Lawnia taste testing sweets (mini-fic)

A tall glass of milk and a cup of of tea sat in front of the computers that dimly lit the large room. Dark eyes gazed over the plates of sweets, a pair of small fingers reached over to grab a vanilla bean macaroon, as a much larger index finger and thumb grazed over a red velvet cupcake, indecisive to which he will choose.

“The lemon macaroon is distasteful.” The albino scrunched his face at the yellow cookies, pushing them aside. “The filling has a hint of sourness, which overcomes with a slight bitterness.” L took note to the others opinion, ignoring the acidic macaroon.“The raspberry macaroons jelly is sour, and the seeds ruin the taste.” The boy went on, before taking a small bite out of his favorite flavor.

“Vanilla bean, however,” he gave a small smile at the lovely taste, “is magnificent.” L was well aware of Near’s tastes, the little detective favored vanilla and requested such sweets during work, or more specifically, vanilla bean macaroons. Near enjoyed both the texture and flavor of his well beloved cookies.

L hummed, “how about the coffee?” He raised the coffee flavored sweet to Near’s mouth, watching how the boy dead panned at him.

“You know I dislike coffee.”

“Worth a shot.” L shrugged, pressing it against his successors lips.

Near pouted at his persistence, slowly opening his mouth to take a small bite.

“You can take a bigger bite than that.” His mentor teased, an amused smile spread across his face as he watched Near grimace at the taste. The little detectives reactions were always a wonder for L to watch, in fact, he found it very fascinating.

L knew everything about Near, unraveling the puzzle that stood in front of him many months ago. The only piece left were those insightful expressions, the little twitches he displayed whenever he was angry, or how he aggressively twirled and tugged his hair when irritated.

It was one of the many things L loved about Nate.

“It’s disgusting.” Near huffed, turning his face away from the so-called disgusting treat.

“You still tried it, which is what matters.” L praised. This was a taste test after all.

The younger one shrugged, going back to choose another sweet he favored, lacing his fingers around a white chocolate cupcake. White chocolate. Mello had always told him that overly sweet type was an insult to all of chocolate. Near could agree, but sometimes he found that it paired with vanilla wonderfully.

L had chosen a slice of chocolate cake, it was layered with a dark chocolate buttercream, and decorated with shavings of milk chocolate.

The two were fixated on their treats, finishing in a timely manner, to ensure no tummy aches.

“You have chocolate on your face.” Near commented, amused by his lovers childish way of eating. Though, they both knew all too well that the albino himself was no better.

“As do you.” L spoke with his mouth full of the last bite of the delicious sweetness.

Near leaned in, bringing a thumb to the corner of his mentors lips, ignoring the rest of the mess that lied on the man’s chin and cheeks. “You mustn’t lack table manners.” The boy spoke in hypocrisy.

L chuckled, his long fingers snuck their way to Nate’s face, brushing a lock of white behind his ear.

“Likewise.”
