cool and had to get one.

Now on to my favorite Fall/ Winter ed pistol setup. The Glock 45 is my go to for this task. It doesnt have to be a G45 either, since the G45 is a full size 17 grip length this would work with all of the full size glocks and still have pretty much the same outcome. My current G45 seup consists of a Trijicon type 2 rmr with a 3.25 moa red dot, a Streamlight tIr7a and some Ameriglo suppresor height iron sights all from the awesome people over at Brownells. Also i cant forget to mention the DNC Ranger Wraps on the rmr and tIr7a. When i had the slide cut for the rmr a few years back i had the slide cerakoted noveske bazooka green as well which has become my absolute favorite cerakote color. Just like before the holsters dont really matter to me. The one that has been my go to is a od green hilliker holster company rig and it has been just fine for me. Same thing applies as before, throw a extra mag of your carry ammo in your pocket and call it good.

Adventures in EDC…Part 2. Holsters

One topic of hot debate and confusion among veteran EDCers and new folks to EDC is what type of holster to use. One thing that 100% will happen to someone new to carrying a firearm is that in no time at all, they will have literally a box full of different holsters. Carrying a firearm is a very, very personal decision and so is the decision to buy X kind of holster from company Z. I myself have went through quite the transition of holsters over my 15 years of carrying a firearm on a regular basis. So let’s first talk about the types of holsters a person has to choose from.

Holsters come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and designed to be carried on and around many different body parts…some more sensitive than others I might add. Everyone remembers the good old shoulder holsters from the cop movies and shows from the 1970’s and 1980’s. If this is your jam, hats off to you! If you’re wearing a suite and coat every day this might work very good. It is a rather classy method of carry, but one that I’ve never tried. Maybe some day I’ll don a shoulder holster. Another holster type, although not super popular is an ankle holster. Ideally this is a good location for a very small backup pistol like a revolver or .380 pistol. Belly band holsters have seem to come and go as holsters. I did have a couple of these that I did use for a bit, but they tend not to breath very well and the ones I used didn’t give the kind of support that I liked in a holster, so they’ve been collecting dust in a box somewhere for a long time.

Now let’s talk about the most popular types of holsters, which are outside the waist band, inside the waistband, small of the back and appendix rigs. For the longest time, I preferred a solid outside the waistband holster in either leather or a strong kydex material. The main issue I’ve found with outside the waistband is that printing, whereas the outline of the holster and firearm show up on my shirt, is very prevalent. Printing can sometime be noticed and draw unwanted attention to you while you’re going about your day. I still carry outside the waistband when I’m practicing drawing at the range or carrying my full sized 1911 or even open carrying. I attempted carrying small of the back many years ago, but could not get comfortable carrying in that method. Sitting down seemed to always be an issue. Last but not least is inside the waistband and/or appendix carry. Although it takes some getting used to as well as possible wardrobe changes to larger pant sizes, carrying inside the waistband or appendix is the method that I choose to carry. The main advantage being that I can carry most any sized pistol, but remain concealed, especially appendix. I often times carry my Glock 19X with a Streamlight TLR-1 HL and am perfectly comfortable doing so.

At the end of the day, how and where you choose to carry your EDC pistol is solely up to you. Be sure to check out the holster selection over at Brownells. And don’t be afraid to try different styles of holsters, but be sure to practice with each of them and especially when you make a major change in holster style and/or firearm choice.

My favorite iwb holsters so far.

All right, so for this week’s post, I wanted to go over some of my favorite holsters to use so far. These are all going to be concealed carry holsters, and the pros and cons of each.

So we will start out with my current EDC holster that I’ve been using for a couple of months now. That being the Hilliker company holster. A trend that you’re going to notice in my holster selections as I like very simple and basic set ups. For a while, I didn’t even like using holsters I had the “claws” on them that is supposed to push the gun closer to you. Like I said, I’ve had this holster for a few months now, and I haven’t had a single issue with it. The gun fits very well with the light on it the claw lever thing is a nice feature to have when carrying because it does keep the gun close to the body. I’ve always been a big fan of the single large belt clip again because it’s very simple. It’s one single part. Adjustable retention is great on these and it’s a small business that people should be supporting.

Next up is a company that I have really been liking the last six months or so. That being bravo, concealment, full disclosure originally I had never even heard of them and they reached out and wanted to send a holster out for me to check out and do some content creation with . When I got the holster from them, I was actually blown away at how precise of a fit it is to the pistol. The neat thing about the bravo holsters is that they aren’t really a Kydex. They’re more of a hard plastic which I think is one of the ways that they can get an extremely precise, fitting holster. The retention is extremely well on these. Once you click the pistol in the holster and the pistol essentially become one extremely solid unit without good retention is and how precise the holster fits the pistol these are actually really nice to use. They also come in at a great price And there’s plenty of accessories to go with them. The holster in the photo that has my Glock 19 and it is one that they just recently sent out which is a New holster that they will be released soon that is sort of a sidecar set up. I’ve been using it now for a few days and I really enjoy it. overall bravo concealment has been a great company to work with and I can honestly say I really enjoy their products.

Next up is going to be the Safari land, schema holster that I picked up a couple of months ago for my Glock 43X. The extreme weight loss of this holster is what I originally drew me into it. I ended up picking up one of these the day that they released them and when combined with my 43X it is a extremely lightweight concealed carry set up. You could almost confidently carry this in basketball shorts or sweatpants without overly tightening them or anything like that. Overall, it’s a very cool holster and has a little wing thing on it and a single clip like I Have always enjoyed. Brownell’s does carry a ton of Safari land holsters so I can only imagine that they will most likely get some of these soon.

Last, but not least I don’t think you can talk about holsters without talking about good old we the people holsters. We all have seen them and heard of them because of their strong marketing campaigns. They make a holster that comes in at a very good price and gets the job done. I’ve had this one for quite a long time and have never had any issues with it. It does lack a lot of the features that you can get with most holsters nowadays but again, like I said, I’ve had this one for quite a while. I actually had to cut my own slot in it for the rmr’s because when I got this, it didn’t have that cut in it. Overall, if you’re looking for something extremely budget friendly they will get the job done. These are definitely an option.

Overall, long story short any holster is better than no holster. In my opinion, one of the worst things you can do is carry a gun not in a holster. Last part is having a cool holster for your gun is great but you definitely need to train with that to make sure you’re affective with that system. I’ve had a couple of holsters that are mentioned here that overall were great holsters they just didn’t work for me When using them on the range. Find what works for you and rock that.
