Should Sophie answer honestly? She thought that he was heartless; but was that something she should voice aloud? It seemed like anyway she went she might end up on the wrong side of life and death. Now would be a great time to not be by herself.

"I don't know," it's said with a muster of courage, taking a deep breath to make herself seem bigger, like she had confidence in what she was saying. Being neutural seemed like the best plan in her mind, but she didn't want to seem as weak as she felt in the moment, so fake brava it was. "I mean, you have a reputation of being not so nice. What should I think?"

"I get it," that wasn't a lie, she understood not wanting to be around someone like his mother. Her mother wasn't a picnic to be around either, and though neither of them had gone into detail about why they have this particular issue in common, she knew she could relate.

"I don't wanna pry," she's sitting next to him, picking at the snack mix she got from the vending machine, not really hungry but needing to do something with her hands, "Can I ask what the deal is? I mean, you don't have to tell me any details you don't wanna, because I don't really talk about my mom, but if you wanna get it off your chest I'm good at listening. I'd totally fight her for you, but she could probably turn me into a toad or something."

The kiss wasn't planned; her heart was pounding in her chest, adrenaline pumping like it did every time after a hunt. Sophie glanced over at Gavin, wondering briefly if he was cursed. Maybe she was the one that was cursed; she had vowed to make sure he had a normal day for once, but instead she ended up somehow dragging him into a vampire hunt.

He was okay though, or at least it seemed like he was. Relief flooded her and she had only meant to reach over to give him a once over, just in case. Instead she found her lips meeting his, this kiss brief, a sigh escaping her lips as she pulled away, linger just a little close, just in case.

"I was worried, I thought that mullet wearing asshole of a vamp got you."

Sophie didn't mean to push his buttons like this. She never could keep her mouth shut in an argument, this time being no exception. She huffed a breath out, fist clenched to the point she could feel her fingernails digging into palms.

"I didn't ask you to do any of that," he had a point, and when she was calmer she would realize that, but she was feeling a sort of way. Projection was a hell of thing, wasn't it? The flash of red and heat around her made her pause slightly, but deep down she knew he wouldn't hurt her; not like this anyway.

"You're not a freak, you know I don't think you're a fucking freak. You know I don't think of you as a monster, come on," that made her madder than the perceived lack of caring she felt earlier.

"Whatever. Fuck me for wanting to hear that you care. I mean, I've made it pretty obvious how I feel, I guess it's too much to ask for the same."

It was a good movie; that's why Sophie thought it was one Gavin needed to watch. Sure, maybe The Breakfast Club wasn't something like The Godfather, but it was a classic for a reason, and perfect for what she called 'Operation Normalcy'. It was her way of helping with him getting used to the modern world without involving anything to do with hunting.

The downside to watching a comfort movie though, is that it's comfortable. She wasn't sure how she ended up so close to Gavin on the couch, or just how much of the movie she had missed 'resting her eyes'. She stirred when she felt his lips on her forehead, her eyebrows knitting together but she gave him a sleepy grin. "I'm awake."

"It looks like a toy," Sophie grumbled, pulling her hand back from the object. She was looking at the amulet itself and was about to ask where he got it when Balthazar revealed the name. Of course she'd touch something that probably cursed her, she thought, before glancing back over to him, "Am I going to regret this?"

She turned back to look at it, head tilted as she tried to figure out why anyone would make such a thing, or why he'd want it, "Can I ask what the deal is with it? I mean, why you have it? I don't think I'd want anything that involves unceasing regret."

Sophie couldn't even begin to imagine how many weird days Gavin has had since he got brought to the future. That itself had to have been the weirdest day, but then add in everything else and she could understand how dealing with anything supernatural or, well, even natural could be weird.

"That's it. Starting this very minute, I'm making sure the rest of the day is normal for you. I'll get food, we can go to a park, we can see a movie--whatever you want to do, and I promise it won't involve angels or demons or monsters of any kind."

"I know, I know, but I kind of wish it didn't happen right now," okay, maybe Soph was being a little dramatic, but they had been doing so well; no major injuries, no monsters getting away, hell, they even managed to score some pretty sweet hotel rooms the last couple of stops.

Now they were stuck in the worst motel she's ever seen, they're dealing with what looks like real life zombies, and she's pretty sure that if they don't somehow stop this, they'll be responsible for ending the world.
