PRIMARY IMAGES

For my primary image research, I will create a mind map of ideas of images that I could use that relate to the project overall, this includes taking images of fabrics of garments that is in high street stores today, current trends, and textures within my everyday lifestyle.  After choosing my trend that I will focus on, NatureVerse, I will collect images that I have taken of a variety of landscapes to show my knowledge of how different landscapes inspires designers.  These images will be from previous years of when I went on holiday and traveled to different countries and recent images of my local environment of the daily lifestyle.  These images are to represent the correlation of mother nature and manmade landscapes to garments and how they are both inspired by each other. Each landscape is very different to the next, showing the variation of mother nature, this effects the design of garments because each landscape has a different need of clothing.

To improve further, I think that I need to be more creative with my primary image mood boards because they are very simple with no interesting visuals, this doesn't show my creative side through Photoshop. To achieve these improvements I need to mange my time more effectively using a planner spreading out my daily tasks, this will help me to achieve daily tasks in smaller amounts. I think that I need to research more moodbaords comparing mine to others that have already been made. Furthermore, I need to show the comparison of how my images inspire brands and designers to create garments. This includes silhouettes and fabric samples that relate to my images.

Blog post 1

 The designer/his work.

The unitx project started with us brainstorming together as a group for ideas in a workshop. We used brainstorming techniques by outlining the different aspects that go into making a good and engaging advert/fashion film, this would help us pull out ideas faster in a teamwork environment and also get an idea of which angle individuals were looking at the brief from.

The first steps into my independent unit x research period over Easter were to research the client, William wide and his designs, as I did not manage to attend the first meeting with the client due to me moving unitx groups. I looked up his website, his designs and read about the designer, to get an overall idea about the theme of his designs, the atmosphere I got from it and at the same time referring back to the project brief, this helped me brainstorm ideas and think outside the box by linking it back to the criteria and what the client wanted.

 Cinderella

The brief is based on the famous fairy tale of Cinderella; we were given links and information regarding the topic, the history of the story and the many different adaptations and takes on the fairy tale. I was recommended by my group who updated me on what William wilde said in the first meeting and what he liked about the Cinderella story, for example he mentioned the rags aspect of the story and the ladybird 1964 version of Cinderella, Which why I had a look at the illustrations in the books, At this point in the research stage the group were interested in the illustrations style and fashion in the book too. Some of the ideas that came from the group members was that latex rips quite easily so we thought of a way to incorporate that into the rags idea, this was to add humour as William mentioned that too.

  Video/ films research

I have always been interested in fashion and film making outside of my course, therefore I was excited to work for a fashion designer client. I started researching into fashion films, adverts and commercials in general, to get an idea of what fashion films are constructed, the different styles that companies have previously gone for and what types of techniques we could incorporate into our film. These films were all very different from each other, because I wanted to look at what was out there, what has already been done and take inspiration too, this helped me try and keep the ideas as original as possible as this was a key point the client wanted.

I was mainly looking for live action fashion films, because I am interested in film and wanted to try something new for this project. The films that stood out to me were cut out animations or live action shorts that involved a lot of compositing, bright colours and text, particularly because they were very bright and colourful, yet original and different from other fashion films out there, which is again relevant to the brief.

 60s fashion/Cinderella

During the reserch peoriod, we made a group chat and shared ideas and findings over the easter holiday and any inspiration that we thought were relevent to the project. A popular idea that was shared was to include a 60s themed style, I liked this idea and I instantly started reaserching this and made a moodbaord of 60s style clothing, colours, patterns and art. This process helped me a lot interms of coming up and brainstorming for ideas. These three images stood out to me because of the colours, the stripes on the clothing, which was popular in one of williama’s collections called “Vixen Kill! Kill!”, and the colours from “Go Wilde”.

researching  the 60s style and fashion lead to me remembering paper cut out dress and paper dolls from my childhood and it inspired me along sides the 60s fashion. I thought to recreate a scene from the Cinderella fairy tale replaces with cut-out dresses in a 60s William wilde style, illustrated on top of a live action model who is animated in a pixilated style, whilst retelling the ball invitation scene from the fairy tale, This would give the animation look to the film and keep it somewhat relevant to what we learnt in our animation course.

Mood board /colours /theme    

Upon meeting as a group on the first few days back from Easter, we discussed key things that determined that our video stays consistent all the way through and stays relevant to the theme. We decided on colour pallet and text style together, pulling inspiration from the fashion films and adverts we researched. Bright colours such as yellow, orange, blue and pink were chosen because we felt that they represented the 60s popular style, yet at the same time staying relevant to William’s fashion as he uses many similar colours and pattern such as the stripes.
