Starting somewhere new always nerved Piper. Especially somewhere there were three different companies rolled into one to take care of. Her new job was at a publishing company, one that sat atop its own bookstore and cafe. It was unique feeling and extremely more welcoming than the other one she had found while looking for employment. The moment she stepped inside, she knew her good choice was confirmed.

The bottom level was where the bookshop and cafe sat. Too one side, rows upon rows of books sat lined almost too the ceiling. And the scent that filled her; warm cinnamon and honey, peppermint and nutmeg, and a hint of something fruity floated around the room. And suddenly, any form of nerves seemed to leave her body.

She stepped up to the front desk, where the receptionist sat with their back turned toward her. ‘Excuse me.’ She said softly as she fixed her bag over her shoulder. ‘I’m Piper Kinsley…I’m the new hire. I’m supposed to meet Dedrek.’

Rose had always wanted to be a big-name actress. Staring in movies, and television shows, rather than only being on the stage for a couple nights a week or a background extra in some indie film. But her agent had finally found someone who wanted her for the main role of the newest hit television show based on one of the most popular books that were flying off the shelves. It was filled with fantasy, danger, drama, and most importantly, pirates. Rose was to play the main character. She had been overjoyed when she got the news.

Maxeen, Rose's agent had asked her to meet early at the studio to discuss some things before getting right into filming. But Rose's taxi had missed the building the first time around, and now she was rushing toward the closing elevator. 'Hold the elevator!' she called to the person inside it before stopping the door with her hand. Thankfully, the doors reopened and didn't keep going or else Maxeen would give her an earful.

The elevator doors opened slowly, and Rose stepped inside, blowing her hair out of her face as she fixed her bag over her shoulder. 'Thanks...' she breathed to the other inside the elevator. 'I'm late for my first day...not my fault though...my driver missed the building.' She didn't know why she was rambling so much. Maybe it was the nerves.
