Dracula's actions today were interesting. His attack on Jonathan definitely was not what he intended on going in to his room. I think he wanted to make him jump, yeah, to spook him a little. He wanted to touch him more, continue being creepy in that way also. But I think he intended to spend more time in his company, continue to play the social manipulation game. I wonder if he wanted to be around when Jonathan discovered the locked doors... watching him panic at the realization that he's a prisoner but be forced to try and hide it because Dracula is right there would be absolutely the sort of thing he'd love. (I just can't picture why Jonathan would be trying different doors with Dracula right there. Maybe if he was 'working' in the library and encouraged him to walk around/explore as Dracula was too busy to be good company, then snuck up on him again as he's in the middle of learning how many/which doors are locked? But I dunno.)
Regardless, either Dracula's very thirsty or Jonathan looks very tasty (I suspect both) because he lost all control the second he saw his blood:
When the Count saw my face, his eyes blazed with a sort of demoniac fury, and he suddenly made a grab at my throat. I drew away, and his hand touched the string of beads which held the crucifix. It made an instant change in him, for the fury passed so quickly that I could hardly believe that it was ever there.
I don't even think this means Dracula didn't know about the crucifix. Probably not before now (and probably Jonathan just made some general statement about receiving gifts from the local people rather than naming the innkeeper lady), but not necessarily. After all, if Jonathan was still shaving he probably wasn't fully dressed yet, and anything worn about his neck should probably have been at least somewhat visible. I think Dracula just got tunnel vision at the sight of blood, and that could go whether he knew the crucifix was there or not. The instant he touches it though, he comes back to himself, and puts on the friendly host mask again.
His first instinct is to get rid of the evidence, and he does so in a way that once again is subtly insulting to Jonathan (implying he's vain here, before implying he was stupid) as well as some larger group of other people (men in general here, before it was 'peasants'). But it's also really over the top and I think despite the jolt of the crucifix, he's really struggling to maintain his control over himself. Hence flinging the mirror out the freaking window and then fleeing. Not just the room, either - the entire castle. This becomes apparent when he returns some time later through the front door: "I heard the great door below shut, and knew that the Count had returned." I really wonder where he went, what he did while gone, and exactly how long he was gone... Even after his return, he keeps his distance from Jonathan initially. Jonathan has to seek him out, or maybe waits until mealtime to talk to him.
The goitre in the surrounding area implies Dracula has been feeding, but everything about his actions today really suggests he has been starving himself recently. Based on other stuff in the book, I don't think it can be possible that vampires always lose control of themself so much around the sight of blood. Also, his face immediately becoming angry... maybe part of that is just his hunting expression, but I wonder if a part of it is Dracula's frustration that once again things aren't going to plan with Jonathan. I wouldn't be surprised if he felt angry at him (how dare he bleed at me and ruin my suave game?!) and a little part of the way he throws the mirror away so violently is to punish him for being so 'provoking' or whatever.

Y/N hated being single. She hated not having anyone waiting for her with dinner cooked and a glass of wine when she got home from work. She hated how empty her bed felt and not having anyone to cuddle after a tough week. She hated no one being there to listen to her ranting about her day. Y/N absolutely missed being in a relationship and being able to go through life with someone else by her side.
Y/N’s last relationship was 8 months ago, she had been with her ex Matthew for 6 months when it came crashing down. Y/N remembers the night she met Matthew vividly. Her friends had dragged her to some concert at this random underground bar. Y/N was at the bar ordering drinks when a breathtakingly handsome man with blond shaggy hair and piercing blue eyes offered to pay for the 3 beers she was ordering. Normally, Y/N would roll her eyes and not bother talking to random drunk men, especially when it was a girl’s night out like tonight. But something about Matthew caught her attention and she couldn’t walk away even if she wanted to. Matthew had this aura about him, he was very charismatic and could captivate anyone with his looks alone leaving those around him putty in his hands. Which is exactly what happened to Y/N.
Matthew and Y/N started dating shortly after that and she was completely smitten with the man. He seems to be just what Y/N needed. To Y/N he was the perfect boyfriend, he held all the traits she looked for in a partner, kind, funny, smart, supportive, everything except the trait which would be argued to be the most important – loyal. 6 months into their seemingly flawless relationship Y/N found Matthew-her supposedly perfect boyfriend, in bed with another girl.
The second Y/N saw the two of them in a rather compromising position in Matthew’s bed, Y/N felt her world collapse around her, her throat closed over making it hard to breath and her vision blurred. The events that followed are hazy in Y/N’s mind, she remembers screaming and yelling, she knows there had been a lot of tears (mostly from her), Matthew trying to beg for forgiveness, which is very hard to do when you’re butt naked and there potentially was a few items thrown in Matthews direction, deservingly so.
That night broke Y/N, it felt like Matthew had reached into her chest and yanked out her heart and crushed it to dust then spat on it. Apparently, douchebag Matthew and this girl had been shagging for basically the whole of his and Y/N’s relationship. She couldn’t believe it.
Y/N’s friends had spent most of the weeks that followed in the heartbroken girl’s apartment as she cried, screamed, yelled. It pained them to see their best friend so distraught. But surely, over time and with lots of ice cream and alcohol, Y/N was able to heal.
8 months later Y/N finally felt mostly whole again, she was able to smile and laugh without a hollow ache pounding in her chest and tears threatening to spill from her eyes. She no longer dreamt of Matthew’s arm wrapping around her and pulling her into his chest when she dozed off, she forgot how it felt to kiss him and she stopped wanting to call him.
Y/N finally felt free, which she told Alicia and Angelina at their weekly girl’s night in. This led to Alicia trying to convince her to maybe start dating again, to test the waters as she put it.
“Okay, hear me out,” Alicia says waving her arms, somehow managing not to slip her wine on the couch, “I think Y/N should download tinder.”
Y/N scoffs and opens her mouth to disagree, but her words went unheard as Angelina squealed in excitement, “oh my god yes! Y/N you so should.”
Y/N shakes her head before sipping on her wine, enjoying the sweet taste on her lips. “Guys, I don’t think I’m ready to start dating, I definitely don’t think I’m ready for another relationship.”
“But that’s why tinder is so great, you don’t have to go on any dates if you don’t want to. You can just chat to some cute boys and see what happens.” Alicia replies, picking up Y/N’s phone from the coffee table and holds it out for her to unlock.
Y/N thinks for a moment, eyeing her phone, she doesn’t feel ready to jump into the dating scene still nervous about being let down again but there’s no harm in downloading tinder and seeing her options, right?
Y/N eyes are locked on her phone Alicia’s hand before muttering fine and unlocking it for her. Angelina giggled excitedly, moving closer to Alicia’s side to look at the phone. A few moments later the app was downloaded, and a profile was made. The 3 girls took turns swiping through profiles ogling the eye candy.
The phone was currently in Angelina’s hand while Alicia refilled everyone’s glasses, Y/N had lost count of how many glasses of wine she’s had tonight, her body buzzing from the alcohol. “Man, I forgot how much fun tinder is.” Angelina slurred, her thumb rapidly swiping through profiles.
“Okay Ang, we won’t tell Fred that you said that.” Y/N chuckles, Angelina just rolls her eyes.
“Oh, come off it.”
~ ~ ~
The next morning the 3 very hungover girls who had passed out in different spots of Y/N’s living room, somehow manage to drag themselves to brunch with Lee, Fred and George.
“Hello ladies, big night?” Fred winks then plants a sloppy kiss on Angelina’s cheek who mumbles a response that sound vaguely like a yes.
The 6 of them were sitting at a table outside, soaking up the sunshine and warm weather. Once their food is delivered the group is chatting aimlessly with one another. Y/N hears her phone ping from her bag, and she fishes it out to check the notification.
“Ohh, Y/N is it a tinder message?” Alicia says excitedly trying to peer over her shoulder.
“Tinder?” It’s George’s voice now. Y/N glances up at him from across the table, unable to read his expression, “since when does Y/N have tinder?”
“Since last night, the girls convinced me to download it. Kinda seems like time to start getting out there again.” Y/N replies shoving her phone back into her bag before one of her friends has the chance to snatch it from her even though the text was just from her mother.
“Maybe you should download tinder Georgie. ‘Bout time you got yourself a girlfriend.” Lee mumbles, his mouth full of food.
George shakes his head, looking down at his plate, “tinder isn’t for me. Besides your one to talk Lee, you’re single too.”
“Not anymore, I want to marry this eggs benedict.” Lee practically moans as he shovels another bite into his mouth.
Y/N laughs along with everyone, shaking her head slightly.
“I think you should George, I’d bet money that your dream girl is on there.” Fred smirks at George whose eyes widen at the comment and his cheeks heat up.
“Can we change the subject,” the redhead mutters scratching his neck, not meeting anyone’s gazes.
The conversation quickly moves on and Y/N finds herself still staring at George confused by his strange behaviour, also noticing the way her chest feels heavy at the mention of George’s ‘dream girl’. She pushes the feeling down and tears her eyes away from the redhead in front of her just before he glances up at her. The pair oblivious to the others intense gaze.
~ ~ ~
That night Y/N is snuggled up under her favourite fluffy blanket, on the couch, while some random romantic comedy is playing in the background.
Y/N has soon come to realise that tinder is addictive, she’s spent the better part of the last hour swiping through the many profiles. It doesn’t feel like she even has control of her fingers at this point, they apparently have a mind of their own.
Y/N starts to zone out, her finger automatically swiping for her. That is, until she stumbles across a particular profile and her finger freezes and her eyes bulge out of her head. Is that? George?
Y/N looks through his profile, there’s a picture that she had taken of him at the beach one summer, he’s lying on a towel, shirtless and the cheekiest grin plastered across his face. The next photo is of him and Ron from Harry’s surprise birthday Ginny threw last year. They are both looking smart in their suits, beaming brightly at the camera. Y/N can’t help but stare at George’s hand that’s wrapped tightly around a beer bottle, her mouth going dry as she zooms in on his veiny hand. There is also a photo of George from last Halloween where he had dressed as a pirate, Y/N chuckles, remembering how George had followed her around for most of the night, annoying her with his lame and corny pirate jokes. The last photo is her favourite out of them all. It’s of her and George at her recent birthday, he has his arm wrapped around her shoulder and his head resting against hers. The pair of them smiling widely at the camera.
Y/N bites her lip trying to decide if she should swipe left or right. She’s always had a soft spot for George long before she started dating Matthew. She knew deep down she harboured a tiny crush on her friend but never acted on it, scared she’ll ruin their friendship if she confessed her feelings. Y/N always fantasised about what it would be like to date George Weasley. She would happily bet her life savings that George would be the perfect boyfriend, would treat his girlfriend with respect and shower them with love and affection. It’s the type of relationship Y/N yearned for, the type of relationship she thought she had with Matthew.
Y/N stared down at the phone in her hand, contemplating her next move. The temptation to swipe right was huge, finally being able to find out if George liked her but there was the possibility that if she does swipe right she’ll find out that George does not like her in that way and she doesn’t know if she could physically take that knowledge right now. Part of her debates on swiping left, thinking that way she can live her life blissfully unaware to whether or not George likes her. The idea of being unsure of his feelings seems very appealing then definitely knowing he sees her just as a friend. A small voice in her head tells her to just delete the app and pretend this never happened.
Y/N groans at her overthinking.
Just choose Y/N.
“Fuck it,” Y/N mutters squeezing her eyes shut before swiping right.
She keeps her eyes closed for a few minutes, trying not to picture the upsetting scenario where they do not match, and Y/N has to deal with her unrequited feelings towards the boy. She takes a deep breath and slowly opens her eyes trying to focus back on the phone in her shaky hand. It takes a moment to process the words on the screen before Y/N is jumping up from the couch squealing.
It’s a match!
Her happy dance is interrupted when her phone dings, indicating a new message. Y/N swears her heart stops beating and she scrambles onto the couch to grab her phone.
George: Do my eyes deceive me or have I captured the attention of the lovely Y/N?
Y/N snorts at his message, butterflies erupting inside her stomach unable to get over the fact that George Weasley likes her.
Y/N: Consider yourself lucky Georgie, not many are worthy enough of my attention ;)
Y/N: But wait, I thought you didn’t have tinder? You said tinder wasn’t for you
George: I didn’t… well up until 1 hour ago. Fred convinced me to download it so I could try and find your profile. He said I should at least try and confess my feelings…
Y/N: And? What are your feelings?
George: that I am hopelessly in love with you. Have been since forever but I’ve been too chicken to admit it.
George: I was going to tell you I swear, but then you started dating that tosser Matthew and I lost my chance.
George: After you two broke up, Fred bugged me to say something to you but I knew it wasn’t the right time.
Y/N studies the messages. Long before Matthew was even a thought in her mind, she knew she would leap at the opportunity to date George. But that was before she had her heart shattered into a million of tiny pieces. She told Alicia and Angelina that she wasn’t ready to date, she didn’t think her heart could take it. And if this was any other guy, she would gently let them down. But this wasn’t just any guy, this was George Weasley. The man who never failed to make her smile and laugh till tears was streaming down her face. The man who help pick up the shards of her heart and help mend it back together. The man who would always answer her phone call, no matter the time of night. Y/N knew she’d be stupid to let go of George Weasley.
~ ~ ~
George was a wreck; he was pacing around his living room basically pulling out his hair with how much he’s run his fingers through it. It had been 30 minutes since he messaged Y/N and admitted his feelings, telling her he loves her. And she hasn’t replied!
George knew he shouldn’t have said anything, clearly Y/N was just curious about his profile, just wanting to see if they’d match and she definitely does not love him back let alone like him.
He wanted to throttle Fred for convincing him to make this stupid tinder account and embarrassing him like this, now George has gone and fucked up his friendship with Y/N.
George stops pacing when he hears knocking from his front door. His eyebrows knit in confusion about who would be visiting him at this hour. George chooses to ignore it, deciding he doesn’t want to see anyone right now, all he wants to do is open some vodka and drown his sorrows. He makes it into the kitchen when the knocking starts back up again, this time louder and faster.
“Okay I’m coming!” George shouts annoyed, “Jesus, I swear this better be import-” his words disappear as soon as he opens the door and is faced with Y/N.
“What are you doing here?” Georges words come out short and brunt, but Y/N doesn’t seem to notice.
She is fiddling with her fingers and anxiously chewing on her bottom lip. “I figured this wasn’t really a conversation I wanted to have over tinder.”
Y/N is silent, the words getting stuck halfway up her throat, she doesn’t really trust her voice to be steady enough to talk. So, she decides on another route of communicating her feelings to George.
Slowly she cups Georges faces in her small hands, forcing his eyes to meet hers. George seems frozen still as Y/N softly pulls his face to down towards hers, their lips millimetres from one another. She can feel his shaky breath on her face. It feels like forever before Y/N connects their lips together, George seems to snap out of his trance as his hands wrap tightly around Y/N’s waist, holding her body close. Their lips mould together perfectly and fireworks erupt in Y/N’s belly. She feels alive and her heart is thumping in her chest and all she can think of is George. George is clouding her thoughts and, in this moment, she doesn’t want anything else to ever occupy her brain. Her heart feels warm and whole as if George had kept the final piece of her heart in his possession to keep save until she was ready and willing to give him the whole thing. Y/N doesn’t feel scared anymore of the thought of loving someone again because she knows for certain now that she’s always loved George.
They pull away from the kiss, breathlessly, George rests his forehead against Y/N’s needing to feel close to her still.
A tear slips from Y/N’s eye which George softly kisses away.
“I love you too George. Always”

EPISODE 1: WHEN HOOD NIGGAS GIVE ADVICE FT @xnasir
SPONSORED BY: PRETTYLITTLETHING, TAKIS, AND MY PARENTS :)
Hey everyone this is Hadiyah Hotline, and this is Hadiyah speaking. *chuckles* Ya’ll don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to say that.......
This is the first, premiere episode of Hadiyah Hotline, sponsored by a whole bunch of people that I'll mention during our break, but to bring in this new era of your favorite podcast, I have here the newest and cutest rapper on the scene Nasir! *laughing lightly* How you doing on this fine afternoon?
Nasir : *chuckles* a bit into the mic after hearing her intro. Yo, yo..wassup? I'm doing good. Mad tired from being up all night. How are you doing though?
Hadiyah: I'm just super excited that my podcast is finally here and I get to share it with someone on their own personal grind too. Now if my research does me well, you're from New York but now you here in LA. What's the reason for the move?
Nasir:*nods briefly* Harlem to be exact. I moved here cause I just wanted to. It's simple. I got mad recognition in NY, so I wanted that same shit in LA.
Hadiyah: You took the East Coast by storm and you wanted to bless the west with your talent. I see you. *chuckles* How old are you? Not gonna be like you old as shit or whatever. -chuckles, and stops short when her phone rings with an old styled phone ring- That sounds like the hotline has rung. -picks up her phone reading over the question- Who ever sent this in wants to get to the point. -chuckles, licking over her lips- Nasir someone asks, what makes men cheat?
Nasir : I'm 24. I'm somewhere in the middle. I'm turning 25 next year though. hears the phone ring and glances up at her. Damn, we getting straight into it. chuckles I'ma keep it real. I guess when you feel comfortable with your girl and you know she wouldn't ever find out, you start to cheat. Most niggas don't cheat emotionally so they would basically have sex with different women without that connection. It rarely has anything to do with being beautiful cause a nigga will cheat on the finest woman alive if he knows he wouldn't get caught. It's better to leave the relationship if you ain't being loyal. I had to learn it the hard way. It's never about spicing shit up in the bedroom though. It's about not being able to say no to other thirsty ass females. I had a hard time saying no, but I was a lil nigga when I was into doing all that. I got older and realized it ain't worth it. Niggas love sex and if your girl got the best pussy out here, you gone be wondering who else got good pussy too. chuckles Sorry for my language.. I think it's a phase and eventually you gone grow out of it.
Hadiyah So it's a self control thing in your opinion. -nods her head- Don't worry about language, the hotline is all about transparency. So have any of your past ex's cheated on you? Cause I know guys make that mental switch of acting right after getting hurt.
Nasir Exactly, but after a while you grow up and realize that there's no point. shakes his head Nah, none of them. It's easy to find out if your girl cheating. I got threatened with it a lot but I knew it would never happen. No cocky shit.
Hadiyah That sounds like cocky shit. -laughs, reading over the next questions she receives- I feel like it's not always about sex when girls cheat. It's more so the emotional side. Like if you not treating me right another person will and he'll give me good dick. -chuckles- Alright another question is, ass or titties and why?
Nasir *chuckles* I ain't cocky at all. I ain't really into all that when I'm interested in a girl. It's a good addition to whatever you got going on, but I'm more focused on personality, goals, ambition..shit like that.
Hadiyah Ooo we got an internal guy.-chuckles as he phone rings more- Damn, these questions coming in fast. Alright some of these we both can answer. 'Do men trip if a female has a body count higher than theirs? Why?' -looks at Nasir- You can answer first.
Nasir I'm speaking all facts, babygirl. Little niggas trip over that shit nowadays. Grown men don't care. I ain't gone lie, I  cared about it a lot and I remember ranting about it on Twitter but I grew out of it cause it's mad childish. As long as you ain't been around the whole city and then some, I could care less. What you think?
Hadiyah Same honestly. If you're out of college and living life you're gonna have bodies. If your man gotta ask you about how many niggas you been with he's a lame. BUT, big but. if you been with one or two of his homies in his past, that's something you tell him as soon as you know that's his friend. -nods her head scrolling further- What makes a woman worthy to be a wife? That's all you Nas.
Nasir I agree with that statement. *chuckles* Be a queen and you'll be viewed as such. You also gotta have your own goals, real shit. I'm living my dream and the last thing I need is a girl tryna bring me down. You gotta lift ya man up and be supportive. Be upfront about anything cause communication is key. I'm not into chasing you around just to find out why you upset, you gotta be vocal about your problem. A wife gone keep it real with you, regardless. But what really makes a women worthy to be a wife is when they love you unconditionally. They meet you halfway. They know your flaws and help build you up. They gotta secure the bag. chuckles Make a house into a home.
Hadiyah -nods her head and chuckles with him- Yo what does that even mean? Secure the bag. I been hearing that everywhere and I swear I be out the loop with that saying.
Nasir It's a whole lot of definitions for that shit but means maintaining success. In that context, she ain't getting in the way of the money I'm making cause she's secure in her job and got her own. Securing the bag.
Hadiyah So the bag is money or the girl? Okay okay, lemme not confuse myself. -laughs- Finally a question for me, 'I'm a Leo woman pursuing a Taurus man, What's my luck like?' Alright well it depends on if you're willing to be submissive for once. Both signs are used to being in charged and a Taurus man might not care too much when you start beg for attention and want the praise that Leo are used to. The sex will be bomb as fuck as long as you care about what the other person likes, but that is honestly all I see for a Leo/Taurus couple. Communication got be off cause Leos don't care if it's not about them and Taurus just don't really care unless it's securing the bag. If you can work past being queen of shit for your man it could work. -looks at Nasir- you believe in astrology?
Nasir The bag is money. shrugs I never read into that shit. So I guess my answer is a no. Can you guess my sign though?
Hadiyah I swear people love asking me that. -chuckles looking him over- You seem super low key, but intense bout everything you are involved with. Also very petty when you mad. Uhhhh I wanna say Libra or Scorpio.
Nasir You've seen me get mad? But damn, I'm a scorpio. How you know? You be stalkin my shit? ..I'm playing. chuckles
Hadiyah Nah it's just a vibe that I get from you. But hear that ya'll I'm getting better and better at this stuff. -chuckles- Scorpio men are super intense, either they all in or they don't give a fuck about you. -shrugs- 'When did you know what you wanted to be in life?' and 'How do you balance your career and family?'
Nasir For a long time I ain't know what I wanted to be. I never continued school after high school so I figured I'd be pushing drugs for the rest of the my life. That's when I got into music producing. It was something I was good at and I wanted to make something of myself. I got into rapping a bit later, when I turned 21. As for balancing my career and family, I know that no matter what my family comes first so I'll always put them first. If I'm ever in the studio or anything and I get the facetime call or voice call from my daughter saying that she's missing me, I'd be out that bitch in 2.5. Doing 80 all in a 40 lane. laughs Nah.. but it's hard, it ain't impossible though.
Hadiyah Aw that's super cute. For me, I went through undergrad and graduate school and I told myself my parents don't have loans out the ass for no reason. I started doing radio in college and it kinda stuck with me. I don't have a child or anything so it's nothing like Nas, but I always make time to face time my parents or chat with my little sister to give them advice on a teacher I had or their boy issues. So it's not that hard for me. -chuckles- Do you think becoming a father has changed you? Like looking back on all the shit you did to women, now having a little girl, does it make you think differently about future relationships and all that?
Nasir chuckles It changed the fuck out of me, in a good way. I wanted to be a better man for my daughter and my girlfriend. We been through mad shit, so after we had her. I stopped bullshitting in every aspect of my life. I started grinding even harder than before. I started being more careful. I wanted to make as much money as I could so my family would never have to struggle like I did growing up. I changed my perspective on life in general cause I wanted to make sure she had the best life possible. It made me act differently toward my girlfriend because I finally realized that I can't be fucking around anymore. Life hit me hard and I wanted nothing more than to be a man for the both of them. I remember my ma told me something about how I gotta grow up to be the man my daughter would wanna marry, and it stuck with me.
Hadiyah Damn there's a girlfriend in the picture. -laughs- kidding. kidding. chuckles more- But that's super dope. I love hearing when men go through this change of life and realize that life if way more than fucking, and clout. Last question to ring the hotline is, 'Nasir, how's the studio?'
Nasir chuckles Yeah, there's a girlfriend. I know she'll be listening to see if I'll say some slick shit. The studio is going up. We reporting live right now. I'll be dropping some new music soon enough, so look out for it.
Hadiyah Heard you. Anything else you wanna say before we hang up on everyone?
Nasir Nah, I think that's it. Go follow me on twitter, instagram, and snapchat at xnasir. I don't got a facebook or any other social media besides that. New music dropping soon. A quick shoutout to my daughter, Brinley. Daddy loves you. I also wanna shout my girlfriend out. I know your crazy ass is listening and I love you too.
Hadiyah You heard it here. New music coming, follow him on social media, and two girls got his eyes now ladies so stiff arm. -chuckles- Thanks for tuning in everyone. This is Hadiyah Hotline, make sure to tune in next week for another episode. -plays a dial tone audio from her phone, before ending the recording-

sexual desire exists inside everyone mature enough to feel it.
but it is still sinful behavior to have sex with someone outside the marital bond. and our Creator formed the way a man’s body becomes as “One” body with a woman’s as a consummation of such a sacred and lifelong bond. but not all regard it as such, and many have broken its covenant.
but even so, the True nature of Love is pure and eternal. it never ends...
Today’s reading from Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) illuminates this:
Her: Restless night after night in my bed,
I longed and looked for my soul’s true love;
I searched for him,
but I could not find him.
I will get up now and search the city,
wander up and down streets and plazas;
I will look for my soul’s true love.
I searched for him, but I could not find him.
The watchmen found me as they kept watch on the silent city.
“Have you seen my soul’s true love?” I asked.
Not long after I left them,
I found him—I found my soul’s true love.
I pulled him to me and would not let him go
until I brought him to my mother’s house,
to the very room where she conceived me.
(to the young women of Jerusalem) Heed my warning:
By the gazelles and deer of the field,
I charge you not to excite your love until it is ready.
Don’t stir a fire in your heart too soon, until it is ready to be satisfied.
Young Women of Jerusalem: Who is this coming up from the desert,
with billowing clouds of dust and smoke,
with a sweet aroma of burning myrrh and frankincense,
with fragrant spices fresh from the merchant?
Look, it is Solomon’s litter,
surrounded by 60 strong men,
some of the very best soldiers in Israel,
All armed swordsmen,
battle-hardened heroes, experts at war,
Marching with swords at their sides,
ready to guard the king from the terrors of the night.
King Solomon built his own royal carriage
from the trees of Lebanon.
He had its posts fashioned from silver,
its back made of gold,
its seat covered with royal purple,
its interior decorated with love by the young women of Jerusalem.
O go out, young women of Zion,
and see King Solomon
Wearing the crown with which his mother has crowned him on his wedding day,
on the day his heart overflows with joy.
The Song of Solomon, Chapter 3 (The Voice)
to be accompanied by this line that points to the inner room of the heart:
Just as I moved past them, I encountered him.
I found the one I adore!
I caught him and fastened myself to him,
refusing to be feeble in my heart again.
Now I’ll bring him back to the temple within
where I was given new birth—

The Song of Solomon, Chapter 3:4 (The Passion Translation)
Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 4th chapter of the book of Acts where Peter and John were arrested for sharing the spiritual truth of the Son of which they kept on doing even though they were told not to by men:
The teaching and preaching of Peter and John angered the priests, the captain of the temple police, and representatives of the Jewish sect of the Sadducees. They were furious that the people were being taught that in Jesus there is a resurrection from the dead. So while Peter and John were still speaking, the Jewish authorities came to the temple courts to oppose them. They had them arrested, and since it was already evening they kept them in custody until the next day. Yet there were many in the crowd who believed the message, bringing the total number of men who believed to nearly five thousand!
The next day many Jewish leaders, religious scholars, and elders of the people convened a meeting in Jerusalem. Annas the high priest was there with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and others who were members of the high priest’s family. They made Peter and John stand in front of the council as they questioned them, saying, “Tell us, by what power and authority have you done these things?”
Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, answered, “Respected elders and leaders of the people, listen. Are we being put on trial today for doing an act of kindness by healing a frail, crippled man? Well then, you and everyone else in Israel should know that it is by the power of the name of Jesus that the crippled man stands here today completely healed! You crucified Jesus Christ of Nazareth, but God raised him from the dead. This Jesus is ‘the stone that you, the builders, have rejected, and now he has become the cornerstone!’ There is no one else who has the power to save us, for there is only one name to whom God has given authority by which we must experience salvation: the name of Jesus.”
The council members were astonished as they witnessed the bold courage of Peter and John, especially when they discovered that they were just ordinary men who had never had religious training. Then they began to understand the effect Jesus had on them simply by spending time with him. Standing there with them was the healed man, and there was nothing further they could say.
So they ordered them to leave the room while they discussed the matter. Among themselves, they said, “What should we do with these men? Everyone in Jerusalem can clearly see that they’ve performed a notable sign and wonder—we can’t deny that. But to keep this propaganda from spreading any further among the people, let’s threaten them severely and warn them to never speak to anyone in this name again.”
So they had them brought back in before the council, and they commanded them to never teach the people or speak again using the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “You can judge for yourselves—is it better to listen to you or to God? It’s impossible for us to stop speaking about all the things we’ve seen and heard!”
Since the members of the council couldn’t come up with a crime they could punish them for, they threatened them once more and let them go. All the people praised God, thrilled over the miraculous healing of the crippled man. And the man who received this miracle sign of healing was over forty years old.
As soon as they were released from custody, Peter and John went to the other believers and explained all that had happened with the high priest and the elders. When the believers heard their report, they raised their voices in unity and prayed, “Lord Yahweh, you are the Lord of all! You created the universe—the earth, the sky, the sea, and everything that is in them. And you spoke by the Holy Spirit through your servant David, our forefather, saying:
‘How dare the nations plan a rebellion,
ranting and raging against the Lord Most High?
Their foolish plots are futile!
Look at how the kings of the earth take their stand,
with the rulers scheming and conspiring together
against God and his anointed Messiah!’
“In fact, Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with Jews and non-Jews, met together to take their stand against your holy servant, Jesus the Messiah. They did to him all that your purpose and will had determined, according to the destiny you had marked out for him. So now, Lord, listen to their threats to harm us. Empower us, as your servants, to speak the word of God freely and courageously. Stretch out your hand of power through us to heal, and to move in signs and wonders by the name of your holy Son, Jesus!”
As they prayed the earth shook beneath them, causing the building they were in to tremble. Each one of them was filled with the Holy Spirit, and they proclaimed the word of God with unrestrained boldness.
All the believers were one in mind and heart. Selfishness was not a part of their community, for they shared everything they had with one another. The apostles gave powerful testimonies about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great measures of grace rested upon them all. Some who owned houses or land sold them and brought the proceeds before the apostles to distribute to those without. Not a single person among them was needy.
For example, there was a Levite from Cyprus named Joseph, who sold his farmland and placed the proceeds at the feet of the apostles. They nicknamed him Barnabas (or “Encourager”).
The Book of Acts, Chapter 4 (The Passion Translation)
A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures for Thursday, june 3 of 2021 with a paired chapter from each Testament of the Bible along with Today’s Proverbs and Psalms
A post by John Parsons that looks at honest prayer:
"My eye grows dim through sorrow; every day I call upon you, O LORD; I spread out my hands to you... Help me, O LORD my God; save me according to your love" (Psalm 88:9; 109:26). Such words pierce through the clichés and chatter about religion, theology, and so on, voicing the lament of a soul in trouble, desperately crying out to God for help... The language of prayer is often quickened by affliction and trouble, for the heart senses it must find God or die. "The troubles of my heart are enlarged..." (Psalm 25:17). "Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed..." for if you will not help, O Lord, then I will perish; I will be consumed in my grief, I will waste away in the void of darkness... "Why is my pain unceasing, my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will you be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail?" (Jer. 15:18). O Lord, "I am poor and needy; my heart is pierced within me" (Psalm 109:22). During hours of pain or mental anguish prayer becomes spontaneous, raw, unscripted and devoid of empty words. Anguish moves us right to the point, bypassing other concerns, distilling the heart's cry for God's help. If you feel overwhelmed, pour out your heart in prayer... It is not the words of the prayer that matter as much as it is the fervor, the intensity of the heart, and the passion that yields itself before God. “Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted” (Matt. 5:4). "The LORD is near to the broken of heart and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18). [Hebrew for Christians]

and another about faith:
"We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Cor. 5:7). This is true for all people, since every soul lives by faith of some kind or another. Our Torah portion this week (Shelach) begins with the episode of the spies and concludes with the warning not to "spy after your heart and after your eyes" (Num. 15:39). The Torah mentions the heart first and then the eyes to indicate that the eyes follow the heart. We see as we believe with our heart: "According to your faith be it done unto you." When the spies said, "We are not able to go up (לא נוּכל לעלות)... for they are stronger than us" (Num. 13:31), they revealed their unwillingness to believe in God’s promise, or, to put it another way, they revealed their faith in God's inability to deliver on his word.... Indeed, the Hebrew word for "than us" (i.e, ממנו) can also mean "than Him," suggesting that the spies believed that even God would be unable to uproot the Canaanites! According to their faith, so it was done; by believing that it was impossible, they lost the possibility of God’s promise...
Faith sees what is possible and refuses to yield to the artificiality of mere appearance. Indeed, appearances are often a test of our courage. We may never know how often a test was given and - just before victory was manifest - the heart grew faint and was lost to fear. "According to your faith" (על פי אמונתך) is a spiritual principle that applies to everyone. In that sense, it is not that we have faith that matters (since we all do), but whether our faith is grounded in the promises and power of the LORD God of Israel, or something else.... The Secret of the Lord
“The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” (Psalm 25:14)
This is an amazing promise. The word for “secret” means the “inner counsel,” evidently of the triune God Himself.
But how can those who fear the Lord really know the secret counsels of the Godhead? The answer can only be by divine revelation to God’s prophets. Thus, the prophet Amos affirms: “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but [unless] he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7).
When these ancient promises were given, however, much of God’s revelation, though already “settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89), was still not revealed to men. Then Christ came and promised His disciples, “The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost...shall teach you all things” (John 14:26).
“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son” (Hebrews 1:1-2). In addition to the 12 disciples, God then also called the apostle Paul, and through these men the Son would convey to those who fear Him all the rest of His revelation. “By revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (...Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit” (Ephesians 3:3-5).
Finally, “the secret of the LORD” was completed in written form by John, the last of the apostles, with nothing else to be either added or deleted (Revelation 22:18-19), that “the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets” (Revelation 10:7). All we shall ever need to know of God’s eternal counsels is now available to all who desire to know, in the Holy Scriptures. HMM
