Hey Jen! For the bookish asks, could you answer the numbers 3, 13, 26 and 30 please? Thank you! Hugs, Marjan
Absolutely!
3: First book that had a major influence on you - Not to be That Millennial, but…Harry Potter. Absolutely Harry Potter. I never wanted to live in a fictional world until HP. My first fictional crush was the man himself. I came to it at just the right age and I never fuckin’ left.
13: What character would be your best friend in real life? - I’d probably get along pretty well with Cath and Reagan from Fangirl. Cath and I could talk about nerdy Internet shit, and Reagan and I could be snarky people-watching assholes together. It’d be great.
I’d also love to be buddies with Cam, Macey, Bex, and Liz from the Gallagher Girls books because teenage girls who are also super spies are the best people.
OH ALSO (I say as I ponder my answer to another one of these questions) I’d totally befriend Miri from Princess Academy, because I related to her a lot as a kid, and I still love her.
26: Do you read from recommendations or whatever book catches your eye? - Yes. I try to look out for things I know my friends or book bloggers like, and if I see an interesting cover, I’ll at least read the summary to see if I want to try it. I also try to keep up with certain authors that I love. There’s really no rhyme or reason to what I pick up - just whatever I’m in the mood for.
30: One book everyone should read - Ahhh, this is hard! I don’t really believe in “one size fits all” book recs - everyone has different interests and tastes, and I like catering to those. That being said, I’m a big fan of A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall. On one level, it’s your typical YA rom-com between a couple of college students, but the twist comes in in the format - neither of the romantic leads is a POV character. We hear from their friends, one of their professors, and even a campus squirrel, and it all comes together to make a cute, compelling read.
