The smile that literally makes his heart skip a beat is the same smile that becomes the pinnacle of Inuyasha’s success in overcoming darkness.

When he said he felt relieved to see her smile, he meant it. Little did he know however, the relief he felt at her seeing her smile manifested itself into hope. Hope that she was ok, but it also meant that he was too; in many instances.
