new ship dynamic i'm obsessed with thanks to my beloved @kittenwoogle <3

ill draw like actual ship art soon but ok ok. they can help eachother listen like. (rambling and some , larry spoilers ? i guess below)

it starting out as a , transactional relationship including paid dates bc larry's just lonely. he gives the vibe of divorced.

but anyway. sparing a LOT of details here but as they care about each other more. larry's vague handful of more years of life experience allows him to give some more mature advice and support to grusha and help grusha feel like he doesn't have to give up on life. and while larry isn't particularly direct or compliment heavy exactly, it's obvious he cares a lot for grusha through how he's always offering to buy him food (without expecting anything in return for that mind you), asking ab his injury and making sure he's taking care of himself. and it really helps grusha's self esteem that like. someone cares more ab him now than people ever really did before even if he feel like he's no longer impressive or important. plus in ship context grusha may be feeling insecure ab his body after being someone who goes from extremely active to very & then having someone wildly attracted to him despite that? yea

AND THEN for the other way around. for my hcs larry's so averse to stepping outside his comfort zone and that's why he's ended up how he is. even pursuing a transactional relationship was the more comfortable option than trying to figure out dating again and go through that emotional turmoil. but grusha giving him a chance and seeing him as a kind person despite his standoffishness makes him feel just a little more like he is capable of finding new happiness. and i like to think grusha helps him refind his passion in pokemon battling. he's only felt comfortable with normal types but takes interest in grusha's altaria as it reminds him of his own staraptor. grusha helps teach him how to most properly train and care for flying types and such and eventually he gifts larry a swablu egg. which he dearly cares for and it goes on to join his league team that he decides will be flying types (that his rematch battle makes me optimistic that he's developing a care for!)

also both of them unintentionally help eachother like. not push themselves too hard as gym leaders. larry takes more time off to see grusha & grushas able to let go a little bit of making the gym be his new tether to self esteem since it no longer feels like all he has anymore
