RELATIONSHIP TO GREER: childhood friend. freddie was probably the only one out of his friends who didn't have a crush on greer when they were growing up. no one believed it, though. all the hair pulling, throwing mud on her new white shoes, disapproving of everyone she dated. he was the guy all of her boyfriends hated, and she was the girl he told his girlfriends not to worry about. everyone was waiting for his confession, but it never came. instead, what had developed, was something more of a fragile co-dependency -- a friendship built on understanding, spite and control -- where it was less hateful than family but more binding than friends.

PLEASE EXPAND ON HOW THEY EMBODY THEIR SKELETON TROPE. the miscreant. it's the classic troubled child star story, with parents who exploited him from a young age and threw him into an environment where he could only learn from the worst. his ruined reputation precedes him. he's selfish, unruly and unstable. he's inconsiderate of other people's feelings and prioritises what will give him instant gratification. his drug abuse, of which he has been to rehab for three times now, only makes things worse. having emancipated from his parents and being blacklisted from hollywood, he's resorted to illicit means in trying to keep his name in the spotlight. try as he might, if he's going down, he's not afraid to drag everyone down with him.

BACKGROUND:

dad is a violent alcoholic hollywood exec who married a failed actress who is half is age. he got their maid pregnant, and she decided to stay with him and raise the child as their own, not out of the goodness of her heart or true love but because she's a natural social climber. it also gave her an excuse to run back to hollywood.

from a young age, he was put to work. taken to all the events and parties, left to his own devices as his mom mingled and tried to worm her way back into the golden circles.

but it was worse at home. his dad wasn't a pleasant man to be around. if freddie complained, his parents reminded him that he had to earn his spot in the family. and so, earn he did.

photoshoots, commercials, tv shows and then, eventually, the big movie franchise that would bring the kind of fame his mom had always wanted. he was everywhere.

he was happy, because it made his mom happy, and he thought this kind of attention was love. but with every move of his documented and criticised, he started to lash out.

he was drinking and doing drugs as a young teenager, no one was around to tell him it was wrong, and even if there were, he wouldn't have stopped. it was the only way he could handle the pressure.

by the time the final instalment of the movie franchise was starting to film, freddie had secretly been to rehab once, been arrested on a charge of assault for attacking paparazzi, and was causing issues on set as he returned to old habits.

after he was done shooting the last film, but before it was released, he takes his parents to court, wanting control of his own earnings. the film bombs and he's drowning in scandals: more arrests, law suits, cheating on america's sweetheart, also his co-star.

eventually, he gets what he wants but he's on his own. his parents blacklist him from hollywood, he's dropped from all projects and is deemed unemployable. his reputation is ruined. there's nothing left for him.

ogden was greer's idea. she'd be able to keep an eye on him, he'd be surrounded by his friends, true friends that know the real him. but college was not the right place for a boy with addiction.

his time at ogden was filled with more benders, antagonising people, and of course, like every icky white man, becoming a dj. he opened a club, giving space for people to be the worst versions of themselves.

then, greer doesn't come back and neither does freddie. however, unlike her, everyone knows where he went. his third stint in rehab made headlines once again, some news outlets were kinder than others, most were not.

upon his release, he returned to ogden but not for long, as his agent manages to get him booked onto a film, without auditioning! ironically, it's a recovering addict role. he gives one of his best performances, but it came with a cost.

his mother, having divorced his father with no prenup, was back in his life. there's premiers and pr circuits. he's drowning in debt. greer's still missing and there's ida's death. it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure how he'd spent his summer.

freddie can't afford another bad scandal. he's in his so-called redemption era, at least in the eyes of the public, and if another movie fails because of him then he fears he'll never get booked again. so, that leaves him with one solution: be better at hiding it.

On campus, Surachai is public enemy #1 (to the ones who care about that sort of thing). Perhaps he would've been even more infamous if he hadn't been absent from social functions for most of his years at Ogden, checking in and out of rehab, as the rumors say. Word travels fast around Ogden, faster if you're not there to wave off the gossip. While Surachai was away, the faceless masses unearthed the skeletons in his closet for macabre sightseeing. Now it's public knowledge how Surachai's had a hard past revolving around drugs that even led to a criminal record when he was a minor. You'd think the Miscreant would run off to a new school, reinvent himself, and hide his sins. However, when made out to be the morality tale of "don't end up like him," Surachai has embraced the bad press. If he's the Miscreant, the worst of the worst, the monster they've all made him out to be, he'll be the best damn devil on your shoulder.

"She and I used to be friends. We drifted apart, but that's life." Surachai would tell you, and you'd likely agree with him. It makes sense; the Golden Girl wouldn't associate with the Miscreant of Ogden College. But the truth is always stranger than fiction, and the shadow is always on the heels of the light. If Surachai goes by Dartboard, then Greer Morrison is his bullseye. He is her ride-or-die, her closest friend and confidant, who she can trust to keep his mouth shut. Since he was five years old, Surachai has been by Greer's side, and the two grew up together. They had a "public" falling out when Surachai went to rehab for the first time, but privately, they continued their close and intense friendship. She told him everything, and Surachai repeated nothing. While Surachai is no longer in the limelight with the Golden Girl due to his scandalous past and her keeping up appearances, he was her unfailing chaperone whenever Greer was in the mood to freefall in the dark. They were practically partners in crime. Before she was Golden, she was Greer. Only a few people knew about it, and fewer speak of it. Surachai would rather cut off his tongue than spill her secrets, even when peeling off the Golden Girl's shiny veneer could save everyone from the mysterious G. Over-protective? Yes. Psychotic? Surachai is seated at a cafe, an off-campus favorite of his, and the two of you await your drinks. Since entering the sleek establishment, there are eyes on the two of you, tense like a coiled spring. “That’s one hell of a leading question, ain’t it?” The young man says, rolling a quarter across his knuckles. “Why would I?” He chuckles, relaxing in his seat. Somehow, the room seems to sigh in relief. “I don’t even know what she’s up to. We don’t hang out as much as we did back in the day, but that’s part of college.” He says, opening up his arms in a vague imitation of a ‘ta-daa.’ The drinks arrive, and he salutes the wait staff with a two-fingered swooping off his brow. They gulp and skitter away. Unfazed, Surachai sips at his clear beverage.

“I think you’re best off asking someone who keeps her in their phone.” He shrugs toward the black iPhone out on the table.

“I don’t have her number and hate to break it to you, but you don’t have your guy.”

The normalcy of a childhood spent making mistakes and getting into mischief not one that Carmen had been afforded. Despite the endless parade of events that filled her calendar, it never seemed to take away from the initiative Carmen had always had to reach out to the world around her. It seemed to not matter if it was a teacher, a classmate, a family friend or merely the employee of whatever business they had wandered into — Carmen seemed unable to keep herself from asking about their day, about their life. There was a genuine warmth and interest in people that even her parents money couldn't have afforded to teach, yet they made sure to harness it in whatever form worked best for them, ushering their daughter in the path of whoever's good graces they were attempting to win. However, expectations did not come without their drawbacks, withering down a once lively girl with exhaustion she shouldn't have while merely a teenager. It didn't go unnoticed and unluckily, it wasn't unknown territory for the Hearsts. She was only fifteen, in a dressing room before a pageant when her mother first gifted and encouraged the use of stimulants. It was the start of a dangerous path, leading to dependency that has followed her like a shadow, dependency that Carmen has yet to face the seriousness of. After all, what reason should she have to worry when her own mother had assured that so long as one didn't overdo it, there was no real harm. It was no surprise to anyone when Carmen graduated valedictorian, nor was it a surprise when she got her acceptance and made her way to Ogden University, Charles' Alma mater. It had never been a question to those around her just as it had never been a question for Carmen. There had never been thought or consideration for her own desires, for her own passions and wants out of life. Even now, Ogden may have opened a door for her, may have been an escape for the home that had suffocated her for the entirety of her childhood — yet the expectations lurk overhead like a storm cloud threatening to swallow her whole.

“Excuse me?” The words were spat out of Bibiano's mouth with far more venom than he had intended. He realized his mistake when he turned his head and matched gazes with a pair of detectives in neat business casual. All in all, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise. The ex is always one of the first people they looked at, especially when they hadn't exactly broken up in amicable terms. And despite Greer's valiant attempt at astroturfing the reason for their split, no one had really bought the lies. (At least Bibiano sure hadn’t.) So of course Bibi knew this was coming. From the instant he had heard that she was officially a missing person he knew. He wasn’t stupid. He just, somehow, hadn’t expected this moment to come so soon. Call it naivety. It was fine. He had learned how to handle these types of situations after he hit his first major growth spurt and was 5’8” at 14. Pursing his lips, Bibiano regarded the detectives for a moment before cocking his head slightly and giving them an exasperated smile. “I’d really love to answer any question you have, detectives, but it’ll have to go through my father first. You two know how he is; a real by-the-book type of guy," Bibiano chuckled softly, scratching lightly at the side of his neck. “You have Prosecutor De La Cruz’s number, right?” Bibi then pressed his lips together in a tight lipped smile, eyebrows rising good naturedly. The challenge had been clear. They should have known better. “I’m sure the guys back in the office can help you find it if you don’t.”

Where else would you have a chance to meet and make connections with all these rich kids?” Bibi asked, pushing away from the desk so he could spin his chair in a lazy circle to get a better look at the others. “Aren’t you one of the rich kids, too?” Someone said. Bibiano quirked an eyebrow at that, his lips pushed forward in an annoyed pout. “I mean, yeah, technically. But they’re old money; my family is what they call ‘new money’. Big difference,” Bibi said, tapping the side of his forehead. “Even though I grew up with the Morrisons, I don’t think they ever really thought of me as an equal. I mean, look at how fast Greer dropped me when–” Bibiano snapped his mouth shut as he noticed eyes light up with interest. He had almost said too much. “Y’know what, that’s not important. Stop distracting me, cuz if we turn in a half finished assignment I got no problem throwing you under the bus to save myself.” Bibi snarked, pointing at his lab partner. His laughter bounced off the walls when he was forced to dodge a quickly formed paper ball thrown his way. “Let’s just get back to work, okay?”

“Popularity isn’t supposed to matter past high school, but do you think Ogden has a popular crowd? Like…Greer was popular, wasn’t she?”

“Why the fuck are you talking about her in the past tense?” Bibiano snarled, glaring daggers down at the party goer that had pulled him into a private room. “Cuz last time I checked, Greer’s still marked as a missing person. Unless there’s something you know that I don’t?” Bibiano took two steps forward, closing the distance between them. “Well?” He lifted his eyebrows, his smile warped into something unfamiliar and dangerous. The usually gentle warmth in his eyes burned hotter, fueled by indignant rage. “If you got any new information, I’m dying to hear it.” It was silent in the room except for the muffled sounds of music and chatter coming from the frat party on the other side of the door. “Nothing to say now? Figures.” Bibiano sneered, pushing past them to walk towards the door. He reached for the handle and paused before turning back. “Y’know what? Do me a favor and don’t speak to me again. Matter of fact, stay away from the Morrison twins, too. God knows they have way more important things to worry about than another know-nothing clout chaser looking for the next juicy piece of gossip.” With that, Bibi stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. A few heads turned towards the noise, but he didn’t wait to see if anyone called out. Taking long strides, he made it to a familiar gaudily furnished bathroom, stepped in, and locked the door behind him with trembling hands. Dropping clumsily onto the sink countertop he gripped it like a lifeline as the adrenaline slowly drained out of him. His mind was a jumbled mess, the thoughts racing far too quickly for him to make sense of anything. Bloodshot eyes flickered up to the antique gold mirror hung in front of him. He looked awful. There’s no way he could face the rest of the party looking like this. Not after the scene he had just made. They probably were already whispering among themselves, chomping at the bit to watch another star ignite into flames on their fall from grace. Well, too bad for them. They’d have to wait a little longer before he’d let himself burn up into ash and dust.

Well-intentioned but inexperienced, Rhia struggles to actualize her ideology of unconditional love in a practical manner. She has a simplistic, rose-tinted view of the world and her role in it. To most Rhia comes off as an open book, even overly honest about her private life. for someone who spends most of her time over sharing, not much is publicly known about the intricacies of her home life. Not many would recognize her insatiable rambling as the deflective tactic it was, and the general assumption seems to be she grew up with a nuclear family, a stern mother and a loving father. Although, her peers easily identify her as an only child, as her whiny, spoiled nature speaks for itself.

She was born in Norway, at the hospital her grandmother gave birth to her mother. It was a difficult birth and an even more difficult subsequent period of Acacia feigning at motherly duties she quickly discovered she wanted no part in. Whereas the newly born Rhiannon proved to be the bane of her mother’s existence, her father lamented his shortcomings as a provider.

Christopher is nurturing and gentle, softspoken even as others stripped him of his good faith. He is an earnest man but weak. He was not taught to stick up for himself, rather he learned it was best to keep his head down and turn the other cheek if need be. He’d gotten himself a cushy job, a big house, and a seemingly doting wife. Yet, her love was quick to dry, replaced instead with an icy stare and chilling words if he fell short of her expectations.

It was easy for him to submit to Acacia’s will, replacing the authoritarian attitude of his father with her narcissistic tendencies. He took no leadership in his parental role, justifying his inaction with affection and flattery for his young daughter. She was well-loved, provided for, and gifted; yet he could not explain away the ire his wife held for their daughter.

Several months later, the family returned to their isolated home. Rhia was a sensitive child, bursting out in tears regardless of how many times her mother scolded her. Her father continued in his complacency toward Acacia’s emotional abuse. As young as eight years old, her mother proposed a strict meal regiment to minimize Rhia’s excelling growth in baby fat. For your ballet form... She insisted, and Rhia knew only how to listen.

As she grew older, her mother’s controlling habits continued to rear its head and dominate every aspect of Rhia’s life. Her mother dressed her well into her early teens, but eventually she’d hidden a growing collection of her own choosings in an empty picnic basket she kept atop her closet.

Her father grew older and sicker, though his long hours in the classroom stayed the same. They grew estranged, due to time apart and Rhia’s realization her father would never protect her from her mother. After years of idly playing the role of a good, obedient daughter, the first sign of real temptation charmed her into giving up any lingering desire to appease her parents.

Her temptation came in the form of a long-haired pretty boy who was much too old and much too vain to be an appropriate first love for Rhia. Though, she fell head over heels for him all the same. Upon their first encounter, she demanded a spot in his smoking circle, failing to mention it was her first experience. He would continue to be the first of many for her, and Rhia eagerly followed Caleb further each exploratory boundary he pushed her through.

Her mother caught on to her nightlife after several months of staking out and investigating her daughter’s changing behavior. Acacia suspected Rhia was sneaking out of the house long before she actually started, but she reveled in exposing Rhia’s behavior. The consequences were non-negotiable; Acacia was devout and her daughter’s relationship with Caleb involved several many sins.

(tw: domestic violence) She was forced to leave at the hand of her mother’s harassment. While her mother occasionally raised a hand to her before, Rhia was stripped and bruised and humiliated. Her father wept helplessly as the two argued, though Rhia never lifted a finger to defend herself. She packed a duffel bag full of what she deemed essential, and Acacia booted her out of the door, yelling slurs and threatening her only child if she ever returned home.

Freshly sixteen and already defeated, Rhiannon moved into the small house her boyfriend shared with three other roommates. They were smelly, vulgar, and disrespectful, but Caleb fraternized with them so Rhia laughed along. He’d quickly become her entire world, Rhia living and breathing to satisfy every want he had. She would do anything to earn his love, though it was a losing game as Caleb hardly took their relationship serious.

It was his guilt about playing a hand in the destruction of Rhia’s home life that kept them together. He only ever offered up his home to her because he felt bad, especially when she was too nice to him for her own good. So, he sucked it up for a year and a half, giving Rhia the decency of hooking up with people behind her back while allowing her to kiss his ass the entire time.

Soon enough, his interest in someone else peaked, and Caleb finally put an end to the toxic whirlwind of their relationship. She was devastated but forced to take the little savings she’d kept from her experimental work and sublet a room for the rest of her time in high school.

She wasn’t ready to be financially independent, and her life struggling to make ends meet nearly drove her to her wit’s end. Rhia lost all semblance of love and felt no companionship from those around her. She existed as a ghost, draining herself into her part-time job to pay for her shitty, run-down apartment.

Her lifeline during this time became her sex work, Rhia stayed afloat by putting a price on her presence and charming men to hand over their wallets. Oddly, it was a position of power she grew to crave. She grew to romanticize her own exploitation, transmuting her learned sexual energy into confidence and magnetism. She grew to adore the idolization, healthy sproutlings emerging from the seeds of her father’s love and her stage performance.

She hadn’t expected her career choice to catch up with her, though it was only a matter of time before word got around at Ogden about Rhia being seen accompanying (and perhaps fondling) a man over twice her age. She has since then recovered from the crippling period of self hatred that followed the stirring gossip, though she never managed to admit to the allegations.

(tw: chronic illness) Unexpectedly, her mother contacted her shortly after the beginning of her sophomore year when her father’s health took a turn for the worse. Through a stiff lip, Acacia practically told the daughter she hadn’t seen in three years she owed it to her to nurse Christopher back to health. Old habits die hard, and reluctantly Rhia packed up her life at Ogden to return home, like a lamb to the slaughter.

In truth, she hadn’t expected her mother to release her clutches as her father’s body slowly healed. He spent several weeks completely incapacitated, in constant pain from his joint inflammation. So, Rhia pleaded with her father instead, telling him of all the tales of her time at school and milking the fondness he held for her. At the promise that she maintain contact with her parents from now on, they didn’t fight her second flight from home.

She'd only been back a few months before she was abruptly pulled out of school, yet again disappearing without so much as a word. Only a few weeks later did she manage to reach out to inform her close friends she was okay. However, she refused to disclose anything about her whereabouts. And after a short reassurance about her safety, she was gone again for months.

To visit her family back in Maine... at least, that's what she's decided to say for now.

Undeniably, she's come back... different. Quieter, more somber, even paranoid. Whereas she shone brightly once like the sun, a hazy fog seemingly follows her every move on campus. Rhia has kept her head down for the most part, going to class as normal and avoiding trouble. Yet, the same question has arisen time and time again following her return... what happened over summer?

Was she to blame for her eagerness to bask in the warmth of Greer’s light? Since she’d stepped on campus, Rhia fell under the golden girl’s spell. Only ever courageous enough to admire (and gossip) about her from afar, she’d learned to steer clear of Greer’s radar in an act of social self-preservation.

They officially met during the latter part of Rhia’s freshman year, both inebriated and seeking solace in the bathroom of some nightclub or another. She recognized the scent of Louboutin before seeing Greer’s blonde waves and pouty lips. Greer didn’t so much as throw her a glance before slamming the stall door behind her, disheveled and unbalanced.

Greer was a notorious party girl, but nevertheless everyone accidentally crossed their limit one time or another. Are you okay? she asked meekly. Fantastic, she answered back, unamused. Eventually, her gentle coaxing convinced Greer to soften her reproach. It wasn’t anything Rhia hadn’t done a million times before for a million other girls - she stroked her back and consoled her through her struggles with a night of overdoing it.

Of course, Greer likely only allowed so much assuming Rhia was a random chance encounter, rather than a fellow student from the same school. When she broke the news, for a moment she was certain whatever popularity she’d earned in the halls of Ogden were over.

Much to her surprise, Greer put Rhia under a vow of silence... and in return, promised to make her an honorary Popular Girl with the help of her influence. In all honesty, she often believed Greer could barely tolerate her, let alone value their friendship. Rhia hardly saw the deal as the political scheme for what it was, rather desperately clinging onto the narrative her kindness bred a soft spot in Greer for her.

She plucked and changed and refined much of Rhia’s public appearance; trading out obscure Rob Zombie shirts, red plaid, unnecessary buckled pieces for tennis skirts and cashmere and headbands. Greer bestowed her with luxury anti-frizz leave in and even several of her outdated designer pieces.

Rhia adored the pampered princess treatment, mending herself to every note of Greer’s and even emulating her mannerisms and speech. She loved the air of luxury she felt around Greer and her friends. She loved the attention. Though, not much could be done to wipe away her innate weirdness or fondness for those who despised what she stood for.

People close to Rhia would often call into question the legitimacy of her relationship with Greer and her social group. She couldn’t deny there was some truth to these warnings; she bent over backwards to pander to people who likely never would have looked her way in the first place had she not been associated with Greer.

Still, she didn’t gain much from listening to Rhia drone on about her ill-fated love life over FaceTime, attending her showcases, or accompanying her on her many, spontaneous shopping trips. Perhaps some of their dynamic was transactional, but Rhia could accept that, convinced their kinship was genuine and mutual. Greer could be cruel and domineering on occasion, but she was one of the first people to openly encourage Rhia to take ownership of her personhood.

ronan zeng was born into money, wealth, and luxury. his father was a ceo of a software company that generated an obscene amount of money for him, and his mother had her own small side businesses that she owned and visited often. she could have easily slipped into the rich house wife lifestyle, but what was admirable about his mother was that she chose not to. but as admirable as that was, it also meant that both parents were quite absent and focused on work for most of his life, if not all of it, to pay any real attention to him and his sister.

naturally, that caused a ripple effect — they lacked the parental affection and attention that children crave, so they grew up to become people demanding the attention that he thought he deserved. for ronan, this came in becoming more eccentric, causing a little more trouble, saying out of pocket things just to get a reaction, and acting only on impulse. this desire to be seen didn't only come in the form of a wild streak — it also came in excelling at the piano, and swimming, joining the debate club and being the loudest most obnoxious fuck in there, and current day, joining a fraternity on campus. still, it seemed to get him nothing more than a hair ruffle, or a nod of approval, or a few words of affirmation that felt scripted from both his parents. it wasn't like he doubted that his parents loved him — at least, he never doubted his mother. they just didn't really put him above their careers, always second. this is why ronan wanted to be the first and the best at everything he did.

as far back as he could remember, ronan grew up alongside the morrisons. they were like a second family — full of the good, and the bad side of a family. he was the closest to edward, as they were the same age, and did pretty much everything together. for a second, he thought that he and eddie would be close friends until they grew old. but now, that hasn't been the case, after their most recent fight that they haven't been able to come back from.

Mari Zuko may not have been the typical sorority president. She was sardonic, dry, brash, and most importantly - never caught dead in a pastel. But it became clear from an early age that Mari was the one who her parents pinned their hopes on. Bryn, her older sister, made it obvious she wasn’t going to indulge their father - the dean of Ogden College - and did the exact opposite. In fact, she didn’t even apply to college. So the pressure all fell on Mari. And it’s not that she exactly cared…maybe ambition was too strong a word, considering Mari’s goals weren’t motivated on any personal level, but she certainly had goals. They just were motivated by her desire for others admiration, envy, and, of course, their approval.

HOW SHE EMBODIES HER CHARACTER TROPE: THE CLOSET GAY

Mari is the second daughter of two parents with extraordinarily high expectations for their children. While Bryn, her elder sister, always was able to shake them off without much effort, Mari often felt like she was collapsing under the weight of what they wanted for her. It didn’t help that her father was the Dean of Ogden, his ever sharp eyes on what the going ons on campus were. Not to say Mari didn’t have moments of weakness - she absolutely did. And Greer was one of those moments.

First semester, she studied abroad in Portugal.

Second semester, luckily she didn't have too many encounters with G but she was determined to try to find them.

She became a bit obsessed, even thought about hiring a private investigator.

School year ended with a bang, she got trapped in the commons when the fire started and thought the best route of escape was straight through the flames. It did not end well. The next thing she knew she was waking up in the hospital.

SUMMER SHENANIGANS

Since Reina was seriously injured at the end of the school year her parents were extra protective. Here are some highlights:

Reina was not allowed to travel alone and her parents basically took her phone away. They got her a new one with a new number and everything but they put spyware on it as a safety precaution.

They kept her old phone to monitor as well in case G reached out.

She was strongly discouraged to post on social media or reach out to friends (this is an ic excuse for my ooc disappearance and not being active during the "summer" months lol)

She traveled around Europe with her parents to the best doctors to treat her burns and even got some skin graft done on the worst of the burns of her arm and neck. Other treatments like ointments were used to help with the scarring.

Reina was assigned a body guard, courtesy of her father.

The first half of the summer she stayed with her mom who was traveling around Europe for work. Some nights she'd sneak out and go clubbing or find whatever seedy party/rave she could and indulge in drink and drugs - she wasn't coping well with how the school year ended.

The second half of the summer was spent at their current home in Berlin where she spent a lot of time with her dad.

She learned a lot more of both her parent's jobs during this time together.

Her parents got her a german shepard to help her cope but also another protection measure.

She got a nose piercing.

She dyed her hair blonde, at one point she thought about shaving her head but was talked out of it.

RELATIONSHIP TO GREER: COLLEGE FRIENDS

Heath couldn't say exactly when or where he met Greer, all the finnicky details lost to the chaotic blur that had been rush week, but when he woke up with her contact info in his phone one morning, it definitely felt like it was meant to be. Both freshmen, both rich and pretty -- what more motivation did they need? C'mon, it would've been weirder if they weren't friends! Just like the rest of the Ogden masses, Heath was dragged into Greer Morrison's gravitational pull, and he went willingly. They started linking up on the regular, meeting up at parties or catching each other on down days around campus, building a strong friendship that he's never once thought to second-guess.

EMBODIMENT OF HIS TROPE: THE MALINGERER

Everyone has known a Heath. The no-show with a great excuse. The guy that never fails to charm his way into the group project with the smartest student. A person who's probably never seriously been told 'no' even once in their life. And it's not luck, either; it's privilege. Heath can rest on his laurels all thanks to the Talbot family name and the achievements of those around him. The third son, he's never felt the pressure of expectation. His mother babies him while simple participation trophies earn him congratulations from his father, allowing him every easy win that he chooses to take. And if he ever faces a roadblock? Heath's positive that there's a way around it. A check to write, a phone call to make, red tape to ignore. Everyone else has always pulled the strings for him, anyway, so why should he start worrying now? Life's a breeze when you don't have to seriously think about anything!

heath was an unexpected baby, the product of a long-term (and still on-going) affair of his mother's. his parents privately maintain a pseudo-open relationship while publicly playing house for the sake of each of their careers. needless to say, family dinners have a tendency to get Weird

his dad is a venture capitalist, very much in the same vein as gavin belson of silicon valley -- he's long since lost touch with his coder roots and mostly just throws his money around to keep his name relevant in tech circles.

heath interns frequently at the companies his dad owns, true nepo baby shit 🥰 but lbr all he does is go on coffee runs and clocks in for 4 hour work weeks

he's currently majoring in communications bc he legit googled "easiest college majors" and it was near the top of the list

anyway yeah, heath's..... not that smart. and to make matters worse, he's sensitive about it!! gets mean when he's confused or frustrated, esp when he feels like he's being teased and not in on the joke. he's got a short fuse after a lifetime of his older brothers picking on him. he'd rather be perceived as rude than dumb

MOMMA’S WORDS REOCCUR TO ME:

growing up in cleveland mississippi meant that leaky had access to the only grammy museum outside of la. but really it meant that leaky grew up with humble beginnings, in a one story house that was full of love, laughter, and inspiration. andre and adelaide wright had been high school sweethearts, with andre giving up his dreams of being a full-time musician when they found out adelaide was pregnant, to then instead be the town mechanic. she was a nurse, he a mechanic during the days and blues musician at night, and though life was hectic. it was good.

leaky was taught all the necessities by his father, piano, bass, basic mechanic skills. he wanted his son to be well-rounded and thrive in the world. to build him up. and, like every southern town, high school football became the heart of the wright household. and early on they discovered that leaky was talented. he was good, he had promise for the future. and that he had.

so between practices, gardening, picking on his younger siblings, jamming with his father, and everything else in between, leaky looked at the future with hope, with optimism. and it seemed promising.

junior year of high school, leaky committed to alabama for football, full-ride, tight-end. play time wasn’t promised for him as a freshman, but nick saban personally mentioned his name for future championships. and to make everything better, his best friend jackson and girlfriend iona were accepted their senior year. they had plans to make tuscaloosa their home.

SURRENDER TO THE GOOD LORD: (tw death)

his freshman year was exciting, and a bit overwhelming. the golden boy of the town lost his way, getting caught up in the culture of college and partying. jackson, iona, and him were having the time of their life. and sure leaky wasn’t playing as much as he wanted, but it was enough for the time being.

and then tragedy struck, beginning of second semester of his freshman year, the three of them had been out one night, leaky felt he was on top of the world. but soon it fell into darkness, he remembered sliding into the backseat of the car, pressing a sloppy kiss to iona’s neck, and the next thing he was waking up in the hospital receiving the worst news of his life. jackson and iona were dead.

and then things continued downhill, ogden had attempted to recruit leaky as well, and reached out with a new offer. full playing time, full ride, and a fresh start. leaky couldn’t turn it down. it might be kissing his chance of the nfl behind, but he couldn’t turn down the stellar education ogden was offering him.

so after finishing his freshman year, leaky moved to portsmouth, summer training and all, began his life at ogden, this time taking a side role in his life. no longer the big fish in a small pond like his life in mississippi, he found his place easily. but he doesn’t talk about his freshman year, he doesn’t visit home, and though he seems to be a vibrant and stellar young man, he holds his cards close to his chest.

AND HE’LL WIPE YOUR SLATE CLEAN:

leaky is enjoying ogden, two years in he’s making friends, a star player, doing what he can. and yet there’s a nagging guilt, of not going home when he knows his family misses him, of not visiting iona and jackson’s families, of moving on. but he can’t face it, not yet. maybe one day he’ll be able to return home.

in fact that was the original plan, after his education, to return to cleveland and continue to build up his beloved city. like his father, leaky let’s his passions stay that way, it’s easier to keep the creativity without the pressure of it all. and instead he chose environmental science, something he hopes to be an asset for his community. leaky grew up gardening with his mother, and shares a deep love for the environment, and figures this is the best way to move forward.

GREER:

the two were casual friends. he’d see her at parties, and at school events. it’s hard not to notice the golden girl, especially with how visual leaky is on campus, always involved with an event or being seen in the advertising for the school. they got along fine, having friendships that crossed-over. he never knew her really well, but he respected her enough and enjoyed her presence. whenever she needed help or had a favor, leaky was more than ready to aid a hand. though it never seemed the two got below a surface-level friendship (to those who witnessed them anyway).

THE TRUSTY SIDEKICK:

you need a wingman? leaky is your guy. he’s charming and pleasant and can talk anyone up. need a favor? leaky is there easily fulfilling it as if it’s nothing to him. the guy is a confidant, a hype-man, a volunteer, he can transform himself into whatever you need and it never seems to bother him. and despite being a gifted football player, and smart guy, and seemingly everywhere on campus, he doesn’t steal the spotlight. he’s not the one you think of when you think of ogden, he lets others take the popularity, the jealous looks, the whispers. despite always being there, you might sometimes overlook him, maybe because he’s always there. but he seems to be a good guy, always offering a kind smile and nod of his head on campus, willing to help tutor you in math, and then lets you have all the glory when you ace the test. it almost seems like leaky is making himself out to be the pedestal that everyone sits on. the support that uplifts the hero, and yet still disappears in the crowd, never seeking glory for himself.

WHEN ALL THE BRIDGES HAVE BEEN BURNED:

jennifer pierce expected the best of her children. she gave them the best so of course they had to return the favor. she had inherited her father’s business, and was excelling so much her husband took her last name. it wasn’t a feminist thing, but a money thing you see. alethea grew up without a want, but the truth of the matter is she never knew what she wanted. her mother made those decisions. from what she wore, to how she cut her hair, to who her friends were and what activities did. her entire life was planned to a t, and alethea never questioned a moment of it. how do you question something that you didn’t know was an option?

her brother jacob was doted on, and grew up with a grin and popularity. this was easy to him. this was painful for alethea. she smiled and waved, and the only matters of relief she found were in her ballet classes. going professional hadn’t been her mother’s first plan, but seeing the natural talent her daughter was, and just how feminine she was, allowed this small change in the over all path forward.

jennifer and carl met at ogden, and she knew that was where her children were to go. there was no exception, and jennifer would do whatever needed for her kids to follow her legacy. the major was flexible, but they would go to ogden, they would find suitable spouses, and they would carry on the family legacy. it was picture perfect, and she never heard a single word of complaint from either of her children.

AND ALL THE TABLES HAVE BEEN TURNED BY ME:

growing up without decisions meant college was terrifying for alethea. she had to pick her classes, find friends that her mother couldn’t approve of, and suddenly had free time that wasn’t planned out for her? it was paralyzing. but during the second week of classes greer spotted alethea across the way and took her under her wing. she showed her what the world could be, and she still fit under that approval from jennifer pierce. greer wasn’t just her best friend, but she was a bit of a savior for her.

this whole time there has been a gnawing in her chest. a desire for freedom, a petition to let the real alethea out and run free. but who was she? alethea couldn’t answer that, not honestly. just who her mother had manufactured her to be. but this confusion, this shyness, this quietness played into a different picture of alethea. it allowed her to be whatever anyone wanted her to be, they could paint their own ideas of her. she could be mysterious, she could be all they ever wanted. and she could be a dream.

and it was through this exploration that alethea slowly stepped out of the pillars her mother had built for her. first came the time greer dared her to kiss another girl during spin the bottle, and alethea realized that she might have enjoyed it more than her mother would have liked. and then came the time greer put her in a suit instead of a dress, and she liked the way it looked on her. and that maybe she wasn’t a girl after all, but something that could be shed. and so they started to pick up new pieces of theirself, putting them together to form a whole new journey. was ballet even the career they wanted? did they even like ogden? who were these people that had been decided as their friends? the questions became overwhelming.

WHO WILL BE LEFT TO LEAVE? JUST ME:

and now greer is gone. and it’s noticeable the change in alethea. it began before her disappearance of course, but could it somehow be correlated? alethea willingly goes out, sometimes alone, now. they are keeping greers friends, they are speaking up and out, they have a bite to them that hadn’t existed once upon a time. what does the future hold of alethea? are they becoming who they really are, or are they once again pretending, shedding the quiet role they had lived into for all their life for one that looks a little more like their now missing friend…

GREER:

during freshman year at ogden, alethea was absolutely lost and in-over her head. she had never been the rebellious type, her parents had been too strict to allow non-sense in their house, and so alethea was overwhelmed with the freedom college could allow, and she had no idea how to deal with it. her mother had always taught her to seek out the ‘right’ people to befriend, and it was just her luck that greer extended her own friendship to alethea. she brought them to the parties, encouraged her to flirt with whomever was necessary in order to go after who she wanted, and overall guided alethea through college. they doesn’t know if she would have been able to survive any of it without greer. there was little jealousy on alethea’s side at the beginning - she was just grateful for what greer could offer her through her friendship. and alethea was not a threat to greer. but as they’ve grown older there has been a tension living in the friendship, the reliance upon each other that might not be as necessary anymore. alethea was not anymore outgoing or less shy, but now her shyness was being interpreted as mystery, making them a bit more intriguing to others and perhaps sparking some jealousy on greer’s side.

THE DRAG-ALONG:

you know that girl that was always a few steps behind greer and the fallen princess? the one with wide eyes and a quiet demeanor? they never seemed to talk much, but even in their silence never seemed to be entirely so observant that you had to watch what you were saying. really, she just seemed like a little pet to the best friends, a third they allowed to follow them around.

and that person? that was alethea, taken under greer’s wing during the first weeks of school freshman year but never brought too close. it was the kind of relationship where alethea was sure to call greer one of her best friends, and greer might hesitate, only referring to them as a simple friend. but wherever the fallen princess and greer were, alethea was there. fingers picking at each other, posture both immaculate and slouched. each semester they seemed to get a bit bolder, inching their way up next to the other two, but still never find herself as an equal.

meliha is the recluse. they almost always has their nose in a book - too quiet, too shy to speak up. and when they do, her voice is almost a whisper. it's easy to talk over them. they have a hard time socializing at parties (if they ever even go). they are social around those who are close to them, but they are never the first one to speak up. it's a wonder they ever actually leave their dorm to join in on the extracurriculars they're involved in.

meliha.

when meliha was in their pre-teens, they moved to gatlinburg, tennessee from istanbul, turkey. their family is far from rich. their mom worked two jobs to make ends meet. meliha got a job in high school to help take care of their younger siblings. they worked at the public library, putting away books, using their break time to work on their studies.

meliha waited a few years after graduation to start college. they took this time to work full-time to help provide for their family. when she applied to ogden, she was awarded an academic scholarship for their achievements while they were in school. their mom had pushed for meliha to go to college, to do something with their life.. to enjoy their life.

it was a relief on their family to not have to worry about paying for their college. however, meliha couldn't help but to worry about her family back home. it wasn't her first choice to be so far away for college, but they couldn't pass up the opportunity. meliha works part-time and sends as much as they can back home. most of the money they make is spent on necessities.

became an education major to make a different to today's youth. although they may be incredibly shy and quiet in their everyday life, when they are teaching/in front of a classroom, she is a whole different person. it's an out of body experience for them. they imagine teaching for the rest of their life. meliha wishes to teach middle or high school math.

part of meliha knew that they didn't wholeheartedly identify as a woman. although their features and style were primarily feminine, there is a part of them that feels genderless. they came out to their mom in high school. their mom didn't exactly understand what that meant - they haven't really spoken about it since then. they are still trying to figure out the world themselves. they joined the queer alliance to hopefully meet people who feel similar to them, or have had similar experiences to them.

essentially, meliha is a very socially awkward recluse. will say the wrong things, will stumble over their words. does not know how to be friends.

greer morrison.

imagine a freshman meliha - painfully awkward and not knowing how to make friends. imagine the limelight of greer, basking in the sunlight as it seemed like she had so many friends. meliha and greer were in two opposite circles, well - if you could call whatever friends meliha did have as a friend group. greer took her in to try and help her open up more. meliha was the tiniest bit envious of how easy it seemed for greer, to be able to socialize without stumbling over her words or making something awkward. the other part of meliha wished they would never have what greer had - how exhausting it must have been to be socializing at all moments of her life. greer invited meliha to a few parties where meliha tried to grow her social circle. she would stick close to greer like a lost puppy. one night, meliha gets drunk at a party. realizes that this is not the life that she wants, she would much rather be in the safe place in her room. meliha would rarely be spotted at a party after.

RELATIONSHIP TO GREER...

After the initial years of bickering and childish disdain had worn, Luke’s relationship with his sister had become nothing less than a friend and a confidant. Someone to talk to and to help protect, worse came to worse. After all, who else was more like you in the world than that of a sibling? An occupant of the same row of hanging fruit on the family tree; the only one familiar and understanding of what it was like to grow up and carry the burden all your parent’s inevitable faults; the only other one in the whole world who could help in coping and navigating the world. Kinship was a bond unmatched, but a match Luke and Greer were. They were the centers of the room without meaning to be— two planets in orbit, able to, with ease, converse with anyone. In a way, they were yin and yang— he the fire and her the water, however to his helplessness, his sister naturally had a way of slipping into dark cracks and crevices of which he was not able to reach nor see. It was this time, by the fear of many, including his own, that she was lost for good.

HOW THEY EMBODY THEIR TROPE...

The proud elite. A golden lion, mane and all, a roar so loud that it deafened his own ears. In a way, Luke and all the other cubs of the 1% couldn’t help it— it was all they knew, and well, the erasure of twenty years of memory from someone’s young adult life was simply hard to do. This ‘lavishness’ and ‘polished’ lifestyle was evident with him, in the way he dressed, in the choices he made, the tone he spoke with and the hobbies he picked, like enacting crutches to a seemingly groomed personality of perfectionism. The thought of being anything less than the best had been instilled as a harrowing fault for Luke from an early age; growing into a man he had acquired a sense of confidence and societal role that made him feel as though he were on the right track, along with Greer. His aristocratic trajectory was fate, as was those less than him. Steadfast he must continue, no matter the unyielding pressure from his parents after she went missing to maintain flawlessness— no matter the way others seemed to gawk at him now, especially in the light of updates on the case— no matter, no matter… He was the proud elite, the lion’s cub rising from the den: exemplary he would remain. Perfect he would have to be.

THE ICE QUEEN and THE UNFAVORITEare firmly on the opposite side of a familial fault from THE PROUD ELITE and THE GOLDEN GIRL. But these relationships are sure to get more complicated now that they’re all at Ogden with Greer nowhere to be found.

In high school, it didn’t take long for THE GOLDEN GIRL to start butting heads with THE GO-GETTER GIRL… the past (and any lingering awkwardness) between THE PROUD ELITE and The Go-Getter Girl is surely just a coincidence.

Once upon a time, THE BRUISER WITH A SOFT CENTER was friends with THE PROUD ELITE, even though he was employed by their family. But disdain for THE GOLDEN GIRL and all she stood for couldn’t help but complicate their relationship.

THE TRUSTY SIDEKICK has to be at the side of someone, right? While he and THE GOLDEN GIRL seemed to just be surface level, a friendship with THE PROUD ELITE explains why he was always so quick lend a hand to her. Or maybe he’s just that nice!

THE PROUD ELITE is intelligent, there’s no question about it. But he also knows that the truly intelligent use their resources - hence THE GOLDEN GIRL connecting him with THE ERUDITE STONER as soon as he was on campus.

Surely they aren’t friends….but THE PROUD ELITE quite possibly was an even bigger customer of THE SCHOLARSHIP STUDENT than THE GOLDEN GIRL was. Though he’d likely deny it, if you asked.

Well, they aren’t called THE FEMME FATALE for no reason, and despite their loyalty to THE GOLDEN GIRL, even THE PROUD ELITE couldn’t resist them. Poor Greer, with her brother’s previous unfailing loyalty wavering in the face of a hook-up.

THE PROUD ELITE and THE HEDONIST are both extremely privileged for many reasons - the least of which isn’t how close to THE GOLDEN GIRL they are. Not just anyone gets a seat in her inner circle.

If there’s one thing THE GOLDEN GIRL counted on from her circle, it was being everyone’s favorite. So if she learned that THE FALLEN PRINCESS and THE PROUD ELITE had been growing closer behind her back? Well, can’t imagine her liking that.

THE PROUD ELITE has been untrusting of THE PUPPETMASTER and their relationship with THE GOLDEN GIRL…but without Greer, will they manage to get another Morrison on their strings to pull?
