#nightmare.personal #his post regarding it is deleted so i hope he has changed his mind but #man. you have GOT to understand the harm KOSA is going to do #when will people stop looking at censorship as something where you can throw exceptions at it #and expect it to work #if you give them the power to make the internet safer then you give them to power to make the internet more unsafe #& if you look at our cultural context... well. you have three guesses to figure out which it's going to fucking be #it's ALWAYS 'oh we shouldn't censor... EXCEPT' and 'oh this is illegal... EXCEPT' #how are the people going to find out they're exceptions? how broad are these exceptions going to go? #i know playing with absolutes is a dangerous game and censorship is CONTENTIOUS on this site #but holy shit i am begging these people-- begging this man really-- to realize what we're working with here #i have been irreparably scarred by the internet but the terrifying thing about it is #the places that scarred me looked alike to the places that healed me #overwhelmingly queer spaces in both conditions #and so i can sympathize with the terror but also you cannot strike out what hurt me without effectively taking out #what has gotten me this far. that's not something we can do as people. #i wouldn't trust myself with that #and i most certainly would not trust the government.
