Kia’s Affordable Electric Drive: Carens EV to Hit Indian Roads by 2025 with Awesome Features!
Tumblr media
Kia's unveiling of plans for the Carens EV during its 2024 Investor Day has sparked anticipation in the Indian market, with the company targeting a 2025 launch. This move underscores Kia's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup while ensuring advanced features and affordability.
The Carens EV, tailored specifically for the Indian market, represents a strategic addition to Kia's portfolio. It fills a crucial gap in the segment, offering a promising alternative for environmentally conscious consumers. Initially introduced as an India-centric recreational EV in 2022, the Carens EV has evolved to meet the evolving demands of the market.
Currently, Kia's electric offerings in India include the EV6, with the flagship EV9 SUV set for debut in 2024. The Carens EV is poised to complement these offerings, providing Indian consumers with a wider range of electric vehicle choices.
Although specific technical details remain undisclosed, expectations suggest impressive features such as a claimed range of 400-500 km, DC fast charging, and V2L functionality. The Carens EV is also anticipated to boast premium features mirroring those of the standard Carens model.
Part of Kia's broader strategy involves introducing 15 EVs globally by 2027, with the Carens EV designated for the Indian market initially. Manufacturing will take place across Kia's global network of 13 factories, ensuring efficiency and quality control.
Safety remains a top priority, with the Carens EV expected to feature robust safety measures including six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
With an expected starting price of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), the Carens EV aims to become the most affordable electric MPV in India, catering to a niche segment seeking eco-friendly mobility solutions. This move aligns with Kia's commitment to electrification and sustainability, offering Indian consumers an innovative and environmentally conscious choice in the burgeoning electric vehicle market.

Hyundai has 2 manufacturing plants in the country and each of them can manufacture approximately 6 lakh units every year. The carmakers have a service network of nearly 1,000 facilities. In almost 2 decades, Hyundai has managed to launch a wide range of vehicles right from entry-level hatchbacks to high-end SUVs. Some of the popular car models include the Grand i10, Verna and Creta. Now, Hyundai is expected to launch its 4th generation Verna in march 2023. As of now, Hyundai India has displayed a concept image of Verna which clearly shows its dimensions and design language. To add on, Mahindra is set to launch its upcoming 4×4 car, 5-door Thar which will directly rival the Suzuki Jimny. According to Mahindra, 5-door Thar will be more practical than 3-door. The car is most likely to launch with both petrol and diesel engines which are already offered in 3-door Thar
4.    Hyundai Stargazer
Tumblr media
Hyundai has never launched an MPV in the history of the Indian market. Finally, Hyundai has decided to launch its upcoming MPV Stargazer. The car is expected to launch at the end of 2023 and will rival the segment king Suzuki Eritga and Kia Carens. Hyundai Stargazer offers a very unique design that will surely attract the customers and will be a feature-loaded car with spacious interiors.
5.    Honda HR-V

Kia EV6: Kia's first-ever EV
Tumblr media
Kia India has had a very successful journey in mass-market cars. Their ICE vehicles in India are the Kia Sonet, Kia Seltos, Kia Carens, and the Kia Carnival. However, since EVs are the future, Kia Motors globally introduced their first-ever EV, the Kia EV6.
The Kia EV6 made its debut in India at an introductory price of Rs. 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India) for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant. The AWD variant of the Kia EV6 has a price tag of Rs64.95 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).
As of now, the Kia EV6 doesn't have a direct competitor in India.
The Kia EV6 will make its way to India via the CBU route.
Considering the Kia EV6's price, will it fall under the luxury or premium EV category? Let's find that out in this Kia EV6 review.
Kia EV6: Features and Safety
The interior of the Kia EV6 looks futuristic, and it comes with a long list of features. It gets a hands-free tailgate, solar glass, front ventilated seats, an auto-dimming IRVM, a heads-up display (HUD), 64-colour ambient lighting, etc. In addition, the Kia EV6 features two 12.3-inch displays: a touchscreen infotainment display and a driver-side display screen. On the safety front, it receives numerous ADAS features, eight airbags, etc.
The Global NCAP has given the Kia EV6 a safety rating of 5 stars.
Apart from the features, it's interesting to know that the cabin of the Kia EV6 consists of eco-friendly materials. For instance, the door map pockets, mats, seats, etc., are made from recycled plastic bottles.
Kia EV6: Platform and Drivetrain
The Kia EV6 uses Hyundai's E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). Presently, two vehicles have E-GMP: the Hyundai IONIQ5 and the Kia EV6. However, the India-spec Kia EV6 will get a 77.4kWh battery pack with a WLTP-claimed range of up to 528km. Customers can choose either of the drivetrains: RWD or AWD. The RWD gets a single electric motor that produces 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. On the other hand, the AWD will have a dual electric motor that will generate 323bhp and 605Nm. To compare the specifications of the Kia EV6 variants, visit "compare cars" in the cars section on autoX.
Kia EV6: Warranty and Assistance
The EV6 will have a warranty of 3 years, unlimited kilometres, and an additional battery coverage of 8 years, or 1,60,000 kilometres.
In addition, Kia India will provide 24/7 Nationwide Roadside Assistance for three years.
Kia EV6: Price and Rivals
The Kia EV6 rivals the BMW i4, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the upcoming Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Skoda Eniyaq iV. The Kia EV6 price in India is pretty much on the higher side. Except for the BMW i4 and the Kia EV6, the rest of the cars' prices are yet to come.  However, there is an ex-showroom price difference of Rs4.95 lakh between the Kia EV6 AWD and the BMW i4. Only time will tell which car will be a better buy after the on-road test. For more updates, stay tuned to autoX.

Top Used Kia Models & Their Reliability
Tumblr media
Kia has emerged as a powerhouse within the South African automotive industry over the past decade and is striving to provide the best value proposition for those considering a vehicle purchase. KIA has not always been the giant in SA that it is now, and its first attempts were often met with cold shoulders from the buying public.
With a commitment to building quality cars with attractive styling and loads of standard features, KIA has changed those earlier perceptions, and have taken their rightful place in our market.
Using a host of quality assurance indicators such as JD Power, the Kinsey Report, and polling on social media, we have collated data and set out to list the KIA models that are most reliable from a consumer standpoint. We would like to point out that although some models are no longer available; almost all respondents had very positive feedback around their KIA models, making compiling this list rather difficult.
1. Carens
The Carens was Kia’s attempt at the mid-sized MPV market and unfortunately, South Africans didn’t respond favourably. There were a few sold and generally those that purchased them were happy with their minivan. However, low sales numbers made parts expensive when they needed to be replaced.
2.  Shuma
One of the first major KIA sedans introduced to South Africa, the Shuma was quite well- specced for the segment at the time. South Africans were not overly convinced and they never moved huge numbers, and that's why the Shuma would go the same way as the Carens.
3. Optima
The KIA Optima was a leap ahead for the brand, with good build quality, a high spec level, and a decent driving experience. South Africans once again turned the cold shoulder, mostly because it was a non-premium-brand medium sedan without a premium badge, and very few of these were sold. This was, in fact, a very good car, but would once again suffer the same fate as the Carens and Shuma, due to lack of interest.
4. Sedona
The Sedona and Grand Sedona had much more success in the South African market. The luxury MPV market served hotels, resorts and fleet companies, and the Sedona models sold relatively well. The only negative reports we were able to find indicated expensive servicing costs on heavily used vehicles. Early V6 variants were also quite problematic, but that was sorted soon enough.
5. Sorento
KIA’s big SUV is a regular shopping choice but strangely enough, much like the Hyundai Santa Fe, doesn’t seem to move large numbers anymore. It is a very capable seven-seater with a decent options list. The Sorento has a devout fan base, but its lack of popularity ensures that the Sorento gets only a median score for reliability from consumers polled.
6. Soul
Kia upped the funk when they released the Soul. Its cool factor garnered a cult following and a reasonable amount of them was sold and can be seen regularly on our roads. This can be attributed to how practical it is, an abundance of readily-available service parts, and good after-sales service in general.
7. Cerato
Kia once again took a chance on a sedan and brought us the Cerato and Cerato Koup. These have done very well within the market, but are still sometimes overlooked by buyers casting eyes on VWs and Audis. The only negative reports we received were that parts were somewhat pricey, but consumers reported to be incredibly happy with their Ceratos.
8. Sportage
The Kia Sportage is the go-to mid-size SUV after the Hyundai Tucson. There are many of these available used, and those who own a Sportage have nothing bad to say about them. An abundance of parts and very happy ownership reports means the Sportage is only just pipped to the top of our list by higher volume sellers.
9. Rio
Kia’s C-segment offering has been well accepted by the masses. It has a trendy appearance and is priced competitively. Consumer reports, parts listings, and a clear customer survey report card all indicate that the Rio is proving to be a very reliable car.
10. Picanto
The most reliable KIA is the Kia Picanto for sale – right from the first generation, they’ve proved to be durable and dependable. Very popular, cheap to run, and scoring big in customer satisfaction surveys, the Picanto is the choice for new car buyers, old and young alike.

Used Kia Sorento review
Image 1 of 13 Image 1 of 13 19 Oct, 2017 3:15pm Richard Dredge A full used buyer’s guide on the Kia Sorento covering the Sorento Mk2 (2010-2014) When the original Kia Sorento was launched in 2003, it was ideal for anybody wanting a reliable SUV who put value and reliability ahead of hi-tech kit and a posh badge. It was a bit rough around the edges, and slightly awkwardly styled, but this off-roader attracted an enthusiastic following. By the time the second-generation Sorento arrived in 2010, Kia’s stature had grown markedly; it still wasn’t on par with Volkswagen or Land Rover, but the brand had proven it could build desirable cars. Designed more for road use, the Mk2 Sorento was a smart buy, especially for those keen to tow. Now that the SUV has been superseded, nothing has changed. Models covered • Kia Sorento Mk2 (2010-2014) - SUV stands out with its simplicity, and is a tempting used buy.  Kia Sorento Mk2  Image 3 of 13 Image 3 of 13 History The second-generation Sorento arrived at the start of 2010. Buyers could choose between 2.4-litre petrol and 194bhp 2.2-litre diesel engines, the latter coming with either a manual or auto gearbox and front or four-wheel drive. Trim choices comprised 1, KX-1, KX-2 and KX-3, with the KX prefix denoting the fitment of four-wheel drive. By spring 2011 there was a 147bhp 2.0 CRDi engine option with front-wheel drive. In August 2012 a revised Sorento arrived with four-wheel drive only. More efficient engines, tweaked suspension, improved refinement, extra standard equipment and refreshed exterior styling featured. A range-topping KX-4 version was also added, bringing Park Assist, electrically adjustable front seats and 19-inch wheels.  Kia Sorento Mk2 reviews Kia Sorento in-depth reviewKia Sorento 1 2.0 CRDi reviewKia Sorento KX-2 2.2 CRDi reviewKia Sorento KX-3 2.2 CRDi review Which one should I buy? Kia has a tendency to keep things simple with its model ranges, and slow sales for the cheaper variants meant the line-up was quickly simplified even further. Image 2 of 13 Image 2 of 13 By the time the Sorento was facelifted in autumn 2012, the 2.0 CRDi and 2.4 petrol engines and 1 trim level had gone, so you’re likely to be buying a 2.2 CRDi with four-wheel drive and a manual or auto gearbox. Entry-level Sorentos had alloy wheels (including a full-size spare), electrically adjustable heated door mirrors, air-con and a six-speaker hi-fi. KX-2 spec adds privacy glass, leather, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, folding door mirrors and cruise control, while the KX-3 features xenon headlights and a panoramic sunroof. Alternatives to the Kia Sorento Mk2 Budget seven-seater road-biased SUVs aren’t all that common. If seven seats are key, you can consider the more agricultural Mitsubishi Shogun or Toyota Land Cruiser, while the pricier Land Rover Discovery is the most accomplished all-rounder, but doesn’t have the reliability of the Kia. The VW Touareg is excellent with its six-cylinder diesel engine, especially if you’re towing, but can be costly to buy and run. Image 5 of 13 Image 5 of 13 You could also consider the Hyundai Santa Fe, which is related to the Kia and shares many of its attributes, including a very good reliability record, affordable purchase prices and relatively low running costs thanks to its sheer dependability.  What to look out for:  Spare wheel The spare wheel sits underneath the car, but it’s easily stolen, so ensure it’s there before buying. Anti-theft devices are available.  Rust on roof Check the leading edge of the roof, which can suffer from corrosion – especially if a replacement windscreen has been fitted.  Tyre wear Uneven tyre wear isn’t unusual with the Sorento, although many owners still find they can get around 30,000 miles from the original set of rubber.  Rear seats The third row of seats is fine for children and small adults, but it’s not much use for six-footers on long journeys. Image 6 of 13 Image 6 of 13 Interior Fit and finish is good, but this Kia doesn’t have a premium feel. While it’s roomy, the car is best viewed as a 5+2-seater, with the third row for children. You get a 60:40-split rear seat and adjustable height driver’s seat. Boot space stands at just 111 litres with all the seats in place, or 1,546 litres with row three folded. Running costs All facelifted (post-2012) Sorentos need to be serviced every 12 months or 20,000 miles, but earlier petrol cars cut this to every 10,000 miles; on diesels it’s 12,500 miles. Checks alternate between minor and major, which are generally priced at around £259 and £319 respectively, but sometimes the bill will be higher if there’s something extra to replace. For example, the coolant needs to be renewed every five years or 62,500 miles and the brake fluid has to be replaced every other year, but the cost of doing this is built into the price of the service. All Sorento engines are chain-driven, so you don’t need to worry about replacing any cambelts.  Recalls  Kia doesn’t tend to issue many recalls, and the Sorento has been called back just twice in its seven years on sale. Image 7 of 13 Image 7 of 13 The first time was in June 2013, relating to cars built up to the end of April 2011. This concerned a brake light switch fault, potentially leading to ESP, cruise control and gear selection issues on autos. It also affected the Soul, Sportage, Optima, Carens and Sedona; over 40,000 cars were recalled. Then, last month, Kia called back 24 Sorento 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesels built from 1 September to 31 October 2011 because of the risk of the fuel feed hose deteriorating. Driver Power owner satisfaction The Mk2 Sorento has never appeared in our Driver Power satisfaction survey, but the Mk3 ranked in a very respectable 32nd place in last year’s poll. Across all three generations, Sorento owners score their cars an average of 4.2 out of five (84 per cent) on our sister site, Carbuyer; most Mk2 drivers rate theirs between four and five stars. The Sorento isn’t the most sophisticated car around, but there’s still plenty to like about it. Although the model range isn’t wide, the 2.2-litre diesel fitted to virtually all second-generation Sorentos is strong and frugal; it’s just beaten on refinement by many rivals, especially those with a V6 engine. Buy one of the last Mk2s made and it’ll come with five years’ warranty still to run – which is two years more than most new cars offer. Some rivals are more accomplished, but you’ll pay thousands more for those. Kia competes where it matters: providing tough, reliable, practical and affordable transport.

ATL's KIA moment
New Post has been published on http://goodnewsjamaica.com/business/atls-kia-moment/
ATL's KIA moment
IN preparation for its role as authorised dealer of KIA, earlier this week, ATL Automotive received a huge fleet of the world-leading South Korean-made vehicles.
“We are taking pre-orders for delivery on our opening on March 1 at our Kingston and Montego Bay showrooms,” Chris DaCosta, KIA’s head of business at ATL Automotive, told Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine yesterday.
In September, ATL Automotive made the announcement that it would be adding the South Korean brand to its suite of offerings under a newly created subdivision dubbed ATL Tiger Automotive. The showrooms would be at its Oxford Road office in Kingston and Bogue City Centre facility in Montego Bay. The KIA dealership was previously held by Corporate Area businessman Dwight Moore.
DaCosta said he is expecting great things locally from the widely respected brand.
“It has a diverse product line-up that will appeal to a wide spectrum of people. As a brand, it wins awards for everything from design and quality to performance and reliability. In fact, it was a Most Awarded Brand by Kelley Blue Book last year — all at an exceptional price point. Wherever you go in the world, you’ll see that KIA is right up there in terms of sales and reputation. We expect no different from our market,” he said.
“In terms of reliability, KIA has won the JD Power Initial Quality Survey for two years on the spin. And we’ll hold a huge stock of parts at all times and have already forged a partnership with KIA’s exclusive parts facility in Florida to ensure we have all the parts our customers need, when they need them. The close proximity of Florida will mean we’ll always have very fast access to whatever parts we need,” he continued.
With regards to the models, KIA’s head of business said ATL Automotive will be carrying the “full range” of vehicles. This includes: the micro hatchback; the Picanto; sedans in the five-door Rio and the four-door Cerato and Optima; the subcompact crossover; the Soul; the compact SUV; the Sportage; the midsize seven-seater SUV Sorento; as well as the midsize, seven-seater MPV the Carens.
“We will also be carrying the full-size MPV Carnival in both eight- and 11-seats, the versatile K Truck, and last but certainly not least, the amazing fully loaded Grand Touring Stinger in two versions — the 2.2L, 255hp and the 3.3L 365hp. We certainly expect great things from the two SUVs on offer: the Sportage and the Sorento,” he said.
DaCosta said customers who choose a KIA would be getting value for their money and a very safe vehicle.
“Considering the high level of quality, design and technology you get with a KIA, the price point is exceptional. We expect to be extremely competitive and will offer some of the most affordable passenger cars in the country. We’ve always said that Jamaica deserves better and we’ll be certainly looking to challenge the norm with KIA. KIA will just be your best option,” he said.
“KIA’s world-class line-up continues to earn quality, reliability and safety awards at an increasing rate, and only recently the Soul and Sportage received the highest marks in the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus ratings, as did the Optima and Sorento before them. This is a reflection of KIA’s continuous improvement and effort to improve all aspects of safety,” he continued.
Headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, KIA began as Kyungsung Precision Industry in December 1944. It is South Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer after Hyundai Motor Company, which owns a 33.88 per cent stake. Its US$1-billion Mexican manufacturing plant produces 300,000 cars per year.
In addition to sedans and SUVs, KIA also produces military vehicles with variants and other transportation equipment.
“Like most other countries you’ll visit in the world, we expect KIA to become one of the leading brands in Jamaica in a very short space of time on every level. Given the quality of the cars themselves, the price point, the exciting reaction of the public since we announced we were assuming control, that’s very realistic. Our mantra has always been that if the ‘norm isn’t good enough, we’ll challenge it’ and so we’re looking for KIA to become the number one car brand in Jamaica within five years,” DaCosta added.
In addition to KIA, ATL Automotive is the authorised dealer for Honda, BMW, MINI, Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche.

As well as it even worse nonetheless, should you should punch it uphill or from a busy T-junction.
