I don't agree with Martin's assessment that the supernatural trauma brought them together, and I think most of the time it actually made things harder, provided obstacles and kept them from talking.
BUT. I do have to give some credit to the one and only supernatural monster that actually did bring them closer, ultimate wingman Jane Prentiss. In just one season, she:
Trapped Martin in his flat, making Jon worry and shaking him out of his existing preconception of him.
Got him living in the archives, forcing the two of them to see each other more.
Stalked and terrorized the archives, giving them something to feel solidarity about (as they were the only two taking her seriously as a threat at the time.)
Trapped them in a room together, leading to a heart-to-heart.
Brought Martin to a realization about his feelings after he thought the worms had killed Jon. (MAG 186 - Quiet)
Got Jon thinking that actually maybe Martin is pretty capable after all due to how he handled the attack. (MAG 42 - Grifter's Bone)
Even after she died her corpse became a thoughtful gift for Martin to give Jon. If that isn't true wlw (worm loving woman)/mlm solidarity, I don't know what is.
