The animatronic's eyes shifted colors as one of their hands twitched violently. They'd been watching the monitors for hours; nothing new and nothing unexpected. It was normal for him to watch these days and to observe or at least see who came in who wasn't meant to be there.

This night was.... unexpected.

A visitor that he thought wouldn't have returned, but he would be a gracious host tonight.

The lights would turn on by themselves and one would notice the place was cleaned up quite well. Afton had been busy trying to make the place look decent after-all, but he still had missed a few places and the blood stains were staying for the time being.

Well, by putting Michael to work, of course. Correlating ‘Michael’ with ‘creating’, ‘building’, ‘working’, matching them in his head like some twisted Pavlovian response, so that when he thinks of Michael he thinks of all he’s proud of as opposed to what he’s not.

Heavy hand sets itself over Michael’s smaller one, guiding his son’s fingers over the dangerous bolts and locks inside the spring suit. His gaze is softer and less unsure when he looks at it, and falters when he looks at Michael. “ Look closely. ” He says, not an order, but not a request either, voice verging on tender if not for the odd look in his eyes. “ All those different parts, all working together to hold back the springs and inner body. If one fails, well, then they all begin to fail. It’s a delicate mechanism. ”

"we don't have to go in if you don't want to." the pizzeria looms over them, holding a different meaning to her now than she ever could have imagined. it had once been an oasis, then a place of decrepit memories, of fear and family and wistfulness and guilt. but now this is the place that she died. the place where her father killed her. she's alive, sure, but she hadn't been, for a few moments. that counts, she thinks. horribly, it makes her feel better. makes her one of his victims in a way that feels more real. like dying is a rite of passage, like she owes it to the kids, the other victims. and she does. when emily looks inside herself, she knows she does. "i just don't want to bring abby there if..." a deep breath shudders out of her. "if the kids are gone. and if--" she chokes back a wounded sound. when she speaks again, her voice is impossibly small. "if he's there."

it's a fear she rarely acknowledges. with the kids, it's a little easier. the thought of losing them had been painful, but with the pizzeria so completely out of reach, she'd had no hope of seeing them. emily has elected to believe they've been able to move on, to rest. she hopes so dearly that that's true, that they haven't had to be without her, that they aren't in pain. but if her father is there... her only hope is that he went with the suit. that his unfinished business is died to that damned thing and not the place itself.

the police–– the real police–– had been involved while she was comatose. mike had been the one to explain most of it to her; how with the revelations she'd provided about afton's crimes, a more thorough investigation had been carried out. the place was mostly cleared out, but the building still stood and technically belonged to her now. it's been months since the trial, all of which is a blur. it almost feels like everything must have happened to someone else–– not her, not emily, but vanessa. like someone she was in a past life.

standing here, though, it's all too real. back where we started. he isn't kidding.

his familiar face had been a welcome sight amidst a swarm of strange adults and the children of varying ages they struggled to keep in tow. in a school gymnasium currently housing not displays of athletic prowess but of artistic inclinations ( talent might be pushing it, judging by some of the works ), ellie finds herself both horrifyingly out of her element and surrounded by sights not all that far in her past. she's not entirely sure which is the more disorienting.

it wasn't even rush hour. they had no reason to all need to be driving at the exact time that she needed to be. especially considering that her rehearsal had run late. ❛ she was worried I wasn't going to be here, wasn't she? ❜ there's a twinge of guilt that accompanies the question, a belated acknowledgment that she could have, and perhaps should have, called. no, there's really no perhaps to it, but she'd been so singlemindedly focused on getting here.

VERSES

1996 Set during or around 1996. Sidney is in high school and her boyfriend is Billy Loomis. About a year ago, her mother was murdered, and the man Sidney testified against is going to prison, eventually to be executed.

1997 Canon divergent. Sidney is at college, but she is not dating anyone and she's keeping herself mostly isolated from everyone except her friends Randy and Derek and her roommate Hallie. She's mostly trying to keep a low profile while there's a movie being made about the worst year of her life. Then, the murders begin again...

TODAY Canon divergent. Sidney lives in a secluded house with plenty of security. She only stays in contact with Dewey, her father, and any friends from Woodsboro who are still alive depending on the verse (Randy and Tatum for example). She occasionally leaves her home, but always keeps a very low profile.

Then, they were replaced by a horrified emoji flashing at a slow pace, and his lower eyelids rose to try and mimic the expression. His ears flipped around to point almost directly behind his head, and any emotion that Sam could not convey with his face came across loud and clear in his voice when he cried out,

"Souls can get stale?!"
