i've seen this terrible scene from a new simpsons season and in the scene skinner is sitting in the car with his mother and she says something like "you're as bad at [something] as you are at starting a family" and he makes up some excuse to get out of the car and then he lies down next to it in fetal position covering his eyes with his hands and like...shaking or something and his mother is like "oh a panic attack? i'll give you something to panic about!" and starts beating him with her purse... and that's it. that's supposed to be the joke. and in the comment section of that clip on youtube everyone gets the reason why this isn't funny so wrong. like, someone wrote that skinner wasn't "so pathetic" in the older seasons and that...isn't even true lmao (if you like to call it 'pathetic'...i wouldn't call it that but. you know. if you like that word then he has ALWAYS been 'pathetic"). i only think that in the older seasons all of the characters were A LOT of things. but now most of the time they're reduced to ONE characteristic. at least in the episodes and scenes that i've seen of the newer stuff. and the gags are just so bad. they just show a situation without adding anything to it and want you to laugh at it. showing someone being abused by their parent in itself isn't funny but you can make funny situations out of it. for example like when skinner and his mother are waiting in a line and she says she's tired and doesn't want to wait anymore and asks him to do something about it and he says "i'm not principal of the line, mother" and she says "and you never will be". that still has the implication of her being an abusive mother but it's funny bc it shows how absurd the behaviour of abusive parents is since he has done nothing wrong and is still put down by her for no reason and being treated like he isn't good enough and has to do better all the time even if it doesn't make any sense (like...becoming principal of a waiting line shdhdhdhdhshs). this is also so funny to me bc my mother always does this exact same thing and it took me years to see how absurd it is, but by now i've even developed a sense of humor about it in some way. the newer scene i described on the other hand isn't funny at all to me bc you're supposed to laugh at HIM. which in itself isn't a bad thing but in the context of this scene it's something that is distasteful to me. it's so cold hearted. i can't even believe that anyone would find that funny. if you find someone having a panic attack and being treated like that funny you're a jerk and probably a fan of f*mily g*y. i only found it sad, to be honest. i even wrote a comment under that video that just says "this is sad". you can look it up, i'm not lying. lmao.

#this show has lost its heart #and i feel like they overdo a lot of things nowadays in a lazy attempt to be funny #but they just end up being cringy and embarrassing at best #and sad at worst
