contemporary fantasy about a newly adopted girl trying to fit into her new life and ignore the mysterious voices in her head

she joins an environmental club for the summer with her best friend, and finds herself drawn to an old grove in the park

#The Girl and the Grove #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #hmm... #i went into this thinking it was more MG? but it's a bit generic YA in terms of character relationships #i feel like it didn’t have much atmosphere and it had a lot of opportunity to? #the mean girl is like. an extremely shallow villain. especially the audiobook voice for her #(not that there's not a place for one dimensional racist white girl antagonists) #it's cool to have an adoptee MC; and so is the author #but also it.....still has the trope of her finding her real parent.......... #like it's trying to do multiple things and the crossover of that makes the point weaker #me in chapter 2 like a clown: yeah i’m loving where this is going a story about friendship and trees and adoptive families no place for roma #nce here: #chapter 3: heres a hot guy #(but then he turned out to be a dick! but then she met a different love interest.) #realising there really aren’t THAT many YA books that have a focus on normal environmental activism. like not in a sff way. i mean it’s a li #little bit sff in this but #idk i would have dnfed this if i werent listening to the audiobook. im sure it has its audience tho!
