alright, well today was pretty good, busy but good. I woke up to my alarm at 9 and got up, got ready, and left at 9:30 to uber to Ulta to get my haircut. I ended up getting there at like 9:56 and the store apparently doesn’t open till 10, so I was awkwardly standing outside for a few minutes until my hair lady actually walked up and I was like “oh hey!” because I made the appointment last night so she didn’t even know I was coming in lol. so we had a good time catching up on everything being that I hadn’t been there since February, so we always have a million things to talk about and they’re always really good conversations. And my hair is back to its preferred length and I’m quite pleased with this. I was considering dyeing it back to brighter red since it looks weird to me now with it being short but not bright red, but figured I’d give it a little more time being that I have that job interview pending, and in a really random twist of events, I actually got an email today from the legal aid org who I’d previously done the interview with for the higher position I wasn’t quite qualified for but had now posted an attorney 1 position for domestic violence involving families and it would’ve been super great and I applied in like April and was sad when I didn’t hear anything back, and was later told they ended up filling the position in house, so I REALLY was not expecting to hear from them, but here was an email from them in my inbox asking if I spoke Spanish, which would be the logical question after reading my cover letter and resume because it was the one job requirement I very intentionally did not address because I do not in fact speak Spanish, but I emailed her back basically saying I took it in high school and was willing to do what it takes to get to fluency ASAP and that I was a fast learner with a great memory, which is really the best answer I got, so we’ll see where that goes I guess, if it’s nothing no harm done. I ended up uber pooling home so I could get some work done before having to take kitty to the vet. Worked for a bit and then got the leash and harness on kitty and got her in the bag, which strangely she didn’t fight all that much, but was of course very mad once she was actually inside of it and would not shut up lol. I was taking public transit because the vet is fairly close and uber doesn’t always allow pets in carriers (it’s up to the driver to make the call so it’s always a gamble) so I grabbed the bag and walked out to where the bus stop was. Now, it was HOT out today, like in the 90s, which is extreme for Chicago, so this is not something anyone is used to. But she was meowing up a storm and just making tons of noise, much to the amusement of the people waiting for the bus with me lol. Once we got on the bus she was kind of in and out of making noise, I was trying to get her to be quiet but I mean she does what she wants lol so that got us some weird looks (just people being like “where the hell did that come from??”) but thankfully we got there pretty quickly. Got off the bus and walked in, they stuck us in a room so I could take her out of the bag since she hated it so much. so I got her out and stuck her on the table, where she stayed at first but then after the aide weighed her on the scale she hopped off and was hiding in the corner underneath the chair I was sitting in, which is what she did last time, but the vet was able to lure her out with treats pretty easily so that was good. I told the vet about what was going on and she did a physical exam, saying her not eating the wet food could be about some mouth pain she might be having from like gingivitis (I guess I gotta feed her more of the teeth cleaning treats) so she gave me some pain meds for that and apparently she had like a zit on her gums that could be causing the issue so they gave me some like medicated wipes for that and want to see her back in three weeks, and we were good to go from there. Getting back into the bag, however, proved to be quite the struggle, because now she knew what was going on and was gonna put up quite the fight, so that took a good deal of effort. And then of course once we got outside the next bus wasn’t coming for another 23 minutes, which is way longer than they’re supposed to run (like 15 minutes at most, usually more like 7-10 during the week) and if it was just me I probably would’ve just gotten an uber but I had kitty with me and didn’t want to chance that. luckily this was a bus stop with a little covered structure with a bench and such so we could sit down and were somewhat shaded, though of course it was still hot AF out which was super uncomfortable. A woman came and sat next to me for a bit, resting on her way to the store lol so we chatted for a bit, apparently having an animal with you will just encourage everyone to talk to you lol. the bus finally came and she was still meowing but I was like come on we’re almost there and we finally made it home. Got to my apartment and let her out, and I noticed she was doing like this panting thing like how a dog would pant and it looked like she was breathing really fast, which kind of scared me, I was like uhh, should I call the vet again?? so I googled it and the first website I clicked on was like “IT’S PROBABLY DEADLY, GET TO YOUR VET ASAP” which made me nervous but perhaps seemed a bit premature, so I clicked on the second one that said it was a common response after strenuous activity or getting too hot and that as long as it stopped relatively quickly they’ll be fine, and it did stop not too long after so that was a relief. I went on my computer for a little bit before leaving for the chiropractor. good session, everything’s been going well there. Came back afterwards and worked for another few hours, I’m now like 630 pages into the 1700 page record (I got through a lot more today because a lot of it was stuff like medical records that you can more scroll through and not have to read every line whereas obviously with testimony and decisions you have to be super precise. Around 9 I stopped working and watched an episode of Jessica Jones, which continues to be good, though this episode definitely stepped up the weird. I very much do not trust this “Erik” fellow and I don’t like what he’s led to so far. but I guess we’ll see how that goes. Once that was over I switched over to the news, which I watched for a bit, and around the time they were going to switch over to the late night shows I turned the tv off to shower and start getting ready for bed, and now I’m here. Don’t have any formal engagements tomorrow but still got a lot to get done, I got to at least go through my clothes enough to pack for the NY trip and I mean I really should just finish all of it while I’m at it, I need to get more work done, I need to call that one person about an intake from last week, I hopefully need to clean some of the very messy kitchen before dumping that all on my roommate when I leave for the weekend, so you know, plenty to get done there. my business cards came in today which look really nice so I’m happy about that. And yeah, that’s about it. It’s now 1:06 am so I should really be getting to bed and so that is what I am going to do now. Goodnight peeps. Stay awesome.

alright, well today was pretty good. after staying up till like, past 3 am last night I didn’t really want to get up at my 11:30 alarm, but I made myself do it anyway. I got pretty much right into interview prep mode, doing my makeup and getting dressed. I was keeping it simple outfit wise because it was hot AF out so I was wearing a short sleeved blazer and a pair of dress pants. Once I was ready I ate a bagel, and then called an uber and was on my way downtown. I ended up talking to my driver about a lot of things going on in the country, he was from Pakistan and was saying America was so much better in terms of human rights and law and order, saying how everything there is corrupt, there’s no protection from the police unless you’re rich and everyone’s trying to take your money for taxes that the government just profits and doesn’t actually provide any services from. and like, I think everything in our country is kind of a shitshow right now so it was definitely a reminder not to take the good things we have for granted, I’m obviously very grateful for our legal system and the way it allows injustices to be challenged. Towards the end he started asking if I had a boyfriend and when I said no he was like “oh why not?” but I just laughed it off really 😂it didn’t seem like he was being creepy about it so I didn’t feel weird. Got dropped off near the building with like 45 minutes to spare, so I went to a coffee shop across the street and got an iced tea because it was the only non-coffee drink they had besides hot chocolate and like I said, super hot out. So I sat there for a while and then ended up using the bathroom from the like healthy food counter service place next door and buying a small pack of cookies from that because people get pissy about using bathrooms downtown if you don’t buy something lol. The building wasn’t actually all the way downtown, but in the peripheral area just north of the loop (it’s bordered by the chicago river to the north, so this was just on the other side of the river) which is actually where my old job was near, but this one was closer to the loop and it made more sense because it’s not a court position so not being so close to court wasn’t a big deal. I got signed in at the front desk and a visitors pass, then went up to the 21st floor and asked for the woman I was told to ask for, and she came out a few minutes later and took me to the woman I was actually interviewing with. I had heard about the position from an email I got from a girl I went to law school with, she was two years ahead of me (so she was a in her last year while I was in my first) and she was justice of PAD while I was on the junior board, and she happened to love me haha so that always helps, she’s very intense but also a lot of fun and she worked there, so I had messaged her earlier about the interview and she was really excited to hear about it. The interview ended up going really well, like a lot better than most interviews I’ve done I think, I feel like I just engaged with the material and the questions really well and was able to communicate my experience in a way that definitely showed it was applicable to the job. The details of it exactly are that it’s a position at a bar association as a military pro bono coordinator, meaning we get sent civil cases from JAGs from service members, and we match them with our network of pro bono lawyers around the country. I actually got really into it and I think it would be a great position, so I’m actually really hoping it works out. It lasted right around an hour, and after I got out I ubered almost all the way home, but instead made my destination the starbucks a few blocks from me because I knew it was farmer’s market day on the street right there, so I got dropped off there and ran to the cheese booth lol. I was worried they only took cash and I didn’t have any but they did take card, so I was able to get some more of their smoked mozzarella that is so fucking amazing, so I was very pleased about that. We have the most hipster farmer’s market I swear, there’s a whole booth dedicated only to fermented soy products 😂so many hipsters. So I walked home from there and went on my computer for a little bit before getting some work done. I wrote up the rest of the statement of facts and tweaked it so it was in good shape, and I’ll start the argument portion tomorrow. I’m feeling pretty good about where I am with this brief. eventually I stopped and just watched tv for a bit, and then started watching the democratic debate but like two minutes in I got reminded as to why I find debates so infuriating to watch when the candidates won’t fucking stop talking even after their time has long passed and the moderator is actively trying to get them to shut up. So I convinced Jess to come get food with me, she was worried it was about to storm but my phone weather app had no rain in the forecast, so we agreed to meet up at the spot and go from there. I was outside for about 30 seconds before realizing that I was in fact very wrong, and it was minutes away from downpouring. By the time I met up with Jess it had just started raining slightly and was thundering like crazy which she hates, so we basically ended up running down the street and into the Mexican restaurant. we were originally gonna do potbelly’s, but the Mexican place is sit down so we’d have more time to wait out the rain there anyway. Like a minute or two after we got inside it started full out downpouring, so we were glad we missed that. I didn’t expect it to last the rest of the night because the rain lately has been coming in super intense but short bursts. but we took our time ordering and eating just to make sure we were good. our waiter was super cute and definitely let Jess order alcohol even though she didn’t have her ID with her lol (she told him that and he was like “oh, well just use hers” pointing to me so I handed her my drivers license and he brought it 😂) I mean it’s pretty obvious she’s not under 21 so it’s not like a big deal. I definitely got full like halfway through because I had had some food at the house before we decided to go out, so I took some of it home with me. It was in fact done raining when we left, so that was good. Went back home and just kinda chilled for a bit before getting in the shower and starting to get ready for bed, and now I’m here. It’s almost 1am and I’m gonna try to be productive tomorrow and not sleep in too late so I definitely need to go to bed now, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Goodnight friends. Hope you had a good day.

alright. so today. it went well overall I guess, I’ll get through it. My alarm went off at 8, I was out the door by 8:30, made it to school by 9:30 (it literally takes exactly an hour to get from my apartment to school, which is convenient for time planning purposes) and dropped my stuff in the PAD office and hung out for a few minutes before heading up to my exit interview at 9:45. Basically the deal is they have to collect info about job plans post-graduation for the ABA before graduation, and then again in 10 months from now. So I said I had nothing permanent lined up at the moment, but had some opportunities that could lead somewhere. I mentioned the tech company and he was like “oh yeah, I’m actually familiar with them” and he said he’s found a lot of public interest students actually go on to work with regulations and they end up really liking it, so I found that encouraging because my greatest worry about that job would be that I’d hate it. And they wanted to make sure we know we could hit them up for help with jobs at any point in the future, so that was nice. I got a little yellow paper slip stating I completed my exit interview so I can pick up my cap and gown next week (nice little incentivizing there on their part) and then I was done. I went back to the PAD office to grab my laptop and headed over to the library to get some printing done. We always got like, $75 dollars or something each semester in printing credit, when it’s like 10 cents a page, and I knew I had a lot of money left so I thought printing this 94 page outline would spend most of it- nope, I still had $190 left in my printing account. Shame I can’t repurpose that money, but oh well. I printed the outline, used the 3 hole punch (they have the super heavy duty one that can do like 50 pages at a time) then headed back to the PAD office, where I spent a while integrating the outline with the case briefs I had already printed out, because the outline was almost entirely case briefs, so I would find where a case was in my case briefs, then put where it was in the outline as the next page. I think it worked pretty well, it made it a little harder to flip through, but it was definitely easier then having to flip back and forth between the two of them. and yeah, I more or less killed time after that until around noon, where I went to the little market place that moved in next door to the school where I’d been getting salads from, but they had Italian food on their hot bar today, and well, needless to say I did not get a salad. Opted instead for cheesy garlic bread (YUM) and stuffed shells. I was a little disappointed in the stuffed shells because the filling was a bit too salty for my taste, but I still definitely enjoyed them. At 1 I headed upstairs to where my final was gonna be held starting at 1:30. People were milling in and out, trying to set things up and such. We can do the tests on our computers, but we have to use this exam software that shuts down every other application on your computer so you can’t leave the actual test. But yeah, we get ready, I’m feeling pretty good, and when the time comes we start. It was all essays, which is like, what I’m best at, so that was good, except I apparently really fucked myself over because I forgot to print out the cases that were posted on the class website and not in the book, and guess what? Literally all of the cases brought up in the test questions were ones from the website. every. single. one. And I was basically like, well fuck, but there’s not much I can do about it now, and I at least still have the case briefs on them, so we’ll work from those. I did almost have a heart attack for like 30 seconds because there were two cases we read that started with the same plaintiff name (and it was like, a long title) and I accidentally was looking at the wrong one first, but then I realized it was the other one and it wasn’t in the book and for a minute I thought I had no case briefs or anything on the case and I was legit going to drop dead on the spot, I was so stressed. I briefly considered just writing a note at the top of my answer like “so I didn’t have any information on this case, so I’m answering the question based on the other case with this plaintiff” because I feel like my prof would be the type to basically be like okay cool and grade it from there, probably with some point penalty, but he wouldn't just write it off completely. But thankfully I was able to find the case briefs on the case and managed to write a semi-decent essay, it was hard because I didn’t have many details to go off of, so that was kind of rough. The second question was somewhat more in my wheelhouse, it didn’t involve a specific case but instead a hypo and what claims could be brought from that, so that was easy for me to analyze and draw a case comparison to. One part was like “list any other alternate claims she might be able to bring” which is of course a big give away that there are other claims, and I picked up that in a “throwaway” line in the prompt it dropped that they received federal funding, which made them liable under Title VI as well as Title VII, so I felt good about spotting that. This was also the question about retaliation, which is what I know really well from real life experiences, so that was definitely my strongest answer. Questions 3 and 4 were shorter, worth half as much as 1 and 2. I didn’t have the cases they were based on, so my answer to question 3 was kinda short but I was able to extrapolate a fairly good answer for question 4. I finished up at 4, so with half an hour left. I started editing, and I knew I wasn’t happy with the case illustration I used for the first question, so I went back and found a more analogous case that I was much more satisfied with. So I checked it over again and then I was done. I was kinda irritated because I knew I could’ve done better had I been fully prepared, but at the same time I knew they were still solid answers, I may just get an A- instead of an A (which will drive me nuts, but it’s not like it really matters at this point). So I turned it in, left the classroom and legit dumped my 150 pages of outline and case briefs in the recycling bin they have in the hallway lol because I had no use for it anymore and didn't want to carry the extra weight home. So I started the trip home. it was raining when I left the loop, but by the time I got off the train it was more of a light drizzle so it was already for my walk the rest of the way home. I stopped at the ice cream shop and got a scoop of cotton candy ice cream (I love that shit) in a sugar cone, then kept heading home. Upon getting home I just dropped everything and laid on my bed for like, 10 minutes, which felt very good lol. I didn't want to do any more studying for the day because I was pretty academically exhausted, so I sat in the living room/den (whatever we’re calling it) and watched more of A Series of Unfortunate Events before Riverdale was on, simply because I really didn’t have anything else to watch, not that I’ve particularly been enjoying it. At 7 I turned on Riverdale, and I really don’t know why I keep watching this dumb show, it’s so overdramatic and ridiculous, and yet it is somehow enjoyable. After that episode I had an hour to kill before Designated Survivor was on, and I had asked for comedy suggestions on twitter, so I turned on The Good Place and watched two episodes of that, which was highly enjoyable. Designated Survivor.....wasn’t my favorite episode. I’m VERY glad my girl Andrea is not the traitor here who’s gonna be brought up on like, international treason charges for obvious reasons because I really thought that that was where they were going with it, but then I was still sad when they basically wrote her off anyway. As far as the main plot, I am so over Michael J Fox and his literally one character he can play, like legit his role on this show is the same. exact. thing. as his role on The Good Wife, and he was annoying AF there and is still annoying AF here. Idk why they feel the need to keep bringing him back. It was nice at least to see him get humbled a bit in the end there though. Then there’s Hannah, my girl!!! What was going on with the ladies tonight, are we losing Andrea and Hannah in the same episode??? Like what the hell is going on with that??? I very much hope that both of them return at some point. After the show I watched the news for a little bit, then started getting ready for bed and now here I am. Tomorrow I have PT at 12:30, then probably studying for either Remedies or attempting to teach myself the entire Secured Transactions curriculum over the next week, which sounds ridiculous for sure but I am fairly confident I can actually do it, did it first year with property and last semester with bus orgs, so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not really concerned. So yeah, we’ll see how that goes. It’s almost 1 am so I guess I should bit you all goodnight for the time being. Goodnight babes. Stay wonderful.
