Surprises (Shawn Mendes Blurb)
Tumblr media
Description: Reader goes out of her way to do something really nice for Shawn’s mom for her bday. Shawn could be away from touring or something. Anyways the bday celebration was a success but Shawn had no idea reader did all that for his mom. He finds out when his mom tells him.
You were throwing Karen a surprise party for her birthday, you and Aaliyah had been planning it yourselves for two weeks now. Only you two and the guest knew about it you didn’t even tell Shawn he had such a big mouth you knew he would tell someone. You were out with Aaliyah one day shopping and she told you that she wanted to give Karen a nice gift and that her mom always wanted a surprise party. You knew they were having a hard time with Shawn being away on tour so you wanted to do something to not only get that off their mind but yours as well.
You and Aaliyah were now at the house getting it together hanging a banner and setting out all the food, Karen and Manuel were out after you and Aaliyah had made sure they had something the do so you could prepare it all. You were so excited and you were honestly itching to tell Shawn but you knew that he wouldn’t want to know anyway because he knew himself he was bad at secrets.
‘’They should be back soon,’’ Aaliyah says walking in the kitchen looking down at her phone, ‘’When is everyone getting here?’’ She asks. Right at that moment the doorbell rings and you look over at her grinning.
‘’Now!’’ You say. You both rush to answer the door, you had invited all of Shawn’s family as well as a few of Karen’s friends that you and Aaliyah hunted down to find. You all worked so hard on this and you were even more excited because you had another special gift to give her. Everyone had piled into the house and they were only a few minutes away, ‘’Everyone down!’’ You say as you hear the car door shut, the lights were on in the house but they knew you were coming to spend some time with Aaliyah so you didn’t bother turning them out.
You hear the door open and shut after a few seconds and everyone was silent in the kitchen standing around all the food and the cake, you hear them talking to each other from the other room. They make their way into the kitchen because you can hear their footsteps coming, they finally make it to the door and everyone yells out, ‘’Surprise!’’ You watch the shock on Karen’s face as she looks around the room and at the banner above everyone saying Happy Birthday. She goes around greeting everyone for a little bit and then she finally makes it to you and Aaliyah.
‘’You two did this?’’ She asks and you can see her eyes glazed over with tears. You both nod your head and she pulls you both into a bone crushing hug. She hugs you both tightly and you wrap your arms around her patting her back, ‘’It was all her idea,’’ You say gesturing to Aaliyah.
‘‘No! I couldn’t have done all this without Y/N,’‘Aaliyah says and you nudge her with your elbow.
‘‘Well thank you both, I’ve always wanted a surprise party!’‘ She says excitedly. She goes around talking to everyone for a bit and we all celebrate. You talk to a few of Shawn’s family members about him and how he was doing, he was on the Europe leg of his tour right now and he would start the American leg in a few months. You watch Karen open a few presents from people after you cut the cake serving everyone and then you decide to give her yours.
You hand over the tiny box to her and she opens it up looking at you confused, she takes out the three pieces of paper and holds them up, ‘’What are these?’’ She asks you.
‘’They’re ticket vouchers for a plane ticket! You can use them whenever you want to go see Shawn all of you! I know that sometimes it’s hard to be away from him so if your just missing him more than usual you can use these to go anywhere in the US when he’s on the American leg.’’ You say smiling. You felt Aaliyah hug you from the side and Karen gets up joining in on the hug.
When she pulls away she says to you, ‘’Thank you, for all of this. I hope you know we all adore you in this family, and it means so much!’’ She says.
‘’Aw!’’ You say leaning in giving her another hug. You all celebrate for a little bit more and then decide to call it a night. You help Aaliyah take everything down and Karen went upstairs to call Shawn.
SHAWN’S POV
I was in my hotel room laying down on the bed, I hadn’t heard from Y/N in a while usually she’d call me by now. My phone started ringing and I pick it up hoping it was Y/N, but instead it was mom. I excitedly pick it up, ‘’Happy Birthday!’’ I yell into the phone.
‘’That’s only the thirtieth time you’ve told me today,’’ She says laughing. ‘’Guess what?’’ She says.
‘‘What?’‘ I ask her. I can hear the furrowing around in the back like she was moving, then my phone begins reading now a facetime call. I answer and finally see her smiling face, ‘’When did you learn to do that?’’ I ask her, I know Aaliyah didn’t teach her.
‘’Oh, Y/N taught me the other day.’’ She says and I smile. I loved how close my family and Y/N were, it just seemed like she was already apart of my family and everyone loved her which was really important to me.
‘‘Oh did she?’‘ I ask teasingly, ‘‘What were you gonna show me?’‘ I ask yawning.
‘‘Oh,’‘ She says and I can see her walk into the other room. She flips the camera around and I squint my eyes trying to see all of what she was showing me, I see Y/N in the background by the sink in the house standing next to Aaliyah. They both turn around and mom begins to say, ‘‘It’s Shawn!’‘ She says.
She flips the camera back around and I see her face come into view and Aaliyah then pops her head in then Y/N. ‘’Hi!’’ I hear both Aaliyah and Y/N say simultaneously.
‘’Did you all have a party or something?’’ I ask laughing. Mom nods her head yes, ‘’Wait really?’’ I ask them.
‘’Y/N and Aaliyah threw me a surprise party!’’ I felt my heart swell with both happiness and sadness, happy that Y/N and Aaliyah did it for her but sad I couldn’t be there. ‘’Y/N also got us tickets to come see you sometimes on tour!’’ My eyes widen and I watch Y/N bite her lips in the background holding back as smile, ‘’Surprise to you too!’’ Mom says and I laugh.
‘‘Why didn’t you tell me Y/N?’‘ I ask her, I knew why she didn’t tell me but I thought she would tell me about the plane tickets. I knew the vouchers weren’t cheap and for my entire family? Wow.
‘‘You suck at keeping secrets,’‘ She says laughing making me laugh. We talk for a few more minutes and then mom says she had to go because her phone was going to die, Later that night I decide to call Y/N.
‘‘Hey,’‘ I say as her face pops up on the screen she was grinning from ear to ear and seemed to be laying down in bed. ‘‘Are you in bed already? It’s only eleven!’‘ I say laughing.
‘‘Yes, yes I am. I’m partied out!’‘ She says pouting.
‘’Thank you for what you did,’’ I say to her, ‘’You’re amazing.’’ I state.
She purses her lips and flips her hair over her shoulder, ‘’I know, I know.’’ She says teasingly. ‘’Just kidding! but really it was nothing’’ She says smiling.
‘‘Nothing?’‘ I ask her confused. ‘‘You planned a surprise party for my mom, something she’s always wanted. To top that you bought her plane tickets to see me.’‘ I say not being able to contain my smile, ‘I mean really your amazing.’‘ I say to her.
‘‘Well, it’s for you and them! Now you can take her out on your own birthday celebration!’‘ She says smiling. I loved her in every way a person could, she was such an amazing person and I knew someday she’d be my wife not now when life was hectic. But when everything calmed down I knew that she would be it for me, just this right here how above and beyond for a family that wasn’t even hers to make me happy showed the person she was. And I couldn’t wait to marry her myself, making her officially apart of my family.

November means it’s time for Eugene’s bday :)
“You’re twenty-eight, Gene,” Bill said as he sat down on the edge of his bed. “Two away from thirty.”
“Knew you weren’t an idiot, Bill,” Eugene said as he started removing the numerous candles from the cupcake and setting them on his bedside table; he’d clean up the mess later. “You know two plus twenty-eight is thirty. Proud of you.”
In response, Bill whacked him upside the head with his other pillow. Setting the cupcake down quickly on the table, Eugene turned and hit Bill in retaliation with his other pillow.
“Alright, alright!” Bill said with a laugh as he dropped the pillow to the ground. “I surrender. Now eat your cupcake.”
Laughing quietly, Eugene reached out for his cupcake and took a bite from the portion he had managed to remove the candles from. It was red velvet, his favorite.
“So, what’s the plan for the day?”
“Uh, gotta go do some work sometime today,” Eugene answered through a mouthful of slightly stale cake.
“Gene, we’re not fucking open today!” Bill reminded him exasperatedly.
“It’ll only be an hour or so. I’ve just got to place some orders so I can start making arrangements for Flo to choose from.”
“Jesus Christ. Do you even know how to take a day off? ‘Specially when it’s your fucking birthday.”
“My birthday’s not a big deal, Bill,” Eugene said as he continued to remove more candles from the cake.
Even when he was young, Eugene really didn’t enjoy it when people made a big deal about his birthday; growing up, his mother always threw the most lavish parties for him every year, despite his wishes. His displeasure for birthday parties only grew with age and experience and now that he was an adult he was able to finally celebrate on his own terms. Sure, he appreciated small gestures, like Bill’s cupcake or a small get-together, but he really didn’t need a party to celebrate.
“Come on, dude. Come out for one drink. You won’t even have to pay for it,” he tried. “Flo and the guys would be down to come out.”
“Okay, if Flo and the guys are involved it’s definitely not gonna be one drunk,” Eugene said flatly. “Pass. Besides, I’m still recovering from Halloween.”
“Old ass man,” he grumbled as he got off of Eugene’s bed and moved to exit the bedroom.
“That I am,” Eugene said happily as he took another bite of his cupcake.
Eugene waited until he ate the rest of his cupcake, not the most nutritional of breakfasts, before he got out of bed. When he eventually made his way into the kitchen he found Bill brewing a fresh pot of coffee, still looking exasperated about Eugene’s chosen birthday plans.
“Don’t give me that look,” Eugene said as he pulled out the last two clean mugs from the cupboard. “You know I never want to do anything for my birthday. What’s there to celebrate? Twenty-eight isn’t exactly a milestone.”
“So what you’re saying is that you would be open to celebrating a milestone birthday?” Bill asked slowly. “Like, say, your thirtieth birthday?”
“I guess,” Eugene conceded, realizing the flaw in his own logic.
“I’m already planning it as we speak,” Bill said, cocky grin spreading across his face as he poured the two of them a cup of coffee.
“Oh, and if you really want to do something for my birthday, please don’t tell the others,” Eugene asked as he opened the fridge to grab the cream; when Bill didn’t respond, Eugene turned around to stare at his friend. “Please. If they find out I won’t hear the end of it.”
“Okay, fine,” Bill conceded. “Happy birthday, I’ll keep your dirty little secret.”
“Thank you, Bill,” he said as Bill exited the kitchen.
“Just so you know, your thirtieth birthday is gonna be one for the books,” Bill called out from the living room.
“Wouldn’t expect anything else.”
