hello! I'm interested to join in but I wonder if you're accepting a grey / evil character here ? is there character allowed to have an illegal job? also, is it possible for my character to not own a wand but still able to cast a spell / manipulate elements?

we're very excited to hear about your interest in our roleplay!

we currently have a lot of muses who have dark wizard family backgrounds but many of them don't truly associate themselves with the dark arts. in that case, we'd definitely be open to accept morally grey or evil characters here with us! however, we would like to note that based on the lore of roleplay, even though the island and organization are accepting of witches and wizards from any background, they don't condone the acts of dark arts to be performed on the island. if anyone is caught doing something dubious involving the dark arts, there are extreme penalties for that. this isn't to say our members aren't allowed to write their muses with such topics, we'd just like that things be written in a reasonable fashion to the lore considering there is a strong law enforcement with an auror department located in the capitol of hwando.

as for your muse themself, although they may be morally grey or evil, they wouldn't be allowed to be going around intentionally causing harm to others in a fashion that would make it obvious if that makes sense. however, ic wise, should your writing partners be alright with anything that might put their muse in comprimising or jeopardizing situations that is completely up to you guys!

as for not having a wand, although wandless magic does exist and some cultures have practiced it, this may be one of the restrictions we have that all muses require a wand! for the cultures that have mainly relied on using wands to channel their magic, wandless magic typically works for very highly skilled and talented wizards or witches. this isn't to say that the muses here wouldn't be able to perform such magic as there are some spells that are simple enough to be able cast without a wand if the caster has the skill and talent to manage their magic so.

in this case, you're muse can definitely cast wandless magic, however, we will say that this should be kept within reason of your muse's background and age and how what they choose to do with that ability.

regarding your muse having an illegal job, this is something that may have to be run by the admod team to make sure that it's appropriate for the roleplay's guidelines!

we hope that this answers your questions! we'd like to keep muse creations as open as possible for all members and any potential members considering joining. however, we'd also just like to make sure that aspects of the roleplay's lore are still considered and followed to allow the most for experiencing everything the roleplay has to offer.

hello there! we do have a mwf tag, which i will happily link here. i think a lot of those fcs still apply, but, just in case you are looking for some fresh ideas, i will add a few more! i know these fcs are in the tag, but the admods would be excited to see kim yerim (yeri), lee sungkyung, seo kangjoon, any exo member, and astro’s cha eunwoo and moon bin (give us billlie’s moon sua as well for some sibling love)! i know some members have also requested some loona and seventeen members, so i’ll suggest jeon heejin, lee chan (dino), park chaewon (gowon), jung jinsoul, and boo seungkwan! some of our members have also suggested tbz members, so i’ll say that i’d personally love to see kim younghoon and kim sunwoo! although, any unclaimed faces from any of these groups would be a lovely addition to our roleplay. 

for older fcs (25+), kim ahyoung (yura), bae suzy, kim woobin, choi woosik, im nayeon, ok taecyeon, and oh sehun would be lovely to see!

what kind of characters do u wanna see?

hey there! i believe we have a few asks pertaining to this matter, so i’ll go ahead and link them here (one, two). this response gets kind of lengthy, so i do apologize for that! i’m sure if mod sapphire or admin emerald have anything to add, it will be listed below. and if any of our current members have any ideas as well, we would love to hear it in the replies!

as for a more updated answer for this, i think we would love to see some muses who are considered ‘lawful good’. we definitely want to see more muses who fill up the occupations in the general city (older muses who may fill up some organization spots, alumni of the institute that still live around the island, etc). i’d love to see a group of muses who went to the institute, but since then their friend group has split apart for some reason. it’d be interesting to have a ‘where are they now?’ type of plot amongst these muses (i.e. reply 1997, our beloved summer type plots)! i know a lot of people may be discouraged to join as older muses, as most of the current muses are students in the institute, so i think these kinds of muses may help bridge the gap between the general city and the institute. 

although we have an institute, a common idea that our admod team has been discussing are muses who aren’t a student despite being around the traditional age for students. i believe the general idea for the institute is that it would educate students on more advanced (but general) knowledge on magic that is the international standard; hence, we would love to see muses who stray away from such standards. an example that we would love to see of this is a muse who studies korean shamanism or comes from a lineage of korean shamans. we don’t want to limit this muse to just one ethnicity though! any muse with knowledge of magic coming from their own cultural background would be just as interesting! i also know there are families within the harry potter universe who use their magic as a source of entertainment for the public that also are not traditionally taught such practices. these muses would also be interesting to see at hwando as well!

lastly, i would love to see some connections form with some of our current members (with their permission of course). if any current members have some wanted connections that they would like to fill up, we strongly encourage you to fill out our wanted connections form asap! we would love to see some siblings or relatives around the island.

hello anon! i can’t give you a numerical answer for this, as i don’t want to label any muns or muses without their consent; however, i think it’s safe to say that we have a handful of lgbtq+ muses and are always open to more! our admod team strives to make hwando a safe space for both muns and muses alike, thus, we are strongly against any discrimination based on gender, sexuality, race, etc. i hope this helps!

hello there anon!

currently we do allow squibs! this is actually something that i personally would like to see for muses individually and how it might affect the roleplay's lore development as well!

based on the harry potter lore, because squibs do not have the ability to use magic, they were unable to be sorted into houses ( reference ).

as any society isn't perfect, even amongst the wizarding world there are many issues and stigmas against squibs and i think this would be very interesting to explore within the roleplay! as a place that was made for anyone with the ability to use magic or born from witches and wizards, squibs definitely have a place on the island, although there are definitely difficulties they still fight against to this day.

that being said, squibs will be unable to go through the official sorting ceremony that all students with the ability to use magic go through. however, through the years with evaluation of what the island stood for and represented, headmistress sihyeon implemented an alternative new way that would allow squibs to be sorted into houses should they want to be placed in a representative house. this also allows them the opportunity to claim housing in the dorms on-campus if this was their preference. although innovative — making the institute more inclusive, there are many witches and wizards who ridiculed this new “ceremony” and the public reaction has since highly influenced the number of squibs who have chosen to go through it.

otherwise, an exception is available for all squibs who want to attend the institute. should they wish not to take part in the alternative sorting ceremony, they do not have to and are still allowed to attend the institute as a student with special status. which in this case, they would have to room off-campus in any of the other housing options available with student allocations.

Are Prefect roles a thing? Or a Head position?

hello there anon!

prefect and head roles were something we did originally consider! however, after some heavy thought we ultimately decided that these would not be positions that would be open or exist within the institute.

regarding the lore and the founders, they specifically wouldn't have found such roles as a necessity to the establishment and development of the institute. in schools for young adolescents during their growing years, this seems like a good system especially with young minds that are still learning how to become independent and learning about themselves. having students to act as role models and enforce rules helps in making sure that certain students are kept in check without facing too heavy of a consequence unless needed considering that certain actions could mean losing house points.

however, as a university that continues to foster the growth and development of its maturing students, the founders didn't believe that kind of system was needed for growing young adults, much less, students well into their older years focusing on their studies. in an environment where it can help lead young adolescent minds, it would serve more as a hindrance and restriction to adult students who already have better grasps of their identities and capabilities.

although there are not prefect or head roles, there are resident advisors ( RA ) roles present for muses to take on listed on the dorms page here. these are not to be considered the equivalent of what a prefect or head role would be. resident advisors are what they typically are in any university setting, making sure that students maintain the rules that are instated for living in campus dorms, being decent residents, and helping with any issues that might arise between roommates or living conditions.

hi! is there any local holidays that are unique to hwando, like a founders day kind of thing or anything similar?

hello anon!

there are certainly holidays unique to hwando! however a holiday such as a founder’s day for the day that the island was established isn’t technically one that the locals celebrate. 

this is in consideration that, the time and reason of the island’s establishment wasn’t exactly one with great circumstances. the island was founded and started specifically as a safe haven for witches and wizards to hide because of the second wizarding war, so that they could protect as many people as they could. 

as prior students of hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, the founders all escaped from great britain with the intention of finding other ways to combat the war such as mishaps and evils that were happening across the world alongside the dark lord’s return. in hopes of protecting those they loved and as many innocent people as they could, this triggered their return home and helping those along the way as there were designated forces and assigned individuals in great britain to handle the surrounding countries.

with the end of the second wizarding war though, instead of a founder’s day, the locals tend celebrate may 2nd under two separate pretenses. some celebrate the day as the end of the dark lord. others, recognize this as more of a memorial day for all the wizards, witches, creatures and people who fought to keep the safety and balance of both the wizarding world and muggle world. 

as for other local holidays, we have yet to establish any for the roleplay. as we go along and continue building the lore, this is something that we will definitely make clear to our members and the roleplay once there are more local holidays to note.
