Driving with a Putter in Disc Golf Explained
Tumblr media
When it comes to disc golf, driving with a putter might not be the first technique that comes to mind. However, using a putter for long throws in disc golf can actually be a game-changer. By understanding the benefits and mastering the proper technique, you can improve your accuracy and overall performance on the course.
Key Takeaways:
Driving with a putter in disc golf can improve accuracy and control. Using a putter for long throws requires proper technique and practice. Putters have a slower speed but offer greater control and accuracy. Choosing the right putter is crucial for maximum driving performance. Consistent practice is essential for improving driving accuracy with a putter in disc golf.
Can you drive with a putter in disc golf Yes, you can drive with a putter in disc golf. While putters are typically used for shorter shots and putting, they can also be used for driving off the tee. Putters have a slower speed than other discs, but they offer greater control and accuracy. Driving with a putter requires proper technique and release, but it can be an effective way to navigate the course and improve your game.
When using a putter for driving, you may need to adjust your throwing technique slightly to maximize distance and accuracy. Focus on a smooth and controlled throw, releasing the disc at the correct angle and with the right amount of power. It’s important to maintain a consistent grip and follow-through to ensure a clean release and maintain control of the disc throughout the flight.
Driving with a putter can be particularly useful in situations where accuracy and control are more important than distance. For shorter holes or tight fairways, a putter can help you hit your target with precision and avoid potential hazards. Additionally, using a putter for driving can help beginners develop better throwing form and technique before transitioning to more high-speed discs.
While driving with a putter may not give you the same distance as a high-speed driver disc, it can still be an effective strategy that allows you to play to your strengths. As with any aspect of disc golf, practice and experimentation are key to finding what works best for you. Don’t be afraid to try different discs and techniques to discover your personal driving style with a putter.
The Fundamentals of Putter Driving in Disc Golf
Understanding Putter Dynamics for Disc Golf Drives When driving with a putter in disc golf, it is important to understand the dynamics of the putter disc. Putters have a deeper and more rounded rim compared to other discs, making them less aerodynamic but better at sticking in the chains of a basket.
They have slower speeds and a straighter flight path, allowing for accurate shots and control. Knowing how the putter disc behaves in flight will help you choose the right angles and release for maximum distance and accuracy.
Choosing the Right Putter for Maximum Driving Performance Selecting the right putter for driving in disc golf is crucial for maximum performance. Look for a putter with a little added stability and a comfortable profile that fits well in your hand. Opt for a putter made of premium plastic, which can handle high-speed throws without deformation.
Consider the grip and feel of the putter, as it should offer confidence and control during drives. Experiment with different putters to find the one that suits your throwing style and gives you the best results on the course.
Mastering Disc Golf Putter Driving Technique Mastering the technique of driving with a putter in disc golf is essential for achieving maximum distance and accuracy. Use a fan grip or modified fan grip for better control when throwing a putter. Focus on timing your release correctly, avoiding early or late releases that can cause the disc to veer off course.
Releasing the disc out in front of you at 12 o’clock with your thumb pointing forward will help the disc fly straight. Practice throwing the putter with height and follow-through for increased distance. Experiment with different release angles and techniques to find what works best for you.
The Importance of Practice in Putter Driving Practice is key when it comes to improving your putter driving skills in disc golf. Take your driving putter to an open field and practice releasing it correctly to get a feel for the timing and technique. Repeat the motion and release the disc multiple times to develop muscle memory and consistency.
Once you have a good grasp of the basics, take your putter to the course and practice throwing it in different situations, such as tunnel shots or straight approach shots. With consistent practice, you can overcome obstacles and improve your driving accuracy with a putter in disc golf.
Conclusion Driving with a putter in disc golf can have a significant impact on your game. While putters are typically associated with shorter shots and putting, they can also be effective for driving off the tee. By understanding the dynamics of putter discs, choosing the right putter, mastering the driving technique, and consistently practicing, you can achieve maximum distance and accuracy with a putter in disc golf.
Ezoic When driving with a putter, it is important to consider the unique characteristics of putter discs. Their slower speeds and straighter flight paths allow for better control and accuracy. By selecting a putter with added stability and a comfortable profile, you can ensure a confident grip and optimal performance. Additionally, practicing proper throwing techniques, such as using a fan grip or modified fan grip, and focusing on timing and release, can help you achieve straighter shots and increased distance.
Consistent practice is key to improving your putter driving skills in disc golf. Taking your putter to an open field and honing your release technique will build muscle memory and consistency. It is also important to practice throwing your putter in different situations on the course. By dedicating yourself to skill development and mastering the art of driving with a putter, you can enhance your disc golf game and become a more well-rounded player.

Games Played in 2023
New year, new post where I humiliate myself by posting everything I played this year! And actually? I'm pretty proud of myself this year! If you look at 2022, I bought a LOT of games! A crazy amount! But this time, I actually didn't spend nearly as much this year. My purchase list is pretty short, and I actually barely bought anything during Steam Sales! I actually did not buy ANYTHING during the autumn and winter sales and I'm genuinely proud of myself!
And I managed to play a BUNCH of stuff! I really tore through a lot of games and had a lot of fun even with the ones I had to play on super easy difficulties cause I suck at games lmao. If you're curious what I spent time playing, you can take a look under the read more!
Key
Present - Game was given to me by someone else
Gift - I gave the game to someone else, but I can still play that copy
Free - I got the game for free
And as always I only put games on here that I played for the first time or had the intention of beating for the first time or reached a big milestone in for the first time. I won’t include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for example, I played it a lot this year. But I played it a lot last year too.
I also removed stuff like itchio bundles and subscription services because it bloats the list and... I'm a little embarrassed haha.

===========
And there you have it! Everything I bought, beat, and tried through the year! As always, I'm certain there's stuff missing that I didn't intentionally axe. I keep track of this stuff kinda closely cause I'll completely forget otherwise but even I make mistakes or play stuff that's forgettable lol.
As for next year? There's a few things I'd like to play in 2024, a couple of series I want to continue and a couple of new things to try, as well as a lot of games I wanted to play THIS YEAR but didn't get around to it! My only real gaming resolution is to play less Fortnite. I'm serious!
Looking back at my goals for 2023 I actually did get through a lot of them. Megaman, God of War, and Enchanted Arms were all games I mentioned wanting to play. And I said I wanted to play more meaty RPGs and wouldn't you know it, my top 5 old games I played this year were ALL RPGs! So I think I did a good job!
I also did a lot of emulating this year and had a GREAT time with it! I experimented with a ton of consoles and it's interesting to see how certain things work for more complicated stuff like PS3/360. It really did open up what I can play and I can't believe I just stopped doing this for a while! Glad to be back! NOW I CAN MAKE GIFS!!
That should be that for 2023! Here's to a fantastic year full of fun and video games for everyone! Let's head into 2024 blazing!

13 Things You Should Consider Putting In Your Disc Golf Bag
Have you ever been out on the disc golf course and really needed something but didn’t have it? Maybe you had to ask someone you were playing with for it or maybe you had to run to your car to grab it. Depending on how much you really needed that thing, you may have had to drive home to get it.
Hopefully, after reading this list you’ll be fully prepared the next time you are out on the course and you won’t need to run back to your car. With all the things you need already in your bag, you’ll have more time to play. You won’t feel rushed and you’ll definitely have more time to consider that next big shot you’ll have to take.
1. Snacks
I always like to have something to snack on during a round. When I’m playing during the week it’s usually after a work day and I haven’t had something to eat since lunch. Having a snack in my bag keeps me prepared for when I get hungry. I won’t get that hunger headache that will disrupt my play. Also, my stomach won’t be growling when my friends are trying to putt.
The key to keeping snacks in your bag is having something small and nonperishable. Beef jerky and breakfast bars are my go-to snacks to keep in my bag. Sunflower seeds, Protein bars, peanut butter crackers, trail mix and dried fruit are all good options as well. If you are playing with others be sure to bring extra snacks to share.
2. Bug Spray
If you are like me and seem to attract ticks, you are going to want to keep some bug spray in your bag. I used to keep bug spray in my car and spray myself down before a round but sometimes I would forget and go without it. After playing a few rounds without spray and getting all kinds of bug bites, I’ve switched to keeping the spray in my bag. If you don’t seem to have a problem with bugs, you may want to keep bug spray in your bag anyway because you never know when you’ll be wading in the tall grass or foraging through the woods to find a lost disc.
3. Disc Golf Retriever
This one may not seem like a necessity, especially if your regular course doesn’t have any water but I promise you, you won’t regret having it the next time your disc goes splash. Even if your regular course doesnt have a pond it’s possible it could land in a flooded area after a strong rain. Also, you never know when your friends are going to suggest trying out a new course which could have some water. If you are worried about buying one saving two or three discs over your lifetime with this device will easily pay for the purchase and then some.
Check out of picks for the best disc golf retrievers.
4. Towel
Towels are great to have in your bag to prevent losing your grip on the disc. I usually keep two in my bag. One for drying off the disc when it gets wet and one for drying my hands off when they get sweaty. There are lots of specialized towels out there that are specially designed for disc golf and look more like bags than a normal towel you may be used to. These options are fine and should work great. But if you aren’t into buying one of these old dish towels are a great option too.
5. Water Bottle
It’s important to stay hydrated during a round of play especially in the hot months of summer. I have a bottle of water with me everytime I play and someone a backup in the car. When I first started playing disc golf I’d bring some bottled water but I’ve since switched to using a reusable water bottle. It’s more economical and it’s better for the environment.
6. Pencil/Marker
I have at least a pencil or a marker in my bag at all times but usually both. A pencil for keeping score on the scorecard. I use a marker for a couple of reason. One reason is to write my name on new discs or go over what I’ve written on old discs if they start to fade. Another reason I have a marker around is in case I get an ace. It’s customary to sign and date a basket when you ace it.
7. Scorecards
It’s always nice to have scorecards in the bag. It’s a convenient way to track your score and your friends’ score. I like to hold on to the cards so I can track my scores over time which shows me if I’m making progress. I play at multiple courses regularly and having access to the cards in my bag allows me to reference what I scored last time on a specific course so I know what to shot for. They also work from scratch paper and for taking notes.
8. Mini Clipboard
Having a mini clipboard in the bag makes keeping score on a scorecard a breeze. I can keep my scorecards organized by clipping them to the board in a specific order. It also helps with keeping the pencil and scorecards together. In a pinch, I have used the clipboard as a placeholder for a disc.
9. First Aid Kit
If you play disc golf long enough you are going to get hurt while playing and having a first aid kit with you at all times is a great way to be prepared. I’m constantly hurting my hands and fingers while playing or getting cuts on my legs when I have to play form a lie in the woods. It’s also a good habit to check the first aid kit every couple months to make sure it’s fully stocked with band-aids and antiseptic.
10. Mini
Having a Mini or Mini Disc Golf Marker in the bag makes it easy to mark your disc. You just pull your mini out of the bag, throw it down in front of your disc, toss your disc to the side or pick it back up and throw it. They also look really cool and are fun to collect. I keep multiple minis in my bag because they don’t take up that much space and I like to switch them up while playing.
11. Sunscreen
If you are like me and burn super easy in the sun having sunscreen in the bag is a must. You’ll want a brand that is designed for active wear and won’t be affected by your sweat. I like to get high SPF sunscreen but get the right sunscreen that works for you. I normally use sunscreen lotion when I have plenty of time beforehand to apply it but I keep some sunscreen spray in my bag because it’s quick and easy to use.
12. Baseball
This suggestion may seem a little odd but keeping a baseball in your bag will come in handy when you need to get a disc unstuck from a tree branch. I’ve been in many situations where my whole party had to stop play to throw rocks and branches up into a tree hoping to dislodge a disc from a tree branch. Having a baseball makes this process a lot easier. If you have a larger bag it doesn’t take up a log of room either.
13. Chapstick
Chapstick comes in handy when you are playing disc golf in the heat or cold. It keeps your lips protected during the summer months if you have SPF protection and it keeps them from chapping in the colder months. Keeping it the bag prevents me from having to put it in my pockets. I try to stay away from keeping chapstick in my pocket as it tends to make its way into the washer and dryer and ruin my clothes.

How To Choose The Best Frisbee Golf Discs – 3 Key Points To Remember
The beginner to a game is always the most vulnerable but do not let that make you bow down before the fight. Choosing the right sports gear and play accessories is often the key to winning. These act like a support system that constantly aids the player to achieve better results.
It would be important to remember that the Best Midrange Disc Golf on offer may not be the right ones for you. Choosing the disc is important and done mainly on the level of expertise of a player. The expertise will also determine the stage of the game a player is in.
Types Of Discs Available
There are mainly 4 types of golf discs available for choice. Choosing the right one for your game is important to perform well.
Distance Drivers
This disc flies fast and goes a long way. This is not the perfect choice for a beginner when they are new to handling discs. To maneuver the distance driver well, one needs to use spin with strength. It may not be the best way to start for a beginner.
Control Drivers
These are not the best choice for beginners. Players who have achieved a certain level of control over their game and shot playing can handle these better. This disc is perfect for a short throw and when there is a lean gap on the game course for the disc to go through.
Midrange Discs
These are very versatile for a variety of shots and are often kept handy by players for their practice sessions. Generally, these are on the heavier side which makes them less capable to achieve distance when thrown. But these are very effective when a player is trying to gain control over his shot than merely achieve distance with the throw.
Putter
These are the slowest moving of all 4 discs and thus easy to control. They do not gain a lot of distance but usually move straight through the air. These are perfect when one is trying to achieve a basket shot or even close to the same.
Top 3 Key Points To Remember Before You Buy That Disc
Here are the 3 key points you must consider when you check out the Disc Golf Frisbee Set .You may be a beginner but it wouldn’t hurt to check out all the types of discs before the final purchase.
Type
Knowing your best type of disc will be important. You may consult a senior in the game or a coach or trainer. Most beginners opt for the putter and a mid-range disc.
Weight
The weight of the disc is very important. For beginners in the game, lightweight discs are always preferable, which would make them comfortable while practicing shots.
Plastic
All discs are made of plastic. When you see the different price ranges for a similar type of disc, you should know this is due to the quality of the plastic used in their making.
There are base quality plastics that are the cheapest and premium quality which are the highest priced ones.

5 Reasons You Should Be Spin Putting
Without question, the most important part of your disc golf game is putting. Even if you manage to throw super long distances, your lower scores can be hurt if you can’t sink your putts.
Practice and consistency are the keys to putting success. But how do you choose which approach to take?
There are lots of routes to take when deciding on which style to go with. I’ve written about them here. One great option is push putting. Which I’ve covered in detail here.
But the style we’re going to talk about today is spin putting. In this article, I’m going to give you five reason you should be spin putting. Let’s take a look at them.
1. Great For Beginners
The spin putting technique is an excellent choice for a new disc golfer. The release needed to put spin on a disc is more intuitive.
Beginners are used to throwing a disc and using spin to help throw the shot. Spin putting is no different.
The motion used when spin putting is a throwing motion which is different from the pitch motion of the push putt. Putting in this way can be easier to aim because the putt basically flies in a straight line.
All these reason make the spin putt a great option for beginners to both learn and find success
2. Less Affected By The Wind
No one likes putting in the wind. Having your disc carried off target and float past the basket is no fun.
Adding more strokes to your final score is a bummer. That’s why learning the spin putt is so great.
The disc is less likely to be affected by windy conditions. The disc’s spin keeps the disc flying straighter and prevents the wind from getting under the disc and pushing it off course.
So even if you stick with your push putting style, learning the spin putt for those windy days is a viable option. If you play a lot in the Midwest, learning to push with spin is a must.
For more tips on play in the wind, check out this article.
3. Consistent At Varying Distances
One of the keys to disc golf success is being able to play consistently day in and day out. If you can throw the disc and know where it’s going to go every time you’ll play better.
Putting is the exact same way. Being able to keep your putting routine the same each putt is going to make it easier to knock down your putts overtime.
The spin putt will help you do that. Each putt, no matter the distance is going to be the same release point and the same angle. Not having to make the call each time you step up to a putt is going to lead to lower scores.
4. Great For Low Ceilings
If you’ve ever had your putt blocked by a low hanging branch, you know it can be frustrating.
For the push putting style, in order to make a disc fly to the basket, the disc must be released nose up and fly in an arch toward the basket.
There is nothing wrong with push putting but if you have a low hanging ceiling or an obstacle it can be tricky to sink your putts. This is where the spin putt will shine.
Spin putting doesn’t require an arch. The disc will fly straight toward the basket, flying under any low ceilings.
5. Works Well Outside The Circle
Another drawback to the push putting style is it can be different to get the disc to reach the basket. You need to release the disc high and use your lower body to power the disc forward for extra distance.
Using a putter with extra glide can help it get there. This isn’t a problem when spin putting.
Releasing the disc on the same line with the same angle will get you to the basket each time if your aim is on point. Knocking down long putts outside of the circle shouldn’t be a problem with this approach to putting.
Final Thoughts
If you’re new to disc golf, I hope you’ll consider the spin putt for your main putting style.
For beginners, it’s easy to pick up and learn. It works well in the wind and at long distances. Spin putting is a consistent motion from anywhere in or outside the circle.
nd you don’t have to be intimidated by a low ceiling. All these reasons make it an excellent choice. So, I hope you’ll choose to spin your way to putting success.

Movie Review | Mulholland Drive (Lynch, 2001)
Tumblr media
This review contains spoilers.
David Lynch's Mulholland Drive was released in recent years by the Criterion Collection, that great home video company that's probably the OG of boutique labels, known for putting out acclaimed, significant or otherwise interesting films in really nice packages. (For some reason I had been thinking they put this out only last year until I actually looked it up. I guess my sense of time has been a little warped as of late, and as much as I'd like to tie this review into pandemic-era life, the fact is other labels have captured my attention lately, as can be evidenced by my embarrassingly large and extremely shameful Vinegar Syndrome haul from their Halfway to Black Friday sale from a few months ago.) Now, nobody in 2021 is going into this movie truly blind, but if I happened to pick up the Criterion cover and perused the back, aside from the list of special features and disc specs, you'd see the below (which I grabbed off their website):
Blonde Betty Elms (Naomi Watts) has only just arrived in Hollywood to become a movie star when she meets an enigmatic brunette with amnesia (Laura Harring). Meanwhile, as the two set off to solve the second woman’s identity, filmmaker Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux) runs into ominous trouble while casting his latest project. David Lynch’s seductive and scary vision of Los Angeles’s dream factory is one of the true masterpieces of the new millennium, a tale of love, jealousy, and revenge like no other.
Now, this is a tough movie to evoke with only a blurb, but I'd say that does a pretty respectable job. I however do not own this release. What I do own is the barebones Universal DVD that was released a few months after the movie, back when going into the movie blind would have been far more likely. This is the description on the back:
This sexy thriller has been acclaimed as one of the year's best films. Two beautiful women are caught up in a lethally twisted mystery - and ensnared in an equally dangerous web of erotic passion. "There's nothing like this baby anywhere! This sinful pleasure is a fresh triumph for Lynch, and one of the best films of the year. Visionary daring, swooning eroticism and colors that pop like a whore's lip gloss!" says Rolling Stone's Peter Travers. "See it… then see it again!" (Time Out New York)
Now, the previous description probably couldn't fully capture the movie's essence, but this one makes it sound like an erotic thriller. (Could you imagine somebody going into this thinking this was like a Gregory Dark joint? I say this having seen none of his thrillers and only his hardcore movies, although I must admit an MTV-influenced Mulholland Drive starring, say, Lois Ayres is something I find extremely intriguing.) But you know what? Good for them. Among other things, this movie, with its two all-timer sex scenes, feels like one of the last hurrahs from an era when mainstream American movies could be unabashedly horny, before we were sentenced to an endless barrage of immaculately muscular bodies in spandex (stupid sexy Flanders) somehow drained of all sex appeal (god forbid somebody pop a boner...or ladyboner, let's be egalitarian here). I apologize if I'm coming off as a little gross, but having been able to barely leave the house for practically a year and a half, watching sexy movies like this is one of the few remaining thrills at my disposal. Please, this is all I have.
Now I suppose I should say something about the movie itself, but it might be a challenge given how elusive it is in certain respects (Lynch is notoriously cagey about offering interpretations of his movies) and, as a result, how heavily it's been scrutinized over the years. No doubt any analysis I offer as to the movie's overarching meaning will come off extremely dumbassed. What I will note however, is that for whatever reason, the scene I remembered most vividly is where Justin Theroux walks in on his wife with Billy Ray Cyrus, particularly the candy pink paint he dumps on her jewellery as revenge. We've been following Theroux, a movie director, as he's been having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day, having had control over casting his lead actress taken from him, which he proceeds to process by taking a golf club to a windshield of his producers' car and then reacting as above when he finds his wife with the singer of "Achy Breaky Heart".
With his Dune having been notoriously tampered with by producers, I suspect there's a bit of Lynch's own experience in the scene with the producers, which plays like an entirely arbitrary set of rituals deciding the fate of his movie with no regard for his opinion or even basic logic. While I don't know how particular Dino DeLaurentiis was about his espresso, I did laugh. Now, taking the reading that the first two acts of the movie are a fantasy of Naomi Watts' character, who is revealed to be miserable and ridden with jealousy in the third act, the amount of time we spend with Theroux is maybe hard to justify. Is this perhaps her "revenge" on him, his romantic and professional success having been flushed away while he flounders in search of greater meaning to his arc? Aside from possible autobiographical interest, these scenes do play like a riff on the idea that everyone is the main character in their own story, and if the Watts and Laura Harring characters can be thought of as having merged or swap identities, then perhaps Theroux's arc is the remainder of that quotient. (Now, it's worth noting that aside from being insecure and arrogant, Theroux in this movie is a less stylish than the real Lynch. If Watts conjures the best version of herself in her dream, Lynch maybe doesn't want his dream avatar outshining him.)
Now why did the Cyrus scene stick with me all these years when other details had slipped? Mostly because I'd found it amusing, partly because of the extra specific image Lynch produces, and somewhat because of the casting of Billy Ray Cyrus. Now, I don't have any special relationship to the Cyrus' body of work, but Lynch's casting of him, with his distinct mix of bozo, dudebro and hunk, results in a very specific comedic effect. This is something Lynch does elsewhere in the movie, like when he has Robert Forster show up as a detective for a single scene. The Forster role is likely in part a leftover from the movie's origins as a TV pilot, but the effect is similar (albeit less comedic). Melissa George appears as a woman who may or may not be a replacement for Watts in some realm of reality. Other directors obviously cast actors for their screen presence and the audience's relationship to their career, but the way Lynch does it feels particularly pointed, as if he's reshaping them entirely into iconography. The effect is particularly sinister with the presence of Michael J. Anderson, with whom he worked previously on Twin Peaks, and Monty Montgomery as a mysterious cowboy who dangles the secret of the movie over Theroux's character.
Cowboys in movies are frequently heroic presences (see any number of westerns) and are otherwise innocuously stylish (I confess I've come dangerously close to ordering a Stetson hat and a pair of cowboy boots), but the presence of one here feels like a ripple in the movie's reality. A dreamy, brightly lit mystery set in Los Angeles should have no place for a cowboy. It ain't right. (It's worth noting that Lynch at one point copped to admiring Ronald Reagan for reminding him of a cowboy. Is this his expression of a changed opinion? I have no idea, but Lynch has never struck me as all that politically minded.) Neither is the hobo that appears behind the diner. Certainly hobos have made their homes behind diners, but this one's presence and the way Lynch produces him feel again like a ripple in the the movie's narrative. Jump scares are frequently knocked for being lazy and cheap devices to generate shocks, but the one here gets under your skin.
Now about the movie's look. This starts off like a noir, and the mystery plot on paper would lead you to think that's how the whole movie plays, but the cinematography is a lot brighter, with almost confection-like colours, than that would lead you to believe, at least during the daytime scenes. This is another element that likely comes from its TV origins, but it does give the movie a distinctly dreamlike, fantastical quality that a more overtly cinematic look, like the one Lynch used in Lost Highway a few years earlier, might not capture. This is one of the reasons I think this movie works better than that one, and there's also the fact that the amateur sleuthing that drives the bulk of the plot here serves as a more pleasing audience vantage point than the male anxieties that fuel the other film. I also would much rather hang out with Naomi Watts and Laura Harring than a charisma void like Balthazar Getty.
The manufactured warmth of the daytime scenes also results, like in Blue Velvet, in the nighttime scenes feeling like they're in a completely different setting, one which perhaps offers the key to unlocking the mystery, or at least revealing the phoniness of the movie's surfaces. I think of the evocative Club Silencio sequence, which comes as close as anything in the movie to laying its illusions bare. ("No hay banda.") But at times Lynch will throw in disarmingly childlike, inexplicable imagery, like the dancing couples against a purple screen in the opening, something that would seem tacky and amateurish elsewhere but feels oddly cohesive here. There are a number of directors whose work I admire for being "dreamlike", and putting them side by side they all feel quite distinct (you would never mistake a Lucio Fulci film for a Lynch), but they have the unifying idea of imbuing the tactile qualities of film with the truly irrational to really burrow into your subconscious. Other directors have made movies with some of the same elements as Mulholland Drive, but none have put them together in quite the same way.

i’ve been constantly scrolling through my photos of this year. it was the longest and shortest year of my life. the best and the worst. the most rewarding and the most disappointing. what a fuckin wild ride it’s been
Tumblr media
January
I started 2020 dressed up, drunk, and in a ballroom in GR when I wanted to be drunk in the woods.
I spend the rest of January getting drunk in the woods or in dive bar booths.
Tumblr media
February
Erich and I go to Detroit for Fat Tuesday and we eat and drink our way across the city. I decide I’m going to move to Detroit.
Sarah and I go out every chance we get. We’re at every hockey game. We’re at every happy hour. We accept every invitation. 2020 was our YES year.
I decide if I’m moving to Detroit, why not kiss that cute bouncer from The Bird.
Tumblr media
March
Continuing our year of YES, Sarah and I start a podcast and buy spitting distance ring-side tickets to Smackdown in Detroit. We get a hotel and plan on stumbling around the city and talking about all the things we’ll do when I live there.
The morning of, it’s cancelled due to concerns about the virus. I drive to Pittsburgh instead. Katie not-so-jokes that I should move there. I laugh it off.
Tumblr media
April
I have a health crisis that I gave everyone entirely too much information about. My doctor isn’t seeing patients and diagnoses me over the phone. Sarah has to bring me medicine because I can’t walk.
I leave my doors unlocked at night because I am convinced I am either going to a) die or b) the EMT responders will have to break down my door if I don’t.
I didn’t die. But I don’t think Josh will ever recover.
Tumblr media
May
Me and the boys go disc golfing a lot. I have outdoor movies and fires for myself once a week. I work from my hammock most days.
While walking in the county park I stop and realize the next place I live needs to have trees and water and parks like this. Detroit isn’t for me. Right there on River Loop, I decided move to Pittsburgh instead.
Tumblr media
June
Marcus visits often and we do a lot of Molly and play Resident Evil. (Okay, he makes me play and I scream and he laughs at me)
In between I become obsessed with getting the house ready to sell. I learn electric and plumbing work from YouTube. I put a lot of lipstick on that pig.
I go kayaking with my boys and drop my phone in the river. I feel like I deserve that.
Tumblr media
July
I list the house on the 2nd and go to my mom’s for the holiday weekend so people can view the house. By the 4th, it’s sold. Independence Day.
Sarah and I take a very spur of the moment trip to Pittsburgh to see an apartment I want. I don’t get it, and I’m devastated.
I respond to a random ad on Craigslist for the *perfect* apartment. I don’t have time to go back to the city so I immediately send in a signed lease and security deposit without ever setting foot in it. I spend the next month sweating that it’s a scam.
Me and the Salty Crew go to Beaver Island and explore the deserted island by ourselves. We get really high and look at stars. We see a rare comet with our bare eyes. We find a levitating tree while we look for a mysterious old growth forest. I think maybe I should move to Beaver Island instead of Pittsburgh.
The day after we come back from the island, I have my final divorce hearing over a Zoom call.
The next day I turn 31.
Tumblr media
August
The house is packed up. I stay with the cute bouncer from the Bird and he makes me dinner and tells me how pretty I am every night. He cries the morning I leave town.
On closing day, the buyer makes me so frustrated and sad that I have a complete breakdown in my car before going in to sign the papers. I cry into my mask. I accidentally break a vase in the parking lot. This makes me cry into my mask more.
I pick up my keys and am relieved to find out the apartment isn’t a scam, and it is perfect after all. Very, very dirty. But perfect. Katie drives all the way from Virginia to help me unpack.
Tumblr media
September
I take a lot of walks. I get lost often. I  make Helga go to beer gardens with me so I don’t look crazy drinking alone. I meet my first people.
I open my online shop.
Tumblr media
October
I drive back to Michigan to be with my family at our yearly cabin reunion. We walked around and pointed out all of our favorite memories. We throw Dane a bachelor party and he elopes the following weekend.
I decide on a whim to go to a brewery with Helga. There’s another woman there with a bulldog. We hit it off immediately.
I become suspicious that maybe my apartment is haunted.
Tumblr media
November
Walking. Working. Crafting. Walking. Repeat.
I start to find a groove and make a lot of sales in my new shop.

December
After a date night with Amy, drunk on wine and charcuterie I decide to download bumble. It doesn’t last long.
We get a downfall of 9″ of snow and I walk for 6 miles in the thick of it around the city and admire how pretty my new home is.
I don’t want to be anywhere else.
