Josephine gave a gentle smile at him taking the initiative to hold her hand as she listened to Hunter talking about his day. Honestly, being with him brought the best in her at least from the last time she talked to Rinea. “There might be some people who are still bitter about the results but hopefully there won’t be too many rebellions.” Those who were related to the previous emperor were not happy about Alm at all and she had been keeping an eye on the gossip from the other noble women she talked with for work related reasons. “The manor has been looking a lot better than the first time.” It did look newer but it was a good thing that it was build on a strong foundation. “You would be correct. We don’t have those…technologies here but it was a good thing that you brought up some ideas from your time in the UNSC that Alm and Celica liked from the letter I received this morning.” Josephine stated as while her husband worked in the military, she had to do ‘noble work’ by being the leader of her land. “That reminds me. I also got a letter from Berkut and Rinea. It seems like Berkut doesn’t want us to get married before he does.” She gave a small laugh. “Unfortunately, due to not having gods rule over us, it has caused an issue on those who can officiate weddings.” It was normally the priests of Duma or Mila depending on where you lived. “Which in Berkut’s case means that emperor Alm would have to officiate his wedding which of course he doesn’t seem too pleased with.” Given the history between the two cousins, it made sense that there was still some tension. “I would be honored if the emperor married us, but he already has a lot on his plate so hopefully the problem will be solved soon enough.”  It was not the highest priority but people are going to want to get married so it would have to be resolved at some point.
Once the couple had arrived back to the manor, Josephine had gone over to the parlor room where the letters and other documents were kept. “While I was organizing stuff, I discovered something that I wanted to check out but I was waiting for you to arrive.” It was something that surprised her but also puzzled her. She walked over to what looked like a regular book but when she pulled the book, it moved one part of the bookshelf to reveal a hidden door. She turned on a lantern and slowly opened the door. There were indeed stairs leading to a room. “…It might not be anything bad but…” She was slightly worried since this is where her aunt had lived before she was killed by her husband.

~*It’s time for: Headcanon Time | Guest Staring: @pieman1112 ~
Tumblr media
//This is going to be a long headcanon post but I wanted to give a little more context about Josephine's dream of being a Bow Knight. Since Shadows of Valentia is a remake of FE2 Gaiden, In the game Bow Knights are a male only class, while Pegasus Knight is a female only class. Which to me honestly is weird and makes no sense. In future games there many more women that can become archers and also bow knights and it took Fates to make the first male Pegasus Knight which was a long time coming.
So in this head canon, as a child Josephine wanted to be just like her dear grandfather Reginald the first. During his time in the military, he was a Bow Knight but also could become a Myrimidon, a sword unit, if there was a need for him to do so in battle. So when his youngest granddaughter asked if she could learn how to use a bow as well, he was more than honored to teach her everything he knew. His former military colleagues would tell him that he shouldn't teach her that. He would simply laugh and tell them, "If she want to use the bow to fight then so be it! She's my granddaughter after all!"
It was not easy at first to shoot an arrow while on a horse but with practice and her grandfather's guidance she managed to do so. When she was around 13 years old, it was her time to start her military training in the Rigelian army. Her grandfather had unfortunately passed away when she was 10 years old so he never got the chance to see her in her armor. Since Josephine had experience riding horses, it was easy for her to become a Cavalier and she did get used to using a lance, but when she asked about reclassing her to a Bow Knight, her grandfather's old colleagues refused to promote her to that unit. However, they did agree that she was skillful with a horse and had potential just like her grandfather. So they instead encouraged her to become a Paladin. All she really could do was customize her armor to look as close to a Bow Knight's armor but not make it too obvious for her peers to notice.
As a teenager, the Emperor Rudolf and those were close to him were intimating so she never brought up her wanting to be a Bow Knight to him. She mostly was on patrols near where she lived and sometimes fought terrors and monsters for the most part. When she turned 18, she had the choice of staying in the army and be promoted to Paladin or go back to being a boring noble woman to 'prepare for marriage'. She picked the latter option as she realized she would never get to be a Bow Knight while the old military order was still around. So she gave up on her dream believing that no one in Valentia would ever think that a woman could be a Bow Knight. She never spoke about her time in the military to anyone except to Berkut. The only reason he knows is because he found Josephine's military records when he was making sure she would be good friend for Rinea and was confused why someone with high marks would suddenly leave. She had told him that it was better for her family if she married a higher noble in the future and she enjoyed being in Rinea's company. "That does explain why you were able to fight back those assassins with a lance with ease. It is a shame really, you would have been an excellent Paladin for my army. Should you ever change you mind, I can have that arranged. I am the crown prince after all." Is what Berkut told her. He did however make her a secret bodyguard for Rinea but would be a 'lady in waiting' or some sorts in public. Josephine agreed to this and as order she never told Rinea the truth about it but Rinea figured it out easily since Josephine helped her get away from any fighting close by and had seen her fight before.
Perhaps due to Alm and Celica being much more open with changes, Josephine feels like perhaps she might be able to become a Bow Knight or at least have other girls like her be able to become archers. She has yet to tell her Hunter (or any beloved that could have had) about her military days since they are not the happiness moments in her life but he will find out soon enough. It will certainly be a huge surprise to everyone when she does show off in a battle the same skills that Bow Knights have.

For the first time in the Spartan’s life he was nervous. At first he didn’t know what this feeling was. His pulse increased dramatically, so did his breathing. He couldn’t stand still. Honestly he thought he was having a heart attack or something similar. His daughter had to tell him that he was fine and just nervous. After some more pacing he decided it was now or never and went to search for Josephine’s parents. It took him a while to find them but with some help from the staff he was able to find where they were. He waited outside the door and took a breath before knocking to acknowledge his presence. He walked in when invited and walked towards the two. Instead of his combat armor, 197 was wearing the blue suit that Josephine had picked out for him. While it restricted his movement somewhat, it was expected of him to wear it while in Rigel so he would.
He cleared his throat before speaking.
“Count Reginald Edward Sherington the Second, Countess Rosemary Natalia Sherington. I come seeking your blessing in the marriage of your daughter Josephine. I know that when we first met you were wary of my intentions with your daughter but I hope I have proved beyond any doubt that my intentions are only good. Josephine is very important to me and I hope to have shown that.” He said. “I have also brought the ring to show you before I propose to Josephine with your blessing if you would honor me with it.”
The Spartan soon brings out the ring that he had been working on for months. It was a 24 karat gold ring with three gemstones lined up next to each other. On the far left as a sapphire gemstone with a similar color to his armor. On the far right was a garnet gemstone, picked out by Rebecca from when she learned that it was Josephine's favorite. For the one gemstone in the middle was the final one to complete the ring. A red diamond to show the love that the two had for each other. It took 197 a lot of favors and such to get a red diamond but he was able to do so. Now all he had to do was wait for their response. Every second felt like an hour to him.
The old Sherington couple were having tea in the parlor room that was separate from the main living room area of the manor. That room got more sun light and it was a nice day to look over at the garden area but not quite go onto the deck area as of yet. It was also the chance that the couple just wanted to spend some time with his wife and away from the servants and staff for a bit. “The tea you make is as wonderful as always my dear.” Reginald II often enjoyed the quiet moments with his wife very much so. “Thank you, my love. It’s enjoyable to make it for you.” Rosemary knew by now how to make exactly how her husband liked it. There were times when they just wanted to do thing for themselves instead of the servants so this was one of those breaks. “Wouldn’t I give to take a trip just the two of us again. It has been a long time hasn’t it?” Reginald II gave a small smirk. “Now darling, the last time we did that is when we ended up with another daughter.” Rosemary gave a knowing smile. “But, well I suppose when things settle, we can go on a small trip to the cottage at some point.” She did enjoy it when it was just them but of course the war had kept them all busy.
A knock on the door caused the romantic mood to end. “Yes? Who is it?” When  Reginald II heard whom it was...he gave a sigh before looking over his wife. She gave a soft smile before he called out. “Enter.” He simply said as he watched Hunter entered the room. He would listen to what he had to say out of politeness and also his wife’s request. Reginald II was dreading this day but he had been like that with all of his children but especially with Josephine since she was the youngest. “...Come sit down.” He told Hunter before he watched his wife look at the ring. She was better at that then he was. “I see sapphire, a dark garnet and... Goodness...this is a red diamond!” Rosemary was stunned the say the least. “So it is real? It must have taking quite a lot of effort to get it.” Reginald II gave credit for that one but jewelry to him was not important.
“...I’m sure Josephine has told you why we are hesitant to accept someone without a noble title.” Reginald II began. “My father adored Josephine very much and he would be furious if he knew she was in love with a non noble. It crush him when my younger sister died because of her commoner husband killing her...and completely banned them from marrying into the family.” It was a very tragic moment in the family’s life that no one wanted to repeat. “My two oldest children married nobility without too much trouble.” Granted he had still had to be won over but not nearly as hard as Hunter had to be for Josephine. “How can I trust that you will not hurt my daughter like other men have done before?” He was not blind at knowing how men had seen his daughter as nothing more than a beautiful woman who just needed to be ‘tamed’. He hated all of those men but his daughter was smart enough to put them in their place. “How can I trust you to not trade her for power like my sister’s husband had?” As a father though he still was worried about it. “...darling...” His wife looked on with sadness as she had tried to convince her husband but she knew it was hard for him due to past family trauma.

Hunter never really imagined his live going the way it did. For all of his time he thought his life would begin and end in the UNSC. It might have been that way if he hadn’t met his beloved wife, Josephine, in the halls of the Order of Heroes after a freak summoning brought him to the strange lands of Askr. Since then he had left the UNSC entirely, joined another military force altogether, married the love of his life that he never thought he would find, and had four beautiful children. Life was pretty strange with the way it turned out. He had recently heard talk around the manor and out in the town about a day they call the Day of Devotion. When he asked about it to some who said they were going to celebrate it, he was told that it was a day to celebrate with those that you loved. A day to make a significant other feel appreciated. While Hunter didn’t really get the idea of dedicating one day to such a task, he pondered if Josephine would celebrate a day like that. He figured that there wouldn’t be any real harm in celebrating a day such as this Day of Devotion so he would make a plan to surprise Josephine on that day.
Morning of the Day of Devotion had arrived, and Hunter had gotten up earlier than usual to begin the execution of his plan. Upon waking up, he snuck out of the bedroom as quietly as he could as to not wake his beloved from her beauty sleep. Making his way down the halls, he surprised some of the staff by entering the kitchen and asking if he could have some of their assistance using some of the equipment to make Josephine’s favorite breakfast. They offered to just do it for him but he insisted that he wanted to make it for her. The cooking staff soon agreed to help and they started to cook a breakfast Josephine soon wouldn’t forget. Once everything was finished cooking, Hunter placed it on a serving tray and decorated it a little with some roses from the garden. He placed them around the platter and then covered everything up with a cloche before taking it to his shared bedroom. He would slowly enter the room as Josephine was waking up.
“Good morning my love. I do hope you slept well.” He said as he got closer to the bed. “There was word about a celebration today called the day of devotion and I figured that you might like to celebrate it. So, for the occasion I made your favorite breakfast with some help from the staff.”
—~*~— Day of Devotion Accepting | @pieman1112   —~*~—
Having four kids was not easy for any parents, but the home was a lot more joyful these days. The children were up and getting ready but Josephine was allowed to sleep in today. The nanny insisted on looking after the children on the day of devotion and had already planned some activities for them. She had a good sleep and had given a yawn as she heard her husband coming into the room. “I did sleep well thanks to you.” She always felt safe in his arms when he was there. “Oh so they finally made it an official holiday here? About time ~” She was starting to getting used to the rule of Alm and Celica, but it also helped that the climate was so much better than it was years ago. The people of old Rigel were getting used to it as well but most importantly it was just nice to not suffer all the time. “Aww how sweet of you! Now come here ~” she gave him a sweet kiss as a reward for that.
She soon however heard the pitter patter of their children coming in. That poor nanny had to deal with so much. “Mother! Father! Look!” Their 6 year old son Wilford came running in with the others soon following him. It seemed that the children had made them gifts! How cute! “Happy Day of Devotion.” Edward shyly said before presenting the cards and a bag with cookies in them that they made. “We made sure it was very pretty!” Rosalind said proudly. “Yeah!” Wilford said agreeing with his big sister. “Ed and I made cookies yesterday!” Xenia said with a smile. “We did try our best. We love you both very much so we wanted to make it for this day of love.” Edward said as well the shape was terrible but the servants made sure it tasted good. “Aww thank you so much! We love it!” Josephine gave kisses on the heads for all of her babies. “Now children, come along now. Your parents need their alone time.” Their nanny said before the kids got their hugs before following their nanny to the play room. Josephine gave a chuckles as she looked at the cards and cookies. “Aww no wonder they were so excited yesterday.” It was so cute when they were doing their best to make their own gifts. “Now then I should enjoy your food before it gets cold ~” she was looking forward to it and yes she was going to try the cookies even if she was worried about how they would taste.

Upon visiting the land of Rigel once again, Rebecca had brought some boxes of Pocky from the UEG and she had given a box to her father so that he could share with Josephine. She even brought some boxes for the rest of the family. She ushered him out so he could go have Josephine play the pocky game with him. He still didn’t understand this game but he would go find Josephine to play it. It didn’t take him long to find his wife. He approached and gently put his hand on her right shoulder not to startle her with his sudden appearance.
“Rebecca has brought us some pocky and has said that we should try this pocky game that was invented a long time ago. Apparently it is were two people put one end of the chocolate biscuit in their mouths and then proceed to eat it. Usually when they get to the middle it results in a kiss. Do you wish to try it? I have more than enough of the pocky sticks here that we can share without playing this game.“
--------------------------------------
It was no surprise that when Rebecca came to visit, the Sherington family was ecstatic to see her. It was not a shock when the family pretty much stole Rebecca away especially the little children who wanted to play with her. So with Rebecca, this would be a good opportunity for Hunter to spend some alone time with his fiancée. Josephine always thought it was cute seeing her family accept Rebecca as part of the family quickly, but Hunter still had a long way to go.
The Countess had of course been busy in the study with resolving issues of those who were living off the land she owned. “Hmm...changing some parts of the unused land to farms would be a good idea...but I would have to find people who are willing to be farmers.” While she knew that the kingdom was changing so that everyone should do commoner work, but...well she wasn’t gifted with plants like Lady Rinea was.
Seeing her husband come into the room brightened her mood as she got up to greet him. She made sure the door was shut before listening to him talk about the pocky game. “I see. You know if you just want an excuse to kiss me you could just ask my love ~” Granted they had to be affectionate in private. “We can give it a try. It sounds like fun.” She had a feeling that when they tried it once, they would most likely end up making out on the sofa in the room. She did crave the moments when they could be passionate but they had to make sure they didn’t go overboard though. Oh how she wished they were already married.

Countess trying to control her emotions. She should not be feeling this way at all. She needed to be strong and focus on being the best lady in waiting even if she was unhappy about it. She soon felt her beloved put his arm around her and the gentle touch of his hand. She could not think those dark thought...her beloved would be sad if she died.
“...I’m sorry...I shouldn’t be thinking these sad thoughts...you, your daughter and my family would be sad if I died...”  Yes her father was being stubborn, but he would never wish for anything bad to happen to his daughter. “...I just...I don’t know what to do...” She was at a loss of how to tackle everything going on in her life. She felt at least her family would be happy with her being a lady in waiting, but was still unsure if that would make a difference in changing her father’s mind.
She tried to dry her tears as she looked over to see that her beloved had brought her favorites to try to make her feel better. “...You’re so sweet to want to cheer me up so...I feel lucky to have you in my life.” She managed to give him a small smile as she was slowly getting better.

“Hi Josephine!” Rebecca said out of the blue. “I’ve been meaning to ask if you had a favorite gemstone. Mine’s ruby because I really like the deep red color.” No she totally wasn’t asking for her father. What a strange accusation.
~*~
Tumblr media
“Oh hello Rebecca. Well I would agree with you on the gemstone. Red is my favorite color so I do tend to go for Ruby. I also happen to like Garnet which there are red varieties of them as well. A red diamond would be fascinating to have although I only heard about those in fairy tales. Granted the woman who had it in the fairy tale was an evil sorceress who got it from her lover, but I still liked it. I think my mother still has that book.” It was an interesting topic to ask. “If that’s your way of asking me to go jewelry shopping with you for future balls, I don’t mind. Heck we can stop by the tailor that I know if you want to have a dress made to match it.” She thought Rebecca was looking for some jewelry to wear for nobility parties.

Learning about the man who stole the Countess’s Heart | @pieman1112
~*~
Rinea had told Josephine that she was feeling better but still needed to walk around a bit. She was listening to her worries and the Countess was honest about the situation. Since Josephine had listen to her worries about Lord Berkut, Rinea decided she wanted to do the same and help her. It would be fairly easy to spot Spartan as his armor stood out quite a lot from everyone else. She took a deep breathe before going to up to him.
Tumblr media
“Greetings, Lord Spartan right? May I take up a moment of your time? I must talk to you about the Countess for a bit.” She needed to know what was going on through his eyes.

“Lady Rebecca is very different from her father isn’t she? She’s much more cheerful and optimistic.” It seems like a surprise but and interesting one. “I enjoy her company and like her father she has been asking about Rigel life and learning the nobility life. It feels like they both are planning to be living in Rigel aren’t they?” That would be no problem with her. “I do hope Lady Rebecca does find her own love someday...being a wife of a noble or even prince will not be easy but I think she can handle it.”

A blush appears on the Countess’s cheeks.
Tumblr media
“What can I say about my beloved Hunter? It seems like yesterday on that beach that I was stubborn about him not being in that armor and to enjoy himself. Then well he did not disappoint on the looks department, but my heart was still worried since well...he is not a nobleman.” Looking back it was a bit of a risk wasn’t it? She knew it was but she wanted to try.
“...But Lady Rinea told me how much he was putting effort in wanting to learn more about my culture and what it took to try to impress my family. It pretty much hit me that...he loved me and that I was just afraid to love someone who did not meet my so called ‘perfect vision’ of a man that I thought I needed. If anything I learned how foolish I have been when it comes to ranks of others.” She gave a small smile. “I still have a long ways to go to become a better person though, but it seems my dear Hunter is in it for the long hall. Of course marriage all depends on my father’s approval...but as time goes on...it seems like a high possibility now. We will just have a wait and see...if Hunter is allowed to pop the question.” She had a feeling it was going to happen sooner or later.

About Lord Hunter (Talking about him):
Tumblr media
“I think Lord Hunter is a wonderful man especially for how much he was determined to learn a lot of about Rigel nobility just to be with Countess Josephine. I have seen how sweet you are to her and how affection he is with her. I must say I am a little bit envious of their love as it seems to have progressed much faster and more...passionate from well what myself and Lord Berkut has been...” Rinea couldn’t help but feel a little bit jealous.
Tumblr media
“...at this rate they will get married...especially if he has permission from the Countess’s father...” She gave a sigh. “And ever since they went on that month long vacation to his world...it just feels like they got even closer than before but I don’t know why I have that feeling! I am happy for them...but...oh Lord Berkut ( @sireneia)...I...oh I should not want such a thing!  That public display of affection that they do is...affecting me! I must not be greedy...but I feel so lonely...oh dear...what is wrong with me?” It seems that Countess and Hunter’s relationship has started to make Rinea wonder if she will ever have that. She just hoped that Lord Berkut would never find out about this wanting of more affection.

“Well I will admit it is a little bit weird that she is the daughter of the man I love but also just happens to be the same age as me. However that is sometimes what may happen when you are attracted to older men. Well having a step child never really bothered me so long as she knew that I would not end up like those ‘evil step mothers’ from the fairy tales. While I can’t mother her like I would have wanted to, I will let my own mother do that for me. She is well liked in my family...shoot even my stubborn father adores her.” Countess gave a laugh seeing how sweet her father was to Rebecca and treating her like a daughter.
“A part of me wishes she was at least 10 but well...at least she seems to approve of me with her father. So I just hope...should I be blessed with children...that she will be alright with siblings that are...way younger than she is.” That was something Josephine was curious about...but of course she wanted to be married first.

Having fun in the Sun! | @pieman1112
~*~
With Lord Berkut being protective of Lady Rinea and taking very good care of her, Josephine had a lot of free time. Even if Berkut wasn’t there, Rinea would be with Lord Alm. So for those two days of pirate panic, Josephine got to spend time with Spartan. True she did check up on Lady Rinea but for the most part Rinea would tell her that she was fine and to spend time with the boyfriend. That or Berkut would tell her she was not needed. She liked it when Rinea told her that not him. Regardless she had a lot of fun in those two days and even let Spartan stay in her inn suite. Where they would be more romantic and they could be affectionate with each other. She taught him how to cuddle and shared some kisses before they would go to their respective rooms.
The third day, Josephine was praising Rinea for doing well but for the most part Rinea stayed where Lord Alm was working, so she focused on her boyfriend. The fourth day ended up similar except when she saw Rinea get hit by a water balloon, she beat the hell out of a certain king with a parasol before happily continuing on with her date. Finally the Beach Party had arrived and she decided to make non-alcoholic mixed berry cocktails for the event.
So Josephine was at the pool bar area wearing her hot pink two piece swimsuit that she was looking forward to showing off and making some drinks here and there. Lady Rinea had been there before but decided she wanted to go to Lord Alm again since he had that ice supply for her bruises. So she made one of the mixed berry cocktails for Spartan to have. “Well looks like we get more free food today and tomorrow.” She looked over happily at her tip jar. “And I made money ~” She was having a good day. “Oh! How is your daughter doing?” She still did not know that Rebecca was much older than she thought.

The Spartan had been gone earlier that day with out a word to Josephine. He had gone around town gathering things for a special event he had planned. It wasn't til later that night where he went looking for Josephine. He was in the fancy suit that she picked out for him with some roses and a box of chocolates from the local candy maker. He walked up to her and kissed her on the lips before handing her the flowers and candy. "Happy day of devotion dear. I want this day to be special for you."
~*~
It had been an eventful day of devotion for the most part. Lord Berkut ( @sireneia) was being his typical self of ‘Look at my beautiful future bride! She is mine!’ as she watched Rinea blushing slightly at the attention. Countess made sure to not roll her eyes at this but gave a polite smile at the prince. Rinea of course had a hard time trying to pick something as she didn’t want to trouble him…and that is where having a lady in waiting comes in handy. Or at least Josephine knew Rinea so well by now that she could instantly tell if Rinea wanted something but was too shy to say anything.
Seeing the emperor in Askr shocked the heck out of Countess as well as Rinea but they went into their ‘must be proper’ immediately when he was there but it looked like the emperor was focused on his nephew. Josephine had to internally sigh in relief when the emperor was finally gone and she was not needed anymore. “Enjoy yourselves and please eat the chocolates Lady Rinea made for you, Prince Berkut. She worked very hard to make your favorites.” she said with a smile. “Thank you! Say hello to Lord Hunter for us!” Rinea said before going with beloved.
Now being free, the Countess went on her merry way back to her room to fix up her make up and hair before going out to see her beloved. He was in a suit and got her gifts! Oh he looked so handsome!
Tumblr media
“Aww you are spoiling me ~ You look really good in that suit.” Josephine was internally swooning. “This day is already special with you being my beloved. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you my love.” She gave him another kiss on his lips. She was very content with how life was going for her. Maybe wedding bells were in their future ~
