There’s a moment of morbid anticipation that courses through the doctor at the other’s reckless approach, his green eyes narrowing in suspicion as the nightstalker clears his throat, alerting and garnering his undivided attention.

A glove comes off with the same moment that another glove is lifted, catching Joe’s wrist in a vice just as it makes impact.

Bold.

Malfatto does not visually flinch at the impact, his mask shielding him from the sting that would normally come from such an action — but instead the masked face turns, unnervingly slow, with a hushed, malevolent tone to match.

“Va bene. I’ll take care that she is completely unrecognizable by the time i’m finished with her, then.”

His grip then tightens, watching… waiting for another reckless move.

He knows they're heavy words, knows what a commitment it is to say them, but he can't bear not to when his kind is reeling so drastically. His fingers curl into William's back, gripping so tight they threaten to tear fabric.

He stills. Breathes out, hiding a wince when Joe clutches at him. William shifts his own hands up Joe’s back, holding him closer. He closes his eyes. It shouldn’t be like this. He should find some measure of joy in those words. But so should Joe. It shouldn’t be such a tattered thing dragged out, weighed down by anguish. 

“… I know.” When or where or how he realized it doesn’t matter now—only that it’s become a truth as certain and unquestionable as nightfall. “I love you too. You do not ever have to doubt that.”

There's a stunned silence that emanates around Joe, before he walks forward and wraps his arms tightly around the android, almost afraid to let go. "I thought you were - I didn't... know what had happened to you."

The android was surprised by the hug, but it wasn’t unwelcomed. He thought the man was going to stab him, in all honesty. He hesitated for a moment before he returned the hug, only feeling that of everything that had happened, this was what he missed.

“We had to go into hiding and… it was hard getting back online.”

The android closed his eyes, relishing in the feeling as he admitted, “I thought the same happened to you.”
