2nd part of the backstory...
Ottawa was an entirely different beast.
That argument could be made for any Canadian city for an inexperienced kid from the U.S., but it wasn't just the city nor the country. The atmosphere of the team itself was different...and he liked it. Detroit felt like work, because of their history, which led to pressure and expectations. The Senators didn't, despite being a Canadian team and that carrying it's own set of expectations. He knew the team was rebuilding, which he figured was the reason he was brought in in the first place, but they didn't take themselves seriously all the time, which he found refreshing. Practice and skate sessions seemed a pleasant mixture of work and fun, and he was welcomed almost immediately rather than having the "awkward new kid" experience he expected. The coaches and players were excited to have him, he was excited to be given a legitimate shot at the NHL, and he was excited to see what the upcoming season would bring. On the other hand, he did feel like he was having to play catch-up, not because he wasn't a good player, but because he did not have the shared experiences the others had: national development teams, AHL experience including playoffs (he had a total of eight games with the Manitoba Moose in two seasons), and especially being drafted.
He finished pre-season with four goals and two assists, even getting a few fights under his belt. This seemed to garner approval from the team's captain, Brady Tkachuk, who banged his stick on the boards the loudest.
When head coach Jaques Martin called him into the office, he couldn't help but have that pang of dread, fearing a repeat of what has happened with the Red Wings. He took a seat, bracing himself for the worst, but hoping for the best.
"Needless to say, I've been very impressed with you, Devin. We don't usually see this level of play from undrafted talent, let alone with limited playing experience. There as no time with the US National Development Team listed in your file, nor any notable junior hockey experience. How'd you get to this point?"
"No, there wouldn't be, I reckon, but uh, I didn't start hockey until I was about 9 or 10. I feel in love with it after going to my local team's games. My junior experience was spent with the Hampton Roads Whalers, in the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League. Never did get up to the elite level, but after going undrafted, the Norfolk Admirals picked me up."
"Well it seems we've found a diamond in the rough, so to speak." Coach Martin cleared his throat and leaned forward, forearms resting on the desk, his fingers laced together. "I'm sure you'd agree your game needs work, but I don't see anything that warrants any sort of extended stint in a lower league. I'm willing to take the gamble and put you on the third line. You'll be on the wing until your face-off wins improve."
His eyes lit up, and he had to remind himself to be professional. "Thanks coach, that's greats news. I wholeheartedly appreciate the opportunity."
Afterwards, he met with the Senators' equipment manager to get his gear in order, mostly for a number change and to get his specifications on file. He put got a new helmet, but refrained from getting new skates or a new type of stick. A few days later, it was contract signing day. The Senators saw fit to offer him three years for $0.850 million, an offer that, per his agent, was unusual for an undrafted rookie. He had the biggest smile on his face for the photos. Finally, there was quick media availability.
"Devin, you went from being undrafted, through pre-season, and now making your NHL debut. What do you expect for this game?"
"I think it's gonna be a challenge, for sure, but I'm also just trying to enjoy it."
"For those who haven't followed your career, how would you describe yourself as a player?"
"Ha, well, as my fans in Norfolk will tell you, the hardware comes second to me. I'm looking to help the team win and play the game I love."

The hills of Hampton Court were blurry with rain; reduced to swaths of aqueous gray and green, wobbling over the horizon, the earth’s distant curve imperceptible from the royal stables. Dudley glides a leather-gloved hand across his horse’s chest, the Jennet's heartbeat thrumming through the spectacular knot of muscles encasing her lungs, glowering as the beast swings her long neck and hinges her doleful gaze to his. ‘What is it, girl?’ Leicester murmurs, scratching behind her ears and earning an appreciative whinny from his – notoriously volatile – Hestia. ‘Where’s the harm in a little rain?’ He asks, the pitter-patter on the roof almost too gentle to hear: a soft drum, a splash into the sopping-wet ground, hissing and gurgling as it drains into the gutters. Hestia husks out a nicker, returning Dudley’s query with marked ambivalence.
They hadn’t much time to ready. Less than an hour to primp and preen, to saddle Hestia with the bulky weight of the Earl’s armory and caparisons, for come morning, Dudley would be, with the rest of the King’s middling retinue, riding hotly out to Dover; facing at least a two-day journey (three, if the grounds remained pulpy) galloping full out across the rutted, boggy fields of England, clods of deep-chilled earth flying from the hooves of King William’s destriers; speed and glory hampered by decorum and the lay-of-the-land, all forced to tarry behind the King and his ever-growing string of paramours. What lay ahead in Dover brought yet another lour to Leicester’s lips, deepening the lines of consternation flanking his mouth. He turns his face, dark as a cloud, to the sound of nimble footfalls crunching over a smattering of hay, a halo of humidity-wizened hair fanning about Elizabeth’s oval-shaped face. Hestia swished her tail, clouting against the stable doors. But with an ease for which he was lauded to command his geldings, Dudley held Hestia at bay, the stony arrangement of his brow not yet revealing the tempest of emotions he felt at Elizabeth’s presence.
Bess … Her name ghosts across his lips long before he musters the good sense to curtail such familiarity. ‘Your Highness,’ The Earl greets, his voice gruff, as Hestia releases a disgruntled neigh, white vapour blowing from her nostrils. Dudley then lowers himself into a deep bow before the Princess, one hand at his abdomen and the other conducting a flourish. ‘I hear I am to congratulate you, lady regent. You have all that you desire now – the crown jewels, your brother's power, and a court of ready subjects.’ Decidedly grim, he punctuates, ‘you must be thrilled.’

Trying to figure out who made/marketed these fans.
The blue one (we have a matching set of these), I think may be Hampton Bay from long ago (1980’s). The others, I have no idea yet. Hunter seems to usually broadcast that it’s a Hunter, and these have no names on them.
But I’m pretty new to ceiling fan identification.
The one in the Great Room (metal ceiling) is running 24/7 now to break up the stratification in that large space. One of the blue fans is doing the same in the Great Hall.
I’m a big fan (hah!) of these in tall ceilinged spaces in the heating season.
But, these are AC motors, and not so efficient at that. I have the manual for the fan in the Sewing Room, and that one IS a Hunter, but there is no specification page. That’s a much newer, 2013 model, so go figure.
At any rate, we are replacing the one in the Great Room with a DC motored Modern Fan Company Industry model. I’m figuring it should save us 50-60 watts of energy, and being always on this time of year, that will offset one circulation pump.
Our “always on” energy usage is now 280 watts, up from ~150 watts in the Summer, and I think these fans may be the source of that increase.

Hampton bay ceiling fans
Hampton bay ceiling fans can be a little more expensive than other fans, it could possibly be well worth the more cost. In contrast towards the aged traditional threshold fans that frequently appear a little mad and clumsy to place in your home the Hampton Bay bring something exclusive to every room, their unique design plus the elegance they bring with them towards the home is unparallel, as far as threshold fans go i think that these are the type that would doubtless bring to any room in the home without compromising the very first design. These fans are exclusive and a number of individuals discover them especially appealing, the unique design and high quality the fans have bring something to any home, for consumers they are modern and exclusive, something to like about them.
Hampton Bay 54 In. Sidewinder Brushed Nickel with Opal Glass Ceiling Fan is noiseless, smooth, contemporary and very contemporary. I really like that this fact that the fan comes with a light, the size are great, the actual contemporary style and color and it also included a push button switch which means that no strings to pull. This ceiling fan does a fantastic job at keeping your living area cool. It's very silent that you won't be able to even tell that it's on. You will be able to control the speed of the fan together with the degree of light with just a touch on the remote. These fans are very powerful and even come with everything except the battery for the remote. This is a gorgeous stainless/brushed nickel look and also an very silent fan, installation is easy, nevertheless, you will need a second hand to finish things off with the blades. It circulates the air much better than any of our other fans. Comes complete with remote and looks great in any living room. The replacement domes are somewhat expensive, so be careful and don't break the light. The combination with the clean steel appliances in a kitchen is perfect. These Hampton Bay ceiling fans are a good value, with their contemporary styling and convenient wall remote that controls all functions of the light and fan. This eliminates pull chains, adding to its good looks. However, be aware that the remote transmitter is too large to fit into a conventional sized ceiling box. The dimmer on the light and the remote control are great features. The wall remote allows the light to gradually come on, adding to the ambience of the room. Wiring is a little tight with the remote receiver. Not only are they attractive in appearance, they work silently and provide substantial air movement for our comfort. The wall-mounted controls are very handy and eliminate the search for another remote. I would highly recommend this fan to anyone considering it. It also comes in a model with black blades that my husband also liked, so that is another option.

Wheeling Nailers Announce 2023 Training Camp Roster & Schedule
Tumblr media
The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, have announced their 2023 training camp schedule and roster. The Nailers will open their 2023 training camp on Tuesday, October 10th at 10:00 a.m. The practice will be separated into two groups, with one skating from 10:00-11:15, then the other from 11:40-1:00. Practices on Wednesday, October 11th and Thursday, October 12th will also be split into two groups, but with an added twist - both days will feature a scrimmage from 11:00-11:45. Friday, October 13th will be a quick morning, with the groups taking morning skates from 10:00-10:30 and 10:30-11:00. That night will feature an intrasquad scrimmage, which starts at 7:10. After a light day on Saturday, the first week will conclude with a preseason game against the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday, October 15th at 2:10. All practices are open to the public, and fans must stay in the seating bowl, as ice level access is not permitted. The intrasquad scrimmage and preseason game are both free to attend with open seating. Head Coach Derek Army and Assistant Coach Mitch Giguere have compiled a roster of 12 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders for a total of 21 players to begin training camp. Starting in the goal crease, the Nailers begin training camp with two netminders. David Tendeck is entering his fourth pro season, after spending his first three years in the Arizona Coyotes organization. Tendeck went 12-12-5 with the Atlanta Gladiators last season, and also earned a victory for the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners. Oskar Autio made his first pro start in last year's season finale, as he made 19 saves on 22 shots for the Nailers in Iowa. Autio played collegiately at Penn State and the University of Vermont. On the blueline, David Drake returns to anchor the defense, after being one of three Wheeling players to play in all 72 games a year ago. Drake is the lone veteran on this year's squad, as he has played in 262 professional games. Louie Roehl and Davis Bunz return for their second pro seasons, and the two had nearly identical numbers in their rookie campaigns. Roehl finished with 24 points in 60 games, while Bunz recorded 23 points in 58 games. Sebastian Dirven is the final returning member of the defense, as he began his pro career with three points in four contests during the spring. There are three newcomers to the defense. Quinn Wichers was acquired by the Nailers in a trade this summer, and he is entering his third pro season. Wichers spent the majority of his first two years playing a shutdown role for the Rapid City Rush, while mixing in AHL stints with Tucson and San Diego. Jeff Solow returns to North America, after playing 18 games with the EIHL's Glasgow Clan last season. Solow has played for Iowa and Worcester in the ECHL. Avery Winslow is set to make his pro debut, after concluding his junior career with the OHL's North Bay Battalion. Winslow is coming off of a deep playoff run, as the Battalion finished with the second best record in the OHL and reached the conference final round. Up front, leading scorer Cédric Desruisseaux returns, after lighting the lamp 30 times, while adding 29 assists, and playing in all 72 games a year ago. Félix Paré is back for his third season in a Wheeling uniform, as he raised his point total last year, despite playing in 14 fewer games due to injury. Speaking of injuries, Matthew Quercia and Shaw Boomhower are looking forward to putting those behind them and finding their magic from the 2021-22 season. Quercia scored the infamous overtime goal in game seven to defeat Fort Wayne, while Boomhower led the team with 127 penalty minutes and chipped into the offense with 13 points. Cam Hausinger begins his third season in Wheeling, after recording 62 points in 87 regular season games, in addition to nine goals in ten playoff contests. Bobby Hampton is also entering his third campaign with the Nailers, as he has 32 points in 93 games over his first two seasons with the club. Wheeling, West Virginia native Peter Laviolette III is back for year number two with his hometown team, as he put up 11 points and 96 penalty minutes. Four players who joined the Nailers at the end of last season have returned for what will officially be their rookie seasons, after getting an initial taste of the pro game. Jarrett Lee wasted little time in making a name for himself, as he notched three points in his pro debut. He finished with eight points in 13 matches. Tanner Laderoute won an NCAA National Championship at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and is looking to bring that winning formula to Wheeling, where he registered seven points in his first 11 pro contests. David Jankowski found the net often in the spring, as he racked up three goals and six points in seven games with the Nailers. Matt Koopman also put his name onto the scoresheet with great frequency, as he snagged seven points in his first 14 games. Additionally, Dominiks Marcinkevics will be making his Wheeling and ECHL debut, but already has a year of pro hockey under his belt, as he totaled 32 points in 53 games last season with the SPHL's Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. 2023 Wheeling Nailers Training Camp Roster#4 D Quinn Wichers#5 D David Drake#6 D Sebastian Dirven#7 D Davis Bunz#8 D Avery Winslow#9 F Tanner Laderoute#10 F David Jankowski#11 F Peter Laviolette III#12 F Jarrett Lee#13 F Matthew Quercia#15 F Bobby Hampton#16 F Cam Hausinger#17 D Dominiks Marcinkevics#18 F Shaw Boomhower#19 F Félix Paré#21 F Cédric Desruisseaux#22 D Jeff Solow#28 D Louie Roehl#31 G Oskar Autio#35 G David Tendeck#36 F Matt Koopman 2023 Wheeling Nailers Training Camp ScheduleTue. You press the Hampton bay ceiling fan remote button, but nothing happens. You try again, and still no response. This is not what you expected when you woke up this morning. Don't worry; you're not alone. Hampton bay ceiling fan remote problems are more common than you might think. They're the number one issue people have with these fans. But don't worry; I'm here to help. I'm going to go over some of the most common Hampton bay ceiling fan remote problems and how to fix them. I'll also provide a few tips on troubleshooting this issue if it's happening to you. So read on, and hopefully, by the end of this article, you'll have your remote working like new. Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Remote Is Not Working Troubleshoot the Fan First, try to troubleshoot the fan. You can fix the issue without needing any help. Ensure the fan is plugged into an outlet, and the light bulbs are properly screwed in. If the fan is still not working, unplug it and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in. If you've tried all these things and the fan isn't working, it might be time to call a technician. Replace Batteries in the Remote If your Hampton bay ceiling fan remote isn't working, you should first replace the batteries. The remote uses two AA batteries located in the battery compartment on the back of the remote. Remove the battery cover and insert new batteries. Match the + and - symbols on the batteries with those on the battery compartment. Replace the battery cover and press down until it snaps into place. Try using the remote again. If it still doesn't work, there may be a problem with the remote or the fan. In this case, you'll need to contact Hampton bay customer service for help. Check the Receiver and Wiring Before you panic and call a technician, there are a few simple things you can do to try and fix the issue. First, check the receiver. Ensure it's properly plugged into an outlet and the light is on. If it's not, try plugging it into a different outlet. If the receiver is plugged in and working, check the wiring. Ensure all the cables are connected securely, and there's no damage to the wiring. If everything looks good, try restarting the fan by turning it off and on again. Ensure Frequency Compatibility If you've tried the above solutions and your Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote still isn't working, there's one more thing you can check: the frequency compatibility between the remote and the fan receiver. The frequency is based on the type of fan receiver your Hampton Bay fan has; most of them have a radio frequency (RF) receiver. To check if this is your issue, look for a small dip switch on either the back of the remote or on the receiver in the fan itself. Depending on your model, you may need to use a screwdriver to open up the cover and expose these switches.  The dip switch will often have 4 or 8 positions, and it should be set to match both the fan receiver and remote. If these are incompatible, your Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote will not work correctly. Program Your Remote Sometimes, all it takes to get your Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote working again is to program it correctly. It's also quite an easy process; follow the steps below:  Step 1: Locate the "Learn" button on your fan. This is usually located on the body of the fan itself. Step 2: Press and hold down the "Learn" button for a few seconds until you hear a beeping sound from the receiver unit that is attached to your fan. Step 3: Now press and release any buttons on your remote that you want to control your fan. You should hear a beep from the receiver unit each time. Step 4: When you're done programming, release the "Learn" button and start using your remote! And once you're done with that, all that's left is to test if it worked - so go ahead and turn on your fan with your newly programmed remote! Make Adjustments to Your Receiver If your Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote still isn't working, the problem may be with the receiver located in the fan.
Before making any adjustments, however, turn off the electricity to your fan to protect yourself from electric shock. Then remove the fan blades and check that all wires are connected properly. You can adjust the receiver if everything looks alright on the wiring front. The receiver is likely connected to a capacitor and has three or five wires that need to be adjusted for your remote to work correctly. Be sure to follow any instructions with your Hampton Bay ceiling fan before making adjustments. Finally, contact Hampton Bay customer service if you still need help getting your remote working. They should be able to provide additional help and troubleshooting tips specific to your fan model. Conclusion If your Hampton bay ceiling fan remote is not working, there are a few troubleshooting tips you can try. First, ensure the ceiling fan is turned on, and the light is off. If the fan is on, but the light is not turning off when you use the remote, the remote may have a problem. Try replacing the batteries in the remote, and if that does not work, try resetting the remote by simultaneously holding down the "light" and "fan" buttons. If that does not work, you may need to contact Hampton bay customer service for assistance.
