Six Years

Part 7 - Her Boyfriend

Digong saw Leni sitting on the couch of his office browsing the glossy pages of a travel magazine.

"Hi mam." He greeted and kissed her cheek to cheek.

He took the seat opposite her and watched her movements. "Ang ganda pala ng beaches sa Batanes noh?" She began. "Mmmm... marami namang magandang beaches sa Pilipinas." He replied.

"Nakapunta ka na sa Caramoan Beach? Sa Bicol." She asked. "I've heard pero hindi pa. Busy sa pagiging mayor e tapos ngayon malas malas, presidente pa." He joked, making her chuckle. "Sayang, kung pwede lang kita dalhin sa beach lalo na sa Bicol nako. Sobrang ganda kaya nung buhay dagat alam mo yon? Makikita mo yung mga isda — yung mga rare na fish." She sounded so dreamy but Digong just loved hearing her stories. "Kaya lang parang malabo naman yata." She chuckled. "Eh... we're both busy. Ginusto natin 'tong trabahong ito, pinasok natin 'to e." He jested, "Kaya nga!" She laughed.

It was a typical day when Digong texted Leni about her availability that same evening. She was having a really bad day — thank goodness he sent her a message to, at least, brighten up her doomed day.

He invited her for a dinner later that day but he had another plan after their meal. He drove her somewhere with her eyes blinded by a blindfold.

"Uy, teka bakit may ganito?" She felt thrilled and confused. "Basta, surprise. Surprise." He explained and continued driving.

He kept Leni blinded until they pulled over and arrived at their destination.

"Dito na tayo, mam." He stated. "Pwede ko na tanggalin?" She asked. "Wait," he went down the car and assisted her in going out. He held her hand as they entered the place.

"Grabe, Digong. Bakit may ganito? Kinakabahan ako." She jested, "Sus, I wont do anything harmful." He replied and stopped at a point.

"We're here." He stated. She stood still and waited for him to give him instructions. "Tanggalin ko na mam." He informed her and slowly unblinded her.

Leni's jaw dropped involuntarily, her world stopped for a moment as she looked around. He brought her to the oceanarium of Manila Ocean Park that he reserved just for the both of them, 12AM until 3AM so that they could have some privacy and she could see the beautiful sea life next to her eyes.

Leni took little steps and scrutinized every single view her eyes laid on before she looked back at Digong.

"Grabe," she uttered in deep fascination. "Naalala ko lang mam how much you wanted to see the beaches and sea life kaya lang our time prohibits and masyadong public kaya ito. Eh... I hope you like it—"

"Sobra! Digong, ano ka ba? Sobrang naappreciate ko." She interrupts. "Hindi ko inexpect 'to." She looked around and exhaled sharply.

She walked towards him and hugged him tightly. He rested his palms on her lower back and stroked it gently. "Thank you ng maraming marami!" She expressed as her embrace tightened.

"You're welcome mam." He smiled. She withdrew from the hug without putting much distance away from him, she gazed at him.

"Sobrang naappreciate ko talaga, sobra." She didn't know how to express further, she just looked back at him and waited for him to kiss her. Despite that he wanted to press his lips with hers, and the fact that she seem to be giving him permission, he didn't take the opportunity. He knew she was just badly intoxicated and he didn't want to take her for granted.

He smiled at her and kissed her cheek instead and then the top of her head. "Basta ikaw." He uttered and hugged her. She smiled, it was a sweet and subtle act from him and she felt so precious to him.

She resumed looking around and observing the fishes from the glass wall of the room. "Ang laki nung sting ray!" She uttered and kept looking around feeding her eyes with so much sights — the angel fish, sting rays, and others. Digong couldn't keep the smile off his lips upon seeing how fascinated he had made her.

They continued walking around the park together exploring every corner of the park.

As they reached the end, the assistance team entertained them asking if they enjoyed. They had a brief talk with them.

"Okay ba mam?" Digong asked. "Oo naman," she nodded and clasped her hands around his one arm. "Technically, natupad na yung goal ko na magkasama tayo sa beach... well, di man 'to beach talaga pero sea life." She chuckled.

"Alam mo di ko talaga inexpect na gagawin mo 'to. Ano ka ba?" She followed. "Nabanggit ko lang talaga yung beaches last time tapos may niluluto ka na palang surprise diyan." She continued. "Well, because you are my girl, expect more to come." He teased, she pursed her lips and blushed.

It was yet another date night for the two but this time, time got a bit cruel on them. Digong had to finish some necessary tasks until late in the evening despite that he already committed himself with Leni for that evening.

It was already 9:45PM, Leni stayed at her office for over two hours already waiting for Rodrigo's queue.

He dialed her number and informed her about the possible tendency that their date night might not pursue anymore.

"Sorry, Leni. May tatapusin pa ako baka mga isang oras pa ito o dalawa. Biglaan. Sorry talaga." He felt so bad for being unable to grant his commitment with her.

"Ganon ba? Sige. Okay lang." She replied but he knew she was hoping. "Hindi mam." He cuts in before she was able to drop the line. "Bakit?" She asked.

"Nasaan ka ba?" He queried. "Ah? Nasa OVP lang naman ako, don't worry. Sa condo naman ako uuwi, hindi naman malayo masyado." She replied. "Sandali lang mam ha. May kausapin lang ako. Wag mo muna ibaba." He pleaded.

"Bong, kelan kailangan ng embassy itong review?" He asked. Bong checked before answering. "Sa... Sabado po. Bago mag-sabado." He replied.

Digong doesn't like leaving tasks unattended but it was just Wednesday and he still have ample time to work on it. He settled the folders and went back on the phone.

"Hello? Leni? Dyan ka pa?" He spoke. "Yes, sir." She responded.

"Diyan ka lang, sunduin kita. Ako na maghatid sayo pauwi." He stipulated. "Ha? Nako, Digong wag na. Ang layo mo pa, tsaka kaya—"

"Sunduin kita mam para naman makabawi naman ako. Nagpromise ako na ilalabas kita ngayon e." He insisted. "Sigurado ka?" She wondered. "Oo naman, basta diyan ka lang ha? Tawagan kita kapag malapit na ako." He replied.

As the line ended, Leni looked blankly on the wall of her office.

Grabeng effort. Hindi naman kailangan na ihatid pa niya ako pauwi.

"Nagpromise ako na ilalabas kita ngayon e."

His voice echoed in her ear. She leaned her head on her office table and gazed at the Ecuadorian rose he gave her about a year ago.

Leni took a nap for around thirty minutes until Digong arrived at the reception house. She swiftly fixed herself upon hearing the sounds from the outside hinting Digong's arrival.

She went down the lobby to accommodate him right away and leave heading to her condo unit.

"Digong, grabe salamat sa paghatid talaga. Nag-abala ka pa." She expressed as they walked up to her condo unit. "Sus, di mo naman ako kailangan pasalamatan every time I exert effort on you. It's my choice." He smiled. "Ano ka ba, if I know may mga gagawin ka pa talaga." She retorted. "I just want to make sure you're safe." He countered.

She unlocked the door but paused to invite him in for a coffee. As they entered, Leni went straight to the kitchen to prepare some hot beverage for them.

"Anong gusto mo? Tea or coffee?" She asked as she check on the cupboard. "Kung ano man yung sayo, yun rin sakin." He replied. She prepared two cups of hot green tea for them.

"Lika na," she called him and served the cups on the table. "Thank you." He replied. She sat beside him as he took a sip. While drinking, he felt conscious as she stared at him smiling. "Bakit mam?" He asked. "Nahiya man ako, wag mo ako tignan. Drink your beverage." He followed chuckling. "Wala lang. Ang cute mo lang kase." She giggled and stroked his stomach. "Ilang months na ba 'to?" She joked. "Sus, Leni. Wag nga." He laughed, she leaned close to him to kiss his cheek. "Pananagutan ko naman po." She jested and poked his big tummy.

Suddenly, a clutter was heard on the room taking their attention. Leni was sure there's nobody else she invited. "May kasama ka ba?" He asked, Leni looked at him trying to recall if she invited anyone.

In about a moment, someone came out of the room. Leni's eyes grew as she saw her mother's unexpected presence.

"Ma." She uttered and immediately stood up away from Digong as she was being too close to him.

"I didn't know na may kasama ka pala ditong umuuwi." Sally began. "Ah? No. Uhm... Ininvite ko lang si Digong for a coffee... Tea pala. Actually." She stammered. "Ngayon lang kase hinatid niya ako." She followed nervously. "Good evening mam." He greeted politely. Sally didn't show much enthusiasm upon looking at him making Leni nervous.

"Kayo ba?" Sally asked directly. Leni looked at Digong with heavy breathing. She swallowed to moisten her drying throat. "Uh..." She looked at her.

Digong stood up and answered in behalf of Leni. "Lumalabas kami mam and I hope in time..." He spoke and held Leni's waist respectfully. Sally kept an eye on him.

"Leni, pwede ko bang kausapin?" Sally asked her. "Ha? Uhm, sige po." She replied and stood still.

"In private? Kami lang ng... boyfriend mo?" Sally stipulated, Leni looked at Digong trying to get a hint if he's willing or not. "Sige na." Digong uttered. "Sige po. Sa kwarto muna ako." Leni replied and walked towards the bedroom.

"Dun tayo sa salas," Sally invited to disable Leni from overhearing their talk.

"Digong, tatapatin kita. I know you're the president pero sa puntong 'to you're just another man at nanay parin ako ng babaeng nililigawan mo." She began, Digong nodded. "Lantaran naman kase ang pagiging womanizer mo. Alam yata ng buong Pilipinas yan and ako na ang magsasabi sa'yo na hindi ako okay sa ganon. Di ako comportable na ang sinasamahan ng anak ko e may ganyang history." She expressed trasnparently. "I understand mam." He replied with his head slightly bowed down.

Leni tried to press her ear on the door but she couldn't hear anything. Her cluelessness made her worry somehow.

"Digong, di ko kailangan ng understanding mo. Ang kailangan ko, assurance na hindi mo ginagawang pampalipas oras ang anak ko." Sally retorted. "Si Jesse nga, napakabuting bata, napaka-ideal but it took us a while bago kami pumayag sa relasyon nila ni Leni." She followed. "Oho naman. Nakuha ko naman po yung gusto niyong sabihin." He replied.

"Ang akin lang Digong, kung si Leni e gagawin mo lang isa sa mga babae mo, magkakaproblema tayo. Hindi ko pinalaki yan para maging ganyan lang sa ibang tao. Kilala ko yang si Leni, ayoko lang masaktan siya ulit dahil naiwan nanaman siya. Jusko. Kung ganyan lang din, ibang babae nalang, Digong." She groused.

Digong sat up straight, "Mam Sally, naintindihan ko yung gusto niyo sabihin but I wanted to clear that concept. I am bluntly a womanizer, gagò man ako at some aspects of it, I cannot promise that I won't... di ko masasaktan si Leni." He began, Sally doubted even more until he continued. "Because pain is together with a relationship. Di naman maiiwasan yan. Hindi naman pwede laging masaya. Ang masisigurado ko lang sainyo mam, yang si Leni, mahal ko talaga yan. I love your daughter. I can assure you that I will protect her and will never take your daughter for granted." He continued striking Sally straight to her heart with his sincerity. "Baka naman si Leni lang ang concern mo? Tandaan mo, may tatlo siyang anak. You should accept the fact na kailangan mo rin isama yon sa mga plano." She reminded him. "Of course mam. Nakasama ko na sila a couple of times. I'm trying to get their comfort and support, kasama talaga sila sa plano ko. Lahat naman ng related kay Leni tatanggapin ko." He explained.

"Yun lang, mam. When I say I will protect your daughter, I will do it. May isang salita ako mam, lalo na kung si Leni ang pinag-uusapan. She's not just an ordinary woman to me." He followed. Sally exhaled heavily bringing out the weight from her chest due to her doubts that eventually disintegrated as he continued speaking.

He chuckled, "Mam, maniwala ka man saakin, kung may mang-iiwan dito, kung may masasaktan, hindi si Leni yon." He assured. "What do you mean?" She asked. "I will always love your daughter more than she could ever love me. Trust me." He guaranteed. His words may be floral and cliche to be heard from a man trying to win her daughter, but she felt the sincerity in him. It was something she doesn't feel from most of the men going after her daughter, Leni.

"Sige, I will take your words. Sana lang hindi tayo naglolokohan dito. Magkakaproblema talaga tayo." Sally warned him. "Of course, mam. Bakit naman ako makikipagbolahan dito." He retorted.

After the talk, Sally knocked on Leni's door. She immediately opened the door eager to check the atmosphere to at least have a hint of what happened but they seemed silent.

Leni joined the two as they resumed taking their hot beverage and snacks. "So... Ano naman pong napag-usapan niyo?" She initiated as she felt like she'll be swallowed by anxiety anytime.

"Wala naman. Syempre tungkol sayo at sainyong dalawa." Sally answered vaguely making her feel even more uneasy. Digong held her hand under the table. "Nothing to worry." He assured her making her struggle to figure out if he was just covering up her mother's scolding or is there really nothing to worry about.

After a while, Sally finished her drink. "Ako na magligpit, ma." Leni volunteered. "Sige, magpapahinga na ako. Kayo nang bahala dito." She responded.

"Digong," she looked at him seeming to telepathically remind him of what they talked about before she went to the room to rest.

As Sally went out of sight, Leni ran to Digong. "Uy, sorry. Anong sinabi sayo ni mama?" She asked eagerly. "Wala naman." He smiled, "Anong wala? Suntukin kita diyan. Pwede bang wala. Kilala ko si mama. Pinapatigil ka na ba? Pagpasensyahan mo na, overprotective lang talaga yan saakin kahit ang tanda tanda ko na." She explained, he just smiled as he knew she has really nothing to be worried about.

"Uy," she held his hand. "Titigil ka na ba?" She worried feeling a subtle sting on her chest.

"No." He replied briefly.

"Bakit ka ganyan? Napatahimik ka bigla after niyo mag-usap?" She felt so paranoid. He was actually silenced a bit as he just realized how serious he was when he spoke to her mother. It was something else, it was beyond what they just agreed, hence, he's not feeling any regret about it.

"Hindi kita iiwan, gaga." He replied chuckling. "Wag kang praning." He followed. She laughed, "Para ka kasing ano e, natahimik ka bigla akala ko kung ano nang nangyari. Sampalin kita diyan e." She retorted, he pulled her hand and hugged her.

"Sige ka baka di ko panagutan 'tong baby natin." Leni touched his stomach. "Laki pa naman na ng tiyan mo." She joked. "Sus, kahit malaki yan patay na patay ka parin naman saakin." He rolled his eyes. Leni withdrew from the hug, her nose flared as she looked at him.

"Wow?" She uttered. "Oh bakit?" He replied smirking. "Ako pa talaga yung patay na patay? Yabang ha?" She defended. "Bakit? Ang praning mo nga e, nag-usap lang kami ng mama mo, mamatay matay ka na kakaisip kung iiwanan kita." He raised his hand and shoulders.

"Aba!" She punched his stomach playfully. "Violence." He jested. "Yabang mo ha! Di naman kagwapuhan, laki pa ng tiyan." She mocked him. "Wala kang magagawa, girlfriend kita." He pursed his lips cockily.

"Ah ganon? So inuunder mo ako? Ganon?" She raised her eyebrows. "Pwes, umuwi ka na. Matutulog na ako." She pushed him outside playfully. "Matitiis mo ba ang isang gabing wala ako?" He tried to resist her force despite that he was taking baby steps towards door.

"Ang yabang talaga oh, uwi." She continued pushing him until he stole a kiss from her as she was naive of how close their face was as she pushed him away. "Oy!"she withdrew herself as a kiss was stolen from her lips. "Ikaw—" He stole another one.

"Digo—" and another. "Ayoko na. Kumo-quota ka na." She covered her lips with her hands making her words sound unclear to him. "Ano yun? Ano?" He asked. She removed her hands from her mouth to speak clearly but he just took the opportunity to steal another kiss and rest his palms on her lower back.

She protruded her jaws and glared at him. "Sumosobra ka na ha." She stated. "Gusto mo naman." He smirked, "Kapal." She countered, he leaned closer and touched the tip of her nose with his. "Isa nalang." He stated before he placed a soft kiss on her lips that eventually swept off her feet leading into a deep long one. Leni carefully withdrew from the kiss.

"Uy," she whispered. "Bakit?" He asked and continued kissing her lips repeatedly. "Gags. Wag nga, nandito si mama." She warned him and moved her lips away from him making him settle on her jaws and cheek, he stopped kissing and chuckled. "Bakit? Di naman kita gagalawin." He stated with a smile.

She looked at him to check if he was serious — he seemed serious. "Eh kung wala dito si mama?" She minimized her eyes. "Di pa rin." He replied trying to check what would her reaction be.

"Grabe naman." She frowned a bit. "Bakit? Gusto mo ba?" He asked, her nostrils flared as she suppressed her smile, her cheeks turned pink. "Umuwi ka na nga! Landi mo eh." She pushed him out and opened the door for him.

"Sus, ako pang malandi." He mouthed as they walked out. "Oo ikaw. Sige na uwi na." She responded.

Refinement Rank 1: Lux Aut Umbra

Upon hitting enemies affected by Hydro: Refreshes any existing Nota stacks and gains one Umbra Nota, which increases ATK to all party members by 18% for 10s. Max 3 stacks. The next two Umbra Nota can only be gained if wielder is off-field. When the wielder has 3 stacks, active character’s ATK SPD will be increased by 6%.

Upon hitting enemies affected with Cryo or Pyro: Refreshes any existing Nota stacks and gains Lux Nota, which increases the wielder’s Normal Attack DMG by 100%. This effect will disappear after 42 DMG instances or 18s.

A/N ⟡ Kit Concept: Mainly a weapon to better enhance Coviello's versatile playstyle. e.g. as support/sub-DPS, you'd focus on gaining Umbra Nota and making sure they go off-field, while as a main/sub-DPS, you'd focus on gaining Lux Nota (which can easily be done using their Elemental Burst).

Normal Attack: Advancing in Caution

Normal Attack: Performs up to 5 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack: Consumes a certain amount of stamina to quickly step back and either 1) fires a pistol or 2) throws a dagger. Both instances deal Physical DMG.

Plunging Attack: Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Elemental Skill: Frostbite

Duration: 12s ⟡ CD: 20s

Cryo DMG: (Base level) 120% ATK + 140% Elemental Mastery

Applies a circular Cryo field which deals continuous Cryo DMG every 2s.

Elemental Burst: Ice Burn

Duration: 18s ⟡ CD: 32s

Enhanced Normal Attack DMG: (Base level) 120% ATK + 250% Elemental Mastery

HP Drain: 5% Max HP per second

Coviello activates their delusion and alternates between Cryo and Pyro DMG between attacks, causing continuous Melt reaction. This will convert their Normal Attack: Advancing in Caution’s Physical DMG into Elemental DMG.

While they’re in this state, their HP will continuously be drained.

“Do you know what severe frostbite feels like? It feels tingly at first, like sparks of electricity. Then, it starts to burn and swell, before you lose all feelings in that particular area... Heh. Ironic, isn’t it? How can cold ice feel like it’s burning your skin?”

A/N ⟡ Kit Concept: Great off-field support/sub-DPS for Hydro-wielding characters (specifically Childe), but turns into main/sub-DPS after their Elemental Burst is unleashed (which could also be a good support for Childe as you wait for his Elemental Skill cooldown). Also I imagine if RNG blesses Cov to fire a pistol as a charged attack, in-game Meirin would go "That's my child ;w;" /silly

ー༄ Passive Skills:

Thermoregulatory: Party is immune to cold weather effects.

Avalanche (be upon ye): If the deployed party is entirely composed of Hydro and Cryo characters, including Coviello, opponents affected by Cryo will have their Cryo RES decreased by 10% for 12s.

Legal Hunting: Gains 25% more rewards when dispatched on a Snezhnaya Expedition for 20 hours.

C1: Frostnip

Increases the Level of Frostbite by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

C2: Impermafrost ★

Active characters within Cryo field generated by Frostbite are immune to Frozen even when Wet (other elemental reactions with Hydro will still apply).

C3: Permafrost ★

If the opponent is Frozen, increase Frostbite’s Cryo DMG to 1.5x of the current multiplier value for Coviello’s Elemental Mastery.

C4: Hypothermia

Increases the Level of Normal Attack: Advancing in Caution by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

C5: Blizzard

Increases the Level of Ice Burn by 3. Maximum upgrade level is 15.

C6: Gangrene ★

Increases Ice Burn’s Enhanced Normal Attack DMG to 1.5x of the current multiplier value for Coviello’s Elemental Mastery and reduce HP Drain to 4% Max HP per second.

A/N ⟡ Concept: C1-C3 enhances their support/sub-DPS capability, but C4-C6 evolves them into a decent DPS.
