Not last week… It always surprises me as I lean into trusting this intuitive process. I couldn’t complete this a week ago… I had to wait until the next part of the story revealed itself to me. This is about meaning making and pausing to listen to what this story needs. The random spiral patterns flowing from and around the owl are energy connections. It’s always about the connections. I have always loved spirals but something shifted as I connected to rabbit energy over the lunar new year. I started to play with the line work around and overlapping as part of a flow of nature. This started with the new year rabbit. I know these lines and they keep returning to my art story over time. I feel that I want more of this in the art I’m creating now as it feels like earth healing which is so needed now. The lines are the guided story path which is never straight as a sense of exploration through the nature. I feel a deep desire to connect to the energy of nature and her grounding, calm stories. These pieces are about that messy beauty of discovery and curiosity. I want this freedom! What if I just let go…? What if the wings played as abstract form and pattern? Something shifted in this bright story… colours began to dance across the page in new ways… I love how the layers build and new stories surprise you. This is where I’m headed … towards that freedom and letting go even more. I find that I learn in layers. I don’t know how to do it any other way. My dyslexic brain needs lots of ideas for me to take and merge into something that feels uniquely me. The way I learn new ways to create art is the samE as how I cook. I have an idea and gather different recipes together and choose what feels like it would go together. This step into abstracting the wings and simplifying the background of my imagined owls is exciting and full of possibilities. Im@loving the light bright colours that make me feel happy. This piece will be part of the A4 art Australia exhibition in March. Completion cycle I sometimes wonder about adding so many works in progress… I can’t just show a finished piece because we it is the story layers that build through the process that give the work it’s energy. I remember that it is so about the process… stepping into the story and asking what it needs. How can I create that energy of inner strength. Those bright stories that remind us how to pause into this moment. That space of allowing whatever needs to find its way into this space of stillness and calm. The flow of white ink and the dots create spaces within the night sky as the magenta holds us in this space of leaning into something more. I’m creating a collection of owls that are my focus for this half of the year at least. I do love the story connections of these imaginative owls. They make me curious to know more. There is an aliveness and joy in stepping into the messy beauty of contrast. Choosing to move away from safe and see how the story evolves. Being in that space of trust that is intuitive art and allowing connections to form. My imagined owl story worlds make me smile and add brightness along the way. As I post this work in progress, I feel like the wing of the large owl wants to be a small owl huddling into the mother owls side. Owl stories Sitting in my studio on a hot Tuesday afternoon. I am connecting to this little owl story as she sits on a post looking out at her world. She sits beneath the first full moon of the year wondering through the layered patterns of her feathers. Dots dance as energy around her, creating space for so much more. She sits poised facing to the left as her head turns in curiosity, noticing her world. After a long time in seclusion, she wonders if it is time to connect to the world again.
