being a FF fan is so fun, this kid let me play a VR battle to fight a Fat Chocobo and i thought it was going to be the laid back battle i could train my skills on, and then while fighting i saw a Tonberry appear and i got fucking scared for my life.

Genuinely ADORING that we keep cutting to him like that, i love that it really shows how invested he is in what his work is SUPPOSED to be (Urban planning, meaning he's officially supposed to help the PEOPLE living in Midgar even though the President doesn't care all that much about it) and that he just can't swallow what Shina is doing.

I also love that they're really hitting on the fact he's a sleep deprived sad man who's probably taking cocktails of anti-depressant and coffee all at once trying to do his goddamn job. It makes the contrast with how the crew will meet him all the more exciting. god.

Aerith's brain going through multiple alarms right here because no way Zack wouldn't have befriended Cloud if he could. Like it just doesn't add up--

i do love that when Barret confronts President Shinra about how Shinra is exploiting the planet to generate electricity and stuff, the President just replies "oh sure you accuse us, but who benefits of it? if you weren't taking advantage of it, we wouldn't be doing it!" and Barret rightfully gets angry because "don't you dare pinning that on us!"

like. it's like Barret and the President recreated the "we should improve society somewhat" "and yet you live in society. curious."

like it's the classic way that the system continue to exist because people cannot live outside of this system, but instead of blaming the system we blame the people who have no other choice but to rely on the system.

And the game irrevocably take Barret's side, as it should

but i also find it even more interesting when you think about the implications of the plate, and actually it's making me forgive the way too long lamp section because it does push its point forward.

Midgar is built on two layers, they put a plate on top of the city, and the rich lives on top of the plate and the poor lives in the under city where they can't see the sky (i do think the remake made the undercity too bright but that's another point all together)

But at least the lamp section showed us that Shinra basically placed huge lamps under the plate so that they would "look like the sun" for the people living in the undercity, and since the whole quest is about disabling the lamps because they took too much power and you need power to access the elevator, it shows exactly that Shinra is creating a demand for something that shouldn't even exist to start with.

like yeah, they need Mako to light up the whole city, and those living in the undercity needs the light produced by Mako energy, because else they'll never see the light of the sun! obviously! As if the fact the undercity cannot see the sun isn't Shinra's fault to start with.

Like in the end with this exploration time, it really gives you an idea of how the energy that's being generated from the planet's abuse is used on things that wouldn't even exist if this exploitation wasn't going on t start with.

I'm forgiving the super long lamp section that made me mad actually i see what the point is and it's brilliant and it works very well at painting Shinra as bad guys in the most accurately capitalistic way while also really showing you how they're full of lies and that Barret is right.

this is so funny if so because??? that'd be the first time he meets her???

like in the OG you learn he has a crush on Tifa when you reach Gongaga, so by then they've fought us a few times, and i was mostly imagining that, as two hand-to-hand fighters it's just that after fighting a few times with her he couldn't help but be charmed (and honestly, who wouldn't), but to see him slip to save her while it's technically the first time he sees her?

the only conclusion i can drive if the idea is to introduce Rude's crush on Tifa is that the Turks probably watched the videos they got from the camera in the places Avalanche has been acting in and Rude started to crush on Tifa seeing how cool she was then.

That, or Rude has the biggest case of love at first sight i've seen in a while.

i do love that we're getting a glimpse of what Reno and Rude thought as they were carrying on this mission.

like, it tracks with their characters that they'd be on the edge of being conflicted, but they've been doing that for so long now that what's the point getting conflicted now.

And i sure love that Reno shared his anguish all while looking easy on the eye.

#ichablogging ffviirg #it does remind me how at the very end of the OG when you go to take down Shinra for good #the Turks will stop you #and if you try to talk to them instead of going into battle #Reno and Rude immediately steps down and tell you to go #(it's Elena who's confused about it) #because ultimately by hunting you guys down for so long they start to think that maybe they don't want to keep doing that anymore #even if it's all they ever know #anyway. very good scene to hint at this future development. #and Reno is being smoking out as always i mean the zoom on his lips???? the zooms on his tits??? #they know what the people want.
