#riverdalearthistory owns me
Note
Question: I'm thinking of starting a blog like this but with Cheryl. Unfortunately, I don't know too much about fashion, do you think it would be interesting to read just thoughts on an outfit without my being able to identify the exact fashion terms? (I adore your blog by the way!)
Hello anon! You are not the only person who has messaged me about starting a blog to focus on Cheryl’s wardrobe! She’s Queen Bee for a reason.
As to your question—I think you should create the blog you would want to read, to the best of your ability!
One of my favorite twitter accounts is I’ve Pet That Dog. Gideon is 11 and loves to meet dogs. That’s it! It’s wonderful.
I like art and Riverdale, and I like thinking about the intersection of high and low culture, and thinking about what those two things even actually mean—so I made @riverdalearthistory. I didn’t think anyone beyond myself and like maybe three friends would find it amusing, but it was interesting to me and fun to do!
This blog exists because I like Betty Cooper, television criticism, and Tom + Lorenzo’s Mad Style series. But it is its own thing, you know? I bring my own set of skills and interests to it, and those differ and overlap with other people’s—but they’re all valid. A lot of people know a lot more about fashion than I do.
It’s not necessarily the intent, but we learn a lot by simple observation and consideration. Curiosity is great. I see a sweater described as intarsia knit and I’m like wtf is intarsia, and research (as low-key as a google) and suddenly I know something I didn’t before. I also can’t tell you the number of artists I’ve learned about because of the art blog.
Tumblr media
So all that (whew) to say—I think you should go for it! Make the blog you want, and only do it if it brings you joy.
And thank you for your kind words!
PS my only concrete piece of advice is that if you get rude troll-y anons—block, delete, vent about it to your friends, carry on. Learn well how to distinguish between these and other asks.
