ALSO the argument of ‘other games have better lore’ (pathfinder being the example I saw used here) is like, regardless of if you agree about the lore or not, it’s funny to me because it’s like do you all realize you can use the mechanics of dnd and then make your own lore stuff and/or mix and match lore from other games? The whole point of dnd is that you can do your own thing you know? I see it as a tool that allows you to build a story on top of it. And you can even mess with that tool as needed! So yeah that particular argument doesn’t stand up for me at all

#dnd #i use a pathfinder goddess for my dnd character in the CoS campaign I play in #and said campaign even though it's a module is something that my dm modifies heavily and does his own thing with #because dnd is versatile if you want it to be! #that's the point! #anyway sorry for being randomly annoyed about this tonight #like yeah boycott dnd beyond and other wotc stuff etc (i've been pirating their books and such for years anyway dfghj) #but like dnd as a system is something you build on top of #to me anyway #and it's not like you have to stick to modules and stuff? #idk so much of what i see people saying is stuff that i feel like comes from people who just use dnd in a very different way than I do #which is fine #but people are being really annoying about this #i like dnd as a system and i don't think condescending posts that treat people who want to stick with dnd like stubborn babies who are #stuck in their ways and need to try grownup food #are at all cute #and again dnd is what you make of it and i use the rules and mechanics and some of the lore and such stuff as something to play with #and build on/modify etc. #and a lot of the wording on people's posts and such about this does not seem to get that or take it into account #whatever #i just really hate the 'dnd is shitty anyway and you should try better grownup games you babies' take to be super annoying
