Fire Red Nuzlocke Chapter Seventeen
After our ridiculously heavy loss, we went to the Fuchsia Gym to take down Koga which with Saracen was uneventful on our end. He gave us his badge, the ability to Surf everywhere and Toxic which I was about to give straight to Namaste when I had a thought. I’m not sure I need a Grass/Poison type.
The next two Gyms are Fire and Ground, both of which I can wreck with Lucky Day. The Elite Four I can do with everyone except Namaste. It’s not that I don’t like her but her typing isn’t exactly necessary, and even if Lil Leaf was still with us I can’t see a timeline where I would have used him a whole bunch from now.
After a lot of tossing up between types and Pokemon I decided to put Namaste back in the box, but I evolved her anyway. I kept Toxic for someone else and brought out Renesmee instead. If I manage to find a Seel/Dewgong though i’m going to use that.
Moved onto the next route which is just a FUCK TON of water. Which I have always hated in any game tbh fuck the water levels man. Anyways we also got the Exp. Share before we left and Nala is holding that while Eyebrows just zaps literally everything except the Tentacool we caught and named Calamari.
We make it to Seafoam Islands, the fish and trainers we encountered absolutely fried behind us. Our first Pokemon in the cave is a Psyduck. Kinda wish I’d fished harder on Route 20. Shit. I know you’re not sposed so feed ducks bread but that’s her name and she’s going in the trash box with Asshole. Not what I wanted from this cave man.
Seafoam was being an absolute bitch to us, we couldn’t take more than 3 steps without an encounter and I was trying to be sparing with the few repels I had. Either way we came upon Articuno. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before but I will not be catching Legendary Pokemon. Articuno is no exception. Legendaries must die.
The Articuno was a level 50, something I hadn’t really thought about with most of my Pokemon in their 30s still. Eyebrows was still up front and got two Thunderbolts off around a Mind Read from the Articuno. It took it down to a little above a quarter and I switched Eyebrows out for whatever the coming attack was. I hoped to God Loki could take it. The dumb bird used Mind Reader TWO MORE TIMES and Loki burned it to a crisp with Flamethrower. The Articuno died and after realising how worried I’d been over pretty much nothing we moved on and out of the cave. We finished the route and got to Cinnabar Island, thankfully since Eyebrows was pretty much completely out of PP.
We went straight into the Mansion after gearing up again with Lucky Day out front and our first encounter was a Koffing. I got nervous when it was Level 30 and rightfully so as it Self Destructed as I switched out Lucky Day for Nala. She still took a beating but she survived. This whole house is going to be nerve wracking.
I’m not gonna lie I just straight up ran from the Weezings I’m not sending Saracen into that and I dunno if anyone else can even take that hit right now.
Ended up taking a wrong door and ending up outside the mansion so we just used that little fuck up to our advantage and stocked up on repels so we could walk properly. After that the rest of it was pretty easy and we found the key and went to take on Blaine. Which I was not worried about in the slightest with Lucky Day AND Renesmee.
We unlock the Gym and wreck the first three trainers, Lucky Day just doin’ his thing and levelling up. Then something SHOCKING happens. We finish the third trainer battle and don’t exit straight away. Lucky Day is EVOLVING. INTO A KINGDRA. I know this is Gen 3 technically but I had no idea that would happen in this game. I feel like Oscar from Shark Tale. 5 G ON LUCKY DAY. I think he just won this Nuzlocke for us.
Turns out this is actually a problem. I knew it was too good to be true and checked how Seadra evolves to Kingdra, having forgotten it’s a trade evolution. From Gen 2. Which can’t technically happen in Fire Red until AFTER the Elite Four. But it did happen because of my randomising that I did for the Gen 1 trade evos. I don’t feel bad about having an Alakazam. If I was playing on a handheld I would have traded between my DS’ or something and it would have been possible and completely legit. But having Lucky Day as a Kingdra feels like cheating. I think I have to Permabox him. He didn’t die so I don’t feel bad about doing that either. He’s just gonna have to sit with Gerd and Chunkefunk for the rest of the game.
My new dilemma is my only water replacement is a fucking Tentacool. I don’t mind them really, even if they are the Zubats of the sea. But I could go get a Krabby or a Poliwag from a different route. I’ve never raised either of them. And as far as I know Kingler’s kind of a badass. Back to Route 20 it is. God damn it.
