It's been a few years since the first time he made a move.

Megumi had always been a pretty stoic guy. From the first day your parents introduced the two of you all the way until now, his demeanor publically had always remained much of the same. In private though, he let you see parts of him that you never would've guessed were there.

One night, your late-night studying and working and movie watching turned into soft kisses under your fairy lights. Then, eventually, it turned into more.

The flood of despair that crept into your bones every time that he left your bedroom has yet to stop, still even at your age, no matter how many times you've allowed him into both yourself and your space. But still, night after night he would enter your room, not always for sex but often for something, and you would accept him with open arms every time.

You don't flinch anymore when you hear a soft knock at your door in the late hours of the weekday evening anymore, knowing immediately who the visitor would be. The soft rasps of his knuckles tapping in beats of three against thick mahogany wood mimicking that of your fluttering heartbeat.

You don't have to get up from your desk chair to let him in, instead, you allow him to enter on his own as he always does. You say little when he crosses the space between you in your bedroom, coming up behind you where you're sat on your computer. Your parents had become that couple in their forties that vacationed constantly as soon as you'd walked across your graduation stage and officially gained the badge of "adult." You both stayed home during university, commuting instead of shelling out money on separate places, and continued your trists under the security of the two adults rarely being home.

Most nights you didn't have to sneak around much these days, but there was something about the thrill when you did. It made you feel... grey to admit that it turned you on even more, but you couldn't help it. Having him all to yourself in secret was the best thing you could've ever asked for as you accepted your new life with this family.

UM hi??? this is my favorite question i've ever gotten. thank you for asking ଘ(੭ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ✩

so, i'm a sap. following characters that are really angsty and shitty and mean and maybe abusive even... not really my thing. i love reading it, but im not awesome at sticking to that kind of characterization (yet) with my main cast of characters. so in this fic, being a modern au, i'm playing around with the characters personalities a little and reimagining their backstories to fit a non-jujutsu society. so, they're — in my opinon — themselves... but like... 20% ooc since im writing them in a curseless society.

i think i've made the biggest changes with sukuna, probably, since i could not keep up with having to write him the same way he's depicted in the canon. besides, if you take away the king of curses aspect, i dont think his character would actually be that dark tbh, at least in the type of au i'm making.

[more below the cut <3] the fic we're taking about is: this one ~

i think a non-curse version of him would be a laid-back, flirtatious, occasionally flamboyant (in the literal sense) kind of guy but he'd still be pretty serious and protective and domineering and irritable at times. he's the type of person i'd imagine rolls his eyes a lot. like, he'll do the thing you're asking him to do, but he'd make a stink about it because he's a little dramatic. he's portrayed as really self serving and sneaky in the manga so my take on that is that he is still self-serving, with alot of secrets, but his selfish nature extends to his friends and family and includes them in his motives for his behavior, he's not working against them but out of very thinly veiled love for them. also, i imagine him to visually normally have a kind of corpse husband aesthetic going on lmao.

he's a bouncer in my story, so he's protective but i imagine that he mainly enjoys his job because of the self-satisfaction that comes with knowing that he's strong enough to help. in relation to how i think his dynamic with megumi will be — i think it'll be similar to their relationship dynamic in the manga, except everyone's aged up so they're both adults and figuring things out in the adult human, abo, world. sukuna sees megumi's potential but internally understands that he hasn't realized it yet, so he's still there to help him and watch him progress and interject when he sees that a threat coming into megumi's life has the potential to derail his potential too much for him to come back from it.

speaking of megumi, i don't see him as a damsel in distress sort of character, i just think he has a lot of room to grow and progress to make and he, luckily, has people in his life that want to keep him locked onto that path. he just needs to dance long enough to graduate and start a life for himself that doesn't involve the club, tbh. that's his goal, but fast money and lots of drugs and the long nights and the club environment are all addictive, even if he doesn't really love it. it's still something he's become accustomed to and has a sort of love for, which is a little bit of a contrast to the yuuji that im building up.

yuuji knows that he wants to be the best at something, but he's just a little lost and misguided atm. no family really — besides sukuna (who i made his cousin instead of his brother cause... why not lol, less pressure for loyalty and for sukuna to have to take care of him i guess), and even then he's not the most involved in yuuji's life besides literally physically being there in the club to watch out for him, so he's still never really had anyone who's ever tried to get him to be more in life. they're a survivor kind of family unit, not go-getters. i imagine that gojo (whos also a swer in this au) did try to fill in the gaps left in yuuji's life role model wise by helping him acclimate to the club enviornment. so, he's still not in the best of life circumstances that he could be in but he's doing okay underneath gojo's wing.

im making yuuji be a swer full time and he'll be debating on if school is the move for him, or if he just needs to shoot for a career or whatever. the society i'm building is definitely more focused on family building and keeping the population steady, so unless your career in this universe is something STEM, just like irl, then it's kinda hard to find your place, cause it's expensive as hell to fund your own way through school or training programs or whatever when you don't come from money, and yuuji will have some extra burdens working against him in this that lead him into the sw life.

he's just a little lost boy who wants to find his purpose and live a life he can die proud of. which is where nanami will be coming into the fray soon. not to like... tell him what to do, but to show him that he has other potential routes of life within his ability to do & succeed in (like... *cough cough* sports). whereas characters like mei mei — who i've mentioned in yuuji's first chapter but haven't detailed her like... purpose in this story yet — will try to lure him deeper into the more unsavory parts of the underground s*x work life that gojo will have tried to keep him aware and away from. i mean, i'm loosely setting this in america so he'll have medical bills out the ass from his grandpa and not very much money left from his parents so my baby has to figure out something.

gojo will be in a similar mental space as yuuji, frankly. he's been a swer for the better part of a decade now, started at seventeen (cause his family had sorta groomed him into it, since they were a notorious drug and prostitution empire family) — i say, right after i just said i don't really do angst sjskjsks — so all he's ever really known is the sw life and he does it well. but, he wants to make his own path outside of his family, cause they're domineering as fuck and he's not with that shit.

he's a mentor of sorts for megumi, and yuuji, and other background characters i'll be adding to the fray soon. i imagine that he met megumi at a young age since the gojo in my au is about twenty-nine currently, and megumi's twenty-one, so they would've met at 21 and 13. i am modeling their relationship similarly to the source material so i think you might be able to guess how it is that gojo and megumi end up even meeting given gojo's family circumstances. but still, i think gojo would have been the one pushing him to keep up with his schooling and pursuing higher ed, even though gojo himself is committed to the sw life. he's still sweet and goofy and cocky and "the strongest" so it'll be fun playing with his canon personality dynamics in a non-jujutsu au, and seeing how his dynamic plays out with what he wants out of life and with (or without?? hehehe) suguru.

honorable mentions: maki and nobara will have personalities similar to their canon except now they're explicitly very gay. i played up nobara's "lowkey" caring side, since we see in the source material that she's a very caring, wide-eyed, excitable person even if she puts up a front and can be a hard ass sometimes. maki's characterization will be something i play with a little more. im excited to explore her dominatrix career stuff (either through dialogue she has w the main characters OR i might do a "every xyz chapters we get a maki or nobara pov" sort of deal, i think that'd be fun).

the chapter im posting later today intros some more fun side characters and plays w their characterization a bit too so i hope you enjoy that. sorry i made this so long snksjsks i just have so many ideas and passion and excitement towards this series. i wish my body would cooperate with me and not be so damn tired constantly lately. *sigh* lmao but thank you for the ask and thank you for reading!!

ah!!! you're the first person to come actually say hi on tumblr from my ao3 lmao. and for that dear anon, i'll run down the relationships for you ~ for my tumblr peeps, im currently writing an ao3-only sex work A/B/O fic for jjk. if you wanna read that it's ongoing and posted: here ~

so, nonnie, i think you might've caught it already but megumi + sukuna are ship #1 for this fic. megumi is a dancer, sukuna is a bouncer at his club. obvi sukuna and yuuji are separate people here so they're both doing their own things. megs is in the tail end of college w yuuji & nobara and sukuna is only few years older (not 1000+ lmao).

yuuji's intro chapter will be the next one (then gojo's after that, then it'll be an interwoven pov story going forward). yuuji is a dancer as well but has moved into doing camming. nanami meets him through that. i'll leave that at that to not ruin the suspense too much.

gojo is a veteran dancer turned pornstar/sex content creator (onlyfans, amateur self-shot PH videos, etc), suguru will be paired with him but their dynamic will be a little complex, not just boyfriends being boyfriends. suguru is the owner of the club all the boys work at, & he dabbles in other illegal activities.

main side pairing will be nobamaki, and some of other characters will be sprinkled around in there too. not 100% sure on how deep i'll make the angst but there's gonna be at least a little ㅋㅋㅋ can't have an au about sex workers and not have a least a little drama (coming from an ex-sex worker lmao).

because my emotions are pretty high right now and i don’t want to publicly support either side at the moment. especially because i’m relatively new to this community and went into this not fully understanding the issue.

i do stand by what i said though! you should critically look at both sides of any argument. however, after thinking about it, i realized that i was doing exactly what i said y’all shouldn’t by running to reblog asellus' post (because we are mutuals and i’ve gotten to know her a lot in more than one discord server) so i shared my "see both sides" message only through her post, which wasn't fair.

i didn’t really give chicoree’s post enough thought because i wanted to believe very badly that this person (asellus) that i’ve spent a good amount of time talking to is not capable of that. but, not fully hearing chicoree out makes me a bit of a hypocrite.

so, i’m not saying that i don’t believe asellus, or that i think ven is lying necessarily, ijs that i don’t think i’m knowledgeable enough about this to have an opinion. from what i know of asellus, this sounds kinda far-fetched to me, but we are all strangers on the internet at the end of the day and these accusations are heavy so… not giving myself time to think about it wouldn’t be fair. at the end of the day none of us really know each other or each other's intentions on here.

bottom line, y’all should not be looking at me as the authority on how to feel about this lmao. i don’t know what i think myself so… read both of their posts and decide how you feel on your own.

not everyone is trying to write a southern accent tho. like you mention the miya twins in your post but neither of them r from the american south so...idk saying it sounds wrong to the person w the accent doesnt rlly make sense

well yeah ofc the miyas aren't american southern, but they are portrayed to have a kansai dialect which is a more "country" sounding japanese accent, so english speakers mimicking their accent in writing does mimick a more american southern accent... since the writing is in english, not japanese. does that make sense? idk lol

maybe im wrong tho. i'm honestly very curious what accent stuff like "yer" and "fixin'" is supposed to be imitating if not a southern-ish accent. is there an accent like that in another english speaking country? if so i've never heard it but would like to know what its supposed to sound like (/g)

edit: just adding that again, its not that deep lol. the main takeaway i want from this is that you can add uniqueness to dialogue without messing with the actual dialogue and that screen readers cant understand what your characters are saying when you spell out accents like that

writing out the accents in fics isnt abt not trusting the reader to 'do the mental work'. it's just a writing choice to add distinctiveness to the character. idk it rlly isn't that big of a deal

no no i totally understand that... however... 1. it doesn't sound right, coming from someone with the accent, 2. again, you can easily indicate a characters speech patterns outside of the dialogue itself, and 3. it's literal hell trying to understand what the character is saying for people who use screen readers. i have literally had to take my friend's phone out of her hand and just read the fic to her myself because her screen reader went insane tripping over all the misspellings. i totally respect style choices and get why the dialogue itself may seem like the best place to show off a character's distinctive traits, but you don't have to literally spell the words out wrong to indicate an accent/specific speech pattern.

its really not that deep lol i didn't intend to make it sound like i was like bothered by this. ijs cause i see it sooo often and i've never understood why writers here do that, and i only see it happen with southern accents specifically too which is so strange (/lh). it's just... an interesting choice imo. dont hate it dont love it, mostly just didnt understand why ppl do it
