Leopard drinking at waterhole - yes, he disturbed our dinner! We could not imagine staying in the parks and not photographing after the sun goes down! We have photographed lions, leopards, cheetah, caracal, porcupine, African wild cat, genets, bush babies, civet, owls and more, mostly from the camps, what we call the ‘Sofa Safari’. The issue of using spotlights and flashes can be a hotly debated one but I think it’s like anything else, some people will abuse the item while others will use it responsibly. I think these comments from @BrendonCremer sum up the situation nicely… “In recent months we have once again seen photographers come into the firing line on social media platforms regarding what some people see as unethical / conservation issues which are completely unfounded statements or are rather based on personal opinion rather than based on fact. Happy New Year Everyone! We yawn not only when we’re tired but also when we’re bored or hungry and before competing in sports. So what does this have to do with the start of a new year? Maimonides gives us a clue in his Laws of Repentance, Chapter 3, Law 4: Even though the sounding of the shofar on Rosh HaShanah is a decree, it contains an allusion. It is as if [the shofar's call] is saying: Wake up, sleepy ones, from your sleep! And arise, all who slumber! Inspect your deeds, repent, remember your Creator! In other words, the shofar is a kind of alarm clock that readies us to shift gears, prepare for change and reorganize our priorities. In over 25 years of us visiting the parks we have just 1 sighting of leopards mating, 8 honey badger sightings and about 10 sightings of sable antelope. Geoff got all three on one trip...! The famous LubyeLubye rocks at Lubye Lubye bridge near Lower Sabie camp. We have seen both a leopard and pride of lions on these rocks. We spotted the leopard over a kilometer away from the bridge, heading towards Lower Sabie camp, with a lot of cars following him. We decided to get away from the traffic jam and wait on the bridge as we knew these rocks are a hotspot for leopards. Our gamble paid off as the leopard appeared on the rocks about 20 minutes later.
