Dune AU - FiKi
The Lonely Mountain.
Erebor.
Desert planet.
The only known source of Spice in the universe.
It has been ruled by House Drakus for six generations. They have controlled Spice production for longer than the current emperor’s family has been in power. House Drakus has gotten fat on their profits from Erebor and the Spice while the people have suffered under their tender mercies.
House Drakus became wealthier than the emperor himself.
And then it all changed.
House Drakus fell out of the Emperor’s favor.
And House Durin was put in charge.
Blessing?
Or curse?
Only time will tell.

GatheringFiKi Interest Survey 2023 - Results
Hi folks,
First of all, huge thank you to those who took the time to fill in our recent survey. We have now reviewed the results and have a couple of points we’d like to share.
1) The Headcount:
The first, biggest and most welcome surprise from the Survey is that there are so MANY of you! And most of you are new faces, which I think is just wonderful! Welcome, welcome, one and all!
The total of 23 people took part in the Survey (admittedly some of whom I have never seen take part in any events, but I have high hopes).
When I was leaving for my travels in September 2022, a similar Interest Survey presented a bleak picture, very different to today, with a number of people having clearly moved on (though not all!). Personally, I think it was the right call to accept and acknowledge that, re-subscribe those truly interested today, and re-focus my efforts and events targetting where it's actually wanted.
Please remember that if you ARE interested in taking part in our events, you can always ask to have personal notifications delivered to you whenever one is running - just message @linane-art
Of course, I am fully aware and very grateful that, apart from the folks taking part, there are also quite a few of you who consume the new content, read, watch, like, comment, reblog or just silently marvel and enjoy their (guilty?) pleasure. I love and appreciate you all.
2) Your Favourite Existing Events:
12 Days of Christmas - 18 votes
FiKi Week - 14 votes
Trick or Treat - 12 votes
Drabble Challenges - 11 votes
Durin's Day Gift Exchange - 11 votes
Kink Bingo - 9 votes
H/C Bingo - 8 votes
AUpocalypse - 7 votes
Fandom Raffle Exchange - 5 votes
Show Some Love - 5 votes
Fic of a Fic - 4 votes
Fanfic Rec Bingo - 2 votes
Secret Admirers - 1 vote
Round Robins - 0 votes
No surprises near the top: 12 Days has just ran and is beloved by everyone and FiKi Week is like THE Gatheringfiki event.
Trick or Treat also ran recently, but I think you also have a particular penchant for everything spooky/autumny.
Drabble Challenges are quick and easy, and I think a natural choice for a 'top up' event next to the big ones. I wonder if those of you who haven't experienced the speed and the 'write off all your other weekend plans'-ness of this event will think of it. :D
DDGE surprises a little, because it's a big commitment of an event, but I guess maybe because we're not running the Raffle regularly any more, and it's a similar enough thing? Or like a Big Bang? And there's nothing else that promotes actual collaborations. Intriguing.
The Bingos - always heat up the temperature in the room. I think those of you who want them, want them like burning. I also think (looking at hit counts), that there are also many more of you who, ah, enjoy the fruits of our labours, but like... anonymously and silently :D So long as those are not ran too often, I think they're a blast, and it's been 2 years.
AUpocalypse juuuust about makes it, but I think it has a special place, as it's the one event where artists can participate easily and have a fully free reign of what they create.
Please remember that if you are an artist and you're not sure how you can take part, we have this here handy guide for you.
Raffle is probably too big for the headcount we have, rec-type-events have not been popular for a few years now, Secret Admirers still out of favour (why???) and nobody liked Round Robins - fair enough.
3) Other Comments we got / possible New Events:
'A Dead Dove Event' - what is it, I've never comes accross it? Please message me on priv ;)
'Bring-A-Friend Event' - The incest thing will make some people uncomfortable, and those that check us out 'as a courtesy' are unlikely to actually get hooked. I think, by all means, spread the word if you know folks who might enjoy our fandom, but mostly it needs to be discovered on your own. Awareness of GF is the key.
'FiKi Bingo' - We already run 2 bingo-type events and a FiKi Week. I think that ticks both the desired format and desired content boxes.
'Valentine's Day Event' - there is nothing like that per se, but it is no coincidence that the Kink and H/C Bingos usually run around the time when everyone is feeling loved-up ;)
'I don't feel comfortable sharing my own content' - that is perfectly okay and your own choice. Nobody is going to try and push you. But I will say that if you have a supportive fandom, feedback can do wonders for your self-esteem and practice makes perfect. Otherwise, thank you just as much for your silent support.
'Discord Server' - I thought about it, but I think it'll be more of a problem than help. I don't know how to set it up, don't have the capacity to moderate it, only some people would be interested and many people will resist change. We've always said that Tumblr is our native platform and on Tumblr we will remain - don't want to dilute the fandom accorss multiple platforms, sorry.
'October Advent Calendar' - I'm sorry, I don't quite see how it would be different/better than Trick or Treat, except longer? Plus, 12 Days, which runs right after, has that element of 'something new to discover' every day ;)
'FiKi Mad Libs and Frankenstory' - see: Round Robins Event. And it scored 0 points, the poor thing :(
'Visual / phrase / poem / porny inspiration' - visual is addressed by 12 Days. Phrase/poem will be addressed by FiKi Week ;) Porny will be blocked by Tumblr :(
'Reblog-focussed Events' - Yes, agreed, but in the competition for calendar availability, all our rec-type events consistently lose out to out content-creating events. So we resort to caveating all our summary posts with pleas for reblogging and commenting. :/
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the wonderful and humbling words of encouragement I’ve received. I do what I do because of the people in this fandom and I will continue doing so for as long as there is interest in it. It’s what being in a fandom means to me, and hopefully it inspires some of you too :)
A Calendar of Events for 2024 will follow in a separate post.
Wishing you all a cracking New Year, filled with inspiration, joy, passion and feels, hopefully all whipped up by those problematic 2 little a$$holes...

GatheringFiKi Interest Survey 2020 - Results
Hi folks,
First of all, huge thank you to those who took the time to fill in our recent survey. We have now reviewed the results and have a couple of points we’d like to share.
1) Existing Events:
Fandom Raffle Exchange - 114 points
12 Days of Christms - 98 points
Drabble Challenges - 90 points
FiKi Week - 89 points
Durin’s Day Gift Exchange - 81 points
Secret Admirers - 60 points
Fanfic Rec Bingo - 59 points
Show Some Love - 58 points
It’s interesting that the Raffle comes first and with a big lead over others, and yet... see point 2. There is also a substantial difference between the bottom 3 (Secret Admirers, Fanfic Rec Bingo and Show Some Love) and the rest of the pack, so there’s a clear trend.
Based on those results we will retire Secret Admirers, Fanfic Rec Bingo and Show Some Love for 2021. Secret Admirers will return in 2022, the other two - we shall see.
2) To run or not to run the Raffle:
Yes - run it as usual in 2021 - 7 votes
No - Skip it in 2021, run some other events instead, then run the next edition of the Raffle in Jan-Mar 2022  - 13 votes
There will be no Raffle in 2021. Raffle will return in 2022.
3) New Events:
Kink Bingo + H/C Bingo - 49 points
AUpocalypse - 49 points
Fic of a Fic - 43 points
Round Robins - 39 points
That feels quite even and we think we can sneak in all 4 events into 2021 and perhaps see afterwards how they compare to the ‘old’ 8. Round Robins, with their lowest score, is maybe a bit of an indication that it could be a fun novelty once or twice, but not necessarily repeatedly?
4) New Events - Ideas:
DarkHawk Week or IoLuke Week or similar - While we welcome and are grateful for our DH and I/L folks (many of whom also ship FiKi), sadly neither of the 2 admins of GF ships those pairings. Consequently GF is powered by our love of FiKi which then creates a platform for other pairings as well. We know we have some fans who also ship exclusively FiKi, which would exclude them from taking part. Having said that, if someone else wanted to organise such an event, we’d certainly reblog it to help promote it!
An event that pairs together artists and writers - See: Durin’s Day Gift Exchange. Plus we have very few artists, far fewer than writers.
Chinese Fire Drill - Not a bad idea, but we already have a huge array of prompt-based events and the particulars of this event (number for a setting, letter for a prop) doesn’t seem to add any value compared to any other prompting system. However, we will keep that in mind for next years.
Whump bingo - See: H/C Bingo.
Cadaver Exquis - See: Round Robins.
What happens next? Event - We were actually considering a very similar event, although perhaps more focussed on how to inspire new updates to amazing multi-chapter fics long-abandoned or on hiatus (there are SO MANY old fics that had us hooked, but were never finished and we are dying inside every day because of it). After some brainstorming about this we found the following problems: 1) Quite a few authors feel protective of their babies and/or have specific plot points all mapped out. 2) Quite a few readers (particularly with anxiety issues) would feel hesitant about influencing the next part of a story they put on the pedestal. 3) There are some concerns about unintentionally taking over/losing control of your story. In the end, the compromise we’ve arrived at was the Fic of a Fic event - because at least it’s crystal-clear that it’s a ‘work inspired by’ story and we’ve figured that it’s not substantially different to fanfiction of the canon material. Should it happen to inspire some future collabs... suppose that just depends on how everyone approaches it.
Getting the boys hitched - Good idea, we just simply don’t know if we’d be able to fit it into the year among other planned events, particularly if it was to take a whole month. Also, we think this might be a one-time-only event? We’ll keep in mind for future years.
Canon Fest - Again, a good idea, though only for FiKi we think (how to identify canon for Britchell or DH??). We are going to incorporate this into FiKi Week 2021, minus the ‘claiming’. We were thinking of using iconic scenes from the films as prompts, but in the course of brainstorming we settled more for ‘missing scenes in between canon’. Stay tuned!
Find a way to spread the fan art around a bit more - we’d LOVE to. But how?? Also how to attract new artists into the fandom? Any ideas - please put in the comments.
Another Photosets Challenge - Problem 1) Identical to 12 Days of Christmas, just different theme. Don’t want to accidentally turn it into a ‘too much of a good thing’. Problem 2) It’s a substantial undertaking to pre-prepare that many photosets, particularly considering our personal plans for the near future that are already in the works. Problem 3) The first edition of that was the least popular event we’ve ever ran (which makes 12 Days so surprising!).
The other, perhaps surprising, thing about this Survey is that there are probably about 20 of us in total (though there’s no way to evaluate how many ‘lurkers’ we should count among that number). That’s it, that’s the fandom. So if you’ve ever felt that your voice, your contributions, your comments, your very presence or absence doesn’t really matter - IT ABSOLUTELY DOES! “We may be few in number, but we’re fighters!” :)
We wanted to also take this opportunity to thank everyone for the wonderful and humbling words of encouragement we’ve received. We do what we do because of the people in this fandom and we will continue our work for as long as there is interest in it. It’s what being in a fandom means to us and hopefully it inspires some of you too :)
