Mary Natasha’s Post
Good morning, Today I'm rejoicing because our heater is back ON! The man from the heating and cooling co came last evening and fixed this - it only took a fuse, would you believe? That we had no heat for a long while. I am glad - the dog was shivering a lot and the poor kitty boy wasn't happy. The poor kitty girl was not anywhere and finally yesterday I got to my bedroom and she was curled up next to my pillow looking sad. She was so unhappy looking. The dog jumped up on the bed and tried to nuzzle her and she was not a happy camper. I tried to tell the dog to stop and so he did. I took a little nap for a while but she was ok. I am glad that she is warmer now and so with the kitty boy. The dog is somewhere in the house (I hear him patter around). So today's outfit is my orange and fuschia (border) zip neck sweater that I bought a while ago from Title9 sports. I think orange is a good shade to wear. I have another cardi that is from Talbots and it is a great thing to wear over a white crisp shirt - the problem I had with it was that its sleeves were a tad too long. But that is not a difficult thing to fix - I'd push up the sleeves and let the white cuffs show. It's one of the fashion tricks that I learned from reading Vogue when I was a young college kid. Orange is something that will go with a lot of colours. There's orange and black, or orange and white or orange and linen. It will make your outfit 'pop' and give you some sort of confidence. Some woman at work once complained about wearing orange. On her it wouldn't work, lol. I think if you don't have a lot of fashion sense orange could be a problem. I wouldn't wear an all over orange dress, for example. I'd put an orange top with neutral coordinates for one thing. Or a splash of an orange scarf around your neck. I used to subscribe to Vogue magazine for years. That was when Diana Vreeland was their Chief. I enjoyed the articles and they made sense to me. Their fashion was quite good. The models were the famous ones like Cindy and her friends. Calvin Klein was a big one then. And DKNY as well. I also thought that lesser known fashion designers made sense to me. Jil Sander was a big favorite. I thought that Demelmeuster was interesting. So was McQueen and he has great intricate designs but he does tend to be a bit bigger than life. I read a lot about the 'ladies of NY who lunched'. Once I walked the avenues of NYC in the winter when I was at Sloan Kettering Institute - to and from my lab where I was a researcher. My coworker and I agreed to meet at a talk given by a famous runner. (We wanted to go for a 5K given by the L'Eggs company one time). I had an issue of Vogue folded up inside my Coach bag. I really liked my Vogue then. I wasn't much into Vogue after they started putting movie stars and politicians on the cover. I don't know about you but I'd rather not see anyone who could be a negative influence on me or my kids on the cover of Vogue. I think that as a fashion magazine Vogue ought to focus more on women's fashion and women's issues. Politics and movies tend to cloud things and if you look at a cover model who's not really your type of person to watch in a movie you'd be turned off, wouldn't you? I don't know about you but someone like Oprah who had to lose a lot of weight just to get on the cover of Vogue makes her look kind of sad. I know she's gained some weight back and well, I am now wondering whether being fat isn't that bad after all. I'm not a slim person but I tend to be on the plump side. I was happier when I had more weight on me than when I was trying to chase after some dream weight that I targeted as 130 lbs. I went on WW and lost 20 lbs slowly and then gained more back after sometime. Then I tried something like a high fat and low carb diet by a MD clinic and well that wasn't a good idea. I became a member of MyFitnessPal for a while. Then that started to get boring. I got tired of seeing my fat and carb and protein for each day. I think while I was on myfitnesspal it wasn't doing me any good. I think by then my weight and me had to come to an understanding that I needed to be comfortable with myself. if some guy thinks that I ought to be slim for him to date me, then I think that's a bit shallow, don't you agree? I mean, when I was on WW I started to lose my hair and it got thin. My Mom even remarked once OMG you're getting bald!!!! I hate my Mom now. I decided after trying Rogaine and getting on the brink of taking some Rx med that was making male patients get breast cancer, I had to ditch the idea of trying to keep my hair loss from happening. I was fortunate then that I was a part of a Franciscan group that followed St Francis of Assisi. Those monks and priests had a bald spot on their heads (it's like their signature) and so I decided that if I had to be bald on some part of my head that Francis would be happy with me. So I told this to my therapist (who also wore a wig he was a secret bald guy) and I told him I couldn't care less if I had a thin spot on my head. I think we women are given so many signals in our lives to be slim, to be rich, and to so much in the fashion that it all will get us to some sort of heavenly relationship or place or home. is that really true? I'm not rich or slim or even that young - these signals on ads and media they sell well but I think the people who are selling these are the ones that are paid well. I'm glad my SO doesn't give a damn about weight and hair loss. He's really dishy but I don't think a lot of women think so. He's not into a lot of this sort of fashion things but he can clean up well if needed. LOL.
I think fashion is something we all have to have even while we're in a casual mode. I don't care for flip flops in the office. I don't like capri pants much but if you're an athletic sort those would work. Capri pants could be bad ton for a business environment.
If you ever need to know what would work with what in your closet don't hesitate to message me. I hope you have a great day today!
