I had a vision. What if Monique was a real person? A young teenager who was an orphan all her life in France, just fighting for a way to survive, only for her to find herself adopted in a foreign country by a single mother who couldn’t be around who had a son who was known as the “most romantic” boy in town
I will elaborate further but this idea has been rotting my brain and I needed to say it

TOMORROW! July 11 at 7 a.m. PDT. Can justice work for everyone? We know it often does already. But many times, it's also inequitable, bends to monied interests, is racially biased and is based on archaic theories of reactionism, retribution, punishment, and, supposedly redemption...approaches that rarely work. Let's reinvent justice. Copiosis offers proactive, supportive and unequal justice, but justice that can work for everyone. Join Copiosis founder Perry Gruber, CTO Gheric Speiginer and Chief Political Strategist Christopher Hatton as they explore how Copiosis makes justice work for everyone. This popped up in my brain exactly 0.00013 seconds ago and needs to be expressed:
Ocean: it’s 4 o’clock in the morning, why on Earth are you making chocolate pudding?
Noel: Because we’ve lost control of our lives
Moni: Yeah, keep up, Ocean
*cue the duo not sharing their pudding and Ocean being furious*

I am awake and thus my brain is running and so have this to appease the masses
Moni Gruber was now a giggling, squealing, average teenage girl. And she was alright with that. Because now, she had friends, a family, and the greatest boyfriend ever.
And that was why she was giggling uncontrollably. She was telling the others all about their declarations of love.
“Oh my goodness, it was like a movie,” she was saying excitedly, “He was- ugh I can’t even say it but oh!! I love him so much.”
She hugged herself and giggled excitedly. Constance smiled.
“Aw, you two are adorable together! You’re lucky to have Mason, Mon, he really cares about you.”
Moni smiled sheepishly. Ocean cleared her throat.
“What I’m concerned of is-“
She looked around warily then turned to Moni.
“Did you.. do the deed?”
Moni turned red. “No! Ocean, what the hell?”
Noel and Mischa burst into laughter and Moni covered her face in embarrassment.
“Ozi, why would you even ask that?!”
Ocean shrugged. “Too many teens have sex before marriage, I just wanted to make sure you weren’t ending up burning in hell.”
Penny snickered. “You are so direct, Ocean, oh my God.”
“Do not use the Lord’s name in vain!”
“Oh, shut up, you asshole,” Moni snapped, and the others laughed.
“I almost hit him with the shovel though,” Noel said, directing the attention to him.
“You what-?”
Moni nodded solemnly. “We were kissing in the backyard and he freaked out and grabbed the shovel, if I hadn’t stopped it, Noel would’ve committed a murder.”
Mischa exhaled. “All that, poet? I wouldn’t expected so much from you.”
Noel scowled. “She’s my sister! My little sister.”
“By like three months!”
“You’re still younger and you should be telling me when you kiss a guy!”
“Ugh, you’re mean,” Moni teased, then felt someone hug her from behind.
“Ah!”
Mason bent over and grinned. “Hey, Monini!”
Moni laughed. “Mason!”
She turned around and hugged him. Penny pretended to swoon in Constance’s arms.
“Oh, it’s Mr. And Mrs. Best Couple. Their love and radiance is making me faint!”
Mason laughed. “Nice to see you too, Penny. And Ocean. And Connie. And Mischa. And Rickster! And.. Noel.”
Noel pursed his lips. Even after the events of the last week he still didn’t trust Mason.
“Hi, Mason,” he said coldly. Mason pouted.
“Come on, I thought we bonded last week!”
“I threw a rock at you,” Noel deadpanned, “And tried to kill you with a shovel.”
Mason tsked. “That’s not the point. Come on, we’ve been friends since middle school. What caused this change of heart?”
“He’s just mad his little sister got a boyfriend before him,” Ricky signed. The others laughed and Noel was appalled.
“That is not! Ricky!”
Ricky grinned smugly at Noel’s horrified expression.
“Anyway,” Moni said, turning to Mason, “What’s up?”
Mason smiled. “Nothing, just wanted to see my beautiful girlfriend before Science class. It’s a shame we don’t have any other classes together and you have choir practice after school.”
Moni nodded. “Yeah, it sucks. But I’m glad you’re here now.”
They kissed and the others hooted and hollered like it was the big game and the town favorite was winning.
“Oh my God,” Moni grumbled, “Are you going to be this dramatic every time we interact?”
“Pretty much,” Mischa said, going on his phone to text Talia.
“I mean, nothing really happens in Uranium, and finding out you have a boyfriend is probably the highlight of the month,” Constance said with a shrug.
“Oh, if I could talk I’d be even more dramatic,” Ricky signed, “But alas, I’m resigned to clapping wildly. It’s still fun though.”
Moni rolled her eyes but still managed a smile.
If two years ago you would’ve told Monique Gibeau from the alleyways of Paris that she’d be living in a better town with friends and family and people who cared about her, she would’ve punched your nose and stole your wallet.
But now here she was. Happy and thriving with a family she never wanted to lose.

I wrote this for @worm-on-my-way and them only hehe
Mentions of gore, be wary
“Come on, Moni!!”
Moni shook her head. “I hate rollercoasters, Connie! You guys go ahead, I’ll wait for you.”
The others turned to her. “You sure,” Ricky signed, “We can all go home if you want.”
Moni nodded. “Go! Go, have fun. But before that!”
She held up her phone. “I know you don’t like pictures, Pen, but just this once?”
Penny beamed. “Sure!”
The others grinned and Moni took a picture of the crew. She smiled.
“Go! Have fun! I’ll just be at the concessions getting cotton candy.”
“Ooh, get me and Constance some,” Ocean said. Moni nodded.
They all walked to the Cyclone and Noel turned around to his sister.
“Hey, Mon.”
Monique turned to him. “Mhm?”
He hugged her and she was taken aback. “What’s this for?”
Noel just smiled. “I love you, little sister.”
Moni smiled back. “I love you too, big brother. Now go!”
She hugged him and he ran to meet the others.
Moni smiled and went to get some cotton candy. She sat on a bench and watched the rollercoaster. Watched it race across the track, up to the top, and then she heard the screams.
The odd sounds of metal clashing against itself. The rollercoaster seemed to detach from the rails, falling, falling.
Moni jumped up to her feet and ran.
“It can’t be them. They could still be in line. They might already have had their turn. No, it’s not them. It isn’t them.”
A phone was falling, and Moni caught it before it touched the ground. She froze. She couldn’t be holding Mischa’s phone. Billions of people have this phone.
But the screen flashed to life and Moni’s heart dropped as she saw the picture Mischa would spend hours talking about. Talia’s frozen smile only made her heart pound harder.
She ran. Ran to the now fallen coaster, and found something that made her scream.
The head of a girl, with long brown pigtails and empty lifeless eyes. Moni grabbed Penny’s head and clutched it tightly as she kept going.
Ignoring all the yells, the protests, the warnings, she ran deeper into the accident. The coaster was lying broken, but she didn’t care. She needed to find them.
She needed to find them.
And she did. A pair of crutches, no longer needed, a sign that said “Vote Ocean.” Friendship bracelets shattered to pieces.
Ricky’s body, his legs bent awkwardly, never being used again. Ocean’s red hair mixing grossly with the blood seeping from her skull. Constance’s broken glasses over her unseeing eyes. Mischa’s lifeless broken body, now never able to go back home. A headless body of the girl who painted butterflies in Moni’s room.
Moni fell to the ground and searched. Searched.
And there she found him. Her brother. The only person in the world she could rely on, she could truly trust. His eyes were wide open, unseeing, staring into her soul with no light.
And she cried. Cried, cried, cried.
Her friends, her forever family.
Was no more

Idea idea idea now you’ll hear it too
“Hey, French Canadian!”
Moni turned around. “Who the fuck-?”
Ocean grinned. “That’s you, silly, Uranium’s own French Canadian.”
Moni frowned. “I am not a French Canadian, I’m just French.”
“But you live in Canada,” Ocean pointed out, “You’re a French Canadian.”
Moni glared at her. “Call me that again and I’ll rip out your vocal cords.”
***
“Is that our French Canadian?”
Moni grumbled. “Yes, Constance, for the millionth time today, it’s me.”
Constance handed her a container. “Here, you did so amazingly at your fight I wanted to give this to you.”
Moni opened it and found a cupcake. The topper said: “For our French Canadian badass xo”
Moni rolled her eyes at the name, but still smiled.
“Thanks, Constance. And please stop calling me French Canadian.”
***
Moni grabbed her bag and walked over to the gym. She knew the others would be there waiting for her to start choir practice.
Pushing the door open, she struck a pose.
“It is I, the French Canadian!”
She laughed at her silliness and the others were laughing too.
“She finally got used to it,” Ocean said.
“Yeah, it’s cute that you finally caught on,” Penny said, and Moni shrugged.
“I admit, it’s a silly nickname. But you guys gave it to me so I didn’t have a choice but to follow along.”
“We’re proud of you, French Canadian,” Ricky signed, “Even if it did take four months.”
Mischa wrapped his arm around Moni. “That’s our French Canadian, always taking too long to get the joke.”
“Haha,” Moni grumbled sarcastically.
“Here you go, French Canadian,” Noel said, passing her a box.
She opened it and found a shirt? “Okay, what’s this?”
“Just pull it out,” Constance shouted excitedly.
She pulled it out and it was covered in messages, all from the choir, all talking about their French Canadian.
“You guys are assholes,” Moni said teasingly, “I can’t compete with a signed shirt.”
“And we put in all that effort,” Ricky signed with a frown, “You’re mean, Moni.”
She stuck her tongue at him. “You guys are too sweet. And also annoying. I wouldn’t really have it any other way.”

I'm out of ideas today so have this little drabble
"Moni, what are you doing?"
Moni froze, holding the coffee cup and Redbull can above a thermos.
"Getting my daily caffeine intake," she responded, dumping the contents of both into the thermos. Mason sighed.
"Mon, you're not supposed to be drinking all that before school, your head might explode."
Moni took a sip of her concoction. "Maybe, but I need to stimulate my brain, Mason, it's the only way the voices will leave me alone."
Mason took the thermos. "Moni. No. You need sleep."
"Perhaps," Moni agreed, "But I'm not a person who can follow societal norms and sleep on time."
Mason shook his head and saw Noel walking past.
"Noel, tell your sister she needs to stop consuming her body weight in caffeine."
Noel snorted. "I'm drinking three Monsters and black tea, I can't make Mo-Mo go to sleep early if I can't."
Moni gave him a high five and snatched her thermos back. The Gruber siblings went back to being horrible to their health and Mason just watched in exasperation.

omg I have failed at posting Moni content bc my brain was sad but we're a little better now so leggo
Moni and Mischa, both being foreigners and not having English as their first language, will both be VERY confused by idioms and turns of phrases
Example:
Noel: Ugh, no dice. We can't go out.
Moni: What dice?? Where?
Or:
Connie: I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!
Mischa: WHAT HORSE WHERE?
And my personal favorite:
Penny: We really dodged that bullet, huh guys?
Both Moni and Mischa: WHAT BULLET? Were we being shot? WHAT THE FUCK???

Last one! Last one, I swear I just love these two lovebugs so fricking much 😭
“I think I’m in love with you.”
Moni looked up. “Say that again?”
She saw Mason’s small smile. “I really think I’m in love with you.”
Moni looked off. “Oh, I’ve heard that lie about a million time before.”
Not that she wasn’t happy with his confession, but she didn’t believe it. How could she believe it?
She went back to drawing, not daring to meet his eyes.
“Moni..”
He dragged her name until she finally looked up again.
“What?”
He took her pencil. “Didn’t you hear me?”
She nodded. “I did, I just- I don’t believe you.”
He smiled. “Oh? Why?”
Moni frowned. “I’ve had a life. A life I don’t want to relive. I’ve had men bend over backwards for me to sleep with them. I was stuck in a hellscape for five long years and I can’t go back to that again. I really like you, Mason, I do. But I just don’t believe anyone ever really loves me. I can’t bring myself to think that.”
She took her pencil back from him. “So yeah, that’s why.”
She went back to drawing and Mason sat up. “Monique. Can you stop for five minutes?”
She put her book down. “What is it?”
He pulled her over to him and she flinched, but he just hugged her.
“I’m sorry for the life you lived back in Paris,” he said earnestly, “I don’t know how hard it must’ve been, you were so young and you didn’t deserve the shit you went through. But I just want you to understand. I never want to use you, never want to hurt you, never want to make you feel like you deserve less because you deserve the world. And I want to give it to you!”
Moni didn’t know how to respond. So she didn’t.
“Monique,” Mason continued, “Forget what I said before. I do love you. I love the way you scrunch your nose after a kiss, I love your boundless creativity, I love how your accent sounds, I love your dry wit, your silver and black hair, your beautiful grey eyes. I love you, Moni Gruber. And you need to understand that, I always will.”
Moni sat in silence after his confession. She felt tears, whether of joy or pain or confusion, she couldn’t say.
But oh, she loved him. She loved that man so much.
“Mason, I- I don’t think I can top that declaration of love,” she said slowly. He shrugged sheepishly.
“You don’t have to. I know you love me back. You just have to say it.”
And she kissed him. Kissed him so hard she was worried they’d fall over onto the leaf pile her mother had made.
“I love you,” she said happily, “I love you so much, I always have. And I’m sure I always will.”
He grinned and she kissed him again.
“I love your silly limericks and I love your punctuality and I love your attitude and I love how your hair gets wet when it rains and I love your captivating forest green eyes. I love you, Mason Lovett, I love you so so fricking much.”
And there they were, the two lovestruck teenagers, confessing and kissing until Noel walked in on them and nearly killed Mason for being too personal before Moni told him.
“You two,” Noel said, shaking his head, “I’m gonna go back and pretend I never walked in on you making out.”
“Aw, you’re just jealous that I got into a relationship before you,” Moni teased. Noel threw a rock at her. It missed, gladly.
“Hey, don’t attack her,” Mason retorted, “Moni only speaks the truth.”
Moni smiled. “See, Mason believes me.”
Noel rolled his eyes. “You two are perfect for each other.”

Now for the less angst and more wholesome portion of the lovebugs bc I love those little shits
Everyone knew about Moni and Mason. Their friends, their families, their colleagues.
And yes, it was.. nice. But this feeling of guilt crept into Moni and stuck around with her, a little black cloud no amount of sunshine could get rid of.
It was a rainy Saturday when the cloud consumed her whole. She felt too wrong for Mason, she could hurt him beyond repair, she could do to him what all those other men did to her. And she couldn’t do that. Not to him.
So she’d remove herself from his life. It’s the right thing to do.
“Hey, Mon, you wanna come over to my place?”
Moni looked up and smiled. “Sure! I haven’t met your parents yet.”
Mason shrugged. “Yeah, they’re never around. Always at parties or bingos or betting their lives away. They went to jail a couple times for it so..”
Moni frowned. “You live alone? Really?”
Mason shrugged again. “I’m 18, I’m legally allowed to. And I work like six jobs anyway to pay rent, I manage just fine without them.”
Moni kissed his cheek. “You’re very brave to do that on your own. I couldn’t imagine living like that, but it’s your reality.”
Mason sighed. “Yeah, but anyway. Here.”
He gave her a key and a note. “The address is in the note and this is a spare key to the apartment. I figured you’d rather have one since I trust you with it.”
Moni stared at the little key. “Thanks, Mason.”
She smiled, not entirely real but not entirely forced. How was she going to break the news? She’d probably break his heart.
The thoughts in her brain swirled around like a tornado. Moni walked to Noel’s room and he looked up.
“What’s up?”
Moni sighed. “Tell Mom I’ll be at a friend’s house, I’ve got something to do.”
Noel was confused. “Okay, do you need me to go with you?”
“No! I- I mean, I’ll be fine.”
She grabbed her phone and bag before leaving. This was going to be hard.
She took Mason’s hand and they walked off to his apartment.
“Hey, you okay?”
Moni nodded, smiling faintly. “I’m fine!”
They arrived at the simple, empty apartment.
“This is your place,” Moni asked slightly.
“Yeah,” Mason said sheepishly, “It’s not always this messy.”
Moni shrugged. “It’s fine. It has a lived in feel to it.”
Mason smiled. “Thanks. Hey, you want something to drink?” He grabbed a soda and offered her one.
Moni shrugged again. Mason frowned.
“Are you okay?”
Moni shook her head. “I have something to tell you.”
Mason popped open his soda and nodded. “What’s wrong, Monini?”
Moni took a breath. “I think we should break up,” she said quickly. Mason paused.
“What do you mean, break up?”
Moni’s hands started shaking. “Look, Mason, don’t get me wrong, I love you and I love being with you. I do. I just- I don’t want you to ever think you need to fix me or save me.”
She sighed. “I don’t want my past ruining what could be something amazing. I don’t want to hurt you the way I’ve been hurt, so the best way to do that.. is to let you go.”
Mason frowned. “What makes you think that, Moni?”
Moni shrugged. “You know my past, you know how bad it got. I don’t want to relapse and hurt you, you’re the greatest person I’ve ever met and- I think it would be better if we ended this. While we still can.”
Mason took Moni’s hand. “Moni. I’m not breaking up with you. And you’re not leaving, you can’t. You’d be too heartbroken to live and then you’d probably kill yourself and I can’t have you killing yourself, I love you too much for that.”
She rolled her eyes. “Mason, please-“
He grabbed her face. “Monique. Listen.”
And she did.
“I don’t want any other pair of eyes looking at me the way you do. I don’t want any other hands in my hair because yours are the perfect pair. You, Monique Gruber, are not leaving because I’m your boyfriend. I’m supposed to help you feel like you can be vulnerable, you can let go of your trauma. I’d gladly get hurt by your hands over and over if I knew you were going to come back and love me the way I always love you.”
Moni sniffled. “You asshole. I love you so much.”
Mason grinned. “I love you too, you little bitch.”
She pulled him in for a kiss and it cemented something, it made her feel like she was worthy of someone else’s love.
Moni took Mason’s hand and they started dancing in the middle of the hallway. They did that a lot, dancing whenever the feeling struck them.
“Don’t ever think for a second you aren’t worth a healthy relationship, Moni,” Mason said earnestly, “You’re worth the world.”
