So when Kanan finds Stray Catboy Ezra on the streets of Lothal (in Catboy AU #8392) and takes him in, Ezra doesn't speak for a long time. He adjusts to Kanan's presence after a couple weeks and relaxes, but he makes no kind of vocalizations all. Kanan is on the verge of hijacking a medical droid to find out if there's something wrong with the boy, but then one day he's jostled awake by this chirping, chattering, positively motormouth teenager who is pulling off his blankets and asking—between perfectly feline meows—for his breakfast, he's hungry, he wants fish and eggs and bacon and myeeaybe some waffles with butter, wake up wake up, Kaaayyynaaan, please please c'mon it's layyyte!

It comes and goes, the chattiness. Sometimes Kanan notices how quiet the ship is and gets up to go find out what Ezra's gotten into now (hopefully not trouble).

"Ezra? Where are you? Ezra?"

And Ezra comes pit-patting out of the vents or the overheads or some hidden corner, just waking up from a nap, and he's too bleary and happy to talk yet so all he does is just sing greetings to Kanan, and Kanan's heart just melts every single time
