saffi grew up lower middle class and was raised by a single mother. she realized she was trans (or at least that she wanted to present femininely) when she was very young. her mother was always incredibly supportive of her, but her mother’s boyfriends often weren’t.
one of her mother’s boyfriends physically attacked her when she was a child, and another sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager.
saffi used to attend therapy but she hasn’t been since starting college so she’s really dealing with all this just. on her own.
her defense mechanism is to just not care about anyone or anything except acting (or at least to act like she doesn’t care about anyone or anything). she thinks it protects her but lets be real, it isolates her.
she can be kind of a bitch to pretty much everyone, but if you were to be friends with her you would find she’s a really honest person, always someone to listen to you and give you good advice and offer to help/take action herself.
she used to be VERY angry and explosive and some of that still simmers under the surface with her (and will probably come out at some point)
she’s always wanted to be ‘beautiful’ but then the man who assaulted her used that beauty against her and then she felt that same powerlessness with orson, so she was fine to leave him dying in the woods
WANTED CONNECTIONS
soooo many things!! i’d love to see her have some enemies/conflict relationships (i think most of her relationships are probably this) but i’d also LOVE for her to develop friendships/romantic relationships with people!! her cold, aloof exterior is really hard to get through but i think it would be worth it in the end
i’d also love to explore more of her conflicting desires to be cold and aloof and her fire burning under the surface, which can come out in a lot of ways: anger, sexuality, partying, getting in trouble (she used to shoplift), etc!

alllllright, so nate was born with some hearing loss & just when the doctors thought he was going to live a life of rapid hearing loss, his adopted parents swooped in & turned all that shit around for him. in those early days especially, he was so obsessed with being all of what they could hope for and more, that he undoubtedly absorbed so much of their love & support in comparison to his brother.
but anywho, he had surgery for two cochlear implants before age 6, and it’s worked out for him, especially because he was (and still is) a quick study. kid’s got a knack for learning/adapting like nobody’s business. but hey, he’s a human - he’s bound to make mistakes and the expectations got so high that he got frustrated with himself and decided enough was ENOUGH. the golden shine he had was starting to wear off.
so, then’s there the Age of Ethan Crabgrass  - which yes, is someone from nate’s past that caused a lot of trouble for him - but honestly, the name is more of a representation for all the discrimination and bullshit nate had to fight against. and fight, he did. in a small literal way, but mostly in a social way. humor is his best and sharpest weapon, and he’s had lots of practice wielding it.
found theatre in one of those moments ya see on the movies where the character is walking by the auditorium and the magic of the stage just pulls them in (like glee omg). it’s also where he started drinking alcohol, smoking mary & juan, and exploring his gender/how he wants to present himself to the world. the love he felt there led him straight to alderidge.
so yes, he kinda blackmailed orson after he found out - through his connects in the art department - about the extent of orson’s drug habits & took this spicy info. straight to the source. i imagine their conversation left nate feeling like he was going to Soar in this dept. troil & cress gave him a little more to work with, but he was still hungry to do something different. but then orson dies, and nate has...lots of feelings.
speaking of which, he has a therapist he’s seen since first year, dr. june, but for the last month or two, he hasn’t spoken to her. he’s too busy doing more drugs, having lots of sex, and being a Shit. to sit down and unpack that entire night and what it means is something he is putting off until...? he’s not sure, tbh. orson’s death has him Shook.
aldy (as he fondly calls alderidge) has been some of the best years of nate’s life. which is probably why he’s trying his hardest to soak up every single moment while he still can. he knows he and the rest of his classmates might not be bffs after this is all said and done, but he wants to create some lasting memories (read: be more Annoying than usual this semester).

josephine was born into a family with so much wealth, they barely knew what to do with it. except they did: funnel it into every crevice of their lives to build the image of a picture perfect life. woohoo! essentially, that’s all josie’s parents care about - pride and image, that image being one of perfection, and their love for josie was always second to their wish for her to be the best daughter she could be.
for the first fifteen years of her life, josie didn’t really care. she was happy to be a puppet to her parents, daddy’s little girl, as long as she was showered in gifts. but when they announced they were up and moving to new york when josie was sixteen, something in her snapped. it wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate the grandiose of a city like nyc, but she was furious that she was being moved away from where her image of perfection had been built. she snapped with an outburst, screaming at her parents for the first time ever and realising that was something she could, indeed, do. in moving to new york, josie left behind her role as the puppet and slipped effortlessly into the spoiled brat who did whatever it was she pleased. this is who she still is to this day.
josie loves acting because she adores the attention. she is addicted to the spotlight and the applause, and she will stop at nothing to get it. she is incredibly talented, and she knows it, and when she set her sights for alderidge, there was not a chance she wasn’t going to get it. her parents pushed against her moving so far away and told her acting was hardly a viable path, but she turned her back on them and continued to do whatever it was she pleased.
you had better watch your back around josie, because 90% of the time if she is getting close to you, she is gonna stab you there. josie is a television-quality Queen Bee and she could have a million friends if she so wished, but frankly that knowledge alone is enough for her. she doesn’t need many friends - she needs to get to the top. and if she perceives you as even an ounce of a threat, she will cut you down (coughs, supporting role, coughs). she’s incredibly manipulative about it, though. she will weasel her way into your life, have you trust her and be friends with you for as long as it takes before she strikes. absolute definition of ‘look like the innocent flower but be the serpent underneath’.
josie has an addictive personality - she gets hooked to things very easily. she’s been drinking and smoking cigarettes since she was sixteen and started on drugs when she was eighteen, now especially leaning on coke, along with her best friend, the leading man (is she also addicted to him? maybe so. don’t make it sexual or i’ll scream) and, of course, orson.
oooooh, orson. josie and orson. it would be no exaggeration to say josie was addicted to orson. she was addicted to the attention he gave her, the love he gave her, the praise he showered her in. he made her feel like she was on top of the world, where she rightfully deserved to be, and it was enough to make her simply obsessed with him. it wasn’t like a sexual thing, but it definitely could’ve been tbh. their relationship was Super intense. borderline weird. now that he’s dead, josie is being forced to confront whether she actually loved orson as the man he was, or the pedestal he put her on, and she’s not enjoying it. feelings are overrated!
WANTED PLOTS
hello 911? the leading lady and the leading man were no where to be seen when orson died, and there’s evidence to suggest they were high on coke in his secret room. why don’t you put the dots together. yes i absolutely want someone to accuse josie and mathias of murder. and what about it? who’s gonna vouch for them? their own high asses? no. hahaha.
by extension of the latter, i would love to see someone try and expose the leading dumbasses for their drug use. so what if it’s ‘common’ in show biz, it’s dodgy as hell. i would especially love to see someone blackmail josie with this - especially because she would go to great lengths to protect the leading man, and she won’t let him go down for this.
exes! haha! i’m especially a slut for the idea that josie hooked up with someone regularly in first year but orson found out and deemed the person she was hooking up with as ‘not worthy’ of her and essentially told her she should break up with them. so she did. and she has pretended to hate them ever since. but there’s a part of josie that misses that escape... maybe she was addicted to them like she’s been addicted to so many others, and it was difficult to severe them but she would do anything for orson, and now that orson’s dead.... side eye emoji.
would love to have more stories of josie stabbing people in the back to get what she wants in the style of what she did to the supporting role xx
josie is definitely going to be doing some Growing over the course of the rp as she comes to the realisation that she was essentially manipulated by orson to be even more of a cutthroat bitch than she already was so... if you want to see josie slowly chip away at her bitch exterior and become friends with you, hmu.

background / headcanons (a mixture of the things that make helen helen & an insight into this fool):
whilst helen has her fair share of parental trauma, she literally refuses to acknowledge it exists. her mom abandoned her when she thirteen - but she hasn’t even admitted that happened, to herself or anyone else! literally, helen probably pretends to receive letters and postcards from her mom and makes up holiday stories - when the reality is she hasn’t seen her mom in ten years!!!!
helen doesn’t know who her father is. all she knows is that he and her mom had a one night stand and that he was incredibly attractive, to the point where her mom was chasing down every man in georgia trying to find him!
she’s a georgia peach baby!!! helen is very connected to her southern roots (via her grandparents, who took her in when her mom abandoned her) and still has a fairly strong accent, although it’s something she drops on stage.
this obsession with romanticising everything stretches way beyond family. she is very much sunny side up about everything, always thinks that things will work out for the best and that people tend to have the best intentions.
one of the most sentimental people you will ever meet - absolutely has a scrapbook for every play they’ve ever done, packed with costume scraps, polaroid’s and script snippets.
helen imagined herself as an ingenue-type figure long before orson clocked her. she deliberately tries to be as light & romantic as possible - doing ridiculous stuff like wearing nightgowns out in the day time, making friendship bracelets and doodling hearts.
has a fantasy of being in a jane austen novel. she’s probably like, jane bennett.
acting is the way she copes with all this trauma she won’t admit. because every character’s pain can just be shrugged off the moment you step into the wings, because you can choose what to feel and how long.
with her roles, she’s not...going into much depth though lmao. in fact helen is a very middling actress? like she isn’t bad but she’s never really had the chance to be good? never needed to either.
wanted connections: (these are supposed to be kinda short n vague so we can just...jump off them you feel?!)
acting related connections!! give me the person who is her assigned scene partner (whether or not they like that is totally up for discussion). give me two people who played enemies/rivals on stage or in class and somehow ended up taking their feud off stage. give me characters who did a romantic scene together and then just...ended up hooking up after class and haven’t spoken about it since!! give me the person she chills with in between scenes!! give me a mentor - someone who thinks helen has more to give and is insistent on dragging it out of her! give me everything!
i would love for there to be one character who just thinks helen is full of shit. who maybe thinks that this whole...ethereal angel thing is a big ol’ facade and tries their best to antagonise her and shake her from it?
i’m a SUCKER for exes!!! give me the person she got together with in like, the first month of alderidge only for them both to realise that this was done in a panicked hurry and not what either of them wanted. give me the blind date set up by a mutual friend and the date went so badly and now they can’t talk. give me CRUSHES (especially unrequited ones!). give me the person who liked helen but then she went way too fast for them and so they backed out.
alibi ! (well, kinda): basically, someone she spent most of the cast party around (and then they walked back to the castle together?) and who have agreed that if shit hits the fan, they will bat for the other and answer any and all questions the police may have.

background
hudson’s the youngest child in a big military fam. his dad is a marine, and all five of his older siblings have enlisted in some branch of the military. 
growing up, his dad was always trying to toughen them up. he had zero patience for them being upset or anything like that, so hudson had to learn to bottle up all of his emotions. if he cried, his father sent him to his room until he could ‘control himself.’ he’s a real piece of shit. 
they moved constantly. hudson would attend one school for MAYBE two years, usually less. he never really made friends, because he’s a baby introvert and that was not enough time to bond with people. plus, he’d just have to leave eventually. also he was bullied pretty badly in seventh and eighth grade, which did a number on his confidence. 100% he still thinks he’s weird and a loser to this day because of it. 
high school was the first time he was in one place for a while. he made some friends, and ended up joining a very Quirky drama club. it was weird and the shows were TERRIBLE, but hudson developed a love for acting and he was actually happy for the first time ever. 
applied to alderidge because his best friend forced him to and he got in !!! which is good because his father kicked him out because he wouldn’t be a Good Little Boy and join the military ( again, he is SUCH a piece of shit )
as a result, hudson is here on partial scholarship / work study. he works in the library at random times during the day to accommodate his class / rehearsal schedule. 
at alderidge, he basically devoted himself to proving that he deserved to be there. he worked so hard - he was always early to rehearsals, and he spent hours pouring over the script, learning usually three parts per show just in case the leads couldn’t go on. 
orson didn’t hate him, but hudson definitely wasn’t his favorite ( obviously ). he could tell hudson worked hard and genuinely wanted to be better. he wasn’t in it for glory or fame; he wanted to be the best actor he could be. so, orson would occasionally give him bits of advice.
hudson never disliked orson. a small part of him did resent orson, but he also hated himself for just not being good enough. hudson always thought if he could just push himself harder, orson would think he was worthy of a lead. 
he fully blames himself for orson’s death. if he had just been able to break up the fight between orson and teddy, orson would still be alive. more than that, he feels so guilty for covering things up, but he absolutely will not let teddy go to jail for this. he won’t. 
personality 
outside of the whole murder thing ? he is SUCH a genuine guy. i think most people in the theatre department would know that he’s a very honest, humble sort of person who just wants to be good enough. 
hudson’s a very sweet person. like, he isn’t prone to getting revenge or manipulating people to get what he wants. which is why i am SO excited to see him get put in situations where he has to in order to not go to jail !!!
more introverted than extroverted, but i would say he still socializes with everyone considering they’ve all been in the same program for four years. he just occasionally needs quiet time alone.
books have always been his safe haven. his dorm is littered with random books, and he usually cares one around along with his script. 
orson told him that the reason he didn’t get leads was his lack of passion. basically, he’s a very good actor, but others can portray genuine emotion and be more vulnerable than he is on stage. he has a hard time fully letting go due to his father constantly trying to make him repress his emotions.
he technically has undiagnosed anxiety ( after having a panic attack in middle school, his dad refused to take him to a therapist and instead was basically like ‘i am disappointed in you’ ). hudson occasionally has panic attacks, when he pushes himself too far / gets too stressed. but it’s never happened in front of anyone else because he’s very self-conscious about it and it would upset him more for someone else to see him like that. 
hudson ! is ! not ! coping ! well ! after the murder / cover up. like, he regrets it in some ways and he’s just feeling really guilty and scared over all. he doesn’t want to get caught, but he feels sick about everything. like, if he could go back and change things, he would in a heartbeat. 
wanted connections
okay so besides the canonical ones, i would LOVE to see:
someone he tends to gravitate towards when it comes to working on scenes, or running lines. someone who he just works well with as actors.
someone who he finds annoying. he’s probably too polite to tell them, but i think some people may be a little much for him.
someone he had a fling with first year and they have NEVER discussed it and it will remain that way.
someone who he likes to goof off with. he’s so serious at times, i would love for someone to bring out a goofy side in him.
someone who’s noticed he’s not his usual self ? maybe they can tell he seems a little more distant, and a lot more stressed than usual. 
his sparing partner for combat class. like, the person he usually partners with because they end up sword fighting a lot in shows or something ? 
a bunch of other stuff !! this is just suggestions, i am so open to any and all plots.

Grew up with just her mom and brother in a super religious household
Discovered her love of acting when she went against her mother’s orders and joined the church production of the birth of Jesus Christ (is that what that’s called? google wasn’t helpful) where she got to play Mary
Her mother was very controlling and terrified Mads, she did everything she could to have Mads grow up in one specific way but if it weren’t for her brother, Mads would probably be stuck in a shitty marriage and knocked up. Gross.
In high school she joined the theater club in secret, learning how to lie and be more of a disappointment to her mother generally. Her brother and her got closer once again around this time too so it was getting easier for her to get out of this toxic mindset
I won’t go into too much detail what kind of abuse her mother put Mads through, but she basically was punished for any little thing that it made Mads feel so devoid of herself that she now does not speak to her or mention her
She’s always been smart, she got into Alderidge on a full ride scholarship and auditioned with the Lady Macbeth monologue of that damned spot. Props and all. She used fake blood and made it look like she was clawing at her skin. She was very into the drama of it all
She thought she’d be happy as one of Orson’s favorites, but whenever she tried to unleash more parts of her personality (the quick wit, her smart ass sense of humor, the charming smiles and how she wanted everyone to feel included), she started to question what else was there.
So she joins the community theater, she branches out, she stars in short films. Orson thinks she’s not dedicated enough and the leading lady takes the role of Rosalind right from under her. They now Do Not Speak. No she will not elaborate.
Mads gets petty and tells Orson he has a fragile ego. She starts coming to practice late, she’s giving half hearted performances as the roles she was given.
Along the way, she picks up drug dealing to make extra money. Orson finds out and tries to get her expelled the night he died but well :)
Is she relieved? Yes. Does she feel bad? Not as much as she should.

mother’s a broadway star, father’s a theatre actor

thus, mathias grew up in a family of show biz - all he’s ever known! lived all of his life backstage or on the stage (child actor) or at after-parties

you can read my full app here, if you want to... but since it’s a long son of a bitch, below is a tl;dr bullet-point version to sum up my girl!!
her parents were textbook star-crossed lovers, coming from completely different backgrounds and families that didn’t approve of their choices. but they were so unbelievably in love, they said “fuck the stars” and claimed their own happy ending.
what comes after the happy ending? the drunk driver that ended her mother’s life at eight months pregnant. there was enough time for surgeons to rescue harry with an emergency c-section, but they couldn’t save her mom.
harry’s dad -- colin -- moved the two of them to his hometown of san francisco, to raise her near his family. his wife’s death broke him in a really irreparable way, and although he did his best to be a good dad, he couldn’t communicate very well with harry. she reminded him way too much of her mother.
colin still made an effort in whatever ways he could; through literature, for example. he was a professor of comparative lit and poetry, so something he’d do often was give harry poems and plays and books he thought she’d like, as his own very specific kind of love language. she adored it, and eventually, perusing her dad’s library was what got her into shakespeare. it started out as a literary love, but eventually she started doing performances for her family and it kind of just clicked.
her love for acting developed more as she moved into adolescence, participating in school plays and realizing she was really, really good at it. performing felt like the perfect, safe vessel for channeling all the emotions she kept bottled the rest of the time, and that method made her able to adapt to any role by finding a bit of herself in each of them and then tapping into their emotions.
see, harry doesn’t trust people to handle the more vulnerable parts of her. she doesn’t open up. because of her dad, it was already in her nature to be closed off, but several happenings in her childhood/teenage years made her close up further: a nasty bullying incident, for one thing, and getting knocked up at sixteen, for another.
the pregnancy was absolute hell for harry, and she ended up having to take herself to the clinic for her abortion, because the one friend she’d trusted had blabbed to everyone else she knew. a while later, she finally worked up the courage to talk to her dad about it, only for him to respond that he didn’t want to know.
harry’s always lived a kind of “double life”; there are the things she lets people know about, and the things she doesn’t. you can see the bottom of this intro for a list of all the shit she keeps locked up tight.
instead of presenting her messiness to the world, what she offers outwardly is someone put-together and reliable, likable and nurturing toward her friends. she lets people lean on her-- and they do, finding her no-frills compassion very trustworthy. but she won’t lean on anyone but herself.
by the time orson died, harry already had a laundry list of secrets; and now she’s added the vandalizing of orson’s house to her list. she’s SUPER wary and observant, so you can bet she’ll be watching everyone like a hawk this semester, trying to make sure the group doesn’t collapse in on itself.

born in the upper-middle class suburbs of pittsburgh, pennsylvania to two parents who cared not about chandler the person, but rather chandler the reflection of them. they never laid a hand on her, gave her every comfort she could ask for, but they were/are too self-absorbed to really love her like a parent should love their child. 
her mother, aging beauty she was, and former stage starlet in an off-off-broadway production of cat on a hot tin roof, pushed chandler into taking acting classes, first enrolling her at the tender age of four. her feelings wavered towards acting but it wasn’t until her sophomore year of high school, in a production of a midsummer night’s dream, where she feel in love with it. and all because of a girl. 
her name was emily, and chandler thought she pulled the sun in the sky, hell thought she was the sun in the sky. emily was cast as hermia, chandler as demetrius. how fitting — demetrius doesn’t get the girl, and neither did she. nothing bad happened, chandler was just nervous and didn’t know how to show her emotions. sad. 
her role as demetrius started her long journey into tackling male roles, and only male roles, for the simple reason that her high school theatre department didn’t have enough boys to fill all of the required roles. and then she got good at it, and frankly, her mother did not care what role she got as long as it was a prominent one. 
chandler didn’t want to go to alderidge, not really. she liked that it was on the other side of the country, far out of her mother’s grasp, and she liked that it was a smaller, older school. she wanted to study literature, or philosophy, but her mother, of course, pushed her into acting, and only the best of the best would do. so they compromised — at least at alderidge, she could study shakespeare. and then, she got a full ride, and it was the only school she could afford to go to. how serendipitous. 
somewhere around her senior year of high school, her dad got into a lot of financial trouble, but they tried to keep it away from chandler. however, that plan doesn’t quite work when chandler’s mother views her more as a confidante, a vessel to fill her head with poisonous ideas about her husband, rather than a daughter. so chandler knew all about how her father got them into this mess, how he would ruin their lives, hence why she went to alderidge. and also why she never swayed from male roles, because she needed to keep her scholarship and stay in orson’s good graces (which as we all know, she was mayhaps a little too good at doing). 
so now we speak of it. the affair. torrid, passionate, all-consuming. it started one night, she stayed at rehearsals late, going over her lines, and she had gotten a text earlier in the day from her mother, letting her know that the house is in foreclosure. so it rattled her, made her kinda mess up at rehearsals. something unlike her, chandler is a perfectionist, and makes sure she knows all of her lines, so orson knew something was up. 
she didn’t realize he was still there, she thought he had gone home with everyone else. but he didn’t. and with some prodding and kind eyes, chandler poured her heart out to him, and he told her he took her seriously, and she fell in love.
chandler really thought her and orson were in love, were the exception to the rule. she’s a bit dramatic, yes, it comes with the territory. she wanted an all-encompassing, consuming, passionate love, like romeo and juliet. he never manipulated her, forced her to do anything she didn’t want to. except the lying. to her friends, her girlfriend, her peers. of course, he didn’t force her to stay with the scene-stealer, that decision fell to her. she wanted to have her cake and eat it too, but then her cake died.
she lost not one, but two people she was in love with: orson, obviously, and the scene-stealer. she’s going to go through all five stages of grief, maybe at once. she’s an actor, she feels things more strongly than anyone else, and there’s a lot to feel: she’s grieving the loss of a man she should have never been with in the first place, refuses to acknowledge that she should have never been with him, lost someone else she loved because of her actions and lied to them about it, and could potentially get kicked out of school because of this affair. mental!

before orson’s death, chandler was very mild-mannered, very chill, confident but not cocky. definitely tried to give everyone a chance, and very much wanted to make friends! 
now, however, she is like tony hawk: off the rails. angry at the world, will yell at anyone who looks at her funny, will probably punch anyone who says a bad word about orson, her relationship with him, her involvement in his death (there is none but rumors do be spreading), etc. 
used to be way too trusting! literally if you showed her affection in any way, she trusted you (obviously, a mistake in many situations), because she was literally so desperate for attention.
can be like a little bit pretentious in her tastes, but she just wants to talk about literature and gush over books and philosophy and stuff. not like a know-it-all, though if she knows something, she’ll say it. 
weird obsession with being right all the time. this goes with what i said above, but she needs to be right (like factually, and i guess morally too but we all know she isn’t lmao). had been learning to bite her tongue and choose her battles wisely.
perfectionist, is terrified of disappointing anyone, will cry. will, however, also demand that you recognize her when she fixed it.
a weird combination of a petulant child and stoic philosopher. so basically an aries.

jason was born to two parents who never thought he would happen -- after many failed times trying to pregnant, they had accepted the fact that they would never have children of their own so they decided to adopt.
but little did they know that jason would be born and so they got two children -- jason and his sibling ( the comic ). jason was born the same day in which his sibling’s adoption was finalized.
when jason was really little, he had grown up with a lot of optimism and confidence but it soon faded after years of living in the shadows of his sibling.
whatever people saw in his sibling, they just couldn’t see in jason even though he could see it in himself and every time he tried to stand out, he either made a fool of himself or just blended in more.
jason grew up largely feeling invisible in comparison to his sibling which led him to have a complicated relationship with them and a complicated relationship with himself.
jason is the king of biting his tongue and doing the grunt work that no one else wants to do. he puts everything into his craft and works his ass off, even though he doesn’t get the results that he wants.
as much as he tries not to, he resents his sibling and pretty much everyone who overlooks him -- including his peers, his parents, orson, and even himself.
he’s been delegated to the sidelines his entire life so being the utility isn’t anything new for him, fading into the background and being a cog is one of his specialties.
he lives in the shadows -- and it sucks. but it’s also home in some weird twisted way. he’s lived their for so long that it’s somewhat comforting, sometimes he thinks that’s where he belongs because he doesn’t feel like he belongs anywhere else.
personality
probably one of the shyest kids in the program -- he’s a lot more introspective and introverted than the typical theater kid.
his energy doesn’t really come out because he keeps most of his thoughts inside.
he’s super nonconfrontational because it’s just in his nature to do what others want and to kind of go along with everything instead of standing up for himself.
despite his timidness, he has a lot of things to say but he thinks so much that he never ends up saying anything.
he’s constantly trying to prove himself -- prove that he deserved his spot, that he belongs in the theater department, but his way of proving himself is just buckling down and doing the work, it’s not anything spectacular unless you see how hard he really does work
he’s the type of person to get revenge not by malice but by proving people wrong
he’s got a ridiculous work ethic -- he’s constantly reading plays and history and basically will not sleep until everything is perfect.
headcanons
he’s on financial aid because of how hard the school is to afford but his sibling has a full scholarship. his parents didn’t want to deprive him of the opportunity but they secretly wish he had gone to another school.
despite loving acting, he thinks that he could also have a career in writing plays/movies and/or directing because he’s always had ideas and thoughts floating around his head

orson
jason had a weird relationship with orson. he hated him, hated that way that orson never really saw him the way he wanted to be seen -- but he still craved his approval.
orson always compared jason to his sibling and told him that he wasn’t good enough, that he was just filling space on a stage. there was a part of jason that wanted to prove him wrong but a part of jason that believed it.
jason saw orson clinging to his life, begging for help. jason had always thought of himself as the type who would do the right thing when the time comes, but that night, he laughed in orson’s face and walked away.
jason feels guilty but relieved at the same time. he could’ve helped orson but not helping orson also helped him because he hopes he can get into the good graces of the new director.

&& history––
jonah’s got legacies on both sides of his family. his father, william pryce, is the heir of a meat distribution company based in pennsylvania that’s become one of the largest beef distributors in the continental united states. his mother, charlotte sinclair, is from old money that’s now tied up in several magazines / newspapers in the tristate area
his whole childhood, he could never figure out why william hated him so much, why william would never give him an ounce of paternal love, not the way he did with jonah’s brothers. and then one night, in a drunken tirade, william reveals: jonah’s a bastard. he’s not william’s son, but rather a product of charlotte’s infidelity
the truth of who he is makes too much sense to jonah, contextualizes everything that’s ever happened to him, and it breaks something in him. he grows into the role of the ‘destroyer’, the villain, the bastard. he learns coldness from his father, apathy from his mother, and shoulders the guilt of his own birth as though he’s not just a child, as though he did something to deserve this. he comes to realize, it’s not that he did anything wrong. simply put, jonah was just born wrong.
theater helps, and he’s good at it too, but it doesn’t undo the ache of being cast aside. jonah becomes obsessed with finding his birth father and finally, after sixteen years of pretending, he confronts his mother, who reluctantly gives jonah his name: desmond burnes.
desmond burnes is a playwright, much to jonah’s delight. and he’s an alderidge alum (which is why jonah even applied here to begin with). the summer before he goes off to college, jonah decides to go to new york to track down his dad, using a summer theater program at columbia as a guise for tracking des down. and at first, des is everything he wanted in a parent: thoughtful, attentive, engaged. but the more jonah gets to know him, the more he realizes how hot and cold des is, how similar the two of them are, in all the worst ways.
the summer ends in turmoil, as you would expect. jonah developed a bit of a crush on hugh, the prop designer for des’ play, not realizing that des and hugh were already entangled sexually. jonah finds the two of them together, and it breaks him, not because he’s jealous, but because he realizes: des will never be the kind of father jonah’s needed his whole life. it leaves a hole in his heart, a void he thinks will never be filled.
until....enter stage left!! orson hobbs. that slimy mother fucker saw how much pain there is in jonah, but also saw how he could harness that deep, deep agony for something great. and jonah, for what feels like the millionth time in his life, put all of his trust and love and hope into the wrong fucking person because he was so desperate to be good in jonah’s eyes, so desperate to have someone who saw him and wouldn’t leave, like everyone else before orson.
his relationship with helen really threw a wrench in that though. orson always liked jonah broken, and with helen, he finally sound some sense of healing. so he reeled jonah back in, using the role of achilles as the hook line and sinker, and jonah, oblivious to how he was being manipulated, fell for it all. he’s always been so susceptible to changing himself for the approval of other people, always twisting himself into whatever shape he thinks people want to see. it’s only towards the end, days before the curtain rises for troilus and cressida, that jonah understands: orson never cared about him. orson likes him broken, docile, his. and orson will cast him aside if he refuses to comply.
orson’s death has shaken him to his core because, even though he didn’t kill orson, a part of jonah knows that, if he saw orson that night, he would have. knowing he has that rage in him, knowing that that’s what he’s truly capable of... he’s never felt more wrong, more evil in his whole life, and hell, maybe that’s just who he is. maybe he’s failed, so many times, at being good because he’s got a black mark on his heart, just like des, just like william.

hello ! i’m natalia & i’m still sort of shocked that i’m even here. i’m SO excited to write with all of you talented, lovely people. quick facts about me before we jump into my character: i’m 24, live in the cst timezone, and my pronouns are she/her. i work at a library and love discussing books, so hmu if you ever wanna nerd out.

grew up in tybee island, georgia. her southern accent becomes more prominent whenever she’s really angry or distressed.
CHILD NEGLECT TW: “raised” by a single mother who was incredibly neglectful and cared more for her one-night stands than raising her two daughters. zahra is the oldest, and had to take care of herself along with her younger half-sister rima. zahra never knew her father, and always guessed that her mother didn’t, either.
as zahra grew older, the boys on the island and the men her mother brought home began paying more attention to her. she was a beautiful girl, but the attention made her feel uncomfortable at first. eventually, she realized that she could use her sexuality to her advantage. she would be sweet on her mother’s boyfriends to make sure that they didn’t pay any attention to rima. she would also get intimate with shop boys in exchange for groceries, things like that. as a result, she got a bad reputation on the island.
wanted to become an actress after falling in love with classic old hollywood films. her dream is to star in movies one day, but knows that every serious actor does live theater. this is why she applied to alderidge, the most prestigious school she could find. never really expected to actually attend, until her mother kicked her out and left her with no where else to go.
SEXUAL ASSAULT TW: one of her mother’s boyfriends groped her in front of rima, and she retaliated by kicking the shit out of him. her mother took the boyfriend’s side and kicked her out, forcing zahra to leave rima (who is still a minor). promised to come back for her sister once she finally became successful enough to support them both.
with nowhere else to go, she hitch-hiked all the way to alderidge for her in-person audition. got in with a ton of scholarships, and was sort of seen as the school’s charity case. she immediately did whatever she can to break out of that mold and prevent people from pitying her, proving that she did deserve a spot.
of course, she has a reputation around alderidge, too. one of the most scandalous ones is that she’s sleeping with the directors, and that’s why she gets lead roles. zahra actually works damn hard to get noticed by orson, who often didn’t take her seriously because he didn’t think there was much substance beyond her pretty face.
that said, she’s also not above sabotaging her peers in order to get ahead. her argument is that if they can’t handle her, then they can’t handle the cutthroat world of showbiz. she is an incredibly talented actress, but she knows that raw talent isn’t enough to make it to the top and is more than willing to do whatever it takes to become successful.
of which includes stealing orson’s notebook from his house the night of the party! she knows the cast list for the school play and is gonna try to use that to her advantage.
personality:
can be ruthless and cruel but is a true romantic at heart. just wants people to see her for her talent, instead of just a pretty face. that said, she kind of prevents people from getting too close because she has a tendency to choose her career over anything else. as much as she despises being judged for her looks, she’s not above using her sensuality to her advantage to get what she wants from a situation. although she despised orson, she is secretly so frustrated that he died thinking she was merely a pretty face, and that she’ll never have the chance to stick it to him.
wanted connections:
competitive relationships!! Tthe nastier the better tbh. think ash ketchum/gary oak vibes. would love for someone she can verbally spare with, who relishes in her being typecast and isn’t afraid to put zahra in her place and use her reputation against her. at the same time, the two of them challenge each other to be better actors, and they would actually be devastated if the other wasn’t around to motivate them.
zahra isn’t above sabotaging or manipulating others to get ahead. i’d love for her to have hurt someone in the past and have them hold it against her. [erhaps try to confront her on it or even get back at her for what she did? aahra would argue that the program has always been stacked against her and that the industry is cutthroat, and any successful performer would do the things she did to stay ahead. but i want her to be forced to recognize that she’s hurting fellow performers to benefit herself, and that she’s not doing much to better the industry by playing along with a dirty game.
i love a good old fashioned exes plot. the angstier the better, ok. maybe zahra broke their heart b/c she was just using their affections towards her to get ahead in the program. or maybe they broke HER heart and now she’s extra nasty to them whenever they bump into each other? honestly anything goes here, i just want to give zahra an ex ok.

hello everyone ! my name is kiwi, i’m 20 years old, vibing in the est timezone, and i use they/she pronouns. a fun fact about me is that i’m actually studying theatre in college right now !! if i was a skeleton in this rp, i would definitely be the comic, as i tend to get typecasted into comedic roles in literally every show that we do ever (will i ever play a romantic lead in my life? probably not. i’ve made my peace with it.)
i will be writing the incomparable paola, everyone’s favorite rachel berry wannabe. while you can read her full bio HERE (and i’ll love you forever if you do), i’ve included some bullet points below because i know that i wrote a lot nsfkgjdfs
SO without further ado (adieu? ado? adue? how did i get into this rp, i have literally one braincell) i present to you: the grand journey of paola perez.
fictional character inspirations include: rosalie hale from twilight, dany from game of thrones, winter anderson from american horror story, maddy perez from euphoria, mariana foster from the fosters and (bc i have to) angelica schuyler from hamilton and also rachel berry from glee (don’t @ me, i had to do it)
ABOUT.
paola is the only child of luciana perez, an immigrant from colombia who fled her hometown of quibdó before her daughter’s first birthday. she got an american work visa, packed up all her things, and left the life she knew behind.
they never found a place to settle down in the united states, and moved around every couple of months to avoid detection and suspicion from neighbors and authorities.
(RACISM TW) this was exciting for paola, and she never really gave it a second thought until one day in the eighth grade when a boy told her to “go back home,” and that she wasn’t a “real american.” this made her upset as she didn’t know what he meant and she ran home to her mother immediately, demanding an explanation.
her mom was about to explain when the phone rang and she was told by a coworker that they needed her at work. she told paola to pack a bag and head to the neighbors for a bit. her mom never came back and she’s lived with her neighbor, linda, ever since.
she did not find out what happened to her mother until a year and a bit later, when linda sat her down and told her that her mother wrote her a letter, and she wanted to explain what happened to her first.
(DEPORTATION TW) the phone call her mother received was from one of her coworkers who was also undocumented. she said that ICE (immigration and customs enforcement) had shown up at their place of employment and was asking questions to employees, getting information about the ones who weren’t at work that day. if luciana didn’t go to work in that moment, ice would have shown up at her door that night, and they would have taken both her and paola into custody. her mom was now back in colombia, and paola was alone.
she wasn’t entirely alone, however. she had the theatre program at school and she had linda at home, and at school, she was super successful. she got lead role after lead role, building her resume so that she could get into a good college and then have a successful career and be able to take care of her mother.
things that happened before the end of her senior year also included officially being adopted by linda and applying to DACA (deferred action for childhood arrivals)
upon arriving at alderidge, paola realized that she could be anything she wanted to be, and what she wanted to be was rich and powerful and successful, and SO homegirl lies about being on scholarship and having tons of money and basically has created this whole second identity as a wall between her and everyone else.
she loves orson. not in like a romantic way, but in a “the only father figure i’ve ever known” kind of way. she used to spend hours in his office crying, working on assignments, getting advice from him on grad schools and life after college. his loss is devastating for her, and she’s definitely gone into full conspiracy theory mode.
HEADCANNONS.
i think for her audition monologue to get into the school she did the “out damned spot” monologue from m*****h, and i think that orson shed a tear at her performance.
she has saved a flower from every show that she has been in, pressed it, and preserved it so that after she graduates, she can have something to take with her to each dressing room she ends up inhabiting during her career.
linda tries her hardest to travel from florida to washington to see every show she can. if she can’t be there in person, she will email the school repeatedly until she gets a video recording of the performance. linda and paola have a tradition where after each show, they get ice cream and just talk MAD shit about everyone else in the cast. this is alive and well, and even though they sometimes do this over facetime, they still love doing it.
paola is really bright ! like super academic (enough to get a full ride to alderidge) but that’s something she keeps under wraps. she does have to maintain a 3.0 gpa to stay at school on her scholarship, and that is something she’s never had to worry about. she’s also minoring in business b/c even the most confident among us gotta have back up plans.
(TW: DRUGS) let’s talk about coke ! i imagine that her and the leading man found orson’s secret stash one day years ago and tried it “just for shits and giggles,” expecting to do it once just to try it and then to never do it again. that didn’t work, and now she is sort of reliant on it. she does coke before every performance and audition, when she needs a little pick me up to finish an assignment or to memorize the last of her lines, at parties, literally any reason she can find to take more she will take more. this is a problem !! homegirl needs an intervention, stat, or else she is not making it to broadway, no ma’am.
i think she has a completion compulsion, meaning once she starts something, she has to see it through. this manifests itself in many different ways. she won’t move on to the next question on a test until she answers the one prior, she won’t quit a project in the middle of it until she has some sort of finished project, won’t quit a club or a show or a commitment until the end. this also can be seen in her friendship w/ the scene stealer !
okay this is just because i’m a huge theatre nerd but i think she was definitely mayzie la bird in seussical the musical at some point, also probably the witch in into the woods and then i think her senior musical was mamma mia and she was donna.
her dream roles include harper in angels in america, lady m*****t in m*****t, and honestly probably goody proctor in the crucible (although she’s SUCh an abigail williams, smh).
she was born on the same day as barack obama and that’s not REALLY a headcannon, because it’s more a fact, but i think it’s neat.

WANTED CONNECTIONS
Below the cut are some potential connection ideas I had for Mads. I’m usually open for multiples on all the plots so feel free to come my way!

She wants to show people what the community theater can offer, and I think it’d be interesting to see someone who wants to attend these with her! Who has an interest in stuff outside of the Alderidge theater! Maybe a screenwriter, maybe someone who wants to put on their own production. Just anything outside of the usual Shakespearian drama.
When she’s off again with the Chameleon/Harry, she goes off on a quiet self-destructive path. That includes using other people to fill the void in her heart. Whether that’s in the form of a casual hook up or just someone who likes to enable her, there’s a lot we can explore here that I think would be fun!
I’m a sucker for angsty exes and having this already small group of theater nerds feel even smaller. Her experience with love is lukewarm at best, and she blames herself for it a lot of the time, so it’s like what happened here! How angsty can we get! Who hurt who first! 
Someone who knows Mads is a dealer, whether through the grapevine or Mads just knowing your muse won’t talk. They probably go to her for their needs and she’s fine with it. But with Orson finding out, she’s become more wary of how many people are actually watching her movements and may suspect your muse as someone who ratted her out. The truth probably is is that Orson is a shit.
Honestly, someone who suspects Mads killed him. She didn’t like being casted aside and didn’t exactly make her dislike for Orson a secret so this could be interesting to play out! 
I’m a sucker for found family dynamics, so this would take some time because Mads is closed off, but it’s definitely a possibility for her since she too is just lonely at the end of it all
Theater rivals! They may not actually hate each other or anything but they have a dynamic where they push one another because they want each other to do better. Your muse is probably disappointed she stopped giving her all in her performances now for Orson’s theater now, but they probably don’t know about her other works
Unrequieted pining! Whether by your muse or Mads. It’d be funny if she had a crush long ago and is now just awkward because she doesn’t know how to be like “yes I’m over it but you’re still cute.” She’s a disaster with this stuff.
Rebounds! Harry and Mads have been on and off again for a while and so Mads lowkey will go to your muse to fill that voice in her heart you know. We can go with this in any which way we plot out!

as we know, he went to alderidge to the theatre program. his mothers are super excited and supportive about it. since he became one of orson’s favorites from the very beginning, it made him feel as if he actually had big chances of succeeding and making it at the theatre.
teddy pretty much looks for paternal figures everywhere he can. daddy issues to the max. he wants to feel protected, like somebody’s got his back. in a way, his relationship with orson was based on these beliefs. and so...
teddy thinks he killed orson. even if he was still alive after their fight, he left him there to die. so of course he is responsible. and at first, he thinks he can make it, pretending that nothing happened. but now orson is showing up in his dreams, in the hallways, teddy can hear his voice everywhere. it’s driving him crazy. little by little, the guilt is consuming him, bleeding him dry.

got a tattoo of the fallen angel by carbanel on his 18th birthday. there’s a picture here. his mothers yelled at him when they saw it, but they’ve learned to accept it with time. 
background on his mothers: agatha newell has lived in Boston her whole life, a lawyer, can be very scary. the more stern mother of the two, she was the one punishing teddy every time he misbehaved. paulina smith is a mexican-american from chicago. she met agatha in harvard, when she was doing a masters in creative writing. they fell in love and paulina moved to the boston area permanently. she is an author, famous for writing on the topics of her own experiences growing up between two countries and her sexual identity as a lesbian. 
used to call orson his “shakespeare dad” when they were both high, alone in orson’s office. sometimes, he’d call him “bard-y daddy,” if only to see orson roll his eyes and shake his head. you see? daddy issues to the max here. 
if he wasn’t doing theatre, teddy would have gone into the classics. to everyone’s surprise, he is one of the best in nicole bashki’s class.
