I told my booktube friend I'm reading 1984 and she asked me what I thought of it so far and I was like "it's got good ideas but the writing can be a bit annoying. It's pretty infodumpy" and she was like "Yeah I can see that" and then later in the conversation she mentioned a part that made her so mad and she was curious what I thought. And so I thought oh maybe it's a wild twist? No. I'm pretty sure I got to the part and it's the main character reading a book to another character which he reads verbatim for like a good chunk of the chapter. I was like absolutely fuck off

#like on one hand it def has good commentary but on the other the way its written is literally just a political rant theres not much story it #all just summary of events and worldbuilding #also the main character feels too self aware and like a self insert rather than an actual character #and he so happens to get an attractive young gf who likes him for no other reason besides that hes the main character #seriously when the plot was introduced initially I thought she was luring men in to rat their ass out to big brother #but nah #i wanted to read it bc its a classic but also bc I've been plauing we happy few and the game was inspired by 1984 and brave new world #Ive read brave new world before and the inspiration on the game is clear there but I was confused how 1984 tied in to the game but now that #i'm reading it I can see the inspiration but honestly we happy few tells the story better
