sorry if someone asked already but what were your favorite men’s looks at the met gala?

I think my favorite is Evan Mock in Head of State. I love the inclusion of a corset. I love the high neck. And I think he stood out from a sea of white tie tuxedos.

When I first saw this on the red carpet, I thought Shawn Mendes was my favorite of the night. I thought he looked great (maybe a little bit safe) but the coat is gorgeous. I'm a little biased because I love seeing men wear tailored coats with the collar popped. I know some people said he was cosplaying as Dr. Strange, but I thought the coat was straight out of the gilded age. But then he took the coat off and he was lost in a the sea of black suits.

I also liked Riz Ahmed's take on gilded age fashion. Initially I saw him being interviewed from the chest up and I was confused as to why he was wearing a button down shirt. But once I saw the whole outfit and the meaning behind it...I couldn't help but love it. The gilded age wasn't gilded for everyone and when asked, he said, “In thinking about the Met Gala theme of ‘Gilded Glamour,’ I wanted to focus on the people without whom nothing Gilded would exist: the laborers, the workers, the unseen. This look is for everyone who thinks they don’t have a voice. They do.”

And I did quite like Russell Westbrook's look from Thom Browne. I loved the top hat. And I'll take a pleated skirt over a basic suit any day. I just kept coming back to his look as well.

Nick Sirianni holds the key to Jalen Hurts' Career

     

“Hey, Nick. I need your help.”

      “Sure. What do you need, Howie?”

      “We just paid the kid a quarter billion dollars. I need him for more than three years. I need you to not grind his body down in our rushing attack.”

      “No quarterback sneaks, Howie?”

     That’s not it, Nick. Every hit he takes potentially shortens his career. If he is always at the center of the mesh point, the NFC East defenses are going to pound him every chance they can. Win or lose, they are going to beat him silly.You can still run him when you need to. You can still sneak him when necessary. You need to change the offense to the point where he is not going to be black and blue after keeping the ball himself, or handing the ball off. It’s time, Nick.”

      “Yes, it is, Howie.”

     That was the conversation that Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni should have had this past offseason.

     NFL team success is relative to successful quarterback play. The Eagles know that enough to have made Jalen Hurts one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league. Running back success is relative to the amount of physical punishment sustained by a running back. It is time for the Eagles to let Hurts play quarterback full time, use him as an extension of the ground game, as opposed to its core.

     It is commonly accepted theory that running backs become much less effective as they sustain heavy beatings in a season, and over the sum of multiple seasons. Just when they reach their best (pun inteded) run of their career, many running backs quickly tumble down the back slope of that NFL king of hill scrum, and land onto a pile of Ezekial Elliotts, Larry Johnsons, Brian Westbrooks, Clinton Portises, Jamal Andersons, and Arian Fosters. It is an endless pile. I cannot see anymore numbers down there, but I can here the screams. “What, NFL? I’m worth more than that!”…”That kid just got outta college! I had 18 touchdowns two years ago!”…”I thought I was getting paid!”

     The Eagles know the numbers. They would not make a running back one of the top paid runners in the league. It would be a terrible risk. Once most running backs are worth that type of contract, they are usually dangling off the top of that hill, trying to keep their balance on a bad knee. Jalen Hurts has already sustained more physical punishment by this age than most other quarterbacks. He already compares more to running backs. In his two years as a starter he has 367 carries. That is 12.23 carries per game. Brian Westbrook carried the ball just 333 times in his first two years as a starter. Westbrook only had three more successful years before he landed on the pile. “Hey, Andy! I can still pass protect!”

     Many quarterbacks have lost their skills at least partially because they ran up that hill instead of staying in the pocket. Colin Kaepernick rushed 192 times, in his first two starting seasons. Then he fell fast. “Maybe I am kneeling, cause I can’t stand after those three surgeries!”…Yo, what up, RG3!”

     There is common opinion around Philadelphia that Hurts “runs smart.” The idea is that Hurts does not let himself get hit hard very often. Those with that opinion will probably also tell you that Kate Upton is a great actress. Hurts runs into contact maybe as much as he runs away from it. He has repeatedly lowered his shoulder and barreled into a linebacker in every one of his seasons. He gets pushed into half of the defense on short yardage runs. For people that think quarterback sneaks are painless plays, Patrick Mahomes’ brother will remind you that Pat missed two games in 2021 after a “painless” quarterback sneak.

     Until last season, we did not expect that Hurts could operate a typical NFL passing offense at a highly functional level. The Eagles did not think so either, if they really did try to trade for Russell Wilson. The Vikings game in week two of last season was our first glimpse of Hurts ability to be a great passing quarterback. Sirianni finally ignored all the wide receiver hitch passes and three yard tight end passes that had built this offense. You might remember them. They are those pick plays that either lose two yards, or get a ten yard offensive pass interference penalty. Instead, he let Hurts throw downfield at three different levels all game long, just like a great quarterback needs to do. Since then, Hurts has flourished in this more pro style passing approach. He has proved to everybody, including his bosses, that he was worthy of his new contract.

     Now that the Eagles understand Hurts value as a passer, they must retain that value by letting him dominate the league for the next six seasons. He is far less likely to do that if he is always dancing on top of that hill. Last year he averaged eleven carries per game. Some of them were sneaks, some were scrambles, and some were designed draws. (Whatever happened to a bootleg)? There were also a few kneel downs in that number. Sirianni needs to bring that average down from eleven to six or seven. That difference might make Hurts contract Roseman’s MVC – Most Valuable Cointract. The aim should be one or two sneaks, and two scrambles per game on average. Let him run no more than three designed runs and mesh point keepers total per game. That adds up to 6.5 carries per game. Add in about one kneel down on average per game, and that equals 7.5 carries a game. That is 3.5 per game less than last year. It might not seem like a lot, but it is 60 less hits on him per year. Those are hits that could bend him over that hill.

     If the Eagles really want to increase their chances of maximizing their leader’s success over the next six seasons, they will diminish their reliance on the ride and decide rushing philosophy, or abandon it all together. I doubt that they think they are ready for that. It would shock the entire NFL to see Hurts handing the ball off from under center. (“Play what? Whose action? What do you mean by play action”)? Twenty-five yards down the seam later, when Goedart breaks the tackle, you might just see the opposing defensive coordinator with his hands over his face, wondering what he should do next. If the ride and decide becomes used a lot less, than the defenses will not practice it as much. It could be even more effective, and keep Hurts healthier.

     There will most likely be a day when Hurts lands on the pile at the bottom of the hill. Most athletes do. Many running backs land their much faster. Let him be a quarterback. I can hear Hurts at the bottom now. “I still got paid, Howie!”

     This is the conversation that Roseman and Sirianni should be having today. “Hey, Nick! Nice T-shirt. Does that say, ‘Top of The Hill?’ I like that!”

NBA Playoffs Recap: Western

The NBA playoffs are in full swing and it has not disappointed. There has been no shortage of drama and excitement across the league and I will briefly recap on all of the happenings in the Western Conference.

In the Western Conference, the 1-seed Denver Nuggets have had no issues containing the Minnesota Timberwolves so far. Denver’s Nikola Jokic has displayed why he’s in the running for yet another MVP award. Outside of him, Jamal Murray has been equally as impressive for the Nuggets as the team has a comfortable 2-0 series lead. In order to catch up, Minnesota will need more from Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. Anthony Edwards exploded for a team record 41 points in Game 2, but it simply wasn’t enough to take down the Nuggets.

In the battle of the Bay Area, the Sacramento Kings have squeezed by Stephen Curry and the defending champions in Golden State. This series has been defined by physical play, which ultimately came to a head in Game 2 when Golden State’s Draymond Green stepped on Kings forward Damantas Sabonis’ chest. This resulted in a 1-game suspension for Green which can prove to be damaging for the Warriors’ chances to crawl back into the series. Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole have to contribute more if Golden State wants to get back in it. Otherwise, Sacramento has been incredible throughout the series and have all the moment as the series goes to San Francisco for the next two games.

The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers are knotted at 1-1 for the series. The stars for both teams have largely dictated the outcomes in the first two games. Kawhi Leonard has lead the Clippers on both ends of the floor, and Russell Westbrook has provided major contributions as well. For Phoenix, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant have consistently provided scoring and defense. Unfortunately for the Clippers, Leonard will be out for Game 3 due to a leg injury. For a team that’s already been playing without Paul George, the timing of this is truly devastating. Phoenix will ultimately look to take control of this series if the Clippers will be without their best two players moving forward.

Lastly, the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers are also locked in a 1-1 series. LeBron James has largely been the reason behind the Lakers’ postseason success. However, it was the Grizzlies that took Game 2 behind a spirited team effort. Memphis star Ja Morant was unavailable for Game 2 due to a hand injury sustained in Game 1. However, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks provided just enough for the Grizzlies to take down Los Angeles. The game didn’t go without some drama as Brooks and James exchanged pleasantries at the end of the third quarter. Brooks continued to go at James during a postgame interview by calling him “old.” With this in mind, everyone will be tuned in to see how James responds as the series turns to Los Angeles for games 3 and 4.

Kelvin Mackenzie is one of the biggest lying pieces of shit in the history of British journalism. In my opinion his lies about the Hillsborough disaster should have been enough to prove to everyone in positions of power this this prick is reprehensible bastard who should be left to rot for the rest of his meaningless life. However in the years since he wrote those horrific, upsetting lies he has continued to find work mainly by newspaper editors who want as many people buying their papers as possible even if it's because they're filled with baseless gossip and slanderous lies. He also posts a lot of unfounded shit on Twitter and relishes in ignoring when people fact check his bullshit and just moves on to the next lie. A while back I was thinking of starting a new Twitter page called "Chortul Spelleen Misstakes" where I would post whenever an article on the comedy website Chortle would spell a word incorrectly (which is basically every article) but now I think my time would better be spent on a page dedicated solely to writing insulting things about Kelvin Mackenzie instead. I keep trying to come up with a witty name for this page but because of the hatred this cunt conjures up in me all my brain will give me is "Kelvin Mackenzie Is A Fat Smelly Cock Cunt". It's not clever but it is concise. Theres a clip of Mackenzie giving "evidence" to the Levison enquiry where he states that his philosophy when he was editing The Sun was that if a story sounded true it was probably true and it was worth bunging in. With this in mind I think that I state in this pages bio that "All stories posted on this site were told to me by anonymous sources close to Kelvin and because they sound true I think they probably are true so they're worth bunging in". Later on I learned that the singer Aaron Carter died. I will state upfront that I know next to nothing about Aaron Carter. I haven't heard any of his songs and I know nothing of his career. However I do remember having a deep seeded hatred of this guy when I was a teenager because this lucky bastard both Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan. I had huge crushes on both these girls when I was a horny young teenager and so was insanely jealous of Carter for being able to bang both of them (presumably it must have been fairly easy though because Duff and Lohan were feuding at the time so he instantly had an in with Duff after he broke up with Lohan:

Watched my first live Lakers game of the year as they took on the Caveliers. They started off strong mostly thanks to Russell Westbrook but went to shit in the third quarter and had fallen 17 points behind. The Lakers have not been doing well lately...or last season for that matter. I have a theory why they're playing so badly (but keep in mind that I'm mentally insane and so it's probably not true...but it sounds true so it probably is true). LeBron isn’t that far off from overtaking Kareem Abdul Jabbar for the all time record for most points scored during an NBA career. He just needs to score another 1000 points and he'll overtake him. Since LeBron has already led the Lakers to a Championship win once before I think that breaking Kareem's record is now more of a priority for LeBron and he knows that if he just carries on playing games at a relaxed ace then he will indeed break the record in a couple of years. Perhaps the reason he seems to be taking it easy lately is because he doesn't ant to risk a serious injury this close to breaking the record and being seen by many (at least in terms of points) as the greatest player whoever lived. As much as it pains me to say it I think the Lakers would probably be better off without James at this point.

Tyronn Lue keeps the Clippers clicking

The Los Angeles Clippers have one of the most talented rosters in all of basketball. Four future Hall of Famers combined with excellent role players and depth make Los Angeles a super team. That being said, we have seen time and time again in the NBA that these teams often fail. When the Clippers beat the Suns 138-111, it was a reminder of how hard it is to make a roster full of stars work. Phoenix is 19-18 and would be a play-in team if the season ended today after being the talk of the NBA this offseason.

Lakers Blog: Can The Team Turn It Around?

NSince their famous Championship win in the 2020 season whilst in the infamous bubble, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a frustrating last two seasons.

 Equal now with rivals the Boston Celtics with 17 championships apiece, the Lakers have yet to find their groove after conquering Miami in six games at Disneyland.

 With the new season on the horizon and plenty of new faces at the ball club, can the Lakers again be the best team in the league? Here are three main talking points regarding the new Laker season:  

1. The Big Three

Free agency in 2021 saw a move that would shake the NBA world. Former KIA MVP and Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook would be traded to the Lakers in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harris and the 22nd overall pick.

Initially, this trade was well received by Laker fans as the team added another bonified star to their roster. Points were made that this would help take some load off Lebron James as well as Anthony Davis who is known to regularly get injured.

 The opposite happened, however. All three players would suffer injuries during different points of the regular season, meaning all three would play a combined 21 games. Lebron stated that he had played “I played more games with my high school teammates.”

 Therefore something must change for this ‘big three’ to work, and a move for Westbrook to the bench might be suitable, helping the team with their floor spacing.

2. New Coach Darvin Ham

It took the front office quite some time, but General Manager Rob Pelinka and Owner Jeanie Buss eventually decided to name Darvin Ham as the new Laker head coach after firing Frank Vogel in April of 2022. Vogel’s poor record with the team which consisted of 33-49, ultimately led to his demise in what was considered one of the most disappointing seasons of all time.

 Ham, who first started his NBA coaching career as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks, was able to win the Milwaukee Buck’s second-ever NBA championship under coach Mike Budenholzer. Gaining a strong reputation within the coaching world, Ham was one of five coaches on the Lakers’ coaching shortlist. He was officially announced to Lakers fans on the 3rd of June 2022.

In his press conference, Ham described his coaching style as “360 degrees, meaning both parts of the floor are connected.” He further mentioned that “you hear about these offensive gurus, or these defensive gurus, both sides of the ball off affect one another.”

No doubt it will be a massive challenge for the first-time head coach, but if he stays true to his philosophy, then the Lakers should improve from their dreadful record from a season ago.

3. Any mid-season trades?

Depending on how well Russell Westbrook plays for the Lakers at the start of the season, will determine whether he is an Indiana Pacer when the trade period re-opens.

During this offseason and like many other years, the Lakers were linked with several types of trade possibilities, the most frequent one being a package for Pacer players Myles Turner and Buddy Hield.

The team’s lack of perimeter shooting is a genuine concern and that is exactly what both Turner and Hield can provide for them.

 Though the problem in this situation is the reluctance shown by the Lakers. Both of their future first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 would have to be used to acquire the Indiana pair, which would then leave the Lakers with no first-round picks.

 It will most definitely be an interesting season for the Lakers, but as always the fans will rally around the team as they set sail for banner number 18!
