          /Just a casual reminder that because my demons have an increase in body temperature on account of their fire affinity/pyrokinesis, they’re essentially walking space heaters.           /Crossroads demons in particular have a huge stake in the music industry. Musicians who rose up from nothing and then died mysteriously most likely had help reaching the top of the charts after selling their soul to a crossroads demon. That and the number of hit singles or folk songs that involve selling your soul or having the devil on your heels, from context clues you can guess where they got their inspiration from.

some rolan facts:

Rolan is approximately 1,200 years old, though his exact age is still a matter of speculation as much of his history before turning into a demon is shrouded in mystery. What we do know(?) is that he is predominantly of Russian descent with Old-Norse roots, most likely originating from the flat lands filled with lakes and rivers that lie east of modern-day St. Petersburg.

Like most demons, Rolan is not his true name. He never chose a surname for himself and simply goes by the mononym, Rolan.

His patron animal is a snowy owl, gifting him with the ability of silence and flight.

Rolan was an accomplished crossroads demon for a thousand years - dare say, a master of his craft - and is thus highly revered and respected for his many contributions to Hell’s society as it stands today. Now, he has retired from the front lines and for the last century has started another sprawling enterprise completely from scratch. He began domestically breeding hell hounds in the fourth circle of Greed (his cardinal sin) and has become rather infamous for rearing only the finest and deadliest of guard dogs throughout all of the nine circles. Archimedes, Luna’s pack alpha, was originally one of his brood.

The manner of his death is perhaps the most mysterious aspect of him as a whole. Rolan seemingly doesn’t suffer from a form of divine punishment, leading many to believe that he didn’t die as a result of murder or violent means. Some question whether he died from natural causes due to him appearing as an old man, others believe that he may have been a victim of poisoning, malnourishment or even hypothermia given the harsh winter climate of his native homeland (again, the exact location of which is still heavily debated).

While Rolan is more or less retired, he still bears the title of Overseer as the purveyor of all crossroads demons; this includes Luna and Lucca. He acts more as a mediator between the legion of crossroads demons and the ancient lords interspersed throughout the hierarchy, divvying out territory and assigning missions to those under his wing.

          /In my Hazbin Hotel verse, my demons (i.e. Luna, Lucca and Rolan) are not subservient nor do they owe any sort of allegiance to any of the established overlords that have been introduced to us thus far. Mainly because they are 1.) not beholden to stay within the Pride Ring and 2.) they are all centuries older compared to most of the cast. For example, Luna is over 600+ y/o~ and ironically doesn't spend much of her time in the Pride Ring, so she wouldn't know who the major players are unless she has interacted with them and they have introduced themselves as such. The same goes for both Lucca (600+ y/o~) and Rolan (1200+ y/o~). Take the age gap, their specialized powers, their ability to roam freely and their wealth of experience dealing with all manner of supernatural creatures, etc... and they really don't have much reason to inherently fear the overlords.

          Now while Grear is also relatively older than most of the cast (300+ y/o~), she would still be seen as lower on the totem pole because of her status as an imp.
