  1. I film e la carriera. La carriera dell’attore inizia nel 1993, quando appare nella serie tv Slaget på tasken, per poi debuttare sul grande schermo l’anno successivo grazie a Il guardiano di notte. In seguito, lavora in Bent (1997), Enigma (2001), Black Hawk Down (2001), Wimbledon (2004), Le crociate – Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Shadow of the Sword – La leggenda del carnefice (2005), Firewall – Accesso negato (2006) e Blackthorn – La vera storia di Butch Cassidy (2011). Tra i suoi ultimi lavori, vi sono La madre (2013), Oblivion (2013), Mille volte Buona notte (2013), Tutte contro lui – The Other Woman (2014), Second Chance (2014), La fratellanza (2017) e Domino (2019). Inoltre, ha lavorato nelle serie Lock, Stock… (2000) e Il trono di Spade (2011-2019).

2. È anche doppiatore, produttore e sceneggiatore. Nel corso della sua carriera, Coster-Waldau non prestato solo la sua opera di attore, ma anche vestito i panni di altre professioni. Infatti, ha partecipato come doppiatore, prestando la propria voce per il videogioco GivingTales (2015), un episodio de I Simpson (2017) e il video Game of Thrones Conquest & Rebellion: An Animated History of the Seven Kingdom (2017). In quanto produttore, invece, ha partecipato alla realizzazione dei corti Autum (2012) e Livsforkortelses Ekspert (2014) e dei lungometraggi Himmerland (2008), Upstart (2014) e 3 ting (2017), mentre come sceneggiatore ha lavorato alla stesura dello script di Vildspor (1998).

3. È sposato da molti anni. L’attore si è sposato nel 1998 con l’attrice e cantante groenlandese Nukaaka, ex miss Groenlandia. I due sono insieme da più di vent’anni e il segreto della loro relazione, come ha ammesso l’attore stesso, è ridere insieme. Inoltre, per lui è stato amore a prima vista, un amore che da quel momento non ha mai cessato di esistere.

4. È padre di due figlie. Dall’unione con sua moglie, Coster-Waldau è diventato padre di due figlie: nell’ottobre del 2000 è nata Filippa, mentre nel novembre del 2003 è nata Safina.

5. È stato nominato agli Emmy. Per il suo ruolo di Jamie Lannister, l’attore ha ricevuto una candidatura agli Emmy Award del 2018, per la categoria del Miglior attore non protagonista in una serie drammatica. Tuttavia, è stato battuto dal suo collega Peter Dinklage che gareggiava sempre per Il trono di spade.

6. Avrebbe voluto avere più incontri. Per quanto riguarda il suo personaggio ne Il trono di spade, l’attore ha dichiarato di essere soddisfatto nel complesso, ma anche di dispiacersi per non aver fatto più cose, soprattutto per maggiori dinamiche che si sarebbero potute verificare con Cersei.

7. È stato il suo primo film americano. Grazie a Black Hawk Down, l’attore ha debuttato nel cinema statunitense, interpretando il sergente capo Gary Gordon.

8. Ha lavorato con colleghi di rilievo. In questo film, diretto da Ridley Scott, l’attore si è trovato a recitare con attori del calibro di Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Jason Isaacs, Tom Hardy e Orlando Bloom.

Obscure NCW stuff

I’m collecting NCW’s filmography so that I can do a chronological bingewatch at some point in time. The list below contains stuff that’s not floating around on the web in decent quality. I’m maintaining this list mostly for my own benefit, but if anyone has additional info, please hmu.

Hamlet (1993, theatre recording, aired on DRTV on 11 Apr. 1993) Streaming on DRTV: 1, 2. Nikolaj plays Laertes.

Slaget på tasken (1993, short, 32 min., aired on DRTV on 18 Oct. 1993) Streaming on DRTV.

Lyse tider (1995, short, aired on DRTV on 2 May 1995 together with three other shorts under the title Fire befrielsesbilleder) Streaming on DRTV, starts at 3:43.

Who’s Hitler? (1995, short, aired on DRTV on 2 May 1995 together with three other shorts under the title Fire befrielsesbilleder) Streaming on DRTV, starts at 1:15:05.

Hemmeligheder (1997, short, 45 min., aired on TV 2 on 3 Nov. 1997) Available at the Danish Film Institute’s archive, but you'll have to visit in person.

Jacobs liste (1997, short, 42 min., aired on TV 2 on 21 Jan. 1997) Available on vhs under the title Kærlighed uden klamydia (Love without chlamydia). This short was part of some kind of sex-ed thing at schools, and it chronicles Jacob’s (NCW) attempts to track down previous sexual partners because he has contracted chlamydia.

Antenneforeningen (1997, short, 53 min.) Available at the Danish Film Institute’s archive, streaming via Danish libraries, streaming for schools with UNI-login, included in this ridiculously expensive collection of Danish shorts.

Misery Harbour / Flugten fra Jante (1999, film, 98 min.) This film has in fact been released on dvd in a ridiculously limited run, which occasionally appears on second-hand marketplaces like finn.no. Some (mainly Danish) libraries have a vhs copy and there’s a book with film stills available in some (again mainly Danish) libraries, titled Misery Harbour: filmen og bøkene om Espen Arnakke.

På fremmed mark / Foreign Lands (2000, film, 100 min.) Only available as a crappy vhs rip dubbed in Russian (smh why); the dvd (titled Foreign Lands) is available on Scandinavian second-hand marketplaces, and it’s also on Amazon Prime (though it might be geoblocked because I couldn’t access it).

Den gode strømer / The Good Cop (2004, film, 86 min.) Only available as a crappy rip with hardcoded Swedish subs and a messed up aspect ratio. This is in fact available in a decent version, which I overlooked the first time around.

Filthy Gorgeous (2006, TV pilot for Showtime) There is a fairly detailed review on IMDB, which appears to list NCW as a prostitute hsahjkf (“A tall, chiseled, Prada-model-thin, uprightly-postured, classically-gorgeous-and-knows-it blonde male” is a dead ringer for our boy 😵). 

De unge år: Erik Nietzsche sægen del 1 / The Early Years: Erik Nietzsche Part 1 (2007, film, 100 min.) This one is available for rent via Amazon, but I’ve yet to encounter a copy without hardcoded subs. It’s also released on dvd though.

Himmerland / Death in Himmerland (2008, film, 85 min.) Only available on dvd, but there's a trailer and a behind the scenes featurette. The Italian release (Death in Himmerland) only features the Italian dub and not the original audio, and the video quality is so horrendous I’m surprised it’s not a bootleg. The Danish release only features subtitles for the English segments, not the Danish.

Chicken/Egg (2016, short, 15 min.) Ran at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2017, and there’s this hilarious trailer.
