wait are half clan relationships a Bad Thing ™️ in these clans im curious also im scared for them

oh good i've been looking forward to talking about this

so Fallenclan has a different stance on Outsider relationships than the clans do in the books. they are, Technically, against the rules, but it's a rule that goes generally unpunished if broken, and almost always just has a blind eye turned to it. the clan recognizes that without the integration of outsider blood, there would be some. issues. so nobody ever reports on it if they know their clanmate has a one-off or even ongoing relationship with outsiders, like how Toro remained mates with Jattelik even after she joined the clan. of course, it's generally encouraged to get your outsider mate to Join the clan, rather than remain outside of it, but it'll go unpunished either way. even Ravenstar, as bitchy as he is, won't do much more than a figurative slap on the wrist for someone who broke this rule.

that being said. half-clan relationships are definitely against the rules.

the reason this differs from outsider relationships is essentially just because of inter-clan politics. if you're in cricketclan, and you have a mate in archclan, what happens if those two clans get into a war? what happens if you and the one you love are on opposite sides of the battlefield? there's really no winning in that situation. and what if you're in fallenclan, and your mate is in gooseclan? what happens when prey starts to dwindle in the territories? will you take food from your own clan to bring to your mate? there's a lot of ways that half-clan relationships can end badly. they are against the rules, and they will be punished if broken, usually by having another, more trusted cat act as a shadow to the cat that took a mate from another clan, to make sure they don't make any attempts to reconnect.

still, some cats have managed. usually with one-offs, like Quailcall, but some have managed to keep their relationships going in secret--like with Lightningtail, for instance. The only other cat who knows about her relationship with Lilystem is Crowflame, who has been instructed to keep silent until Lightningtail is dead.

A fun fact for you! Lightningtail is the mother of Mossfrog. Mossfrog is the Adopted mother of Cloudtuft. Here are Lilystem (Lightningtail's mate in Archclan) and Cloudtuft's sprites next to each other.

He looks like his grandpa and he doesn't even know it. Makes you wonder if he was always meant to be a part of the family :)

not wrong! but he did grow up on stories of the war :) he probably dislikes all the other clans (he sees them as "competition" for fallenclan) but Shallowclan most of all

The murder fan edit got me wondering, for us bad memory fam, who in Fallen has murdered and who was murdered?

We've had (checks notes) four murders so far!

Scorchstar murdered Sunwish, because she and Sunwish never got along, and when her mate, Nettlestem, died, she blamed Sunwish for not being able to save her. She was also Not Thinking Straight at the time

Otterslip murdered Stormsight, because Stormsight was going to reveal the truth of Sunwish's death, and because he blamed Stormsight for not being able to save Grassroot, his daughter, from being killed by dogs.

Ravenstar murdered Poppyfeather because he blamed her for "not being able to save" Littleleaf, and because he wanted to steal her position as deputy.

Ravenstar murdered Cherrystar, because he wanted to be leader, though he tells himself he did it because he needed power in order to keep Littleleaf safe.

am i the only who thinks Feathersight doesn't seem happy about getting with Opsrey???? he seems so upset/reluctant about it, and Osprey seemed either just upset or forceful/manipulative about it, but perhaps i'm just reading the scene incorrectly??

Feathersight isn't unhappy to be together with Ospreysight! the situation basically boils down to his mental health being absolute Shit due to the whole Ravenstar prophecy thing (he blames himself for two deaths because he thinks he wasn't able to interpret a prophecy correctly or in time, and hes worried he's being paranoid and imagining the whole thing), and his personal relationships suffering because of it. he and Ospreyswipe have always been very close friends, and since they were apprentices there has been a very obvious will-they-wont-they thing going on, but because of Feather's shitty mental health, he pushed Ospreyswipe away and was probably a dick to him at times, too. it was unhealthy for both of them.

Ospreyswipe didn't force or Feathersight into a relationship, the confrontation basically boiled down to "I am tired of you pushing me away and pretending we don't care about each other, romantically or not. I don't care if our relationship changes or stays the same at this point, but we need to talk about things and communicate, or else I am not going to keep letting myself be strung along." they sat down, talked, and obviously both had romantic feelings for each other, so they decided to be mates.

TLDR: No manipulation here! They just opened a clear line of communication and stopped pushing each other away.

made a little map of fallenclan territory! :D here's some notes about the locations

star-pool: named because of the way the stars reflect off it at night. very deep water, good spot for fishing and for teaching apprentices how to swim.

split-stones: commonly a monument that apprentices dare each other to climb. notably, it is nearly impossible to do so--the stones are covered in slick moss and have very sheer sides. its rumored that Goldenstar managed it once, but whether or not this is true remains to be seen

eagle's talon: the highest point in Fallenclan's territory. common place for eagles and ospreys to have nests, regarded as very dangerous, with poor hunting. sometimes cats will travel to the peak on a dare, and bring back an eagle feather back as proof

sky pine: the largest tree in Fallenclan territory. possibly a redwood. who knows

abandoned barn: not much more than a rickety frame and some rotten planks at this point, but it provides decent shelter from the weather, and is a good hunting place. sometimes young twolegs can be found lingering there

fox-pelt thicket: named for the incredibly thick underbrush, not unlike the thick pelt of a fox. good hunting, but difficult to maneuver

honey spruce: not the only spruce tree in the meadow, but the only one with a bee's nest. cats tend to give it a wide berth

river split: a large patch of sandy and rocky ground on the river's bank. a good place for elders to go and sun themselves

sungleam lake: so named because it is an excellent place to watch the sun rise. poor fishing, sometimes populated by twolegs

frog hollow: a marshy valley where frogs, slugs, and newts are often found. very thick, sticky mud, and large clumps of deer-grass. one of the most hated borders to patrol, due to the terrain

as of right now, we only have three outsiders! I can't remember if I've posted about them before or not, but here they are.

this is Kite! she's a Compassionate loner, with helpful insight. she's quite old, too, 150 moons! (outsiders have a very good chance of living to be absurdly old because of the way the game deals with outsiders)

This is Flashstorm. He's an ambitious loner, a good climber, and has helpful insight. He's 133 moons old

And finally, Hop. She's a righteous loner, fast as the wind, and a great climber, at 108 moons old

a few people have been wondering about the Skyfrost Surrogate thing so here's a little explanation post! note that I'm using the term Surrogate rather than Sperm Donor (which is technically the correct term) just bc the term sperm donor squicks me out a bit. id rather just say they fucked nasty for the greater good, but surrogate is shorter

so when Cedarberry announced she was expecting kits i was obviously. suspicious. since she is afab and so is Eris, her only mate. I peeked into the code and found out that the father was actually Teddyfluff. which was. odd? they had no romantic relationship at all, or even a friendship. Just a one-night-stand then, which would be fine because. drama. but I thought about it a bit more and decided that of ALL the cats to participate in an affair, Teddyfluff would be. extremely low on the list. just for the fact that he has the Loyal trait, but also because he's probably still mourning Sorrelstem, whom he loved very much. and I couldn't really see Cedarberry cheating on Eris anyway (they're so in love its unreal) so with a little code editing, I came up with a new story.

Cedarberry's best friend (besides Eris) is Skyfrost. Always has been, at least as far as I remember, so after she and Eris adopted Buzzardpaw, and he immediately moved into his apprenticeship, maybe they decided they liked being parents, and wanted to do it again, this time with kits a bit younger, and approached Cedarberry's dear friend Skyfrost to be their surrogate. This has the added benefit of not adding onto Teddyfluff's family tree (he already has five kids and five grandkids), and instead starting an entirely New family tree, with three cats who have no other family.

Will Skyfrost consider himself a father? No, not really. But I do think he'll be involved in the lives of the kit/s, as an uncle/close family friend. Kits in Fallenclan tend to be raised by the whole community anyway, so it works out! Although, if I can ever get him together with Moo, it would be exceptionally funny for the kit/s to have both two moms and two dads, so maybe he considers himself a dad in some nebulous way.

skyfrost! Love that guy. But why did Ravenstar pick him as deputy? I didn’t know they were particularly close

i'm glad you asked! basically, Ravenstar knows that his whole journey to leadership is suspicious as fuck. the deputy dies, and he takes her place at a rather young age, despite not having a fully trained apprentice. then, not even a year later, the clan leader dies, too (albeit by apparently natural causes). its weird!!! if all that happened and THEN he picked a cat that hadn't been in the clan all that long (like Levi) or was way too young (Flamefall or Sleepydawn), it would be even MORE suspicious. not to mention that a young leader is more or less expected to take an older deputy, to balance them out.

enter Skyfrost! largely trusted and respected by the clan, having lived in it most of his life, and having had an apprentice before. Ravenstar had to pick a cat that was respected/trusted, but he specifically chose Skyfrost for a combination of two reasons--1. he's one of the oldest warriors, so he won't be in the position of deputy for too long, making way for a more bloodthirsty/morally gray deputy that suits Ravenstar's liking, and won't be as suspicious since he'll have been leader for longer at that point, and 2. Skyfrost recently lost two cats that he was very close to, Poppyfeather and Hawkwish. He's easily manipulated in this state, especially considering Poppyfeather was the deputy before him (and before Ravenstar, of course). Ravenstar knows that he can use this to get him to accept more morally gray/harsh rulings.

So are starclan cats forced to give the new leader lives regardless of how they feel? Or did Poppyfeather and Cherrystar choose to be there? Like I can imagine if they were just like “yeah he sucks but the clan needs a leader”, but at the same time they really be giving lives to the cat who took theirs lol

Cherrystar had to give him a life, yes, but Poppyfeather was entirely voluntary. she wanted to give him a life and she wanted that shit to HURT. any influence she can have over him is good influence, in her eyes (then again, there probably wasn't a huge line of cats wanting to be the ones to give Ravenstar a life LMAO)
